Palin Doesn't Have a New Job Lined Up, Her Attorney Says

By Kimberly Kindy
Departing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has no new job offer and is resigning because of her combative relationship with the state legislature and because of the distractions and costs of fighting off numerous ethics complaints, her private attorney said.

In an interview with The Washington Post this week, attorney Thomas V. Van Flein said Palin has "received hundreds of credible offers since the campaign, none of which she has accepted or pursued, with the exception of her book deal."

Among the offers were jobs in media, including offers to host her own talk show, and requests that she consider appearances in Hollywood productions, he said, declining to be more specific.

Van Flein said he hopes Palin will take time off to rest and be with her family but said, "she is a woman with a lot of energy. We'll see."

Palin and state lawmakers have acknowledged the growing strain in their working relationship since she returned from the campaign trail with Arizona Sen. John McCain. Van Flein attributed the strain largely to the partisan role she played in the campaign.

He said Alaska lawmakers and residents were accustomed to a bipartisan governor, and were taken by surprise by much of the criticism Palin aimed at Obama and Biden during the campaign.

"Lines were drawn. McCain was to play the role of statesman and Palin was to play the role of a partisan," he said. "She didn't change but the people around her, their perspective of her changed."

The state estimates it has spent nearly $2 million to process public records act requests focused on Palin and to investigate as many as 19 ethics complaints filed against her. Van Flein said this week's filing of yet another complaint, this one accusing Palin of claiming a $60 travel reimbursement for days she worked in Anchorage and stayed at her home 45 miles away in Wasilla, was a sign that the complaints were likely to keep coming.

"She felt she needed to step aside," he said. "It was becoming a huge distraction."

And who dragged this teen aged boy into the limelight? Again Mrs. Palin. He was a teen dragged into the spotlight to make her and her family look good. So when reporters came flocking what would any teen aged boy do? If she can use him for her benefit why can't he get something out of it as well?

Levi Johnston, ex-boyfriend and baby-daddy to Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, has put his would-be mother-in-law on the defensive by saying that the Alaska governor hastily abandoned her position in order to cash in on fame. "[She] had talked about how nice it would be to take some of this money people have been offering us and just run with it, and saying forget everything else," said the 19-year-old during a news conference in Anchorage.

I was one who thought that Sarah Palin was the only bright spot on the (R) side after they chose McCain, aka, Yosemite Sam...have to say this part of the story I had not counted on nor predicted. I still have faith in where she's headed. While she doesn't have the $$ that Meg Whitman had after leaving her last job, there are some strong women in the (R) group.

Hang in there Sarah we are still talking about you.

the picture of Sarah Palin in this article was not taken in Wasilla. The Palin's set net site is in Bristol bay. (hence the daughters name) Bristol bay is approximatly 150 miles south west of Wasilla. basic research...keep up the good work!

Palin plays a very important social role in America. She provides employment to hundreds of lazy and stupid reporters and pundits who have nothing better to do than write stories about her.

Unfortunately, we have not seen the last of her. All the media does is make her more popular.

Welcome to the world within which Bill and Hillary Clinton have lived for twenty years now.

Sarah is incompetent even as a parent. Her first 3 kids are poorly educated, had drugs, eldest girl got pregnant and did not graduate from high school. Very poor parenting, considering she has a husband who does not seem to have a job. What is there to admire about Palin? She can't speak in complete sentences (like Dubya), she has a smattering of intellect and she lies a lot. 2008 was her chance and she blew it. Ms. Palin might have been played by the McCain campaign, but she willingly and enthusiastically played the ATTCACK DOG role. She went beyond “the attack dog” role by throwing everything to Obama/Biden team and continued to play that partisan role post election. She can’t blame anyone on that. She certainly can’t blame that on Democrats as Republicans control Alaska legislation.
Personally, I don’t think her woes can completely be attributed to “her attacks”. It’s more her intellect and character or rather lack of character.

