Getting 'All Wee-Weed Up'

Note: Please upgrade your Flash plug-in to view our enhanced content.

By Garance Franke-Ruta
President Obama yesterday created a new Internet meme that may make some little piggies want to go wee-wee-wee all the way home.

But the 18th-century children's rhyme "This Little Piggy" was not, as it turns out, the childhood reference the president of the United States and leader of the free world was making when he yesterday told his political troops at Organizing for America, "There's something about August going into September where everybody in Washington gets all wee-weed up. I don't know what it is. But that's what happens."

No. He meant that other definition of wee-wee, the one that's got political consultants and journalists across the city cracking jokes like, "Parents across America to their kids at bedtime tonight: 'No more wee-weeing up tonight! or I will call President Obama in the morn!'" as Kevin Madden did on Twitter Friday.

"I think 'wee-weed up' is when people just get all nervous for no particular reason," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs explained Friday.

"August of 2008, everybody was nervous about whether the entire presidential campaign was slipping out from underneath the hands of the president, who they previously didn't think would actually be the nominee. So this is just -- this is sort of an August pundit pattern between people getting overly nervous for something that still has a long way to go. Bed-wetting is -- would be probably the more consumer-friendly term."

I'm not a Republican, but I'm not a die-hard Obama enthusiast either. Believe it or not, you can stay well-informed on important national issues without pledging allegiance every morning to a government party.

Obama's greatest problem right now is that he's slow to understand that EVERY word he says can and will reach the public ear. I'm sure the term "wee-wee'd up" is something he casually dropped, and liked, so he kept using it, never anticipating it would hit the national spotlight. Now it's ripe for criticism for anti-Obama dittoheads, because the President said something...odd.

How terrible!

W. was much better at saying strange, confusing, and erroneous things in his public speeches.

For those who think Obama is destroying the country: It takes YEARS for any President to clear up the legacy of the previous President.
For those criticizing his vacation: W. spent 1/3 of his presidency on vacation, even while Congress WAS IN SESSION.
For those who fear healthcare rationalization: Healthcare is all ready rationalized--by insurance companies. It's rationed to those who can afford it, and for those who can, there are further rations: how many times you can see a therapist; how much of what "approved" medications you can take; what procedures you can have; how many fillings you can get for your teeth; and the list goes on and on...

The deficit is a huge problem, and thanks to Bush, Reagan, and W., it has ballooned to over $57 trillion. Obama has to play the hand he's been dealt. And would a true socialist hand out billions to mega-corporations to keep them running?

The government cannot take into account "spunk," "spirit," and "the will to live." Neither can insurance companies. Or even doctors. That's why we need people like Dylan Thomas.

So Obama, be careful about what you say. And to all those who think affordable healthcare will be our ruination, I say, "Bring 'em on."

The one-thousand-page health care bill is loaded with sections that while do not explicitly contain words such as death panels leaves open to some serious interpretations.

For example, there is a paragraph that reads…This section amends the Social Security Act. The government has the power to determine what constitutes an ‘applicable [medical] condition.’ The government has the power to determine who is allowed readmission into a hospital. This determination will be made by statistics: when enough people have been discharged for the same condition, an individual may be readmitted…

In other words there is nothing personal or inclusive of a doctor’s opinion, it will be statistically based.

This coincides with Obama’s answer to the woman with the 100-year-old mother, “Are you going to take into account the spunk and spirit, the will to live?” was, “I don’t think we can do that.”

This is government rationing, pure, simple, and solves the Social Security issue by allowing people to die sooner.

There are better options like remodeling rundown buildings and making them into health centers sponsored by the government and run by physicians, serious Tort reform, expansion of purchasing, re competing health insurance for insurance only. Let the doctor control the patient.

Your President is trying to tell you that he is the only adult in the room as always.
Your have all sorts of people pissing themselves and predicting doom and gloom over health care.
you have people saying he is not a strong leader yet he is the only one with the guts to stay on message and not get ruffled when the going gets tough.
wee weed up means what it sounds like ...bed wetting ,pissing yourself generally being spineless.
This man and his administration have laser like vision they will pull these cowards through this kicking and screaming, but it will get done.

