Obama Looks for Pre-Recess Win on Health Care

By Ben Pershing
Will President Obama get an important symbolic victory before the Senate leaves town?

The Washington Post reports, "Senate negotiators are inching toward bipartisan agreement on a health-care plan that seeks middle ground on some of the thorniest issues facing Congress." That raises the prospect that key senators will at least reach a handshake deal on a measure before recess, and the House has already moved its own bill through three committees. Each chamber's bill has some of what Obama wants; neither measure has both. The Senate version would, its supporters say, help "bend the curve" of future health-care spending. But it does not establish a public insurance option to compete with private providers. The House bill doesn't do the former but does the latter (though not as assertively as liberals would like). Add all that up, and Obama may be able to spend August at least arguing that the tide is finally turning in the right direction.

Even some of the poll numbers are looking a bit better for Obama; a new Ipsos-McClatchy survey found 46 percent of Americans believe the country is on the right track, up 6 points in the last three weeks. But his performance on health care still gets mixed reviews. The latest Quinnipiac survey showed 52 percent disapproval for Obama's handling of the subject, and the poll also found that a majority of Americans "are more worried that Congress will spend too much money and add to the deficit than it will not act to overhaul the health care system."

Obamacare is frightening not only because it will further destroy the economy, but also because it seems to be influenced by Obama’s "Science Czar," John Holdren, who has called for population-control policies that we associate with Hitler, Stalin or Mao -- such as forced abortions, mass sterilizations, and mandatory population controls.

I guess the MANDATORY end-of-life (death) counseling when we turn 65 (pages 425-430) is part of that population control! The money Obama will further steal from our children and grandchildren will be used not on health care but on ACORN-type “counselors” to coerce us to die when we turn 65!

Learn about Holdren:

Additionally, Obama seems ready to further increase our deficit and steal from our children and grandchildren to fund Obamacare, but he can't multiply the number of doctors and hospitals from one day to another. Someone will be asked to sacrifice. And it seems the "chosen ones"will be the not yet born and seniors.

The number of doctors will remain the same for quite a while. That's why seniors are rightfully concerned. They have worked and paid taxes all their lives and now they are going to be "counseled" to end their lives when they turn 65, particularly if they get sick, so those without insurance (illegals?) may get treatment.

I spite of the lies and Orwellian doublespeak of Obama and his accomplices, thinking people can read the bill and understand that if Obamacare is imposed on us, we will be forced to pay not only for abortions, but also for late-term abortions (infanticide) and euthanasia.

The House bill compels seniors to submit to a counseling session every five years (and more often if they become sick or go into a nursing home) about alternatives for end-of-life care (House bill, p. 425-430).

Read the bill:

EVERYTHING Obama has done so far has harmed us. He has multiplied our deficit, increased unemployment, increased poverty, and decreased our wellbeing and safety. He sides and defends terrorists and U.S. enemies (Hamas, Castro, Chavez, Zelaya) and harms us and our friends (Israelis, Hondurans).

I guess it was to be expected from Obama. As his parents, relatives, friends and mentors, Obama is a Marxist who hates the U.S. As such, he 's destroying the economy and he's enslaving is through power grabs like Obamacare and Cap and Trade.

Socialized health care is just another step to impose socialism/Marxism on us, and the corruption, poverty, enslavement, destruction and despair that Marxism entails.

Obama is working much faster than Hugo Chavez at destroying the economy and imposing socialism/Marxism. The Russians are gloating. From Pravda: “…the American descent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple…”

We pray there NO agreement. Obama and his accomplices have already made it clear that they will lie and manipulate us to get "something" approved and then they will change it to what they want -- a government-controlled health care system that will enslave us.

We all would like to IMPROVE our health care system making it cheaper, more effective and available to more people.

Obama's bill, however, has NOTHING to do with improving our health care system. It's just another power grab that will further destroy our health care, our economy and our future, and impose socialism of the XXI century through lies, manipulation, intimidation and coercion.

Imitating Hugo Chavez, Obama wants to nationalize everything, including our health care system! "Hey, Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama!" Chavez cheered on Venezuelan TV. He added that he and Cuba's Fidel Castro would now have to work harder just to keep up.

WEll its now post Recess.
But from the mob scenes at Town meetings, the President and his team-- Mr. Emmanuel, in particular certainly have work to do. Given what I have seen from detractors.. for them this is more than a tempest in a teapot. My question: When will the Democrats start crowding to the War Room? They need a new strategy to win this one.

