Dan Balz's Take

For Obamas, a Date Night in Tiny Oak Bluffs

By Michael D. Shear
OAK BLUFFS, Mass. -- After two days behind the presidential veil, President Obama finally gave folks on Martha's Vineyard what they had been waiting for: a glimpse of him and his wife.

The Obamas ventured out into Oak Bluffs' little downtown for an evening out at The Sweet Life, a fancy little restaurant.

Rumors flew before he arrived, and a crowd formed quickly, with cameras flashing at every black SUV that ambled down the street.

The Obamas finally arrived in time for 7:30 p.m. reservations at the restaurant. Earlier, he had spent about 90 minutes at the home of his friend and adviser, Valerie Jarrett.

PS. And who the hell wants to work at some poor white or black trash establishment. What would that prove about anybody except they need to go out and get an education and a better job. The logic is just angry and twisted and it displays the man behind the comments.

For all of you bitter, complaining cynics out there - Did you get yourself through law school, run and win both a senate seat and a presidency. You may be in a financial bind right now, but you didn't do much of anything to avoid it except go along for the ride, expecting others to guide the ship. President O'Bama has taken the world's troubles on his shoulders, works unceasingly on a multitude of projects and programs, including the healthcare program, which is designed to help 48M people so poor and disenfrachised that they cannot even take their children to the doctors office. And for all of this, he gets chided for taking his strong, loving and supportive wife out to dinner. Shame on the lot of you. None of you would be up to his job. Thank God he is the one in charge of things and not the likes of you.

I could care less what the Obama's actually eat.

It is just that they are where they are... not because of HOW HARD THEY WORKED..

Show me any documentation that EITHER of them worked at a retail job, or some POOR black or white TRASH establishment.

Would anyone out there begrudge them anything if THEY had done more than TAKE ADVANTAGE of the fact that they are both black.

He uses the color of his skin ANYTIME he gets in trouble. She hates AMERICA.

If you follow his and her logic THEY ARE SUCCESSFUL Blacks so they have to give black to the black community. (Princeton thesis.

His entire agenda is to ADVANCE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION because it can not be done in courts of law... BUT he has to pass legislature to make RETRIBUTIONS FOR SLAVERY.

I always wonder if the jealous angry people who write these screeds about not being as wealthy as the Obamas and how dare they enjoy life and the privileges of rank ever post on a Texas newspaper website about how the previous President wrecked our economy and now he is enjoying a palatial home on a fat government pension with excellent helath care; and how dare he do that while we ordinary folks suffer? Or is it only Republicans who get to be rich? THEY certainly all think so.

Oh! PS: There are many people in this world who'd be grateful to have a good wholesome, healthy bowl of split pea soup. Why don't you try devoloping an "attitude of gratitude" instead of worrying about what someone else has?

Oiy! You people who lament your problems as if you've been totally faultless for part of them...And the jealousy! Because I can't have lobster, NOBODY else should! Is it possible that Obama worked harder in his life to get where he is than you did? I know I have friends and one sister who worked MUCH harder than I did and guess what? They go on more vacations, eat out more often, worry less about money now than I do. Why shouldn't they? They WORKED and sacrificed early on to be where they are now.

Gee how sweet, they are "Kennedy-ing" it up on the Cod and my daughter was evected this week from a home she tried to keep. Indy Mac Federal was bought out with "our money" and the new bank would not work with her or honor the agreement with IndyMac Federal. So whoop it up Mr and Mrs Pres, We knew Jack Kennedy and you ain't no Jack. He cared about our country and people. You have been on one big vacation since you moved to Washington DC. People are being evicted and your kids are snug in their beds.

What, you're expecting someone to argue with you?

So what's wrong with pea soup, mgd1? I love pea soup! It's delicious, and it's healthy!

I figure anyone who's earned a law degree law degree and written two best sellers and won two elections and is running the country deserves to be able to eat out.

Gosh--and still time to read 2400 pages and five books! What an amazing man!

You know why I believe he's reading 5 books on vacation? The same reason I believe expanding health insurance coverage will actually cut health costs.

I am an idiot.

Meanwhile my family had split pea soup with bacon - cheap eats for hard times.

Best wishes to the rich Obamas and their billionairre friends - laughing their way to the bank while we save pennies.

Wait! What'd he order?? What kind of reporting is this?!? [expletive]!! I want to know what he ordered!

I'm glad he's eating out. He COULD be in the oval office smoking cigars out of interns' crotches but he's not. He's out being cool.

This president's rad!

President Obama is a breath of fresh air for our country and the world and I want him to know that no matter how much criticism he has to endure, there are millions of us out here who wish him well. We feel forever grateful that we have an an intelligent, kind and thoughtful President representing us at last. Now just get on with it. Making everyone happy, even the naysayers should be off his list of priorities.
