Obama to Make Olympic Pitch

By Michael A. Fletcher
President Obama will travel to Denmark on Thursday to lend his weight to efforts to land the 2016 summer Olympics for his adopted hometown of Chicago, the White House said Monday.

Obama will join first lady Michelle Obama, senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and a contingent of Chicagoans to make make a final effort to persuade the International Olympic Committee to award the games to Chicago. The committee is scheduled to announce its decision on Friday.

Initially, Obama said he would not go to Copenhagen, saying he was too busy with his legislative initiatives, including the health care reform package taking shape in Congress.

But with the heads of state of the other finalist cities -- Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, and Madrid -- having committed to going to Copenhagen to lobby the IOC, Obama decided to make the trip. Previously, Obama has made videos and spoken publicly in support of Chicago's Olympic bid.

The White House said his trip will be brief. Obama plans to leave Washington Thursday evening, make his presentation to the IOC on Friday and then return to Washington that night.

I just wanted to thank you all. (You know who you are.) This is excellent fodder for my side of an argument with a conservative who is telling me that conservatives are serious problem solvers and that the kooks are a minority. After he reads this nonsense, I'm sure he'll follow the link to read the whole lot of this sore loser, baby whining dribble.

In case people weren't aware, the President essentially takes a traveling office with him everywhere he goes.

Oh, they know. We we told this by them a million times to excuse Bush's 1/3 of his presidency spent on vacation.

I wonder how many of the millions of unemployed will applaud the President flying to Scandinavia? And the millions who are under-insured because his promises of job creation have not brought back the living wage jobs they had; how many of them will be thrilled that the President is running over there?

General McChrystal's report has languished for weeks now, but he's probably going to think about that on the way over, right?

Why he couldn't have made his pitch by teleconference instead of flying all the way over there? Hmm, seems that the White House staff could have handled that. But, pressing the flesh and hearing the oratory in person is so much more impressive, I'm sure.

Congratulations, Chicago.

Wow, the amount of hysterical foaming-at-the-mouth here is truly remarkable.

In case people weren't aware, the President essentially takes a travelling office with him everywhere he goes. And could anyone specify exactly what he could accomplish towards all the other issues listed in this thread compared in handful of hours involved in procuring the Olympics? The Administration can do more than one thing at once.

"Is it me, or does this just seem downright risky?"

It's you. As mentioned in the article, the other government leaders are also doing this, so he's just matching the efforts of the leaders of Argentina, Japan, and Spain.

Making this trip is insanity but The One thinks he is the only one who can get things done but all he has managed to do is spend money and make our country weaker. Just three years and four months and we will elect a real, committed leader.

Republicans will now go from trashing Obama for not going to Copenhagen and "fighting for America" to criticizing his decision to leave the country in the middle of high unemployment and the health care debate.

Is it me, or does this just seem downright risky? I mean, if the IOC doesn't choose Chicago, isn't that basically a repudiation of Obama? And, if the committee does choose Chicago, does the world community competing for the games including South America not resent the "rubber stamp" just because HE decided to make the pitch?

After the report on Sunday of the Chicago youth who was savagely beaten to death by a gang because he refused to join is heartbreaking enough. The most appalling thing about this is that the President and First Lady aren't traveling to Chicago today to be with the family of this boy, and to show the local community, as well as the nation, this will not be tolerated in America. All you hear is how the nation is changing because Obama was elected. It is even that much more disgusting that the Obamas, who come from Chicago, would not be that much more inclined to go there to show their disgust as local members of the Chicago community and as the leaders of this nation. When a child has made the right choice to stay in school and excel as this boy did and then not even be safe enough to walk home from school without being brutally attacked by gang members, it makes me want to vomit! America is going nowhere fast and our children are the ones who are suffering the most and have no future if things continue on this path of destruction. Forget the Olympics in Chicago Mr. President and make Chicago safe for the inner city youth who make the right choices to have a better life just like you and you're wife did!

It is difficult to understand why the President, who abhors 'distractions' to his game plan, is constantly seeking to be one himself. But then, it's always been all about him. When will this endless, apologetic, jet-lagged, financially tanked, jobless, and so tiring national distraction ever end? The Olympics are now about business and jingoism, not sport. These spectacles have a negative economic impact over the long run; just ask the people of London or Beijing. As one who was actually born in Chicago, and have many family members still there, let me say that most people who LIVE there, do not want the Olympics. A city that makes its public employees take a furlough because they cannot afford to pay them can not afford the billions needed to host these useless games. Let Rio have them.

I agree with previous posts - Barry O has more important things to accomplish during his first (and only ) term.

Obama Knew About Iran Nuclear Site Last Year:

President Barack Obama has known about the secret site where Iran has established a uranium enrichment facility for nearly a year.

According to The New York Times, Obama was informed of the site in Qom, Iran, by Bush administration officials at some point after his election last November.

Earlier this year sensitive equipment was moved to the site, prompting Obama to reveal its existence on Friday night at the G-20 economic summit in Pittsburgh. On Saturday, Obama issued an ultimatum to Iran:

"Iran's leaders must now choose they can live up to their responsibilities and achieve integration with the community of nations. Or they will face increased pressure and isolation, and deny opportunity to their own people," he said in his radio and Internet address.

Obama said the construction of the underground plant at Qom "continues a disturbing pattern of Iranian evasion."

Last week, this man informed we huddled masses that he has singlehandedly transformed the world as we know it in the 9 short months since his ascendency to the throne. He keeps busy making the rounds of the Sunday morning talk shows, offers alms to the Iranians and North Koreans, stiffs our long time European allies, is secretly releasing Gitmo detainees to foreign countries, continues strategizing domestic policies with SEIU/ACORN/AFL/CIO and apologizes non-stop to the world for the United States of American pre-Obama.
Despite his lofty pronouncements of his battle plan for Afghanistan during his campaign that never ends, he can’t make up his mind whether or not to take the advice of his Military Advisors (and we now find out from 60 Minutes that he hasn’t talked to MacCrystal in over 2 months, by the way) and send in more troops, because it’s more important to count the votes than it is to take a stand on National Defense. In the meantime, our young men are getting killed by the dozens in Afghanistan. It’s time to get out before they are all annihilated. In the meantime, his latest top priority is to fly to Denmark to pitch the 2016 Olympics in Chicago. This President is an embarrassment to the United States of America.

Most of us living in the Chicago area do NOT want the Olympics here. Illinois has always been a corrupt, crime-ridden state, and Obama and his cronies have only made it worse over the past several years. Obama and his Democratic thugs only want to get their hands on all the loot that will flow into the city. Instead of lobbying for the Olympics, Obama, Emanuel, Jarrett, and other crooks should be facing indictment and prosecution like their old pal Blago.

As a President Obama supporter I am a little disappointed. With the number of serious problems on his plate it's hard to understand why he would devote time to this. In spite of the spin put on it by the city fathers most Olympics don't really add that much to the city coffers except publicity for the incumbent politicians. It's made to look profitable by exaggerating revenues (which are never confirmed by audit afterward) and burying costs in dept. budgets.

I'd say maybe he needs a vacation but didn't he just take one?
