Palin Takes to Twitter to Decry Critics

By Garance Franke-Ruta and Scott Wilson
After a low-profile Fourth of July, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took to Twitter this morning to decry her critics and urge supporters to weather the media criticism over her decision to resign as governor of Alaska.

"Critics are spinning, so hang in there as they feed false info on the right decision made as I enter last yr in office to not run again...." she wrote from TwitterBerry, a mobile device application for Twitter.

The brief message, consistent with the tone of her Friday news conference when she condemned as "blood sport" the national political process, came after a morning of Washington talk shows dissecting her decision to resign a year and half before the end of her term.

Much of the commentary was sharply negative, including analysis from her fellow Republicans. On "This Week with George Stephanopolous," a roundtable of prominent political strategists and reporters spent a good chunk of time speculating about her mental state in harsh terms first put forward by panelist Todd Purdum in a withering Vanity Fair article last week.

"so I'll make attempt to keep up w/attaching corrected info. I head 2 West AK villages today, look forward to their busy comm fish activity!" Palin continued in a second tweet. Palin has 56,979 followers on Twitter.

It was the third time in half a day Palin has taken to Twitter in an attempt to push back at the speculation about why she has chosen to leave office. Late last night, Eastern standard time, Palin tweeted, "See letter from my attorney on baseless allegations of past 24hrs @ http://tinyurl.com/l4ct5n."

That letter was a detailed point-by-point refutation of allegations circulating on blogs about a rumored investigation that Palin's private attorney Thomas Van Flein said did not exist.

"Several unscrupulous people have asserted false and defamatory allegations that the 'real' reasons for Governor Palin's resignation stem from an alleged criminal investigation pertaining to the construction of the Wasilla Sports Complex," Van Flein wrote. "This canard was first floated by Democrat operatives in September 2008 during the national campaign and followed up by sympathetic Democratic writers. It was easily rebutted then as one of many fabrications about Sarah Palin."

The letter also made clear Palin's growing animosity toward members of the press. "Just as power abhors a vacuum, modern journalism apparently abhors any type of due diligence and fact checking before scurrilous allegations are repeated as fact," her attorney wrote, warning media outlets that there would be legal ramifications should they repeat the blog allegations.

"The Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law," he wrote.

It must be because so many people can relate to her just like they could picture themselves having a beer with Bush.
One idiot in eight years is enough for most of us but not for Palin fans.
Because, unlike her, they NEVER know when to quit.

In response to "username," who says "You can't name one thing Palin has done wrong except that she is wonderful and excites us all and you hate that..."

Oh, yes, I can! (1) She couldn't name one newspaper she reads, (2) she couldn't name one single Supreme Court case, (3) she thought Africa was a country, not a continent, (4) she thought being able to see Russia from Alaska gave her good foreign relations experience, and (5) I could go on and on, but you get the point.

Excite us all? No, not at all. She makes lots of us laugh. And she makes a lot of us feel sorry for her. I still laugh, then feel embarrassed for her, every time I think back to the debate with Vice President Biden and see her winking away like a demented tart and saying stupid things. There she was, trying to win a position a heartbeat away from the president, and she's unable to utter one sentence that makes sense! And she's winking! Did you really find that exciting?

I see where some wingnut believes the Lipstick never lied. She is like Silly Ann, Drugball and Hannity she just says something she knows is false and then lets the wingnuts take it from there. Take the hater states for instance like Oklahoma, Wv, SC, Tenn, Texas, they would never vote for a black person for any reason regardless of who was running against them. You can have their wife but don't try and take their coon dogs or guns. Don't mess with their food stamps either.

Looking at comments made by "sensitive" Libs about Gov. Palin's resignation, one wonders how spastic the cries of the Usefulls will be when Sarah starts campaigning for the GOP congressional candidates in 2010.They will be vomiting in the streets.Maureen D and Joan W will threaten suicide, And that will set the stage for Sarah to challenge the naked Emperor.May you live in interesting times.

