Obama to Lunch with Senate Democrats. All of Them.

By Michael A. Fletcher and Perry Bacon
President Obama will host the entire Senate Democratic caucus for lunch at the White House on Tuesday, in an effort to review the achievements of his first six months in office and build momentum for major initiatives whose fates are now in the hands of Congress.

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the president invited the caucus to discuss "what has been accomplished in the first six-and-a-half months of the administration, and to talk about our priorities," including the slowly recovering economy and proposals to revamp the health care system and encourage the use of renewable energy.

There may even be cake for dessert, seeing as Tuesday is the president's 48th birthday.

"Chuck E. Cheese was booked," Gibbs joked during the White House press briefing on Monday. But those fearing that the health-care debate will overshadow Obama's chance at celebration should not worry. The president got an early start on the festivities over the weekend at Camp David.

The meeting comes as Senate Democrats are growing increasingly weary of bipartisan health care reform negotiations being run by Senate Finance Committee Chair Max Baucus (D-Mont.). Sen. Charles Schumer on Monday said if the three Republicans and three Democrats on that committee who are negotiating can't reach an agreement by mid-September, Democrats are likely to end their attempts at getting broad GOP support for a bill.

And some Democrats have grumbled the president is not doing enough to back a government-run health insurance program, which some liberals view as an important step in any reform effort. Obama has said he backs such a public plan, but has not defined exactly what it should look like.

Obama administration officials are also likely to press the Senate to approve additional money for the "Cash for Clunkers" program. The House approved $2 billion to extend the program last week, but the Senate has not yet said what it will do, despite the program's popularity with auto dealers and some car buyers.

"The president will use it as an opportunity, as I am about to, to talk about the benefits of what that program has done," Gibbs said, adding: "It's good for dealers and auto manufacturers. You've seen Ford talk about their sales being up as a result of this program. It's good for our energy security and our environment."

its amazing that whenever the president's views are disagreed with as socialist then people resort to calls of racism?

When we disagreed with Clinton were we called on the carpet for being against people that cheated on their spouses???

Nice double standard. and just because we're anti Obama doesn't mean we weren't anti Bush.

He promised change and he hasn't delivered and shows no intention to deliver. The only thing he's changing is that he's handing the world out to the unions who have destroyed this country. We'll deliver his cronies out in 2010 and him in 2012.

Those Dems had better check their ideas, their credibility, their accountability, and their self respect before they enter the room!

I hope the President takes it as an opportunity to explan to the Blue Dogs (Ben Nelson in particular), that introducing competition in the oligopolistic health insurance industry will drive prices down and force health insurance cies to offer more and better products. That's Economics 101, a course that Ben Nelson and his DINO and Republican colleagues obviously failed in college.

Competition is what America is all about.

The DINOS are peeing in their pants at the thought of losing political "contributions" (in other countries, those are called BRIBES) from the health insurance industry.

I realize this is futile and perhaps sane citizens do not read these comments, however,I did and have to respond to the incredibly insane comments here. I am not surprised that the loudest voices in the country are those of individuals who allow the hate and fear mongers to influence them. Using a banner of Christian morality, they attempt to allienate those who are different and those who try to intelligently make sense of their environment. I am saddened that there are so many hateful and vicious citizens in our country. I wish we could encourage the media to be positive, inspiring and thoughtful in a real impactful campaign. Our country needs inspiration - not fear and hate mongering. Our citizens need to be encouraged to "sacrifice" in this time of economic and social strife. Join me in not listening to the cries of hate and fear. Read and analyze more thoughtfully the legislative efforts of this Congress.
Please stop the racial ugliness and "have a beer" for all Americans!

Most America's are intelligent and have common sense, but most of those posting here today show that the ignorant, uneducated and downright dumb still exist!

All they do is lie. It would look like we could get each and everyone of this White House trash for lying. I don't believe a word any of they say. If Bush had been in office he would have already been impeached. Impeach them all. That Robert Gibbs is the nearest nothing of a Speaker of the House. He's telling another lie about the Seniors will be treated. Please American Seniors wake up and help me fight for what we deserve. We will get nothing.

