President Obama, Burger Guy

By Amy Argetsinger
Just another lunch break at the White House: President Obama today zipped down to the Five Guys burger joint near Nationals Park -- just him, a couple aides, a motorcade's worth of security, the traveling press pool, Brian Williams, and the NBC camera crew that just happened to be trailing him today for a "day-in-the-life" documentary about POTUS.

The president, in shirtsleeves, shelled out at least $80 in cash, according to press-pool observers, to get sandwiches for his entourage and the crew -- including a burger with ketchup and fries for Williams, a cheeseburger with jalapeno, lettuce, mustard and tomato for himself. Chit-chatted with fellow customers, got a group photo with the restaurant staff, took his order out in two large paper bags to go. It's his second burger lunch in recent weeks -- Obama and Joe Biden ventured to Ray's Hell Burger in Arlington. Michelle Obama also visited another Five Guys in D.C. earlier this year.

For more, see C-SPAN video of the stop here.

"Opening Cuba? Sotomayor? Immigration reform? Now Jalapenos? That should wrap up the Hispanic vote..."

Nope! Boss Limbaugh, Liddy, Hannity, O'Really, Dobbs, Beck, Huckabee and Tancredo are taking care of that.

I really have little patience for extensive coverage of photo ops like this when there is more important stuff going on. It reduces the Post reporter to the position of a teen magazine writer covering Justin Timberlake or whoever the idol for preteens is today. The administrarion is playing NBC like a fiddle on this one.

And yes, I know that other presidents did this stuff too. But can't reporters recognize this stuff for what it is?

It's be SO great if the Post and other news outlets would remove the Comments feature completely. Then we wouldn't be tempted to read the trite, ranting, idiotic commentary of other readers, no matter what the subject of the article is. Who needs it?

Apparently, JWx2, you are going to spend all day on this page commenting on our comments. Or maybe you are just a slow reader. Enough of you, you've had your 6 mins of fame. Go run over your breakfast now. Roadkill is good this time of year.

Wow, there are some angry people out there. Maybe they should try eating some violent pretzels, the kind that attacked Dumbya and gave him a black eye...too bad the press did not follow that story to the end...I had never heard of killer pretzels till then. Oh, that's right, the press simply was shush for 8 yrs!

Rethuglicans will somehow find a way to bash Obama. Maybe Five Guys is too upscale and further evidence that Obama is a Muslim socialist liberal. They'll argue he should have gone to a less expensive establishment like McDonald's. The thugs never cease to disappoint with their vitriol.

He's eating another hamburger? Gee, I can't wait to see what kind of fainting couch moment the GOP turns it into this time.

ronnieron1...your so right. The Washington Post should run down obama on his burger runs. American's know that if we want a real true reporting about America we all tune to FOX NEWS....I hope you don't miss your koolaid recess and your daddy doesn't lose his job at Mcdonalds because obama prefers a better hamburger.

Posted by: JWx2 | May 29, 2009 6:33 PM

wow...the economy is in shambles the the washington post has nothing better to do with obama than post his burger fetish. I wonder who they have sitting in obama toilet waiting for the story about his 'dump'...of couse the washington post loves the brown eye view of their messiah.

get a grip! his foreign, economic, judicial policy/agenda is well reported and documented elsewhere on the site, and everywhere else on the net/tv/newspapers...surely the guy is allowed to get a burger on his lunch hour? and surely the press can devote a couple of paragraphs to the outing? an hour or two in a 24 hour day in a 7 day week....a little dose of reality people, please! c'mon and give us break....

I'm waiting for the article that shows us exactly how Obozzo wipes his rear end and what toilet paper he uses.

I have to imagine with 2 wars, a housing collapse, GM and Chrysler in bankruptcy,a "cyber crisis", etc, etc, etc, that the press has something better to do.

Oh I forgot, this is the American press so I guess between hype jobs for his nominees all we're going to see are burger joints. Were is an ojective journalist like Dan "I lied through my teeth" Rather when you need him. He's a gem compared to you pack of **** sucking sycophants.
