Bill Clinton: I would've stayed in White House 'until I was carried away in coffin'

Former president Bill Clinton said Monday that, without term limits, he would have stayed in the job "until I was carried away in a coffin, or defeated in an election."

"I loved doing the job," Clinton said at a conference in Istanbul. "I loved being president, but I like my current life too. ..... I'll leave the politics to my wife and to President Obama."

Clinton was elected twice to the presidency, the maximum under the Constitution, and served from 1992 to 2000. His wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, is now secretary of state under President Obama.

Clinton said he enjoyed his current position as chairman of the Clinton Global Initiative, which raises funds to address issues ranging from health care to poverty to climate change.

President Bill Clinton may have had personal black spots during his tenure as the President (Monica). But his hypothetical stay in White House for longer may have prevented Bush Jr. from entering the same. The world could have been much safer. How the USA that produced great Presidents like Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt elect some one as dumb as Bush Jr?

Who knew?

A sex-starved, power hungry ex president and ''going long''...

He has so much American blood on his hands already, getting his ''Clintons in'' and lying to the American public instead of tending to national security issues...Al Queda and Osama Bin Laden...killing the terrorist when he was there in his sights on numerous occassions.

What a shame. Why is WaPo covering Bill Clinton at all. He is an American disgrace in so many ways and responsible for erasing and lowering American political, ethical and marital standards for Americans and for those in the international community who once held American ideals and standards as a global model....

Term limits are a great thing and should be immposed on all elected officials. Who would not to keep a job where you can have sex with different women at his own discretion and not have to pay for it? This character is about the same as the sitting president, a joke. With people like these in office the lazy do not have to worry about taking care of themselves because the government will do it for them; while the people that work hard pays for all the services being provided by the government.

Moderates everywhere, left and right would like to see Bill Clinton as President again.

I'd take Hillary too!

Dear Mr. Clinton
The country couldn't afford another Whitewater scandal or another Monica (girl with the blue dress) sex scandal in which you lied your way through at least 4 years in office during which time our national security was compromised.

Please stay out of Washington and leave Hillary to do her job.

President Clinton: Save democracy; tell what you know or have heard about this:

* Thousands of Americans, deemed to be "dissidents" or undesirables, targeted by Bush legacy program for debilitating microwave/laser assault, held hostage in their own homes to fed-supported vigilante "community policing" stalking units, equipped with warrantless GPS devices, who vandalize and terrorize as local police look the other way.

* "Directed energy weapons," portable units and a nationwide installation camouflaged as cell towers, induce weakness, exhaustion, head and body aches, physical and neurological impairment, strokes, aneurysms, cancer -- and many victims do not realize what is making them sick.

* Regional Homeland Security- administered "fusion centers" reportedly serve as command centers for covert electromagnetic radiation attacks, pervasive surveillance, financial sabotage of those identified as "dissidents," "trouble-makers" or slandered as threats to society.

* Use of microwave weaponry to torture and impair political opponents recently confirmed by deposed Honduras President Manuel Zelaya.

* Pleas for justice, to local police and FBI, go unanswered -- as do demands for a Department of Justice Civil Rights Division investigation and congressional hearings.

"These are crimes against humanity and the Constitution, being perpetrated under the cover of national security and 'safe streets' by multiple federal and local agencies and commands -- an American genocide hiding in plain sight, enabled by the naivete of those who think 'it can't happen here.'" -- Victor Livingston, former reporter for WTXF-TV Philadelphia, Phila. Personally, I would like to see the 22nd Amendment repealed to allow a person to run for as many terms he/she likes after serving two consecutive terms.
We do have congressioanal term is called Election Day.

This was pretty honest, and it's good to hear from one of the people who's done the job that the term limitations are a good thing.

As Americans, we don't always agree on anything, but it's nice everyone can agree that any one president for too long is a bad idea.

Thank God there is a Term Limits requirement the kept this Narciscistic Professional Lifelong Politician from staying in the Oval Office !!!

Now once again, why isn't there the same Term Limits requirement for the Members of the Congress ???

Oh, yeah, they refuse to pass the legislation the would require it !!!

How convenient for them !!!

.....however WE the Voters/Citizens/Taxpayers can make that decision for them in 2010 and 2012 to give them a one way ticket home !!!

I look forward to another Bush presidency because I miss laughing out-loud while turning the page on my daily Bushism gaffe calendar.

2 was enough for him- but his wife would have made a nice 2 term president- turns out, as Shirley Chisholm said- it is harder to run as a woman than it is as an African American- maybe we will get a female president at some point this century. Meanwhile- Barack needs to move leftward- his current record is actually to the right of what Bill's was for the most part- less ambitious healthcare plan, less ambitious international peace making, avoids taking on gun lobby, avoids gays in the military issue (Clinton tried to pass it as first thing on agenda and had to negotiate back to don't ask don't tell). Clinton asked for a stimulus package that was small and was rejected by congress dominated by Dems.

if bill clinton ran today he'd beat all comers. unfortunately he ran into term limits. if we didn't have term limits that moron W might have tried again - and knowing the stupidity of the american public the schmuck would have been elected again

I look forward to another Bush being president, so our country will be safe, free of tyranny, and actually have a president that cares about everyone, not just his left wing political cronies.

I'm sure others already commented on this point, but Clinton served from 1993-2001, not 1992-2000. I mean, really.

So Bill Clinton thought he was going to be vicariously elected through HRC. But Barack Obama had other plans and played the big-time spoiler to Bill's "biggest fairy-tale" that he every heard of. Little wonder Bill went absolutely nuts on Hillary's campaign and the hustings. There you have it, ladies and gents, boys and girls of all ages. Bill finally told the truth.

By the way, back in the day Ronald reagan mutterred about how if he hadn't been term limited he would have run again. Can you imagine that senile old coot running in 1988, with his failing mind and his baggage of convicted cabinet officers, Iran-Contra, and The EPA debacle?

Repeal Presidential Term Limits. (Just think of shrub running in 2008)

"we wish you had stayed, and stayed. even with 9/11, I am sure fewer service members would have died or been injured and maimed with you at the helm. we miss you, even now.
why didn't you stay? FDR did.... Posted by: nancyjeanmail "

Had he stayed, about the middle of Novenber 2000 covert military action against bin Laden would have commenced, and some very questionable aviation students would have been taken into custody. The Taliban would have complained, but in vain. Work to keep North Korea from going nuclear to attract attention would have continued. Budgets would have balanced for the next four years, reducing the national debt by something like a Trillion dollars.

Republicans would have been unhappy. Americans would have had more jobs.

But America's next great pundit says we shouldn't talk about things like this.

The Republicans pushed so hard for term limiting Presidents, lest another FDR arrive.

How Prescient of them.

Unfortunately many of the "rule of law" Republicans who felt that it was their sacred duty to distract the country and impeach the sitting President while terrorists were planning 9/11, are still in office. How many Republican Senators have been caught lying to their wives and families about who else they've had sex with? How mant were silent while Bush wrecked the country?

America won't be safe until we've driven them all out of office.
