Victoria Kennedy a Guest of First Lady
By Ann Gerhart
The late senator Ted Kennedy said that affordable health care for all Americans was the cause of his life, and his widow will be seated in the Capitol as President Obama urges Congress, and the nation, to end the debate and adopt reform.
Victoria Reggie Kennedy is a guest of first lady Michelle Obama. The senator's children, Kara and Ted Jr., are guests of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and will sit in the box given to her to use on these occasions. Their brother, Patrick, a Rhode Island congressman, will be one of several lawmakers who escort President Obama into the chamber, and then he will join his siblings. Their father died Aug. 25 after living with brain cancer for 15 months.
Among the 22 guests in the first lady's box are people from across the country who have been fighting seemingly Titanic battles with insurance companies. Two of them, Katie Gibson and Nathan Wilks, tell their stories in White House videos.
