Teach a Child -- and Help Retire Clinton's Debt to Mark Penn
By Anne E. Kornblut
Dorothy Rodham is making a rare appeal on her daughter's behalf: asking supporters to purchase a new children's book about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, "Dreams Taking Flight," to help pay down her campaign debt. "I'm so proud of everything my daughter has accomplished and excited about what her future holds," Rodham writes in an e-mail sent to the Clinton list on Friday.
"Her life is full of amazing achievements, and her story has inspired millions of people, especially young girls, to achieve their dreams, no matter what they are. There's a wonderful book about her life I'd like to share with you. It's called Hillary Clinton: Dreams Taking Flight, and it is the perfect way to share my daughter's story with a child you want to inspire," Rodham writes.
And, with a $50 contribution to help retire Clinton's debt, the book, aimed at children aged 9 to 11, can be yours, with a special book plate. Or you could buy a regular copy for $11.55 off Amazon.com.
A signed copy costs $250 through the campaign.
Clinton still had $7.5 million in debt at the beginning of November, and more than $5 million of that is owed to the firm belonging to her former chief strategist, Mark Penn. So now her supporters will have an opportunity to help educate a child -- and give the pollster a boost, too.
Vice President-elect Joe Biden is also making an appeal on Clinton's behalf. In a fundraising letter sent out Friday, he asks Obama supporters to help retire her debt before she becomes Secretary of State -- and can no longer fundraise. "We welcome Hillary as a partner in our administration, and I hope you will show your support by helping Barack fulfill our campaign promise," the Biden letter says.
