Rocky Week Ahead for Holder

By Ben Pershing
For all the talk last week of Congress standing up to Barack Obama on his proposed stimulus package, Leon Panetta and a handful of other flashpoints, lawmakers will get their first chance to draw actual blood Thursday when Eric Holder goes before the Senate Judiciary Committee for confirmation as attorney general. The betting here is that he will be confirmed, but Republicans do plan to make things difficult for Holder over his career in private practice and his role in Clinton-era pardons.

However many Republican critics emerge this week, Team Obama is still strongly backing Holder. In an interview taped Saturday for's new video series, "The Obama Era: Voices of Change," former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe predicted there would be "a lot of support" for Holder in the Senate. Asked whether he was disappointed that Holder failed to disclose on a Senate questionnaire that he had done work for Rod Blagojevich's administration, Plouffe said, "No, not at all." Plouffe said he would not be involved in any of the "murder boards" to prepare Obama's nominees for confirmation but said he had "a lot of confidence" that their candidacies would be well-managed.

Obama himself called Holder a man of "unimpeachable integrity" -- probably a poor word choice, given the circumstances -- during his weekend interview with George Stephanopoulos, though of course the real news from that session was all about the dog.

I would like to invite everyone on this forum who is fed-up with JakeD's idiotic, off-topic postings to report him and basically tell the WAPO that it's him or us.

It has become impossible to engage in intelligent topical discourse with his continued rantings being posted non-stop.

Darn, the "44" header is back already ...

Posted by: JakeD | January 12, 2009 4:01 PM | Report abuse

What happened to "44 Transition to Obama Presidency"? Did the WaPo revert back to "The Trail Election Day 2008" because someone finally dug up Obama's LONG FORM birth certificate?

Eric Holder was either a White House Counsel or working in Janet Reno's Justice,
As she liked to call it "Ministry" at the start of the Clinton Administration. It did not take long for the Clinton bunch to find a domestic terrorism dragon to slay.

Waco was a whitewash and a coverup of some of the most incompetent and brutal extermination of more that eighty men women and children ever in the US.

The FBI pumped the Branch Davidian living quarters full of exlosive gas and torched the place after making sure plenty of lies and demonization of this religious sect sealed their fate.

But of course today, the slaughter eighty or more women and children is brushed off by MSM like the WaPo as collateral damage or terrorists using civilians as "human Shields." Have Americans become callous enough to allow more of such killings?

I would like to hear what Holder has to say about his invovement in this atrocity in Waco Tx at the very beginnings of the Clinton Administration.

I think questioning along those lines is fair game if we want to avert another brutal loss of life by law enforcement actions on our shores.

• What happened to Homeland Security warnings of "heightened risk" during Presidential transition?

• How about the late November FBI warning about possible Northeast train station attacks?

• "Amtrak Joe" Biden's longstanding warnings about security flaws along the Amtrak Northeast corridor -- why isn't he waving this whistle stop tour to a halt?

Back on topic, it's not just Eric Holder. Janet Napolitano will also be on the hot seat at Senate committees this week. Her views on immigration and role in causing 9/11 should produce some tough questions from the Republican side of the aisle. I can't wait to see Hillary DIANE Clinton up for SecState : )

If you don't want to answer my "goofy" questions, that's fine. But if Obama is a "natural born" citizen, then great, let's get him right to work re: Americans out of their homes, employment, into bankruptcy, etc. If he is not, however, Acting President Joe Biden needs to get to work ASAP.

People out of their homes, employment;those having to go into bankruptcy don't care about your goofy argument. Only those with too much times on their hands, like Gulliver's Liliputians, care about long form birth certificates of an American President. We Americans do know the disaster Obama has been handed by Bush.

As you know, the SHORT FORM certification (printed in 2007) was photographed by and is "available" in that regard -- putting aside the question of whether that document is a forgery -- Obama has not released his LONG FORM certificate (which would provide the hospital and doctor's name) and it is certianly not available for download. If there's nothing to hide, why not just release it? I thought this was going to be the most open, transparent Administration in history?

Only diehard fanatics, like the Taliban or GOP retrogressive dinosaurs, keep up the rant about obama's birth certificate. It has been available for download from Hawaii; In fact, right-wingers from Lushball to Mannity have been satisfied. Now only screwballs beats this "... not born in America drum."

Posted by: sperrico | January 12, 2009 11:36 AM | Report abuse

For instance:

Federal law in effect when Obama was born did NOT automatically make him a "natural born" citizen just because his mother was a U.S. citizen -- if he wasn't born in Hawaii, then there is a legitimate argument he isn't qualified to become President of the United States -- that's sort of a threshold issue we are dealing with first. That also has the potential for blackmail, Constitutional crisis, etc.

Holder will have an easy time obtaining confirmation. After Hurricane Katrina Republicans don't want to appear to be more racist than necessary.

There are a couple rocky weeks ahead for pResident Evil Obama too.
