President Obama is briefed by top economic advisers at 9:40 a.m. At 10 a.m., Obama sits down with senior White House staff, followed by a 10:30 a.m. meeting with retired military officers.

Around 1:45 p.m., Obama and Vice President Biden head to the State Department to discuss the state of U.S. diplomacy with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, National Security Advisor James Jones and Deputy National Security Advisor Tom Donilon.

At 2:45 p.m., Obama and Clinton will deliver remarks before State Department employees.

Obama is also expected to sign an executive order today that would close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay in less than a year, and to name Sen. George Mitchell as special envoy to the Middle East.