She arrives a "Sarah who", gives a speech that gets the highest ratings ever for a political convention, punches a big dent in the only other "outsider" in the race (who had accepted his party's nomination a few weeks before. Can't understand why anyone in an opposition party would throw everything they had at someone who gained a bigger audience three seconds after she began her speech than the bunch that had spent billions of dollars and three years of taxpayer-funded money getting ready.

And the comments here just repeat the theme -- We're so scared of this person, we will say or do anything to get her out of the way. And if you're a media person or lawyer -- your handiwork cost our country a charismatic leader. I see the pride in the accomplishment welling up already.

I'm proud of my President for the same reason -- the guy has guts and gets stuff done -- don't agree with some of the philosophies, but the charisma and leadership is to be appreciated and honored.

And you party loyalists -- you'd vote for a fire hydrant if it had your party's colors -- Yeah, I'm really anxious to have your careful deliberation choosing who will lead our country.

Wow, 2 different names posted the same stuff about Malia Obama's shorts. I looked at the pictures and they are definately shorts and not hot pants. First question, why the fuss? Kids don't like hot weather anymore then adults do, and little girls have worn short dresses since the beginning of time. Second, Malia Obama's what, 11? Why on earth are you noticing her sex appeal when she doesn't even have breasts??

And I know people are up in arms about Bristol Palin's pregnancy, but she's a legel adult now isn't she? And she is old enough to have a sex life and boyfriend. Talking about her sex life is perhaps not in good taste but is not quite the same thing as oogling a preteen who hasn't gone through puberty.

Come outside in Washington and you'll real Daisy Dukes. Go downtown Annapolis MD and you'll see real Daisy Dukes or the popular Annapolis Mall.

That photo was the weakest argument I've seen and is an obvious sign of desperation.

You and others don't get it. The issue with Palin and her daughter is not that she had a baby. THEY made it an issue by trying to put the family out there and on top of it LYING. That boy wasn't going to marry that girl unless Palin made it into office IF... even then.

She is going to support her child and grandchild like most other parents are but at the same time knock them for doing so???

Everything that I see them doing is for money. I'm waiting on Todd to join Dancing with the Stars or some type of reality show or something.

All this "I'm a victim" crying needs to end. I don't think that is a good sign of leadership. Neither is quitting. Neither is lying to your people that you would finish out your term and continue to govern. Or is that she didn't want to lose twice in a row. hmmmmm...

Do Republicans even remember that John McCain (one of their party's members that they had loved to hate in the 90s and who they made an undeniably foolish choice in nominating) is the person who brought this foolish, mentally unbalanced woman into the spotlight in the first place? Would she have ever arrived there on her own? Im a proud independent who has supported candidates on both sides over the last 3 decades, and Im anything but a "liberal" when it comes to issues like gun control and death penalty. But I have been completely mystified at the utter self-destructive nature of Republicans. It's bad enough that youve put loud, brash, obnoxiously self-righteous egomaniacs like Ann Coulter up as your media standard bearers, but to keep supporting this chickenbrained infant beyond all reason makes YOUR intelligence suspect.

Im starting to think the "dumbing down" of America that started in the 70s has worked all too well. People worship stupidity now. It's a sickening statement about American culture, and its the REAL reason that Europeans rightly laugh at most of our politicians. After a decade of having to literally cringe when Bush would come on the air to speak live, waiting for the inevitably halfwitted giggling and leering at the reporters as he muffs line after line, it just outrages me that some Republicans (hopefully a minority) still try to defend Palin as a credible Leader of the Free World. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, if you have the depth of personality to achieve that much self-reflection.

It seems she brought much of this upon herself. Even if she was the partisan pawn, one shouldn't go around calling opponents terrorists, etc. She was vicious. And the whole bit about 'we're the real America' was over the top and divisive. As for the ethics complaints, perhaps her ethics are as specious as her logic.

