First Leg of Vacation Over, Obama Heads for D.C.

By Michael D. Shear
OAK BLUFFS, Mass. -- President Obama and his family prepared to depart Martha's Vineyard today, heading back to the White House for two days before taking another break before school begins, this time at Camp David.

Air Force One was scheduled to depart the area at just before 5 p.m, getting the president back to the White House at about 6:30. But before they left, the First Family made one more island outing, visiting a local general store in the town of West Tisbury.

Obama, his daughters Malia and Sasha, and First Niece Suhaila, the daughter of First Sister Maya Soetoro Ng, spent about five minutes in the store. Obama was dressed in a Chicago White Sox baseball hat, jeans and a black fleece jacket. Malia wore a t-shirt and black jacket. Sasha and Suhaila were both in pink jackets.

"Malia, did you figure something out?" Obama asked as he suggested things the girls might buy. "Hey, what about these, Malia?" he said, standing in front of a display of earrings.

Obama bought candies for the girls: Nerds and astronaut ice cream. The woman behind the counter -- Maya, she told him -- prompted a surprised response from the leader of the free world.

"Hey that's my sister's name," he said, pointing to Suhaila. "Her mom's name is Maya."

Obama and the girls then went to Garcia's Deli and Bakery, where he bought an oatmeal raisin cookie -wrapped in plastic, and shook it in the air saying "this is a classic" and chatted with employees and posed for a photo before heading out.

Agree that this was too much fluff. The first niece? Please. I'm much more concerned with the unprecedented expansion of beauracracy with documented radicals as the CZARS. A diversity chief of the FCC whose stated mission is to be a "community organizer" within the Federal Government? And further intends to reallocate licenses based on political philosophy! My God, where are we headed?

THIS IS A DEMOCRACY OF, BY AND FOR THE PEOPLE. I GET SO DISCUSTED THAT THE PEOPLE DON'T EVEN TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN HOW OUR GOVERNMENT RUNS. WE ATTACK IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES. HOW ABOUT YOUR CONGRESSMAN WHO WORKS FOR CORPORATE AMERICA AND NOT THE DEMOCRACY? ARE YOU ASKING HIM WHY IS IT THAT THE SENATE IS A CLUB OF MULTI-MILLIONAIRES WHO DON'T WANT TO PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES. THEY HAVE GOTTEN BY SINCE RONALD REAGAN DEREGULATED EVERYTHING SO THAT CORPORATE AMERICA COULD MAKE US POOR AND THE SENATE COULD BE THE PIMPS THAT PROSTITUTE US IN THE LABOR MARKET.
WAKE UP. IT AIN'T OBAMA THAT'S MESSING WITH YOU. TRY LOOKING AT YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS. AND YES, IF THEY PAY THEIR TAXES AND CONFESS THEIR OFF SHORE BANK ACCOUNTS FOR THEMSELVES AND FAMILY MEMBERS, WE COULD HAVE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE AND DECENT JOBS AND EDUCATION.
LET US FIRST GET NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE SO THAT THE SMALL BUSINESSES CAN BENEFIT AND SO THAT THE MIDDLECLASS WORKING AMERICANS CAN HAVE FULL INSURANCE COVERAGE AT A FIIR PRICE AND IF YOU LOOSE YOUR JOB, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOOSE YOUR LIFE.
AFTER HEALTH REFORM, LET'S START REGULATING CORPORATIONS ABD BANKS BACK TO THE PRE-REAGAN ERA WHERE WE HAD JOBS, EDUCATION, HOUSES, AND RETIREMENT PLANS. WE HAD UNIONS THAT NEGOTIATED FOR FAIR EMPLOYMENT AND WAGES. BEFORE OUR JOBS WERE SHIPPED OVERSEAS BECAUSES OUR COMPANIES OPERATED OVERSEAS AWAY FROM REASONABLE EMPLOYEE BENEFITS AND JOB SAFETY. LETS MAKE ALL AMERICAN COMPANIES THAT OPERATE OVERSEAS TO PAY TAXES EQUIVELENT TO THE SAVINGS THEY MAKE OVERSEAS USING UNFARE LABOR PRACTICES.
WE HAS A LOT OF WORK TO DO. STOP FIGHTING.