Sadly Sarah is a fine and glaring reason of "Peter's Principle". She is, and never was, Presidential material. She should never have been chosen by John McCain as VP. Her cheerleaders are the "people who can be fooled all of the time". That says it all.

yes Sasha... Oil and Gas brought her in contact with the people who snagged Bush Jr., hosed him off and put up the money to make him prez (well... Cheney Prez). But check the Anchorage Daily News and you will see over the last month (June) the gay debate finally reached Alaska. The city was passing a "non-descrimination" charter into the City code, and the conservatives went ballistic. Weeks and weeks of top of the voice screaming and demonstrations... commercials on T.V. about transgendered in the bathrooms. I think that is what pushed Palin over the top (she had to remain silent), and gave her her Joan of Arc simplex.

You caannot attribute the votes the MCCAIN/Palin ticket got to votes for Palin. She was not at the top of the ticket and many people said they wouldn't vote for the ticket because of her, some may have voted for it because of her but she wasn't THE candidate. She was selected by McCain to run with him, he won the primaries to be the party's pick. You are totally disregarding John McCain and all of his years in public office if you say the votes were recieved by Palin.

Secondly, she has demonstrated once again that she is a quitter. As an adult, she quit 4 or 5 colleges before she finally got a degree. She was appointed by the previous governor to the oil and gas comission, which she quit. And now she is not going to run for re-election for the governors office but that isn't good enough- she has to quit too. It isn't so much fun anymore now that she has to really work and she no longer has such high approval ratings because people are starting to see she really is doing the same thing as those she accused of the good old boy network, different name. She only appointed her friends and supporters to positions whether they were qualified or not. She paid off supporters by giving them positions. She put people in positions they were wholly unqualified for (her state agricultural secretary liked cows when she was a girl). And now she is quitting the post that those 115,000 people elected her to. I personally think she is doing the people of Alaska a huge favor because she is such a joke in any elected position- even PTA, however a lot of the people that supported her are feeling like they got kicked in the teeth. I just hope she stays out of politics but I won't hold my breath. I know there are a bunch of fools out there who will support her if she trys to run for national office. For me, intellegence in a president is important, knowledge about the world and foriegn affairs and an ability to think outside the bible are of utmost importance, and that leaves her out.

Goodbye, good riddance, don't let the door hit ya on the way out! (And I won't be buying the book.)

One thing you are missing is the number of times she mentioned Oil and Gas and National Security.

A few weeks ago Palin was in Central Texas when she slammed Letterman.

Does anyone recall this? Anyone in the media ask why she was in Central Texas- a few weeks ago?

Central Texas?

Why is no one in the msm picking this up?

In her rambling appearance on Friday- did anyone pay attention to her speech?

Some of Palin’s rambling points:

*Gatekeeper of the Nation
*Oil and Gas
*God gave us energy
*Humbling responsibility- Alaska for National Security
*No more politics as usual
*Developed responsibly to develop their resources - oil and gas
*Petroleum development office
*Drilling for Oil and Gas
*58 to 1 victory protecting Alaskans to flow to the lower 48 - pro private sector project

A few weeks ago she made her decision to quit- In a few more weeks – she will be connecting to K Street in DC or in the proximity of K Street

National Security- oil and gas!

Central Texas!
Most governors are behind Obama’s Energy Plan- 34 or 36-She was not one of them.

The train is leaving the station- enter Lobbyist Palin.

Why is this story in the 44 Section--"The Obama Presidency?" It has nothing whatsoever to do with the current administration. Palin is a loser on numerous counts, although she is now claiming that having the guts to abandon her post as governor and huff away, rather than toughing out her term and doing her job shows what a "winner" she really is.

Anyway, this story belongs in with humor or "news of the weird," not in the political "44" section. Tweet...tweet...

Posted by: profco | July 6, 2009 9:40 AM | Report abuse

I must say that she can dish it out, but can't take it. She can complain all she wants, but if she got half the viciousness hurled at her that Obama did, she would have imploded earlier. I agree that Politics has turned nastier, but she and the repubs were just as bad. Look what the blogosphere did to John Kerry, he took it like a man, and didn't want to sue anyone. I guess in AK politics they are all cute and cuddly, and all get along, Not.Now that oil revenues have dropped, she is finding that the honeymoon is over, and has to actually perform. I am truly sad that she dropped out, cause I wanted her to really and truly have to debate someone, and not on her terms. Does she really believe she was treated any differently than any other candidate?

Palin and McCain may have gotten 48 million votes - but here's a news flash - they still lost.

So, if you choose to defend SP due so on her own merits and accomplishments as mayor and ex-gov of AK

Apparently there are some in "her" state that might well disagree with you.

