Warm and Fuzzy As Bushies Exit and Obamans Enter
By Mary Ann Akers
Despite all the campaign nastiness between the outgoing 43rd and incoming 44th presidents, Bush White House press aides and their Democratic successors are enjoying a holiday love fest.
Press aides to President Bush have been offering on-the-job training, White House tours and everyday common sense tips to the newly assembled press team for President-elect Obama. Robert Gibbs, who has been named Obama's White House press secretary, tells us his predecessor, Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino, "couldn't be nicer."
Perino has given Gibbs a tour of the White House and offered to let him and his staff shadow her for a few days sometime closer to Jan. 20, when Obama takes the oath of office and assumes the presidency. Gibbs, nearly gushing as he spoke of Perino, said he's "definitely" taking her up on that offer.
She also gave her successor, who is married with a 5-year-old son, a piece of personal advice to help keep things running smoothly on the home front as he begins a life of 18-plus hour days: unlist your home phone number, preserve your wife's sanity.
