Huckabee, in CPAC Speech, Blasts McCain, Democrats, Socialisms

By Joel Achenbach
Socialism in America: That's a big theme we're picking up as we dip into the Conservative Political Action Conference, which kicked off this morning at the Omni Shoreham. The presence of thousands of conferees proves that conservatives still do exist in this country, though they're not exactly happy warriors at the moment. They're more like shipwreck survivors, marooned on a desert island.

And wondering who will come rescue them.

"There is nobody that combines the youth and character and intellectual capacity that's required of national office today," says a 70-year-old retired engineer from upstate New York who will give his name only as Neil. "Too many years of Bob Dole, Jack Kemp, John McCain. They dragged up George Bush as a young guy in 2000 in order to get somebody who was at least not an old man."

And how did that work out?

"From a conservative point of view, you had a guy who was basically a liberal, like the father."

If the Bushes were liberals, what does that make Obama?

A democratic socialist, he said. On the European model.

The somber mood of the conference perked up a bit when Mike Huckabee took the stage this afternoon, spraying verbal fire at Obama and the Democrats, but also at his former rival McCain. The Arkansas governor said that when McCain suspended his campaign last September and flew back to Washington to deal with the financial crisis, he "meekly" joined Obama and voted for the $700 billion bank bailout.

He noted the wasteful spending of congressional Republicans when they had power, and the botched response to Katrina by the Bush Administration.

"You know what kind of conservatives we need to be first and foremost? Competent conservatives," he said.

He said the free market should be permitted to engage in creative destruction to restore the economy to equilibrium. What's happening instead, he said, is the establishment of "socialist republics" in the United States.

"Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff," Huckabee declared.

He said the stimulus package should be called the Congressional Recovery Action Plan, because it smells like its acronym.

Are you saying the services and needs you listed are not taxed now? The fact is everything right now is taxed, whether the Government has anything to do with it or not.

All the Fair Tax does is switch the fundamental of Government taxing away from personal property (Which is a founding of the American republic) to services, while helping people of limited means. This is a much fairer, and economically sounder way to fund a republican Government. Obviously you believe that Government owns people and not God, and Government can take anything from anybody no matter the moral righteousness.

And you might want to use spell check the next time you post.

Limbaugh, Huckabee, etc. are all cut from the same cloth -- outdated, out-of-touch, and worn-out failed policies....

Of course, they think that they are the only ones who are right.

Well, I've got news for them -- right is not always right and left is not always wrong.

They can take their extreme views and failed policies and go to Alaska and watch Alaska from Palin's front porch.

The yearly cost for our government to send out the FairTax Prebate $700 billon.
Now what was Mr. Huckabee saying?

Posted by: nobreez | February 28, 2009 4:46 PM | Report abuse

I do Like Huckabee, However he has one major flaw, THE FAIRTAX. Talk about socialism, they going to send everyone a check for nothing? If he wants to make fun of a bill he should look at the one he supports. Most everyone fighting for it has never read the Bill, they just hear the sales pitch. People are being so mislead by the FairTax its unbelievable. It's really hard for me to believe Huckabee is also letting people be mislead. Go see the Bill and understand it so you don't fall for it, because everything's going to be taxed, RENT, FOOD, BANKING, EVEN FREE CHECKING, BABYSITTING, HEATH CARE, CAR+HOME INSURANCE, POWER+PNONE+CABLE BILLS, EVERY DOLLAR TOWARD GAS + HEATING OIL It even Taxes THE GOVERNMENTS- FEDERAL, STATE & TOWN, EVEN GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES, TAXES EVERYTHING.even your Childs LITTLE LEAGUE BALLGAME,+ CHURCH FUNDRAISERS GETS TAXED!!. Since it's a gross tax ( 23% inclusive) this makes it a 30% exclusive rate and that's a increase tax of 30% and the bill says it is only that for a year then goes up..
Fair Tax Bill-
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h109-25
OR the Plan English version- http://www.fairtax.org/PDF/PlainEnglishSummary_TheFairTaxAct2007.pdf