The president has worked extremely hard over these last months and is deserving of a vacation. I truly hope he had a restful one.

Not to mention spending some 'unscheduled' time with his young children and wife. The worst among us need time to look at the sky and embrace nature for what its worth.

For the detractors he will never, ever be able to please them. I have a lot of faith that eventually his political savvy will prove him more skillful than many are predicting. He never got to the White House because it was handed to him on a platter. He fully understands what's at play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GisOAYMONzY

MEMO TO POTUS:

THE EXTRAJUDICIAL PUNISHMENT NETWORK BEQUEATHED TO YOU BY BUSH-CHENEY TAKES NO VACATION.

YOU MUST ACT TO PRESERVE THE RULE OF LAW AT THE GRASSROOTS.

When will Team Obama end the secretive, extajudicial, federal-local multi-agency "coordinated action program" that is destroying the lives and livelihoods of unjustly targeted Americans...

...via covert, warrantless GPS/cell phone tracking, stalking and harassment; financial sabotage; and the deployment of silent, health degrading, "slow-kill" microwave and laser directed energy weapons...

...the weaponization of the electromagnetic spectrum...

...the Xyklon-B of a Bush-Cheney- spawned American Gestapo that continues to operate on YOUR watch -- enabled by the blind naivete of your cabinet?

Did the Washington Post have to fill space?
This is pure fluff!

This is a fresh start for the president. Kennedy dominated most of last week, pushing aside the heated health care debate, low poll numbers and whatever other "bad" news was lurking in the press. This could be a big week for Obama...

You Betcha come 2012 if not sooner our ever
on endless vacations loser Barack Obama is
sure to replace fellow Democrat Jimmy Carter as the Biggest Democrat Loser of all
time and that will make Barack Obama a One
Term President and Dismal Failure worse
then Jimmy Carter and even when you throw
in Republican George W Bush to boot! And it
will be fun to see how AWOL Obama pays for
all his next endless vacations after 2012.

Mr. Obama and all don't make me sick -- quite the contrary -- but the First This, First That on every relative surely does. Limit it to the immediate family, please. While you're at it, decline any opportunities to refer to him as First Fan, or First Bowler, or whatever. I'd appreciate it.

Since when are their such people as the first neice, the first sister? It is the immediate family only, obama, his wife and children. They all make me sick.

I hope the second leg of the vacation he decides to spend less time on the golf course and more time with his daughters.

Posted by: justmyvoice | August 30, 2009 4:59 PM

If the incompetent Obama can vacation the rest of his term, so much the better for America!

Posted by: sperrico | August 30, 2009 4:49 PM

Uh Oh Momlee your hate is leaking out. Reagan a yr on vacation out of 8, Bush 1 300+ days out of 4 yrs, Bush 2 96 days in the first 350 days...3 yrs out of 8 yrs...and yes Clinton 1 yr out of 8 yrs..You are entitled to your opinions but not facts. Obama less 20 days out of 8 mths. While other presidents give each other a letter and maybe a crisis here or there, Bush gave Obama the worst recession since the great depression, Iraq, Afghanistan, pakistan, flattened wages for 10 yrs, a more powerful iran and north korea should I go on...go fly a kite- why don't you?

Posted by: titilayo3 | August 30, 2009 4:13 PM

Obama deserved to pitch a tent on his Chicago lawn. Shame on him to flaunt this expense on the taxpayer dime..Yes he paid $35,000 the rest was our cost. Americans voted for Obama not Tiger Woods. Stop spending our hard earned dollars, get back to work, and be a responsible family. Get off TV....stop Holder, keep us safe, throw the health bill in the trash...rewrite a simple bill...address the deficit..show by example..toss out the czars..no cap & tax, tie your shoe laces to the chair and find a way to be presidential. Such a dream...too much to expect..change I can believe.