Posted by: lightbulbmoment | July 6, 2009 6:47 AM | Report abuse

Why do people insist on comparing Palin to Obama? Here's a news flash he's #44 and she's not. He's in Russian meeting today to try to break deadlock in talks to replace nuclear arms control treaty. SP has resigned as Gov has now gone fishing and spends her free time fighting the msm.

Still looking for the common thread...

Posted by: lightbulbmoment | July 6, 2009 6:44 AM | Report abuse

Palin feels the need to jump on every story no matter how small & petty like some high school drama queen. No matter how trivial it is, she can blow it up and make it hotter than nuclear waste. Instead, she dismisses everything as “attacks” and wants to send in a lawyer…

No wonder she quit...Its going to become her full time job trolling the net for stories about her that she can attack.. She may just sit around in her slippers & PJ's blogging away!!!!

Posted by: fedupinfla | July 6, 2009 3:28 AM | Report abuse

Did someone just attribute the 48 million votes given to John McCain directly to Sarah Palin? With logic like that you could be Governor of Alaska apparently. Half of those voters would have voted Republican if John McCain had shot their first born child in the head.

Of the rest, it stands to figure that the majority didn't vote for the McCain ticket because of Palin and those that did are non-college graduates with a startingly vulnerability for phony patriotic symbols.

"Sarah Palin got 48 million votes." What a freakin joke.

Palin suffers from "Blues Brothers Complex".

She thinks she's on a mission from God. Therefore she is not beholden to the mundanities of her gubernatorial obligations.

Palin claims that she left office before finishing her first term because she desires to "serve a higher calling" (what ever that might be). Basically, this is Palin-spin for "my current job has become a ball-and-chain holding me back from pursuing my personal ambitions and my desires to attain greater wealth and political clout in the lower 48".

If her objective was a 2012 run for POTUS, she would have been better off finishing her term as governor and simply announcing that she would not re-run for office.

To quit after 2 1/2 years in her first term as governor suggests a person who cannot multitask, handle the pressures that come with the job (working with the legislature, dealing with the press, etc), and someone who is more interesting in being in the spotlight and waving to the crowds than she is in being a serious political force.

It was appropriate that Palin was surrounded by geese during her impromptu speech the other day, because she has essentially given everyone in Alaska "the bird".

To any making degogatory, hateful comments: Why aren't you governor of your state? I think its because you must be too stupid. There are three reasons we ALL should embrace Sarah Palin. 1.) she is not a member of Bilderberg Group, 2.) she is not a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, 3.) she is not a member of the Trilateral Commission. If you don't know what those are, you'd better find out...stupid.

Sarah Palin gave an entertaining speech at the Republican convention, entertaining for the red meat eaters of the "I've Got Mine; Screw Everyone Else" Party. The rest of us [over 60% of the voters]saw her for what she is, a poorly educated attack dog who fed the wolves with the fresh meat they needed. The speech was laden with lame talking points and ad hominum attacks on Democrats. It served no useful purpose but to rouse the rabble which populate the Republican Party. I shudder to think what would become of my country if this person had actually been elected. Now she resigns, claiming that she is being attacked by the "Liberal Media". Can you imagine the scenario if she had been elected and something happened to McCain? Would she have turned over the leadership to Nancy Pelosi? Sarah is a hypocrite who cannot stand the heat she generated. She should not worry, however, Fox Noise will come to her rescue.

My goodness, didn't you people learn from your mistake of burdening us for eight years with that Moron from Crawford?

To USERNAME, this woman does not have any accomplishments. During the campign she ran on the principle of never quiting. There is only one side Palin is a quiter and hypocrit. What funny is you want to be part of the party of quiters! You are already the party of "NO" and now you support a party of "QUITERS". What this shows is that she got into a game thats too far above her. How sad this country would have been had she been in office and decided I don't like the criticism so I'm just going to quit. Can this country afford someone like that. One thing I can say McShame is not a quiter. By palin quiting it will make it hard for other women who expires to be in politics because voters will now compare them to palin. The only woman they can look up to is Hilary and now I can appreciate the fight hilary had in her. If was a match between hilary and palin, palin would have quit a long time ago. Those 56 thousand followers that palin have is minute compared to the millions President Obama have. You repukes can praise palin until you turn blue but, you still will not get any new voter support. President Obama has cornered the hisppanic vote. Is was done for selecting Judge Sotomyar for supreme court. President Obama has turned all the moderate repukes so you are stuck will the RNC, rush, newt and chaney.