They say "Enables workers to keep their entire paychecks" This May not be true according to Neal Boortz, In 2005 he had to put out another small book - THE FAIRTAX --- STRAIGHTENING OUT SOME CONFUSION Where his first book was misleading.
According to him, the taxes took out of someone's paycheck belongs to the employer not the worker and he says that keeping all your pay means you will at least bring home what you conceder take home pay now. He also says that in order for the embedded tax to come out of the product the employer will have to keep the tax they pay on a workers behalf, meaning your net pay will be the same as now.

Go see it- http://boortz.com/nuze/200509/09152005.html

Limbaugh is a big, fat, bloated, blood sucking tick on a dog's ass. If he had an ounce of credibility and honor he would tithe half his income to the Clinton Library. Without the Clinton's he would be a graveyard shift taxi cab dispatcher back in Cape Girardeaux getting fatter on donuts and coffee every night.

Huckabee is just plain scary. Especially if he starts having conversations with God.

In the past eight years the period between the year 2001 up to the year 2008 The United States administrated and ruled by the Republicans . During that period the Price of the oil increased up. The price of the only one barrel reached up to 150 US$. Because a member of the OIL EMPIRE and the partner of the GCC ( the Gulf Co-op oration Council countries ) G. W. Bush was the president of the United States of America . G. W. Bush was working for himself , for Bush's family , for the Empire of oil , for his partners and for Zionists .
He worked to make the over price 100 US$ on each Barrel of oil . Bush's family and their partners were producting about 20 million barrels daily. That means they were making benefits from the over price the amount of 20.000,000 x 100 US$ daily which = equals 2,000,000,000 US$.2Billion US$ .
Then I will multiply this Number in 365 days ( the days of the one year ) to get the over price amount of the year it will be 2,000,000, x 365 =730,000,000 US$ .Then Let me multiply this Number in eight the years which G.W.Bush was in the Whitehouse .
It will be as follow:
730,000,000 x 8 = 5,840,000,000 US$. This is the number of the over price of the oil during in the period Jan 21 , 2001 up to Jan 19 , 2009 .G.W. Bush to cover this As many sides wrote or filmed in videos G.W. Bush attacked the World Trade Centre in New York in 9/11 ,2001 , the he created what called terrorist , He created the anthrax , he created cross war against Muslim Nations , He created civil war in several countries, he created lie and thrifty administration in the first time of the history of the United States , he created police/spy/bloody regime , he created illegal prisons around the world , He created fear in the United States/ all over the world wide , he caused the bankrupting of some of the huge companies and great Numbers of big, medium and small companies too, the loose of millions of employees their jobs , poorness and the destroying of capitalism .
After that in shameless one of the Republicans is writing and speaking about the economy and socialism then blaming the Democrats who are correcting and trying to rebuild America .

"So, 40 years later, did Medicare destroy your freedom?"

Destroy? No. Mitigate or severely reduce? Yes. I am not a rich man by any standards, I am squarely in Obama's "middle class". Some 30% of my salary goes to a variety of taxes - US and state income tax, sales tax, property tax, excise tax, etc. Another 15% of my income goes to Medicare and Social Security programs with eroding benefits and no clear assurances that there will be anything left for me and my family when it is time for me to retire. Had I been free to invest those funds in the marketplace - even with the recent crash - I would be well-positioned for a dignified retirement. Instead I, like others, will be at least partially dependent on the largesse of government. Any man who is *dependent* on someone else is most certainly NOT free.

"From Wikipedia: Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating public or state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equal opportunities for all individuals, with a fair or egalitarian method of compensation.
"

I can change that... ;-)

"These people don't know what socialism is and need to be called on it time & time again. Socialism = state ownership."

