Meetings with Republican Leaders on Emanuel Agenda
By Michael A. Fletcher
President-elect Barack Obama will continue his efforts to reach across the aisle today, as his designated White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel will hold meetings on Capitol Hill with House and Senate Republican leaders.
Transition officials say Emanuel will "discuss how to best work together and ensure they know that the White House will be open at all times for them." The meetings come after Monday's session in Chicago between Obama and his vanquished Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
Obama, meanwhile, is scheduled to remain out of public view today. He will be holding meetings in Chicago as he continues assembling his governing team.
Today is also Vice President-elect Joe Biden's 66th birthday. Obama celebrated yesterday by surprising Biden with a dozen cupcakes after their weekly lunch. Obama lit candles on the cupcakes, joking, "You're 12 years old," observers said. "Maybe in dog years," Biden replied.
Then the president-elect led the staff in singing Happy Birthday. Obama gave Biden a Chicago White Sox hat, a Chicago Bears hat and a bucket of Garrett's popcorn as gifts.

If we want to be REALLY accurate, the definition of a "dog year" depends on the breed...

"VP's are never good at math. VP-elect Biden would be 462 in dog years."
You might want to work on your reading comprehension. Obama joked that Biden was 12 years old. Twelve in dog years is 84. It's still off, but he did hedge it with a "maybe". ;-)

can you say AWKWARD. I think Obama ended up with Biden. The best veeps would have been.... Leahy, Kennedy and his fellow Senator from Illinois who all bravely fought the Bush regime while Biden, Dodd and Rodham Clinton embraced the Dark Side.
