Clinton Falls and Breaks Her Elbow

By Glenn Kessler
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton fractured her right elbow during a fall while headed to the White House yesterday afternoon, her office said in a midnight statement.

"She was treated at The George Washington University Hospital before heading home.  She will undergo surgery to repair her elbow in the upcoming week," chief of staff Cheryl Mills said.

The injury caused Clinton to cancel her appointments today, including a morning meeting with Angelina Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner on Refugees.

Better check your mouse for a major malfunction. Apparently it clicked through to the comments section without your realizing it.

Breaking an elbow is no fun. Been there, done that. The surgery will be to install internal fixation to hold the pieces of the elbow together. Additionally she will have a cast. She will be shaking hands and holding the phone with her left hand for a while.

Hillary does more service for this country with an arm in a sling than most people on this board will do in their lifetimes. I would love for some of you to be under the same microscope Hillary has been under for the last twenty years. I would never have voted for George Bush, but I don't think I would have gotten such a laugh out of his physical pain. Hillary is the hardest working official I've ever seen! To those of you who have obviously swallowed all the garbage spewed about Hillary for years ad nauseum, hold onto that media created image if it makes you happy, but know that you have been terribly misled and duped. Hillary is a extraordinarily noble servant for this country.

I've heard she's been hitting the sauce pretty heavy lately. Kissing your rivals behind can do that to a person.

Was she being shot at again?

I wonder if the Single Payer Universal Health Care she will be getting will work? For God's sake its' a Federally Administered program... and according to the Republicans, it won't work so poor Hillary will always have this fractured elbow and she won't be able to see her own doctors or anything! OMG her hair must be on fire!

Madame Secretary:
Please accept my deep sympathy for this accident.
Having broken my arm near my shoulder, I can say you're in for some discomfort and I hope all goes well with your surgery and recovery.
Please ignore all the ghouls on this comment thread.
They can't help themselves; just consider the source and disregard.
Thank you for all you are doing in service to our country.

Will Hillary and her trial lawyers sue the US government? Does this mean Slick Willy will have to put down his bimbo of the week to take care of his "WIFE"?

She deserves a MEDAL!
Not reported. Hillary was under intense machine gun fire, saved two aides and flew them all to safety! Obama has suppressed that part!
BUT...the TRUTH will come out.

Your mom is VERY smart, as it's been proven by REAL athletic associations that walking/running with weights is actually very BAD for you. I suggest that you listen to her.

I'd fall down and break my elbow, too, if it meant I could get out of meetings with brainless actresses like Angelina Jolie.

"I don't believe in coincidences." -- NCIS Special Agent Jethro Gibbs

***

First, Sotomayor stumbles and breaks a limb.

Then Secretary Clinton stumbles and breaks a limb.

Blog-mobbers make sick and depraved comments.

As was stated in this space before:

If I were writing a political spy novel, I'd posit that she was induced to stumble by a silent, pulsed-beam burst from a microwave radiation "directed energy weapon" of the type carried by her security detail...

...and the naive mainstream media would never suspect such a nefarious, Donald Segretti-like dirty trick.

But those things only happen in political spy novels. So, no worries, sheeple.

To all the whining right wingers complaining about criticism of the Bush administration:

Just what do you expect people to believe? That this was only 'invented' in the last eight years? That perhaps everyone has just forgotten about the over-the-top witch-hunting conservatives indulged in during the Clinton administration? Are you REALLY so incredibly stupid that you've forgotten or that you believe others have?

Non-partisan scholars have assessed Bush as one of the worst presidents ever. And you don't have to drum up hysteria over irrelevant nonsense (like somebody spending the night in the so-called Lincoln bedroom) to find plenty to criticize him about. You could always start with the fact that Bush lied the country into an unnecessary war then completely, disastrously botched the execution of it. Thousands of people dead, more thousands wounded, many more thousands displaced, trillions of dollars wasted . . . and your response is to whine that people criticize the person responsible.

Gotta be all about Obama's low poll numbers today
-------------

You know, I just haven't seen it.

Even the poll numbers, I don't know, something just rings false.

So I simply disregard it as the trash it is...

I mean, dumb is dumb, nothing can make stupid smart, not even poll numbers...

Hillary, Sec of State, promised in the primary elections to "obliterate" the Iranian nation if Ahmadinejad launched an attack against Israel.

How does she feel now about her comments which dehumanized and threatened an entire nation with destruction because of the actions of an a government unloved by so many of its citizens? Did she really mean to destroy the lives of all those Iranian citizens now risking their lives to demand democratic elections?

Hawkish Hillary should not have pandered to those who prefer war to diplomacy, especially to the alarmists who advocate destruction of Iran for the benefit of Israel.

I dunno.

Doesnt seem to have affected Sotomayer, won't affect Clinton, either.

And think of all the extra time she will have (if only a day) to really think about the problems the US faces internationally, and how to best go about solving them -- sometimes a breather, however unintended, is just the answer.

Funny that.

LOL.

And for all the weight jokes, I mean, cmon, you guys are hardly, um, competitive.

ROTFLMAO.

Judge Sotomayer falls and breaks an ankle and then Clinton falls and breaks an elbow? Hmm, either:

1) Obama picks women who are prone to falling (can't walk and speak at the same time?)
2) Clinton didn't want Judge Sotomayer to get too much sympathy
3) Clinton didn't have an appointment with Obama and the Secret Service tackled her
4) All of the above

I went to this story to see how badly the Secretary of State was injured only to discover a slew of immature right-wing Hillary-haters spitting out venomous comments. As a liberal, I've tried hard to defend conservatives to other liberals. They're simply people who hold different opinions from those we liberals hold about what's best for our country, right? Unfortunately, the evidence abounds that this is not true. I'm coming round to thinking the way my liberal friends think: Conservatives are self-righteous, deformed, mean-spirited people who do not know how to participate in public discourse.

Unfortunately, this fall combined with Judge Sotomayer's fall screams- osteoporosis. Kids and teens fall all the time and nothing happens to them because they have strong bones.
Perhaps they should get on their soapbox and tell women their age that they need to get off their butts and do cardio and weight bearing exercise to keep healthy bones. My mom walks (strolls at her age) all the time but even after I tell her to go to a program with weights, etc. she will not listen.
PSA needed!

While I wish Mrs. Clinton a full and speedy recovery, her fall and subsequent care puts the focus on healthcare reform. Our Congressmen and women along with Cabinet leaders get the very best of care. They get the kind of care that every American citizen wants to get. They get the care that is under fire now by the right in refusing to consider a public option. How many of us have been told that "your doctor is not on our preferred physicians list and therefore, can't be treated"? Will any of our leaders get turned away because they don't have insurance? Will their insurance companies deny them insurance in order to meet their profit objective? Just something to think about.

Obviously Ivy League female lawyers can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Its not like Madame Secrtary and Judge Sotamayor were wearing stripper Lexan platform shoes with 8in heels. Both were wearing sensible shoes. Time for the Obama administration to issue a work stoppage for safety and require all lawyers in the executive branch to take a remedial walking class to prevent any further injury!

People usually are injured from that sudden stop at the end, not "during a fall". I bet she didn't hurt herself but was just desperate for an excuse (as Sec of State) to keep saying nothing to Iranians.
If she did hurt herself, and if she had been successful with her socialized healthcare she wouldn't be having surgery to repair an elbow within a few days.