Most modern States realize that it is not necessary for them to go through the trouble and expense of nationalizing companies by assuming ownership. Modern socialism is attained merely by effectively *controlling* the means of production. Once we see that corporate decisions are formed not by the market forces of customer demand and market supply but by government regulation, then we are a socialist society.

"Their ideas were voted out and against what part do they not get?"
Classic liberal tax-and-spend policies were voted out long before that. Why are we so incapable of developing really NEW ideas as opposed to rehashing the tired policies of both the Left AND the Right?

Okay nothing trickled down in the Reagan and Bush Sr. administrations. The Republicans do not get it. They keep doing the same thing expecting different results. READ MY LIPS: TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH DO NOT TRICKLE DOWN TO THE MIDDLE CLASS. We need spending to stimulate the ecnomy. Mr. Huckabee if your child was chronically ill would you say I cannot borrow money to take you to the doctor, because my child you may have to pay off that debt later on. So my child just ride out your sickness because you have to get sick in order to get better.
Mr Huckabee remember Bill Clinton who got us out of the republican mess by spending and in return the economy turned around.

Sadly, the American people went back to the trickle down voodoo economics and less government oversight by voting for Bush. Thus this catastrophic outcome.

Where are people in the Republican party that have ideas for our world today? Where are people that address the 21st century and America and it's people in the global economy and global crises. They are without ideas. They are bankrupt just like the unregulated banks and financial system. It would be only amusing to watch these cartoon characters rant, but our country needs at least two strong parties with pragmatic ideas. These people are just howling at the moon. This is like the Alice in Wonderland scenes of the Queens court playing ball games with flamingos and yelling "off with their heads, off with their heads!". In this case they are just yelling for our President's head. Do they realize that their idiocy and antics are written forever in i-space. What inspiration.

Huckabee is like the wolf in sheep's clothing. He has a pleasant personality and spouts off about Jesus but underneath this facade is a dark soul with very negative intentions. This becomes clearer and clearer as he exposes his base personality as that of a political opportunist. He is not a good man and both the left and the right should be careful not to fall under the spell he casts with his affability and self-serving religiosity.

The only thing I liked about Huck when he ran for President was his idea of abolishing the IRS ... wonder what kind of name calling that would have generated had he made a successful run? My question to the Bobby Jindles, Mike Huckabees, and Sarah Palins who are just dying to be Commander in Chief, so, what is your answer to the problem? And please, be more original than "let the free market fix itself. Hello, the free market created this mess! I am so sick and tired of the criticism and negativity. Do they not get that this is a serious issue and deserves serious ideas? No, we don't know if this stimulus is going to fix the economy, but we do know doing nothing is going to create a sunami of consequences that none of us want to experience. Instead, of coming up with cutesy anagrams, why don't they roll up their sleeves and try to be a part of the solution rather than being a "tinkling bell and a clanging cymbal?"

There would be a loud out cry. I personally, don't think this is a cure. A bandage, perhaps. These are the Last Days... The whole world, is in the the Throes of recession, depression. etc... None of these critics have a viable response to the grave yard, Bush left. People don't want to accept the reality of 2Timothy 3:1-5, still it is a part of reality. Nothing we do, will change that factor. People should be more concerned with the Bigger Picture. It involves every man, woman and child, on the face of the earth.

Well, at least a Republican is finally admitting that Republicans are in fact Socialists. When was the last time they put abolishing Social Security and Medicare on their platform? Heck, if I remember right, they boldly used their total monopoly of the federal government to create the largest expansion of Medicare in history. And then they complain about socialism? Man.

In Greek Mythology, the hideous Gorgons had one eye that they shared between them, each getting a turn with it. The hideous Republicans seem to have a similar situation going on, except it seems like they have but one brain between them all and each gets to use it for a moment. This was Huckabee's moment, I guess. No one gets to keep it long enough to form a complete thought, but there are brief flashes of perception here and there once in a while, anyway.