The overuse of incomplete sentences was indescribable. If you want to have some fun, copy and paste the unedited text into a blank MSWord document. Most frightening is the thought of an editor laying eyes on it before release.

Why is Sarah Palin being held to a higher standard than all others? I'll agree that she seems woefully uninformed on a number of issues. Like many of us, that which she seems to be advocating does not always mesh with what she does. Her verbal presentations are, at times, a bit confusing and difficult to comprehend. There are many others with far more influence whose track records deserve similar attention. The only thing that Governor Palin's presentations reveal is the need for an improvement in our national educational standards. Our political structure is intoxicated with undereducated, mouthpieces. Some combine a heavy dose of disingenuity as they seek to mislead those which they purport to represent. At least, Gov. Palin is young enough to effect some personal change.

Posted by: Draesop | July 5, 2009 10:38 PM | Report abuse

What liberals can't stand about her is they think she is stupid; they do not find her credible and more than anyone she reminds them of Bush. My guess is that those that like her and dislike do for the same reason, she is very Bush-like. Those that like her are to ignorant that they do not realize that Palin, though popular is holding a losing hand.

Palin is a smart enough politician to know that the governor's job is too much for her under these crisis conditions. She too narcissistic to relent on her dreams of the presidency. She plans to manipulate and twitter her way for a shot at the presidency, either as a Republican or in a third party.

She is the Huey Long of our generation. Long was a talented politician appealed to the rabble was totally amoral and a perpetual liar. She would idolize him if she was knowledgeable enough to know of him.

Sarah Palin, like most neo-con chicken hawks, is a true to life coward. When the going got tough, she bailed out. A gutless wonder with the mental agility of a small soap dish. The GOP's poster child.

Hitler 2.0's plan is this.

1) Cash in. Books. Faux News, etc.

2) If theo-conservatism looks like a winner, run as a republican theo-conservative, otherwise run as in independent.

3) If she wins, she cashes in.

4) If she loses, she cashes in.

The plan, cash in.

I used to joke that the GOP is made up of the rich and the ignorant. if she splits the party, only the rich will be left, and after the recession there ain't many of them left. Look for her to run as an independent. Funny, who could have predicted when she was asked to be VP that she would turn into the white Jesse Jackson?

Thank God she got very much rejected by the American People.

How will they be able to get their daily malevolent "Palin fix" when she no longer will be Governor of Alaska? Oh, they'll find a way. The liberals are already circulating rumors that there will be a "major revelation" in the offing about her. Wishful thinking? Sarah Palin rather reminds me of the protagonist of Shel Silverstein's classic story, "Ladies First":
http://members.tripod.com/tiny_dancer/ladiesfirst.html

Did you hear the one about the little girl who was a tender, sweet young thing?

Well, that's the way she thought of herself.

And this tender, sweet young thing spent a great deal of time just looking in the mirror and saying:

"I am a real little lady. Anybody could tell that.

I wear lovely starched cotton dresses with matching ribbons in my lovely curly locks.

I wear clean white socks and shiny black patent leather shoes, and I always put just a dab of perfume behind each ear."

When she was at the end of the lunch line at school, all she had to say was:

"Ladies first, ladies first."

And she'd get right up to the front of the line.

Well, her life went on like that for quite a while, and she wound up having a pretty good time.

You know, admiring herself in mirrors and always getting to be first in line and stuff like that.

And then one day she went exploring with a whole group of other people through the wilds of the deep and beastly jungle.

As she went along through the tangled trails and the prickly vines, she would say things like:

"I have *got* to be careful of my lovely dress and my nice white socks and my shiny, shiny shoes and my curly, curly locks, so would somebody *please* clear the way for me?"

And they did.

Or sometimes she'd say:

"What do you mean, there aren't enough mangoes to go around and I'll have to share my mango because I was the last one across that icky river full of crocodiles and snakes? No matter how last I am, it's still 'Ladies first, ladies first,' so hand over a whole mango, please."

And they did.

Well then, guess what happened?

Out of nowhere, the exploring party was seized, grabbed up by a bunch of hungry tigers!

