Browner to Take White House Energy and Environment Job

By Al Kamen
President-elect Barack Obama is expected to announce -- perhaps as early as Wednesday -- that Clinton administration Environmental Protection Agency chief Carol Browner will take a new White House position as head of environmental, energy, climate and related matters, according to Democratic sources.

Now a principal at The Albright Group, a "global strategy firm" founded by former secretary of state Madeleine Albright, Browner was the longest-serving administrator in EPA history.

It was unclear if any of the related agency chiefs within her portfolio would be named along with her.

UPDATE: AP reported today that the current "... cooling trend illustrates how fast the world is warming ..." LOL! "Up" is "down" now, too, I guess ; )

How is that "FOR SURE" if global warming is just a natural effect of our planet's cycle?

JakeD: Whether or not global warming is caused by human activity or just a natural effect of our planet's cycle, there is one thing FOR SURE, releasing tons of emissions into our atmosphere for 100 years or so is not helping, in fact, it is hard to deny that it is hurting and "warming" up our atmosphere.

Isn't it great that, even after the election, we still have goobers like JakeD to kick around? Thanks JakeD, keep 'em coming for the next 8 years while you stew in republican poop reading passages from Billo-The-Clown's latest "big pile of" book. Isn't there a forest in Idaho your tiny little skin-head can bob around in while your melting brain screams "Sieg Hiel"?

JakeD,you schmuck. No one reads the Washingtoon Times, except for airheads like you. But it looks great at the bottom of my bird cage. Nothing soaks up the crap like the Washingtoon Times.

Charles Manson, Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, and Josepf Stalin are also also "on record". So I guess that makes whatever they said & wrote the truth too, right JakeD, you blithering idiot?

JakeD wants to buy a Hummer, because he's tired of giving them. Better hurry up Jake, they are going to be history pretty soon, just like your kooky, psycho-bable that climate change is a hoax.

Ms. Browner is a subperb selection. Well done, Mr. President-Elect.

Back on topic. JakeD is off-topic. Put your homophobia to rest there Jake, or better yet, yake it to some Aryan Nations or neo-Nazi site where it will fit right in with the rest of the racist B.S.

Back on topic: over 650 International Scientists are on the record as questioning whether global warming is even man-made (and, therefore, man-solvable):

He didn't proffer something new. He proffered a change from the incompetence of the Bush years.

As I understood the President-Elect on the campaign trail, he proffered something new, away from the same old stuff. Without disrespect to this latest naming of a Clinton worthy to a key post, when do you suppose we will see some new faces. At some point we who thought Senator Obama something new and refreshing are going to write it all off as campaign bait and switch. Oh well.

On her new job, what ever happened to the one created by statute, head of the Council on Environmental Quality?

LOL! Good one, dotellen.

To my long-time adversaries: does the fact that I am still posting after the election finally put to rest the silly argument I was being paid by McCain and/or RNC?

It would be great if Obama could get James Lee Witt back as director of FEMA. He was also a long-term director, the only person to hold that post who had experience as owner of a construction company.

I expect Carol Browner to do an excellent job in whatever capacity President Obama chooses for her. She is respected by many Floridians for her service as our Secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in the early '90s. She was outspoken in her support of preserving and cleaning up the Everglades. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, her response was antithetical to that of 'heck of a job, Brownie'. When most of us in South Dade were without electricity, potable water, gasoline, food, etc., many of us were becoming desperate about our situation. A few days after Andrew hit, there was little visible governmental help. Ms. Browner summed up our frustration when she asked in desperation, 'Where the hell is the cavalry?' The Florida National Guard had not yet arrived to provide basic assistance and safety for the thousands of people affected by that storm's ravage upon our community. I empathize greatly with the people of New Orleans who too were left on their own after being overwhelmed by Hurricane Katrina. Ms. Browner is intelligent and competent and we are lucky to have her in the Obama administration. I am not disappointed by President-elect Obama’s selection to have her serve in his cabinet. He is appointing people who actually have competence in the fields of their appointments. What a concept!

What do you think about Carol Browner?

Posted by: JakeD | December 9, 2008 8:20 PM | Report abuse

Browner married former Congressman Thomas Joseph Downey on June 21, 2007, her third marriage. See also, The Washington Times. March 22, 1995. Page A3 article by Joyce Price "EPA broke law, panel charges: Bipartisan letter cites 'prohibited grass-roots lobbying'."

Sounds like a Global Warming "Chicken Little" to me:

“If we fail to act we’ll become the first generation that has left to the next generation a problem that can’t really be resolved,” she says. “No generation has yet left a permanently altered planet. There is not a single engineer in the world who could reverse the rise in the sea level once it starts to happen.”

She also argues that big businesses are mainly responsible for reversing climate change.