The far right hasn't changed since I was a kid. (a long long time ago)

In the '50s, the Young Americans for Freedom, a nice conservative organization and the John Birch Society considered Dwight Eisenhower a "commie", "pinko" and "fellow traveler". Afterall, he agreed to a truce with N. Korea and didn't attack China and oust Mao.

The right hasn't changed a bit.

Huck showed himself to be a bible thumping moron conpletely divorced from reality. Like Jindal a few nights ago he is fine with the idea of doing nothing and letting people starve in the streets or die outside a hospital while the economy "creatively destructs". People with money always think that's a great idea.

When the mob shows up outside their gated homes they usually have second thoughts. Ask Marie Antoinette or Nicholas II.

With "leadership" like this the GOP is in for a long long winter in the wilderness.

If what Obama wants to do is socialism, then Australia and Canada and France and Germany and Great Britain and Italy and Spain and Russia and The Netherlands and Belgium and Switzerland and Norway and Austria and Greece and Denmark and Ireland and Finland and Portugal and Japan and South Korea and Taiwan and New Zealand and Israel and every other western and/or capitalist country is “socialist,” too.

None of those countries would ever be confused with anywhere Stalin or Lenin would have run. The people in those countries are all perfectly free – to speak, live, believe whatever they want.

These right-wingers just use the word socialist to demonize American liberals as crazy left-wingers, when in any other free country they would be viewed as moderates, or even conservatives. It’s a strategy to scare people, plain and simple.

Republicans did it to FDR when he created Social Security. Ronald Reagan did it to the Democrats in the ‘60s when they were trying to create Medicare. Here’s what he said about Medicare: “Freedom is always just one generation away from extinction. We don’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream; we have to fight for it and protect it, and then hand it to them so that they shall do the same, or we’re going to find ourselves spending our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children about a time in America, back in the day, when men and women were free.”

So, 40 years later, did Medicare destroy your freedom? Do you live in a tyranny? Of course you don’t. It was idiocy then, and it’s idiocy now.

"If the Bushes were liberals, what does that make Obama?
A democratic socialist...on the European model [says [a 70-year-old retired engineer from upstate New York who will give his name only as Neil]."
------------------
"Neil," you calling someone else an extremist is the pot calling the kettle black.

The center IS to the left of your position, "Neil," and that's a good thing, because the center is where the majority of Americans lie. Our current President, our last President, and many Presidents before them were essentially centrists, and therefore represent a majority of the people they govern.

You are irrelevant except to act as a barometer of extremism, so those of us with common sense can find the center.

And lest you think I'm being unfair, I think the same thing of hardcore left-wing socialists too. Mostly irrelevant.

And to that end, your definition of who is or is not a "socialist" is largely skewed and therefore should be disregarded entirely.

My favorite part of this story is that Huckabee, "[s]aid the free market should be permitted to engage in creative destruction to restore the economy to equilibrium." Isn't "creative destruction" exactly what has occurred in this economy over the last 8 years!? It is amazing to me that conservatives hold tight to this belief that more of the same - "creative destruction" - will somehow lead to a solution to this enormous problem. I was always told growing up, if you want to keep getting what you're getting then keep doing what you're doing.

He backed a Federally funded interstate system, enlarged Social Security and created the civilian space agency, NASA. He also warned of the influence of the military industrial complex.

Huckabee is wrong, of course, when he accuses Obama and the Democrats of building socialism in the US. The sad part is Huckabee is old enough to know better. He is old enough to remember the Soviet Union, and that during their period of decline.

So he should know better than to imitate all those younger blowhards who confuse liberalism with socialism. But he is doing it anyway. Why? Probably because the conservative movement is in such disarray, they can't really rally around anything else.

This is really sad. It guarantees their irrelevance for the next 8 years, maybe longer.

Huckabee is a nice guy but a Huckster the conservatives and bushies caused all this and they can't stand the heat, the blame, or the medicine. Their ideas were voted out and against what part do they not get?
