Recount Ends in Minnesota Senate Race

By Perry Bacon Jr.
The long process of determining the winner in the Minnesota Senate race is nearing its end, as a recount of the votes there wrapped up Friday afternoon.

But the recount, which shows Sen. Norm Coleman (R) leading Democratic comedian Al Franken by 192 votes, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, is not the final step: the state's canvassing board meets on Dec. 16 to review the recount and rule on several thousand ballots that have been challenged by the campaigns.

The Secretary of State's office in Minnesota hasn't released an official count and won't declare a winner in the race until after that board meets.

Both Coleman and Franken's campaign have challenged more than 3,000 ballots each, so the process of reviewing them could take several days to complete and stretch out until Christmas, if not longer.

The race is the only Senate contest where the winner has not been officially determined. Democrats currently control 58 seats in the Senate (a number that includes the two independents who usually vote with them), while Republicans hold 41.

Looks like the fat lady will sing in Minnesota on Tuesday (December 16th). Look out Kate Smith... (At least the popular vote counts in some federal elections...)

Evidence proving foul play in unfortunate small plane crashes is difficult to find or draw conclusions from.

Evidence that the national betrayal of 9-11 was an inside job is bountiful and obvious for any reasonable person to see. Three WTC towers don't fall symmetrically into their own footprint at free-fall speed as if they were falling without resistance through thin air. Those explosions resulted from pre-planted demolition charges expertly placed to shock the nation into war without end.

Paul Wellstone was not the victim of a far-right conspiracy.
Nor was 9-11 a conspiracy by George W. Bush.
If you believe either you should spend all your time at the Daily Kos not here.

Thank God! I wasn't sure how long Al
Franken wanted to drag this out! Franken lost, its time to move on...

this is a blatant example of how Dems try to (and often succeed in) steal elections.

Paul wellstone was murdered along with his family in a plane crash so that Coleman could get his seat? Death isn't murder just because someone is liberal.

For the record, Obama is not officially President-Elect either until the Electoral College meets and votes on December 15th. Hopefully, his "natural born" citizenship question is resolved by then.

Why should Franken become Senator? To keep Coleman from occupying the seat of murdered liberal Paul Wellstone. If you don't think so, move to Wasilla. Or go to church.
