Obama girls vaccinated against swine flu

Updated 6:17 p.m.
By Garance Franke-Ruta
Well, that settles that.

Ending speculation about when and whether the Obama girls would receive the scarce swine flu vaccine, the White House on Tuesday revealed that Sasha and Malia were both vaccinated last week, after the vaccine became available to children in the District.

As previously reported by The Post, all four members of the Obama family have received the seasonal flu vaccine, but the president and first lady have not yet received a shot to protect against the H1N1 flu virus, or swine flu. Only 16.5 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine have become available so far, a figure well short of public demand, leading to rationing.

"They will wait until the needs of the priority groups identified by the CDC -- including young people under the age of 24, pregnant women, and people with underlying conditions -- have been met," the first lady's press secretary, Catherine Mccormick-Lelyveld, explained on the White House blog.

"The girls' H1N1 vaccine was administered by a White House physician, who applied for and received the vaccine from the DC Department of Health using the same process as every other vaccination site in the District," she wrote.

The Centers for Disease Control's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that all children between 6 months and 18 years be vaccinated against H1N1 "as soon as possible." Those not in the high-priority groups are being asked to wait until more vaccine is available.

A case of swine flu was recently reported on the campus of Sidwell Friends School attended by Malia Obama, though not in the middle-school she attends there.

How pathetic.

I am now utterly convinced that there is a large slice of our population that: 1) Aren't ever content or happy; 2) Have too much time on their hands; 3) Are illiterate and/or have low reading comprehension; 4) The media doesn't understand that Presidential offspring is off-limits, ALL the time. Even for petty and private subjects like this one.

When are all the poor without any insurance getting their vaccination? I will not be alive but I'll bet 100 years from now the American health system will be changed little and the greedy HMO execs et al will still be reeling in the big profits, salaries,. and bonuses! I still say one big problem with the US populace is the fear of socialism and Nationalization.

The President is taking leadership on this issue, by getting the girls vaccinated. Great example!

However, I still am NOT comfortable about this 'untested' vaccine.

I'm glad the Obama girls are protected from H1N1 and seasonal flu. It's sad that a small group of people are trying to make a political issue or conspiracy theory about it.

I have to agree with the majority here - this should have been in public, on TV (inluding Foxnews) and there should have been a way of verifying that it was a 'real' vacc and not water....I don't beleive it, I'm sure most citizens won't either...

Give me a break!!!!!After all the back room dealings, behind-closed-doors maneuvering, and other underhanded dealings of this administration to date, do you really expect the American people to believe that the Obama girls actually got the "real" vaccine? They got it in private. So they could have been given saline or sugar water for all we know. Are we to believe that with the "shortage" of the vaccine that their personal doctor got it through regular channels?

If they really wanted to prove something, they should have done it in public with Obama's media accolytes in attendance and somebody to verify that there was actually vaccine in those syringes.

Strings were pulled, favors called in, but whatever you call it, you will never convince me or probably thousands of other Americans that those girls got the actual vaccine.

Great to lead by example. Will you be getting a flu shot?

interesting that the obama girls were innoculated in private, instead of in public, in a line, gettng the same vaccine as everyone else.
How convenient

No offense but you sound naive. It's 2009 and you actually believe the POTUS and family will do everything just like the rest of America (i.e. in public)? I don't expect that of any president. It's just like the non-stop GOP talking heads who say what the president should and should not do. ARE THEY AWARE OF THE INFORMATION THE POTUS RECEIVES IN HIS DAILY BRIEFING? If not, they don't know have enough information to know squat.

I half expected Glenn Beck on his show to publicly hope that the Obama girls would die from his beloved "poison vaccine." He almost did...

Attention Ms. Obama/POTUS (FLOTUS Staff: Please Forward)

The emergency declaration gives federal agencies draconian powers that allow bureaucrats to suspend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. See:

There is strong evidence of fierce resistance and opposition to President Obama and his administration within certain powerful quarters of the bureaucracy, especially among Bush-Cheney holdovers that investigative reporter Seymour Hersh refers to as "leave-behinds" tasked with a mission.

The concern is that a multi-agency coordinated action program may be the front for an ideologically-driven secret war against this President, and democracy itself.

Is the Obama administration, with this emergency declaration, may be handing the noose to those who seek to execute a seditious plan to undemocratically seize power, at the expense of personal liberty and constitutionally guaranteed rights -- including the right to refuse to be inoculated by government fiat.

• Deposed Honduras President Manuel Zaleya confirms the essence what unjustly targeted citizens worldwide -- including this journalist -- have been reporting for years...

...military, secret security, and intelligence services of many nations, including the U.S., silently assault and torture "targeted individuals," including those regarded as "dissenters" or slandered as undesirables, with debilitating, health-degrading, "slow-kill" electromagnetic microwave and laser radiation weapons systems -- said to include a nationwide installation disguised as cell towers.
