Obama Summons "Spirit of America," Seeks Support for Initiatives

By Scott Wilson
President Obama today invoked the "spirit of America" to argue for health care, energy and education reform in a July 4 radio address that compared this moment in U.S. history to the turning points of past generations.

"We are not a people who fear the future. We are a people who make it," Obama said in his weekly radio address. "And on this July 4th, we need to summon that spirit once more. We need to summon the same spirit that inhabited Independence Hall two hundred and thirty-three years ago today."

Obama's health care and energy reform plans are moving through Congress, and raising concerns on both sides of the aisle regarding their cost and impact.

He has asked Congress to send him legislation on both issues this fall, an ambitious timetable lawmakers may not be able to meet.

In his address, Obama called the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, economic recession, escalating health care costs, the U.S. reliance on foreign oil and the poor state of public education "an array of challenges on a scale unseen in our time."

But he said that his political opponents have not grasped the urgency of resolving these problems. He rejected the frequent criticism that he is trying to take on too many issues at once, recalling the early revolutionaries in defending his ambitions.

"These naysayers have short memories," Obama said. "That we, as a people, did not get here by standing pat in a time of change. We did not get here by doing what was easy. That is not how a cluster of 13 colonies became the United States of America."

One more comment:

Obama uses American-spirited challenges to manipulate your thoughts and actions. His speeches are predictably laced with statements subversively implying anyone in opposition to his suggestions is somehow un-American; a reverse psychology ploy to force you into proving your Americanism by doing exactly what he suggests...and people are falling for it.

Abraham Lincoln once said: "No man governs another without that other's consent."

Why have we blindly given up our responsibility to govern ourselves? Why are we leaving some of the most important issues up to a small group of politicians who care nothing more than to tell us more lies so that they may continue to "serve" and doing nothing but live off of our hard-earned dollar? Why must we sit back and just let them take over OUR responsibilities and make all of our decisions?

Government should exist solely to protect The People. The People should decide how each tax dollar is to be spent. The People should decide to hold credit card companies accountable for their legalized loan-sharking. The People should decide to reform medical costs; who better to reform the system than the people who touch it everyday...not some heretical politician who knows nothing yet decides for us all.

True freedom is the right to live a long, happy and fruitful life as long as the implementation of that freedom does not encroach on the lives or freedoms of others…no matter their skin color, religious beliefs, or national origin.

Think for yourselves, do for yourselves. This is NOT the Change that was promised!

I submitted a much longer version of this earlier; maybe this shorter version will fit better:

Mr. FormerRepublican, how dare you criticize a man's effort to provide safety to you and other citizens of this country! Let me remind you that the soldiers who gave their lives during this war did so bravely and with great dignity; don’t you dare take that from them. Shame on your for using them in your misguided effort to throw blame.

Since when has there ever been a President that was perfect or without blame? Each has done well...and poorly. Our current financial state was the result of a well-intentioned yet grossly misguided effort to give every citizen the right to own a home. Thank you Mr. Clinton. But you blame President Bush for this. He had quite a difficult time addressing the pending financial crisis while also answering our demands for retaliation against terrorists for 9-11. On that day, if President Bush had told you we were facing a financial crash, would you have cared? If he had told you 6 months earlier that we were vulnerable to a terrorist attack of that magnitude, would you have allowed the rigorous airport security measures we now employ?

Your President Obama is releasing brutal mass murderers from Gitmo, yet we continue to imprison people for not paying parking tickets or child support! How ludicrous is that?! About a ludicrous as thinking that a lawyer knows the best way to reform medical care or financial practices.

To Formerrepublican:

Billions! So the cure is the trillions, yes trillions, this administration wants to spend on the cure! Do you realize how much just one (just one, ha ha) trillion is?

President Bush is accused of being an Imperialist President. What on earth would you call King Obama? A Czar for everything under the sun, so that there is no congressional oversight, the seizure of private enterprises, the seizure of banking institutions, the complete lack of transparency, the management of the press and the questions journalists are "allowed" to ask, etc.

Although nobody making under $250k, later changed to 200k,would see any tax increase, we are about to see the biggest tax increases you could possibly ever imagine if "Cap and Trade" is passed. Every single thing you buy, every kilowatt of energy you use, every gallon of gas you put in your car, is going up.

Since we don't have any of those trillions I mentioned before, we are also being setup for hyperinflation as well, because the fed is just printing the money we don't have.

You really need to wake up.

I find it Ironic that educated, progressive people are unwilling to put to bed or even seriously discuss some obvious inconsistencies that a large percentage of the masses are seeing. The lack of transparency on this issue, amount of energy spent on defense from the accused is astounding and leads me to start believing the opposition that our President is indeed an illegal alien and the first one foreign born (in Mombasa, Kenya). Could you imagine the uproar if this was a conservative politician not President Obama? I personally would love to see this answered once and for all but somehow I doubt that the ruling elitists will allow it.
A birth announcement in a local paper would be an obvious step along with obtaining a certificate of live birth instead of a regular birth certificate to make the foreign born baby appear American for all the obvious advantages that would allow. On the surface this would appear to warrant further investigation.
What a double standard, the unsubstantiated accusations that are propagated on Palin are printed as fact and any reasonable assumptions on Obama are dismissed as insane ramblings is unacceptable and must be answered.

I am so happy to be proud to be an American again. Thanks, President Obama!

Support HR 1207 to audit the Federal Reserve.

Support HR 1868 to end the so called Anchor Baby entitlement. This would require one parent of a child to be a US citizen at the time of birth to obtain citizenship.

Yes let's return to the values of our Founders. End the Federal Reserve. Bring the Treasury and the purse back under the control of the Congress. End the erosion of the Constitution and cut-back on the authority of the President to restore the separation of power.

Obama is clueless on the values of our Founders. With the creation of debt, creation of more unions, building more entitlement programs they would be astounded at the state of our Country.

2010 vote all of the Spendocrats out of office. Anyone that signed the bail-out bill or cap and tax without reading it to start with.

What did the Zionists expect from Obama, a muslim Brother ? Or do they really want a communist Israel? Even Jews themselves have trouble knowing who their real friends are from the past, or keeping up with modern answers to questions like these.

So, Barney Frank, Dodd and that whole Fannie Freddie democrat backed debacle had absolutely nothing to do the the mess we're in Huh? And by the way where the heck did all the stimulus money go?

The worst thing that Bush-Cheney did was to screw up America so bad is that they made 53 per cent of voters choose Obama-Biden. But that turned out to be false hope in very short order. I will never vote for Obama again, and I hope the GOP wins at least the House in 2010.

Every Democrat should repeat over and over again the fact that we are in this mess because of Bush and Cheney. Could anyone else have done a better job than our President in trying to get us back on track after Bush and Cheney sent us to a war that cost us lives and billions -- yes, billions -- of dollars? Couldn't those billions and billions of dollars have been used for health care, education, and the numerous other issues that our country so requires. You bet! But Bush and Cheney squandered that money -- and the lives of so many of our young people. Come on, Democrats. Let's not let the world forget this! And stop telling false tales, you so-called Republicans. You -- and we -- know it was your party that brought us to these crises. Instead of being barriers to success, how about acting like good Americans, work with our President who is loved by the majority of us citizens, and help to move us out of this mire in which you have placed us.