I am most of all of the people I know are outraged because Obama keeps cramming this Universal Healthcare crap down our throat. Can't they see we are the taxpayers and we are the boss not them, and we should be able to choose what Healthcare system we should have. Why is the Republicans not in on this little Democratic Birthday party for Obama today. This angers me that Obama professes to be BiPartisan, but after he got into office that all stopped. He will get his Jack Ass thrown out of the White House for all the Stimulus crap he has created and then now this nothing Universal Healthcare. We as Senior Americans are going to fight for everything in us to see that this Universal Healthcare isn't passed. We as Seniors will be on our deathbed before our time due to no treatment when and if this Universal Healthcare goes through. We have to stop these maniacs. They are as crazy as any people I have ever seen.

It is not Obama who is the alien and foreigner, it is "one by the sea", 'Markm2" and "TexRancher" a bunch of tea bagging idiots who need to secede from the union, pay for your own defense without a dime of American money, and survive all that hits you. I will give you all of Texas to do this in except for Austin. Live out your wingnut philosophies on your own and without any help. Good luck and I hope your new President, Rick Perry, can protect you from Hurricanes without begging for money from the US.

Always a few nut cases rattling around in the box here at the Post. By comparison MarkMarkII is moderate even though he claims:

"Obama sees himself as Jesus"

Nice to know that he has personal information as to exactly how someone else's sees himself. Such a priveledge is withheld from us lesser mortals.

This is a minor example of the meglomania and delusions of omniscience found here, when compared with WRH and others who are on the "birth-again" trip. Appartently it's not enough for them to dim-wittedly repeat their absurdities about Obama's certificate, now he has started yammering about Obama as an "illegal alien". Nice to know that some nut cases are completely immune to such matters as facts and reality. History and geography were long obscure subjects to such people.

Who'd have thought that so many republican voters would be radical subjectivists, believing that reality can be bent to their will? And I thought the Republican party contained Christian supporters. You'd think one or two would come out against such supersticious ravings.

Obama is in perpetual campaign mode. He has an insatiable desire for applause, and when he cannot pollute the airways with do-nothing press conferences or "town hall meetings" (in front of carefully screened and selected audiences) he becomes frustrated. Obama sees himself as "Jesus on the mount" perpetually "making perfectly clear" his childlike positions on the issues.
Obama's icons (Fidel and Hugo) are notorious for their long winded speeches. National socialists love to hear themselves talk.
I wonder why Obama does not give us the true benefit of his superior intellect and explain how he expects to avoid a tax increase (direct or indirect) on the working class while driving up fuel costs, quadrupling the national deficit, and sovietizing health care. All Obama seems to do is "set the bar" with his immature speeches and then leave the hard work to Congress (to figure out how to do it). If the little egomaniac does not get his way, of course, he blames the 40 Republicans in the Senate for out-voting 60 Dems (that is Democrat math) or has his lap dogs on MSNBC criticize people for thinking .
The only good news after 6 months of this little nazi is that there are no more than 3 1/2 years left.

There is a website I encourage everyone to go to regarding healthcare.

These Doctor's are for the people, a public option, single payer insurance and will be traveling around the US to get their message across. It is time to get rid of the Fascist-Neo-cons and Pseudo Dems known as the blue dog dems. WE THE PEOPLE NEED CHANGE NOW!!!!! No more monkeying around. It is time for the people to make the decisions about their healthcare instead of our Fascist congress.

President Obama, AG Holder, SecHomeland Napolitano, SecDef Gates, DNI Blair must dismantle the nationwide, federal-local GPS-activated extrajudicial targeting and punishment matrix and remove from power the secretive executive branch officials who continue to oversee it.

Eight Great birthday gifts for President Obama! 1)Case of Bud Light, 2) new jeans

Obama has always known what his puppet role was going to be. His ideals are shameful and his in the face lies insult any intellegent US citizen. He will burden us with the costs of his failed programs, each and everyone of us. All of us will pay more and get less in his future. Let's just hope his lies are realized by his blind followers before next election. Obama, Pelosi and Biden: the three stooges.

This team is extraordinary in its promise of renewed life and greatness for America, and ALL who live here, and for the world we so mightily influence. Are you doing your part to make the promise reality? I am, with every waking moment. We will not get another opportunity. It is now, or never.
