Former Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey announced this afternoon that he will join the law firm Debevoise & Plimpton as a partner, starting later this month.

The retired federal judge from New York will handle corporate investigations for the firm, where he will join a full roster of former government heavyweights, including onetime Manhattan U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White and former U.K. Attorney General Lord Goldsmith.

Mukasey left his post as the nation's chief law enforcement officer last month after spending more than a year in Washington. Bipartisan groups of lawmakers praised him for limiting contacts between prosecutors and the White House and for helping to improve morale at a department that had been demoralized by hiring scandals under his predecessor, Alberto R. Gonzales. Mukasey previously had told reporters that he felt most strongly about having worked to develop new national security investigation guidelines for FBI agents and shepherding changes to a critical foreign surveillance law through the system.

As a federal judge, Mukasey developed expertise in terrorism, overseeing the trial of Omar Abdel Rahman, also known as the Blind Sheik.

Mukasey said that the looks forward to working with lawyers at Debevoise, where he expects to work on behalf of corporate boards and oversee companies that have run afoul of the law as an independent monitor.

"His tenures on the bench, at the Justice Department and in private practice have all been characterized by his intelligence, principle and tireless energy," White said in a statement.

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT MUKASEY LAID THE GROUNDWORK FOR THE 'TAKE-DOWN' OF THE AMERICAN GESTAPO?

It was Mukasey who requested the internal report that has exposed the politically-motivated legal opinions from the Gozales-led Bush DOJ that attempted to legalize various forms of torture...

INCLUDING, the mainstream media is learning, the covert "use" of radiation weaponry on "innocent but targeted" U.S. citizens, APPROVED by the Gonzales-Bush-Cheney DOJ...

... in a STILL-ONGOING campaign that could be described as a slow-kill genocide/politicide.

Indeed, some have asked: Was that "fainting spell" before the Federal Society late last year really a "directed energy weapon" attack on the attorney general -- a no-so-veiled "warning" for him to stay in line?

Hey anal, I mean anaf, I don't believe you voted for Obama. Be that as it may, I am sure he can do without your vote the next time. You and mockingbird are just farting out of your mouths with gibberish. Sell crazy somewhere else. We're all stocked up here!

Hussein Obama will break most every campaign promise he made to us. Now I see the light, he spoke the truth then but lives the lies now.
No more positive HOPE, now it's just CHANGE for the worst. He now is talking down America and making the stupid people afraid of what's to come. What an ego trip this dictator in the making must be on. It's quite apparent with the smug look on his face and his sidekick Bozo-Biden looking on in awe, smirking and giggling at how BHO has manipulated the general public so well.

Obama is basically still running for office, he wants in again and will continue to do his magic show through the entire 4 years. All I can say is next time, he does not get my vote!

In his first month, President Obama had talked down the economy and engineered a huge surge in federal spending. Now, as Obama escalates a new war in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the bills will come due. The pain is only beginning.

People look ahead at this and don't like what they see. Their gloomy view of the future further saps their confidence in the present. More than ever, they need what candidate Obama promised: hope. It's not what they're hearing from Obama as president.

Um, Mukasey was a member of the Bush Administration. Why is this posted in a blog feature entitled "44: The Obama Presidency"?

gee, can you say USA Patriot Act and the National Surveillance Administration, in which Baby Bush 43 (& every state's local law enforcement agency) went wild with.

Of the neocons who made torture as American as apple pie, Mucousey is my favorite!

He performed superbly as one of Bush's willing executioners, and it's no surprise he's landed such a prestigious position.

You get 'em Mikey--

America tortures, and the rest of the world appreciates the terrorism we're spreading in the name of freedom, justice and the Carlyle Group!

And Halliburton!

and the American Enterprise Institute!

and the Drudgereport!