And these tigers tied all the people up and dragged them back to their tiger lair, where they sniffed around, trying to decide what would make the best dinner.

"How about this one?" said the tiger chief.

"Nah, too boney," said the others.

"Well, what about this one? It's got a lot of meat on it!"

"Uh-uh. Meaty, but muscley."

"Oh, for heaven's sakes, don't take all night!" said the chief tiger. "I never saw such a pack of picky eaters. How about this one, then?"

"Looks tender... smells nice. In fact I never saw anything quite like it before. I wonder what it is?"

"I am a tender, sweet young thing."

"Oh, far out," said the tiger chief.

"I am also a little lady. You should know that by my lovely clothes and my lovely smell.

And if it's all the same to you, Tiger Tweetie, I wish you'd stop licking me.

And untie me this instant! My dress is getting mussed."

"Yes... uh..." the tiger said. "Well, as a matter of fact, we were all just... uh... trying to decide who to untie first."

"Ladies first! Ladies first!" she said. And so she was.

And mighty tasty, too.

The NYT published a graphic a few weeks after the Nov. election. It showed BlueRed counties in a different form. It registered BLUE those states where the DEM did better than Kerry (could have still lost but did better in votes). It registered RED those counties that increased GOP vote count (could have still lost by not as much).

As a DEM it is incredible to me that he counties from Nashville to Houston, and OKC North to Nebraska, were bright RED.

This is Palin country, the heart of the GOP. Where does the GOP go now in these counties? To Huckabee? They will never trust a Mormon so Mitt is toast. To Newt? They have nowhere to go, is my point.

This might be the end of the GOP as I once knew it (and voted for it)

If you believe truly in this country you have to understand that "You get what you vote for" . In the case of Palin, do her actions resemble those of one you might expect to be trustworthy. Do her actions achieve the expected results? Does she exhibit the restraint to deliver on her promises? She may demand responsibility in others but is her example one that fulfills her responsibilities and exhibits the determination and discipline to develop and follow through on good plans, decisions, and commitments?
In the final analysis we will get from our government (like with anything else) what we put into it. In business, ask yourself if you would hire as your Vice President of Sales, someone who thought marketing was ineffective and disliked sales. Would you expect a sound bookkeeping system from a person who hated office work, thought number crunchers were all liars?
We attract leaders of the quality we reward with our support. If we are not happy with the result we are expecting the wrong things; We are rewarding the wrong qualities; We are inviting failure and need to change our ways.

Caribou Barbie, the Queen of the Trailer Trash of Wasilla, Alaska has shown us her true colors. First, she is a quitter. Second, she lies like a rug. It is obvious that she wants to run for POTUS in 2012. All the crap about her doing this for her family is pure BS. And finally, if she can’t be the governor of an insignificant state and run for POTUS at the same time, how does she think she was the brain power to be POTUS? Yah, I know, we recently had one idiot, GWB, as POTUS but look at the mess he left behind. We don't need another idiot in the White House. I pray every night that she runs and wins the GOP nomination. I’m thinking she might get something less than 30% of the popular vote. Run, Sarah, run!

Palin is a joke and a quitter. However I seriously doubt there's any investigations under way. The prosecutors office for that district is in shambles after the Stevens debacle. She's both the lightening and the lightening rod. If she would just STFU for say 18 to 24 months and re-emerge, as a "well-versed in all the issues" candidate it would do her a world of good.

Like many people I have been hoping that she would just go away as I could not in any way identify with her stated values or her proud anti-intellectual stance. I was incredulous that she was actually named by many as a potential future GOP front runner or even a possible future president. While I may have my wish that she would exit the national stage with her resignation, I am quite sure that we will have her in our consciousness for many years to come. So be it. I feel that if she would be able to become a candidate for President of the United States her defeat would be easier than other more conventional candidates.

This woman is a female version of GWB. Go back to the political commentary 1999-2000 and read what was said about him then.
She uses Twitter to "catapult the propaganda" of the MSM.

Don't count her out. So what if she becomes a Fox News commentator. Wasn't Pat Buchanan a CNN commentator when he ran in the primaries (and scared the GOP establishment more than once?)

Yes, she has made Karl Rove's job a little more difficult but Rove got Bush elected twice and he has somethin to prove to the GOP establishment who blame him for the 06/08 loses by the party.

I say watch what 2 people do; first, McCain. If he is four-square behind her, then she really has a chance at the nomination.

