The President Begins His Morning

After a night of dancing, President Obama arrived in the Oval Office at 8:35 a.m., sitting alone for ten minutes in the solemn room, aides said today.

He read a note that former president George Bush had left for him in the left desk drawer, a tradition that dates back several presidents.

The note was in an envelope marked ""To: #44, From: #43," according to a statement from Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. The White House did not disclose the contents of the note.

Obama's relatively late start is a contrast to his predecessor, who usually arrived at the office by 6:30 or 7 a.m. every morning.

But Obama and his wife, Michelle, were up late Tuesday night after attending 10 Inaugural Balls.

Bush attended nine eight years ago, but it was unclear what time he arrived at the Oval Office the next day. Stories at the time reported that he got up "early" and had coffee with his parents -- the former first family -- in the Queen's Bedroom.

Former president Bill Clinton was famous for being more of a late riser in the White House.

Gibbs said that Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, came into the Oval Office at 8:45 a.m. to discuss the day's schedule, followed by the first lady, who arrived at 9:10 a.m.

Additional newsflash to JakeD, still in my Ted Baxter voiceover: The story has further read that President Obama did not have Lincoln's or any Bible at all when he was sworn in again by Roberts. Now right-wing bloggers will say that Obama is still not President, since he didn't have said Bible. Okay, that LAST part I made up, but we can all be assured that ol' JakeD and his right-wing buddies will find something else to comically delegitimize our President Obama! What will it be? This just in to JakeD: PRESIDENT Obama has retaken the oath of office in the White House Map Room with Judge Roberts. No, this isn't a joke. I guess you'll have to go back to that "natural born citizen" thing you've practically perfected against President Obama, or something else or another...

To JakeD; Poor little JakeD, likes to argue and then acts like a child when he doesn't get his way. Are you 70 years old JakeD or are you 7 years old from the way you behave and act. Don't forget to have your head surgically removed from your butt by a proctoligist. As well don't forget your meds before you go to bed so you don't wake up pounding your head against the wall during the middle of the night. Also little JakeD don't forget your appointment with your psychologists as he needs to give you more prescriptions for meds so you don't totally loose your mind.

To JakeD: You have no clue as to what you are talking about. Why not do the rest of us a favor and keep your delusional and totally dumb and ignorant comments to yourself. Maybe you should go visit ex President George Walker Bush at his ranch in Crawford and bend over and let him stick it to you just like he did to the United States for the past eight years. You may have been a lawyer but otherwise you are dumber than a sack of hammers which is an insult to hammers.

Barack Obama is the greatest liar in history (no wonder he is an excellent lawyer!) During his campaign, he told lots of hope in future for America if he was elected, but now he warns Americans of oncoming darker economy and not to put too much hope in his promises. He promises a big plan to reduce budget deficit but his inauguration ceremony this January will be the most costly in history (50 millions) while the nation is in deep depression, as well as his presidential campaign (600 millions), which was far more than his opponent John McCain's. He vows to clean up Washington DC, but he failed to first clean up his homestate Illinois, one of the most corrupt state with the scandal of Governor Rod Blagojevich, who greatly helped Obama to win his state senate seat in 1996, 1998, and 2002. And his favorite slogan is "Yes, we CAN", yet he himself CANNOT quit smoking at all !!! (Each year about 1.3 million American smokers quit successfully).

Why did Nancy PATRICIA Pelosi take impeachment "off the table" then? President Bush was not "sent home" anymore than President Clinton was 8 years earlier.

I agree that the Constitution says it all -- unfortunately, because Obama will not voluntarily comply, this will end up in court -- as you noted, this is a legal issue that will have to be determined who the qualified "successor" is.

The 20th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States:

SECTION. 1. The terms of the President and the Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

" ... ; and the terms of their successors shall then begin." Says it all, end of story, end of complaints. The Constitution says it all.

US President Barack Obama's first major decision must be to decide the direction this nation will go before making a commitment to a massive $825 billion dollar stimulus plan.

Money spent in the great depression created our world and the problems we now fight. The solution and goal is to remember, the goal in life is not employment; it is a retirement lifestyle creating a garden paradise where we choose trees, plants and animals to grow fresh food around us. That solves world problems at the same time. It is development that is fair, beautiful and sustainable through eternity. It is not the bondage we now live; it is true freedom and independence. Leviticus 26, God's promises.

We are going the wrong way and destroying ourselves. If we turn to creating a garden paradise lifestyle, we will not worry about pollution, global warming, disease, high health costs, war, immigration and social security inadequacies. We will be in a position where we will not have to buy or sell; all our needs will be available around us.

Nature emits carbon dioxide; that is not the problem; it is concentrations of heat in cities that cannot cool before damage to environment. Creating heat by another technology does not solve the problem. Stopping carbon dioxide is dangerous; it stops growth. Making green jobs and going into debt to cut carbon dioxide emissions will not cure our financial crisis either. Could destroying carbon dioxide output have contributed to other planets like Mars having no more water or life? We are a government of the people; people need to say or write the direction they want for our nation.

JakeD, you're risking becoming a joke on these boards if you keep this up, seriously. Maybe I should accuse Chief Justice Roberts, who is definitely your type of conservative, of deliberately flubbing the oath so he can help get back at Obama for voting against his confirmation (one of 22 Senators to do so) down the road with his fellow Federalist Society conservative bretheren? No, because that's what I call foolish and stupid reasoning. Give it a rest. He's President now. You know, I'm seriously wondering how you'd react if something tragic (God forbid) happened to Obama. Would you cheer? Quite frankly, I'd have to wonder...

Don't worry, I have already contributed to the legal challenges. The required Presidential oath reads (just in case you think he said it properly): "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

The oath thing has happened twice before. No big deal. And in any event under the 20th Amendment of the Constitution Obama automatically became president at noon on January 20th. Get over it, and salute your President. Anything else makes you a traitor, and un-American. If you don't like it, maybe you should just leave.

JakeD, you should really get that Birth Certificate issue all cleared up before you start worrying whether the oath was valid, don't you think? We wouldn't want you to spread yourself too thin. There are only so many insane causes one man can champion, after all.

The Presidential oath is explicitly prescribed in the Constitution, Article II, Section 1, which begins by saying the president "shall" take the oath "before he enter on the execution of his office."