The MAN said "health care reform will get done" end of story bedwetters
get yourselves some diapers and sleep tight, this game is for BIG BOYS

This is one progressive that is definitely NOT AMUSED at the shot taken by our President, one I must add I worked hard to get elected. So he plays nice, is very respectful to the Repukes who have ruined our country for the past 8 years and who he knows will never vote for any program he will sign anyway? Yet, insults the folks he campaigned hard to win over and who helped him into the Presidency? It looks as if he learned well from the Repuke playbook - promise your base anything, yet produce the minimum until it's time to make those golden promises again at reelection time. Well, he's about to learn in 2010 that we're not sheeple. He better do some of what he promised NOW while he still has a majority in both houses. I hear it takes time to build a viable third party for a run in 2012. And, no, we won't vote for Repukes in 2010, but who knows what fed-up independents will do? We want the same health care that Congress and our President enjoy. Too much to ask?

The only "wee-weeing" are the perennial liberal bed-wetting thralls crying about the latest sky-is-falling scam the "authorities" on the left have concocted for their hand-wringing "stimulation."

Of late, it's been the "planet has a fever" scam that continues to have them wee-weeing themselves -- even as the seasons change as usual and we see ordinary weather patterns and even see falling global temps, these conditioned, easily misled, easily brainwashed wee-wee-ers continue to pull their hair.

Always proven wrong in the final analysis, typical liberals never learn and never shut their endless mouths from spewing the regurgitated propagandist rhetoric they picked up from MSNBC and HuffPo and their socialist liberal-arts professors.

Ignorant, noisy sheep ceaselessly bleating and babbling in support of those who would lead them down the primrose path to totalitarianism.

Now, being as their false idol is obviously a media-propped crazily overhyped sham with ulterior motives based around a radical authoritarian agenda -- that, and *nothing* else of any mentionable substance ("hope and change," and the beguiled dimwits swallowed the line; got played like a fiddle) -- being as it's beyond obvious Obama is a hack with a radical philosophy formed around the rantings of ax-grinders like Wright, you'd think the libs would take a look around, recognize the fallacy of their "doctrine," shut up, and start unlearning their sick programming. Instead they continue to recycle their whiny "talking-points memos" from the one-page liberal playbook: blame Bush, make cracks against Palin, and wee-wee themselves over Limbaugh's every utterance. That's some rut.

"Weed up" is a hipster expression for way cool, derived from the marijuana reference.

It's been in the "Urban Dictionary" since 2005:

Maybe POTUS just misspoke, and "wee wee-ed up" is the cover story.

Or is that too "up in smoke"?

Posted by: scrivener50 | August 22, 2009 1:36 PM | Report abuse

While he's spending the country into disaster so he can create his socialist society, he takes time to vacation in one the most elitist places in the country. Hmmm...sounds about right. He is, after all,the supreme ruler, the king, the chosen one. Yep, makes sense to me.

Posted by: patilee | August 22, 2009 1:28 PM | Report abuse

I guess Obama would say his friend Professor Gates was all "wee-weed" up, then? How about Hilary when she fired at a foreign questioner that she, not her husband Bill, was Secretary of State? All "wee-weed" up? How about Obama's 20+ year pastor Jeremiah Wright, damning the United States as a "racist superpower" and claiming that in Hurricane Katrina, "protecting white folks' property took priority over saving black folks' lives" - remarks which Obama refused to disavow - all "wee-weed" up?

Well, at least the president has given us some examples of whatever the opposite of "wee-weed" up is. How about announcing on a late Friday afternoon that this administration's policies will run the deficit to over $9 TRILLION dollars, and then running off to Martha's Vinyard for vacation?

Keep your wee wee to yourself, Mr President.

You people are so wrong. ;)

It was "oui-oui d'up". The French cult, Assension de l'Affirmative, uses this as their motto.
He was sending secret signals to the French underground to prepare for the UN takeover of healthcare. For months the French have been secretly hoarding the world's sugar supply in preparation for an all out assault on world health. Ganache, pastries, truffles, and other plaisirs pécheurs are all part of the sinister plans to literally ram change down America's throat. One delectable bonbon at a time.
Oui Oui d'Up, America.

Its as plausible as the wacky accusations you guys have made.

And you know what, it works like a charm!

Millions of Americans' lives hang in the balance of this debate, and all you can focus on is a mispronunciation of "riled"?

The President has delivered hundreds of thousands of words to the American people. They're not all going to be perfect.

Remember during the election, when everyone chastised the President, saying he should be more aggressive, respond more to ad hominem or blatantly false attacks upon him, his character, etc?
What happened then?
Millions of Americans walked streets, picked up phones, and quietly but furiously working to elect Barack Obama.