Second: If the above scenario develops, watch Jeb Bush to act as a spoiler.

After this occurs, the seventh veil will be pierced, thus unleashing unholy legal ramifications the world has never seen. Here. let me do the work for the Washington Post "journalists" -- who al seem to be occupied with style section articles:

Sarah, all you need to do is release the receipts for the building materials for the House That Todd Built.

Also, too, the names of the "contractor buddies" who helped Todd build the house. How many plumbers are there in Wasilla? Electricians, roofers, painters, carpenters, cement mixers. Just have them come forward and explain that their in-kind contributions to your lakeside $500,000 home were made out of the goodness of their hearts, and not in the expectation of any type of quid pro quo in terms of future contracts. It's so simple.

Look for an IRS investigation of Buttercup in the near future. THAT is why she resigned Friday afternoon on the July 4th weekend and wouldn't allow any questions.

She is right about the limitations of government office. I know she could not say the things I say and they are powerful to overcome the world of destruction, oppression, stress and bondage we have created by ignoring God's wisdom.

God's plan for us is not employment; He delivered the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt. The goal is a garden paradise lifestyle where we choose trees, plants and pets that provide fresh food around us. That ends the need for war, immigration, energy crisis, global warming fears, reoccurring financial crises, disease and high health care costs as well as social security plans and expenses.

It is the government that creates the need for employment.... for taxes to pay their salaries and jobs they created because we were busy with our jobs and couldn't or wouldn't clean our own streets or fix our own houses. Most new inventions are to solve some problem we created. I can say that; but a governor couldn't, especially with a president that wants more jobs, more insurance payment, more technology. We are going the wrong way. I will say it for all those who cannot.

Be careful....This is potentially a brilliant RNC strategy. There is no bet here. Sarah Palin has no time to be Governor. The Republican party needs no presidential nominee now. Palin's resignation is not primarily a Palin career move. What will happen in 2012 is minimally important to the design of Palin's role today. This is a Party move. The Republican party needs a whip outside the beltway with populist sentiment and a clean closet. Barring any nasty revelations connected with the new Alaskan pipeline project or development with fiscal shenanigans, Palin foots the bill. With coaching and a seasoned staff, Palin will ably serve as the RNC's chief critic of the Obama Administration. She is attractive to the talking head circuit. She has shown she can focus the attention of party loyalists. She can likely become a major party fundraiser. She can help steer the party to its lost Reagan direction. Can any other current Republican leader even pretend to be a family values candidate? Get ready Sarah Palin. Middle America has not written you off. Middle America can connect with Palin if she can give it the opportunity with a positive performance. It's time for boot camp. You'll need to add Fortune 500 quality management experience, national policy, and foreign relations expertise to your resume quickly while touring the talking head, fundraising, and speaker circuit. Insiders know the economic slump, a hard to swallow poison pill, will continue through Obama's term. Palin will pin the tale on that donkey. Palin as the new figurehead gives the RNS a beacon that can't lose. Forget 2012, for now. A potential role for Palin in 2012, may or may not develop. It is premature and unecessary to conclude that she can help the party in 2012 as a candidate. However, Palin could prove to be a wise choice to replace the stale hypocritical megaphones that have been the face of the Republican party for the last decade on the talking head circuit and in the beltway.

What I found most interesting in the whole issue is that she uses "TWITTER" to reach the masses. This is the ploy used by the Democrates (phones, emails ect.)...it's the new "integrated media" where the feeders come from one source and that's the problem and it's activity can be traced to see how popular an idea is, a person is. In other words it's the finger on the pulse of the masses. That's what's being tested not so much Palin's resignation. She quit her job before it was done that will be remembered...she "CUT AND RAN" as former President Bush would like to say over and over again.

PALIN saying she didn't want to be a "lame duck" is just another show of ignorance on her part.

Governor PALIN, you are not a "lame duck" (in the political sense) unless you have term'd out. And no one would know you weren't planning to run for a second term unless YOU TOLD THEM -- but even then, you are not a "lame duck" because you can change your mind!

PALIN claims to be the only elected official the media -- the big, bad media that only picks on PALIN -- has criticized for QUITTING public office in the middle of an elected term.

Who else has QUIT public office early -- just flat-out abandoned those who elected them? It's two days later, and I still cannot think of one other elected official who just QUIT mid-term.