"Anybody who thinks that Palin is a bad parent, go take a look on the Drudge Reports of the photo of Malia Obama wearing Daisy Dukes and looking like something out of Taxi Driver. Based on that photo, the Obamas will be grandparents before his term is out.

"However, when people like abby0802 make comments about her being a mother to her children, I want to slap somebody."

Do you have kids? Generally in most families the mother tends to be the nurturer much more than the father. I don't know about Palin's kids, however I do know that she herself is a m oron of the highest order. As are her followers.

One of the reasons they might want to mention her daughter is Palin's adamant and uncompromising views about traditional family values and her religious and totally unworkable theory of abstinence from sex for teenagers.

She chastises liberals for allowing society to degenerate, in her opinion, but then unashamedly dragged her unwed preganant daughter on to a national stage and forced the girl into the spotlight. All the while, incredulously, brushing off the failure of abstinence in her family as "no big deal, what's all the fuss about?"

It was never about the daughter. It was always about Sarah. She tends to follow the doctrine of "don't do as I do, but do as I say."

Some of us, not all of course, but some of us, have had about a buttfull of people like her telling us how we don't live up to their hypocritical expectations of society as they dream it should be.

I miss Tammy Faye Bakker. And I will miss Sarah Palin too. She is to be revered for her comedic value. As Hunter S. Thompson used to say: "It hasn't gotten weird enough yet."

In other news, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

I suggest Sarah put in an application with a company like 'Job Temps'. I think they specialize in short term assignments.

I am definitely not a Palin fan and would not vote for her for dog catcher. However, when people like abby0802 make comments about her being a mother to her children, I want to slap somebody. Has anyone said this to a man? Did anyone tell Al Gore to be a father to his son when he was being arrested for drugs? Nope, they just said "Oh they are dealing with it privately; what a wonderful parent" and yet because Sarah Palin's daughter had a baby, we have to slam her as a mother. News flash: babies are not illegal. It's women like Abby who keep other women from being able to achieve these heights. Shame on you.

************************************

I don't remember Al Gore throwing his son on a stage, extolling the "values" that everyone else should live by. Huge difference.

Sarah Palin "returned" to Alaska, and then ignored her state to keep herself relevant in the rest of the country. Perhaps that is why lawmakers (Republican, as well as Democrat) found that they could not work with her. It's hard to work with someone who isn't there, and who isn't focused on the job she should be doing.

It was her own party, as well as the Opposition, that found her impossible. Don't try to play the partisan split here. Some of us are smart enough to do some research on our own.

And if the media is so bad why does she invite them with her on a fishing trip? Palin's supporters will tell you that it is to clarify things. Well Palin's clarifications are as jumbled as her resignation speech. For a Journalism Major her communication skills SUCK!

I agree that the public seems to be biased towards the subject of Bristol, her daughter. We tend to ignore the childern of men and their lack of a "parenting" ablitiy but we place entire weights of judging a woman's poltics based how how she raises her kids. If anything, it should go to show you that she is just like the rest of us- she has her family problems and is sure as heck on our level!

Also, if you actually look at her accomplishments in Alaska before running, she does sound like quite the sucessful poltician. A mess of mishandled media and publicity I think messed her up. I would actually like to see what she could do with herself.

I simply cannot believe that this woman is the darling of the conservative party. How can one be a quitter and a "fighter" at the same time? Why are people even listening to her when she stands there in her (extremely attractive) waders, or in front of a guy killing turkeys and completely reinvent the English language? Moreover how could anyone donate so much as a nickle in support of her ridiculous efforts? Certainly we are a bit smarter than than...aren't we?

I have a job for Palin. How about trying to be a mother to her children? oops.... She already messed that one up, great parenting skills with Bristol.

How about she just go away?

How about the media not reporting on her anymore?

She's so yesterday's news, so irrelevant, so wacko....

This woman is an albatross. She needs to fade away before she further damages the GOP.