EVIL MEDIA...Tossing out another Tool of TV is off to the Trash and my Computer is Next. Maybe if everybody just got busy taking care of their own business, this world wouldn't be so INSANE and TWISTED.....
Another email that has been forwarded to dozens of people...all about bashing the President, Health Reform, etc. so on....and on and on. No reason to copy and post to my blog, rarely much to gain from so much negativity.

My response to my brother's forwarded email from others;

Rep. John Fleming of Louisiana has proposed HR 615 urging Legislators
to forego the existing Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP)
and enroll in the "Public Health Option"

You may sign the petition at his website§iontree=29,55

I urge you further to make a note to him on his main website that if the Health Reform DOES pass with a Public Health Option,
that the FEHBP be ABOLISHED.

Let me try to ask this as simply as possible: do you believe that right now, today, as of this minute, there are 47 million people walking around without health insurance?

If you do, you don't understand math and how they are getting to that number. I can never figure out why it's so hard to get a liberal to understand simple math!

As the old saying goes, you can lead a liberal to the chalkboard, but you can't make him stop looking at it cross-eyed.

"Case closed" is an expression of self congratulation used the narrow minded when they have over simplified a complex issue with a simple set of facts and drawn a therefore unwarranted conclusion.

For those who read the post of Dashark1 would that be an accurate summary of his post. Or is this the first time that expression has been used in a nuanced discussion of a subject?

That's why you and your corporate shills are going to lose....this nation will have a government option.

Case closed!
Obama has to step down now,
He is a Kenyan born USURPER who holds Indonesian citizenship and is helped by The Nazi-Commie Congress and the treasonous US Media..

"dbw1: The Center for Budget and Policy Priorities posts the number of uninsured Americans. See for yourself and get your facts straight."

Thanks for your concern, but I have my facts straight. Quite straight, in fact.

The "Center for Budget and Policy Priorities" is little more than a number-spinner with a left-wing bias. It is run by a former Carter/Clinton staffer. So using their numbers as if they are non-debatable is pretty narrow-minded and foolish...

Please google "are there 47 million uninsured?", and tell me what you find. I won't bother to post all the links here. But I'll break down a summary:
- the 47 million includes 10 million illegal immigrants.
- the 47 million includes 17 million working Americans who make more than $50k/year...i.e., the absence of a government program is not why they can't afford it. (even Hillary Clinton allowed during her campaign that at least 25% [or 12 million] of the "47 million" could afford their own insurance)
- the 47 million includes millions who were without insurance for less than 4 months (i.e., job myself for 2 months in 2005)
- the 47 million includes a significant number of young adults (20-30 year olds) who go without insurance for a number of reasons. Affordability could be one reason, but some choose to go without it for a short time and save their money if they feel they are healthy and are comfortable paying out of pocket for any doctor visits. Not the smartest choice in case of catastrophe, but America is the land of freedom...or at least it was until Democrats started deciding they want to run other peoples lives.

So you see, the "47 million" is quickly reduced to no more than 20 million after subtracting illegals and those who can afford their own. Further, if you account for all the other factors that inflate the "CBPP" number, the real number of perpetually uninsured is probably more like 8-10 million. Heck, even the Democrat-run Congressional Budget office admitted the real number of those who don't have insurance is more like 21 million.

All I'm asking is that if you are going to tell me to "get your facts straight", you should probably make sure you know the facts yourself.

dbw1: The Center for Budget and Policy Priorities posts the number of uninsured Americans.

See for yourself and get your facts straight.

Posted by: toritto | August 6, 2009 11:58 AM

dbw1: Not necessarily true.

I had a pre-existing condition and BCBS refused me insurance.

In the state I live however the LAW requires that the company sell me a policy if I had no break in coverage. I did not have a break as I was coming off COBRA.

BCBS sold me a policy - at $1,120 per month - just for me.

If I had a break in coverage (and millions are in that situation) the company would not have sold me a policy. Only state law required them to do so.

....I am also enough of a realist to know that millions cannot afford $1,120 per month. The price was meant to deter me from taking the policy.

"The prospective deal out of the Finance Committee could be huge for the president. It gives him and Dems in Congress a concrete proposal to talk about, and one that takes out the most scary proposals being lied abut by the GOP and their protest goons."

