Obama Plans Canadian Visit for February

By Michael D. Shear
President Obama will travel to Canada on Feb. 19, officials announced today, making a trip that has become a tradition for presidents in the first weeks of their administrations.

The president's first foreign trip is meant to emphasize the close relationship between the neighboring countries, officials said. Obama is expected to meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper during the trip.

"Canada is a vitally important ally and the president looks forward to the opportunity to speak with Prime Minister Harper, and visit our neighbor to the north," Gibbs said.

American presidents typically travel to Canada shortly after their elections. This year, the trip takes place as both countries -- major trading partners with each other -- are struggling amid a world-wide economic slowdown.

Gibbs did not provide any details about Obama's itinerary on the trip.

"almonjer"- "I find it disgusting and hypocritical that the Canadian govt is getting a visit from President Obama -even as it is under a travel warning due to it profiling and targeting African Americans and Black celebs/atheletes...."
FYI:almonjer, This supposed profiling & targeting at Canada's borders with the USA,is a direct result of US politicians' asertations that Canada's border is,"a pipeline of entry of Terrorists to the USA."
"almonjer," Have you visited Canada? Do you know anything factual about Canada, that isn't spoon-fed to you by Fox(gw bush)News?
Canada is NOT in the business of discrimination, else our country could not function. Many people of many races live here and problems do surface, they are not the norm.Canada is not perfect, nor are you. So,the question to you,"almonjer," is, If not Canada, what country would YOU suggest that your new President visit first? I do not beleive that you have any answer that would not contradict your foolish statements.Regardless, you & your opinions are free,as you will be in Canada.

Chill out there almonjer. Racism exists in your country too. Canadians are generally very accepting of all cultures so don't sensationalize isolated events. Last i heard there was an American profiteering scandal running wild in Iraq affecting all countries on the globe... I guess disgusting is a relative term. You're all very welcome to visit any time of the year... no matter what your culture might be... muslims inclusive.

Another example of Obama walking the walk. He criticizes DC for being wimps when it comes to snow, and then backs it up by booking a trip to Canada in February!

You're a braver man than I, Mr. Obama.

I find it disgusting and hypocritical that the Canadian govt is getting a visit from President Obama -even as it is under a travel warning due to it profiling and targeting African Americans and Black celebs/atheletes. Worse they have admitted it numerous times with not 1 word from Sen. Clinton or any State Dept official.