Surely she's not putting herself in the company of elected officials who resigned in the midst of scandal or criminality?

PALIN brings wildly different meaning to the expression: "When the going gets tough, the tough get going."

Wasn't she one of the governatures -- a.k.a., a cartoon characature of a governor -- who claimed she wouldn't take a bail-out?

She definitely ranks # 1 on the list of people you wouldn't want to share a fox-hole with...

One diagnosis explains this and everything else about PALIN: narcissistic personality disorder.

Ruth Marcus nails it:

But Palin didn't just quit. She quit -- and proceeded to praise herself for doing so. This took a quintessentially Palinesque form, combining an unjustified air of selflessness with an unjustified sense of self-pity.

So true, so true. The trailer trash dimwit from Alaska exposed herself for what she really is on Friday: a quitter, a hypocrite, and an intellectually defective delusional moron.

WWS:
liberalism is like drugs. it promises so much, claims not to hurt anyone, makes you feel all good inside, but in the end, sets you back further than where you started, ruins ambition and drive, etc.

liberalism (btw, not sure what obama brings is liberalism...more severe than simple feel good liberalism...) consistently fails, but it feels so good that people will rationalize to make it seem right.

Palin represents the popular kid in hs. she doesnt need the drug of populism and is a threat to those who do. that is why they are so threatened by her...heck, if she was as big a buffoon as Maureen Dowd thinks, why waste the ink on her...why not go the other direction and give her a microphone ? the lefties are threatened.

It is extremely disturbing to think that Sarah Palin might have been elected vice-president; she obviously far over-reached her ability, has little integrity (to ditch her RESPONSIBILITIES to the Alaskans that voted for her); and further, is a poor role model as a mother or a politician. Where does John McCain weigh-in on her recent resignation? This reflects poorly on him AND the Republican Party; the Dems SHOULD be having a field day because it so blatantly points to a party that is out of touch, poor in judgment and poorly managed.

No. It's because she abandons her responsibilities, and is the furtherest thing from serious that a person can be. And, that is the least desirable quality one can have as a candidate for President of the United States. That is why PEOPLE are scared of her.

As has become routine with our pop-culture (national) character trait, Gov. Palin has become infeced with the celebrity virus. You know like with Britany Spears, Michael Phelps, and hundreds of others. Let's not forget who facilitated this in the first place, Senator John McCain.

What this woman needs is good counseling, for her own safe and even more importantly for her children's sake, because obviously her husband can't be relied upon. This is especially urgent since several neo-cons(perhaps, neo-con-artists) are all over the media praising her incoherent announcement and busy praising her. Warning: Remember the last eight years!

While Gov. Palin as the right to do what she pleases, she needs to remember that her choices affect others, as with anyone else.

I've answered this a hundred times on these boards but I'll gladly do so again.

I am not afraid of Mrs. Palin. I am afraid of you. You will vote for a woman who is not very smart. A woman who is manipulative. A woman who has no intellectual couriosity. A woman with little experience. A woman who was not particularly successful in the experience she has. A frivolous woman. A woman who lacks serious intellect. A woman who got ahead by cutting her friends off at the knees. A woman who is unethical. A woman who uses her gender to play the victim. A woman without one good or new idea for America. A woman who can apparently fool a segment of American voters.

I am afraid of you because I love my country.

I continually see her ardent "6" supporters ask why the "liberals" are so afraid of her, why do they continue to attack her?

Well, two things. For the people in the cheap seats who haven't been paying attention, easily 50% of the "critiques" that have been laid at her feet the past 8 months, have been by REPUBLICANS, not Democrats. We can't help you guys eating your own via circular firing squad.

Second, "we", nor anyone is afraid of Sarah Palin. We are endlessly amused by her in a deject way, sort of like an episode of Jerry Springer. We laugh at her antics and ridiculous mindlessness and are praying, really really praying that Republicans keep her in the limelight and are really crossing our fingers that the Republicans are actually daft enough to nominate her in 3 years. Palin is to the national political arena, what Marion Barry is to DC.

What is really disturbing is reading all the comments on the various blogs from people actually defending Sarah Palin while insulting our President.

