With Easter Approaching, Pastor Waits on Word from the White House

Updated 2:27 p.m.
By Hamil R. Harris
Despite media reports that President Obama and the first family plan to worship this Easter Sunday at his church, the pastor of the 19th Street Baptist Church is still waiting by the phone.

"We have not heard anything from the White House," said Rev. Derek Harkins, pastor of the 19th Street Baptist Church, where the first family worshiped the Sunday before Obama was inaugurated.

Since then, the Obamas have not attended Sunday services in the District even though, upon their arrival in the city, many churches extended the welcome mat to the Obamas.

That may in part be due to the fact that the president and his family have spent many of their weekends since January 20 outside of the city, at Camp David and elsewhere.

But Obama also has kept his distance from any church, except for official events, since he left the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago following the Jeremiah Wright controversy.

Regardless of whether the Obamas come or not, Harkins said his Easter message will be the same. "Easter is an occasion when the message is the same regardless of who is in the pews."

A White House aide said no church has been selected.

Not to worry SAINT and JakeD, as we all know; once we are called hateful or some other vile name, we have pointed out one or more of Obama's actions that there is no logical or truthful defense to.

Happy Easter to all of the haters who appear to be posting in full force today.

JakeD - I did not single you out; You did that all by yourself. I refer mainly to SAINT and pearsontla, but the overall tone of MANY (not ALL) of the posts left about President Obama, on WAPO, are hateful in tone.

Yes, it's sooooo hard to find a decent Racist Church these days!

Especially one with a Cleric who also admires Farrakhan, and extremist Islamic Views!

Sigh!

No matter where the President and his family attend services it will be a media event that will likely disrupt the services for all who attend. A person does not have to attend a public service to worship; prayer can be done in the solitude of one's own home.

Does no one think that the President and his family might worship with one another without the glare of the media? Leave them alone - they deserve some privacy!!

So many of you here are so HATEFUL - I hope you do not think of yourselves as Christian, or for that matter a believer in any loving god.

Most likely the Obama family will have the service from Trinity United Church of Christ taped and shown in the White House for their convenience. The Obama family certainly have not shown any interest in attending another church and as Jeremiah Wright says; “Nuttin’ screams Easter like a good G.. D… America!!!

Mr. President (via Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod; staff, please forward):

We all pray for the resurrection of our civil and human rights. Here is one small example that illustrates how freedom is slipping away from us.

***

PERSONAL TO DHS SEC. JANET NAPOLITANO
cc: Atty. Gen. Eric Holder

(staff, please forward)

Sec. Napolitano:

After writing a commentary about apparent censorship and malicious interference by "fusion center" operatives, all the links allowing me to post to Dailykos.com have disappeared from display on my computer.

I have been shut down from posting to Dailykos.com, where I use the handle, "aviben."

I believe this is in direct retaliation for the post that began with these sentences:

** Gov't 'Fusion Center' Spying: Pretext to Harass and Censor? **

• Government surveillance programs apparently are not just for spying.

• Regional "fusion centers" administered by the Department of Homeland Security appear to use surveillance as a pretext...

...for psychological harassment, control over individual telecommunications accounts... and prior restraint and/or censorship of political speech and personal internet telecommunications.

• ACLU: Sue the government on THESE grounds -- which cannot be excused under any reasonable interpretation of the Patriot Act.

Sec. Napolitano, this is the United States of America, and not Nazi Germany. There is no possible justification for this apparent draconian censorship and malicious interference with my constitutionally-protected rights.

Could you please pick up the phone and tell your fusion center in Newtown, PA to stop interfering with my telecommunications?

Thank you.