Actually, it's going to get worse for the President before it gets better. An article yesterday (AP, not a right-wing blog) confirmed that the plan currently agreed to will cover abortions.

This isn't to argue pro-life or pro-choice. I'm just saying that there were a lot of Catholics and Protestants who crossed over to vote for Obama who are going to turn against him really fast if they include abortion coverage in any public option.

"If you are uninsured you cannot get insurance if you have a “previously existing condition”."

Another false statement. You can still get insurance, it will just cost more. You know, kind of like if you go to buy auto insurance. If you've had 3 accidents and 4 moving violations in the past 6 months, you will probably pay more than someone with a clean driving record.

Why do liberals believe all people should pay the exact same for health insurance, regardless of their state of health? It's nonsensical...

"There ar 47+million people uninsured."

You know this is a falsely inflated number. Why do you keep posting it?

Every time you post it, I will remind you that using the same math there are 45-50 million unemployed that Obama's "3 million jobs" promise will barely dent.

Single-payer honks have never been good at doing math, though, so I know I'm fighting an uphill battle with you since logic and facts find no home in your posts.

The current status of healthcare in America:

There ar 47+million people uninsured. Today it is virtually impossible to have a primary care physician without having health insurance. Paying for your treatment by cash or credit card usually isn’t good enough to become a patient of the practice. The uninsured usually wind up in emergency rooms or “emergency clinics” which can treat your cough or flu symptoms for Visa or Mastercard. We all pay for those hospital emergency room visits.

If you are uninsured you cannot get insurance if you have a “previously existing condition”. Everyone over 50 falls into these categories. Who hasn’t had something? Ideally, insurance companies want only younger, healthy customers. Millions of people and their families between 50 and 64 are in danger or all ready have lost their jobs.

If you lose your job you wind up on COBRA which is usually good for 18 months. It is expensive (compared to what you were paying when you were employed) - of course being out of work doesn’t help pay the premium. After COBRA you can usually buy a policy if you have no break in coverage. It happened to me - cost $1,120 per month - just for me. Luckily I needed it for only 7 months.

Millions are “under insured” and not by choice - having say a 50% co-pay for hospital stays. Have your appendix out and you will receive a bills for tens of thousands of dollars. Health care costs a responsible for 40% + of all personal bankruptcies.

Hospitals routinely overcharge for services - they settle for a relatively small percentage of the total from insurance companies and Medicare but not from individuals.

Millions over 65 would be uninsured without Medicare - that “socialist” program that “interferes” between doctors and patients, rations medical care, decides who gets what treatment etc. All seniors know its bunk - Medicare, the single payer system works just fine. No profit making insurance company in the world would cover us. The arguments today against the pubic option are the same arguments heard in the 1960s aainst Medicare.

Capitalism 101 dictates that a profit making health insurance company will try to increase revenue each year by raising premiums, reduce expenses by increasing deductibles, renegotiate regularly with hosptials and doctors to reduce the amounts paid for services, cull their insurance customers by dropping sick and old people, not insure sick and old people individually to begin with etc. Note the tens of millions of dollars of compensation paid to health insurance company CEOs.

That’s the current situation........without a public option insurance reform is just more B. S.

....and actually I like a single payer system best......

CORRECTION to post, below:

The word is "elicit."

A close reading of the constitutional affronts enumerated at the following ACLU freedom blog link discusses how government surveillance operatives, apparently acting as censors, appear to sabotage posts to political blogs via real-time remote computing "spoofing" software. Don't believe it? Scroll to the bottom of the "comments" and read from bottom to top before you decide:

Please click on the following link to the American Civil Liberties Union "freedom blog," scroll to the bottom for the latest postings, and decide for yourself who is apparently censoring political speech on the internet. (HINT: It's almost certainly not WaPo itself).

The question for Team Obama, AG Holder, SecHomeland Napolitano, SecDef Gates:

Are you allowing this apparent draconian prior restraint/censorship? Or is there gross insubordination in the ranks?

Either way, the Constitutional rights of American citizens are being violated, and the telecommunications system is being used to harass and censor.

The prospective deal out of the Finance Committee could be huge for the president. It gives him and Dems in Congress a concrete proposal to talk about, and one that takes out the most scary proposals being lied abut by the GOP and their protest goons.