I also find it disturbing that some leaders and talking heads in the Republican party can not be honest enough to admit that this woman was a big mistake for their party. It scares me to think that there are still those in the Republican party that think this person can do anything for their party let alone our country. If they truly believe that then Republicans are in worse shape than anyone can believe.

I also wonder how Republicans can condemn the media for their coverage of Sarah Palin but not say a word about the things Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and the like say day in and day out about President and Mrs. Obama? Double standards, hypocrisy....

One lesson America has hopefully taught the Republican Party is that America won't elect a dummy. At least not one so obviously a dummy. Tina Fey's impesonations of Palin actually made Palin look and sound better than the real thing - and Fey was "trying" to rip Palin.

Quayle should have been a warning to the Republicans. Palin's "strip mall college" education underscores her inability to express her thoughts and ideas coherently. Would that we know what she really thinks as opposed to what she emitted in her scripted campaign appearances and now in her web posts and Tweets.

It leaves one to wonder if she actually has the intellectual capacity to grasp the complexities of governing on the national and international stage.

Twitter, with its 140-character idea length limit may be the perfect medium for her - "bcuz, ya know, itz hard 2 tell abowt enything wen u cant spel, ya know?"

There is a wonderful movie to made about this, a variation on the movie Fail-Safe. President Palin after a successful career repealing the New Deal must now deal with a nuclear confrontation, say with Iran. After summoning her security advisers, the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Adviser, joint Chiefs of Staff, all of whom are born again Christians and hockey fans, is told that is told that only choice is between a pre-emptive nuclear strike and a retaliatory nuclear strike after the world agrees that it is justified. President Palin withdraws alone to the Oval Office to ponder the way out. The solution comes to her like a vision from heaven. She resigns the presidency and takes Air Force One to remote Alaska.

So...does this mean that if she'd been VP she could have quit if things got too tough for her? Taken that one step further, had McCain died in office leaving her president, would she have quit had she taken as much heat as Obama does on a daily basis? Thank god she didn't make it that far. She only abandoned Alaska not the entire US.

It is amazing that Sarah Palin now feels that she can threated the free press of America with legal action if they continue to investigate the real reasons behind her sudden resignation as governor of Alaska. Has she never heard of freedom of the press and freedom of speech? Does she really believe they don't apply to her? Once again she has proven that she has no respect for the basic freedoms and liberties which all Americans enjoy. We shudder to think what she might do if elected to some higher office. Look at the damage Nixon did to the country. He was also petty and vindictive and seeing enemies behind every corner and he used the power of government to threaten and suppress those he considered an enemy.

That's a more appropraite comparison. But at least Nixon had experience and more of an intellect that Sarah Palin.

She created the drama that led to the speculation. The entire incident is bizarre.

Why the hasty press "conference"? What was the urgency? Some of the press didn't even have time to get to her house. Why couldn't it wait until Monday? She even did it while her spokeswoman is on vacation.

Then she was incoherent. As usual, it is difficult for English speakers to follow her ramblings and flits from one thought to another.

She never gave a clear concise rationale for the urgency or the reason for the resignation.

When something doesn't make sense people try to make it make sense.

She created the drama that led to the speculation. She thrives on it.

Based on some recent comments, it is very obvious that people have missed the weeks during the campaign that Palin was not even accessible to the press. Obama has been available and straightforward. The garbage about Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and ACORN was blown all out of proportion by the character assassination squad on the rightwing.

"I can see Russia from here" Palin has decided that it may be time to go underground. Explain as she may, she cannot explain away the fact that she is a quitter. Her statement a few days ago was the biggest piece of self-serving rubbish that I have ever heard a politican give.

There is still more to this story than has been revealed. I am sure that if some Republican operatives decided to spend the money to dig up something, they would have it in no time. There always seems to be no shortage of Republican money when it comes to digging up slime.

Posted by: EarlC | July 5, 2009 2:55 PM | Report abuse

Is she saying she cannot overcome the temptation to go on a spending spree as a lame duck? Wouldn't it be better to show how it is done and serve the time without the junkets she mentioned? She makes an either-or argument that leaves out the proper behavior. If she is saying that if she stayed in, she would not be able to help herself from spending on herself and her opponents connect that to her spending on clothes during the campaign, people like Romney and Hucklebee will beat her to death pointing out that they fulfilled their term as governor with no such abuse and then quit when it was up to run.

The whole thing makes no sense unless here is more to the story -- not unlike the SC situation.
