Gibbs Gives the Press a Report Card

By Howard Kurtz
The mighty media machine is gearing up to analyze, assess and otherwise sound off on President Obama's first 100 days in office. And the mighty White House press operation is cranking into action to tell the world what a bang-up job the boss has done.

In one of a spate of interviews that press secretary Robert Gibbs is granting during this period, he spoke to CNN's Wolf Blitzer, who asked how he would grade the White House press corps. The spokesman doled out a "strong A."

A Politico reporter asked Gibbs the same question moments later. The press corps "absolutely deserves an A," he said. "You guys ask good questions every single day."

This raises several distinct possibilities:

a) Gibbs genuinely believes that journalists are doing a superlative job and sees the daily grilling he gets as democracy in action;

b) Gibbs thinks the press is doing a lousy job but sees no percentage in picking a fight right now; or

c) Gibbs hopes to spur a little grade inflation in which those he is praising are in turn inclined to give Obama top marks.

At any rate, we give him an A for effort.

Where should I start with the analysis? Perhaps the incompetents like do nothing Napolitano at DHS, who thinks that the economy is more of a threat than terrorists, or open borders? She seems to be vying with Biden for the foot in the mouth award lately.
How about Obama for flipping on so many issues. No trials, but then again, probably after Soros' called, he's open to them? No lobbyists? Tax cheats?
How about the way he trashes our country whenever he goes in front of a foreign audience?
How about his insults for Britain, our staunchest ally, or when he stiffed Mr. Brown?
How about putting an inexperienced politico like Panetta in charge of the CIA, then releasing classified memos for our terrorists' consumption? Great way to build up our intelligence gathering capability.
How about his whining about the deficit he inherited from Bush, but then he trundles out a three trillion dollar budget full of political payoffs. We got into this mess because people borrowed more than they could repay, so Obama has now ensured taht the government will borrow more than we, our children, and our grandchildren can probably repay.
I don't it's right to kill unborn babies, for stem cells and I don't think marriage is for Adam and Steve, and I sure don't believe that (as Obama and company claim) ninety percent of all the guns going to Mexico, come from the U.S.
With all these issues, Gibbs goes in front of the lapdogs in the press room and tells them how good it all is.
So, I just save a lot of space and said what I think of both of them...after analyzing their P-Poor performance.
On speech class the rookie gets an A; on job performance, he's an incompetent and still gets an F.

* "Gibbs is FOS, and lies like his boss does. What an arrogant pseudo intellectual loser. Like his incompetent boss, he's in way over his head.

Larry, Stupid Season is over. We are so done with witless slams. How about a thoughtful insightful analysis of the current administration? We are in a difficult patch, we are trying to find solutions that irritate any number of special interests who do not have the nation's best interests at heart. So far, I would say that we all are doing as well as can be expected. A turnip could tell you that Obama is light years above the last occupant of the White House. Arrogant ignorance has been proven to be no better than your cheap shot at Gibbs. If you can get off your bitter box, you might acknowledge that we have elected a vast improvement over the corporate oligarchists of old.

LarryG62 must be one of those Compassionate Conservatives.

Just kidding Larry, I know you're just following the crowd. The entire Republican Party has come unhinged over the past few months/years. Being rejected by America twice in a row apparently wasn't enough of a clue that they've become radicalized.

Until I read a front page story about the Pentagon's ongoing "retired General" propaganda program against American citizens, a program in which much of the media has been complicit, the press as a whole will continue to get a D- from me.

an "A"....all depends on how hard the press pushed for follow-ups at the morning briefings.
follow ups are annoying
