Granholm to Visit the White House

By Michael A. Fletcher
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) will visit the White House tomorrow, joining a group of industry and government officials for President Obama's expected announcement of new fuel efficiency standards and emission regulations for cars.

She could also be sticking around for a job interview.

Granholm is widely reported to be on the president's short list to fill an upcoming vacancy at the U.S. Supreme Court, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs left open the possibility that Obama could interview her for the job Tuesday. Asked about the prospect of a Granholm interview during her visit, Gibbs said her "primary objective" in coming is the announcement.

The Canadian-born Granholm, 50, is a graduate of Harvard Law School, who served as a federal prosecutor and Michigan attorney general before being elected governor in 2002.

At least one conservative group has launched an early salvo criticizing her for, among other things, her stewardship of Michigan, where the economy was in steep decline long before the global economic downturn.

As the White House continues to winnow the list of candidates to replace retiring Justice David H. Souter, Obama has not yet interviewed any candidates, Gibbs said today -- something that is sure to change soon.

People close to the process say the White House has enlisted outside lawyers to help review the legal work and otherwise vet candidates under consideration, and some expect that an announcement could come next week.

WHILE THE MEDIA FOCUSES ON SCOTUS,

DEMOCRACY IS BEING STOLEN AT THE GRASSROOTS.

BY A BUSH-CHENEY- SPAWNED GESTAPO-LIKE VIGILANTE ARMY...

...AN EXTRA-LEGAL AMERICAN GESTAPO THAT MAKES A MOCKERY OF THE RULE OF LAW.

When will Team Obama take down Bush-Cheney's "Extrajudicial Punishment Network"...

...which uses a covert GPS tracking system to stalk and terrorize unjustly "targeted" American families?

I don't think the President is going this way with his Supreme Court nomination. That is good because Jennifer Granholm or Janet Napolitano for that matter would be the Democratic equivalent of Harriet Miers.

They better check her taxes. 3 or 4 times.
Oh, that's right!!! With Geithner as Treasury Secretary, tax cheats are OK.

This is probably about the CAFE announcement, but you know SCOTUS will be on the side. Gibbs wasn't lying this afternoon, just not telling us everything...

Must we continue with the Harvard/Yale monoculture?