As you say (or cite at least), Organizing for America has sent over 64,000 volunteers to Congressional offices to share personal health care stories and express the desperate need for health insurance reform. We might not be screaming, misleading, threatening or getting the kind of press you get when you carry an automatic weapon to a Presidential event. However, we are quietly but furiously making a difference. Wait and see.

With respect,

Slow news day.

The president said wee wee.

Woo Hoo! So what?

Bush asked DHS to declare code Yellow to describe the color of his undershorts while we were under attack 8 years ago.

Or was that orange for elevated anytime there was a hint of bad news for him or if he just wanted to ratchet up the fear factor.

And the MSM would go into full wee wee mode begging anyone to tell them why we should be afraid. WaPo and others would reliably fall for the time tested favorite about "a high level of chatter" not realizing the chatter was coming from a high level in government.

The MSM are doing it again by not fully debunking the lies that there will be a government takeover of health care.

Wee Wee Wee all the way home is a pretty good description of the profession of journalism these days.

This is easy folks; here's a primer:

- Explaining why you don't believe a government option is good for the country: Responsible, civil discussion.
- Yelling "socialist" at every proposal: Wee-weeing.

- Voicing your concerns at town hall debates: Responsible, civil discussion.
- Shouting down congressmen or displaying guns for no apparent purpose: Wee-weeing.

- Arguing the merits of the current private system: Responsible, civil discussion.
- Making up lies about "death panels": Wee-weeing.

- Voicing fears that the proposal may degrade the medical system you are happy with: Responsible, civil discussion.

- Making a big deal about the word "wee-wee": Wee-weeing.

Now that that's clear, is there room in this country for any adults?

If they're dropping out of Medicare, all the more reason for a public option to bend the cost curve. At that point, they can elbow each other out of the way to treat the relatively few people wealthy enough to afford to pay them.

Right now, the only ones giving everything are the insured sick going bankrupt. It's time the rest of this health care delivery system gave a little also.

Uh, JaxMax, you missed the boat on Bush 43's oratorical legacy. For starters, "Misunderestimate," et al. (And lest we not forget "Mission accomplished" and "Heck of a job, Brownie."

Robert Pear, in an article to appear in the NY Times for August 22, points out that fears about losing Medicare coverage or service quality are well founded. For several years Congress has practiced brinkmanship with the Medicare fee schedules, so far always sparing the axe but at almost the last moment. Medicare policy is fairly permissive, but its rates are on the low side, so physicians are anxious. Many of them tell their patients that they don't know whether they can continue to participate in Medicare, and some have dropped out.

The Obama administration has been hopped up over the potential for savings. However all its proposals, including better medical records and comparative effectiveness studies, are long-term, possibly yielding substantial cost reductions in ten to twenty years. That is a total mismatch to politics, which needs results yesterday if not before. The political answer is squeezing reimbursements. Without genuine savings, that must simply mean service cutbacks, and plenty of older people understand what it means.

So not everyone is "all wee-weed up" over health care. Many are just concerned about their current needs and plans.

"wee weed" is so appropriate applied to people who get all panicky and esaily sacred by the townhall ranters and yellers. Palin caused many "wee-weers" with her "death panel" mongering. Obama has hit on a most simple basic child-level word to make the ranters look childish and those who got scared about healthcare reform really silly. Excellent! Top that Palin you pig with a lipstick.

jaxmax and jakeD (read their comments) 'are all wee weed up'

That's the proper useage.

(By the way--that whole axis of evil thing worked out real
well didn't it?).

When I listen to the TV pundits I am amazed at how brilliant they are and how dumb the president is by comparison. Lest you Republicans get too joyous, this same condition exists when it is a Republican President. My goodness, Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan know exactly what Obama should do and Fox News they just can't believe how stupid and evil Obama is. I used to believe that freedom of the press was one of the strengths of our country but as the internet and cable news have gained precedence it has become evident that the media does more damage to the decision making process in this country than any other institution. News now is watching anyone who exhibits outrageous behavior or has a negative opinion about anything being done. God help us!

for Reasons for Obama's creash and burn in polls, consider the Presidential prose of Obama:

"There is something about August going into September where everybody in Washington gets all wee weed up!"

Presidential oratorical legacies:

George Washinton--no foreign entanglements

FDR-nothing to fear but fear itself

Eisenhower--military industrial complex

George Bush 43--axis of evil

Obama--"wee weed up".

So, did Gibbs just call every Beltway pundit "bed-wetters"?
