Obama races to vacation home to deal with friend's injured child

Updated 10:03 p.m.
By Anne E. Kornblut
HONOLULU - President Obama's vacation keeps getting bumpier.

On Monday, Obama left an Oahu golf course abruptly, racing back to his family's vacation home after a member of his traveling entourage was hurt.

The son of Eric Whitaker, a close friend of the president's, suffered a minor injury resulting from "run-of-the-mill beach injury," a person familiar with the incident said. The boy was checked out at a local hospital, where doctors determined he would not need stitches, White House spokesman Bill Burton said late Monday.

"Eric and Cheryl Whitaker's son was examined and released from the hospital. He is home playing with his friends and just fine," Burton said.

Several families, including the Whitakers and fellow Chicagoans Marty Nesbitt and his wife and children, are traveling with the Obamas and staying at the vacation house in Kailua.

The president had spent just an hour on Luana Hills Country Club's golf course after making remarks on the attempted Christmas Day airline attack, which consumed much of his weekend. Whitaker was one of those in Obama's golf foursome.

After the entourage departed unexpectedly, the motorcade raced back to the house in a dramatic fashion, and an ambulance was seen speeding in that direction. The incident was initially described only as a "personal matter." A short time later, Obama returned to the golf course.

Wonder how much of our tax dollars are going for all the friends to vacation with the family. Wish these people cared about the American public and national defense as much as a "minor injury"

It is so sad...Americans still divide between white and black, left and right and
Americans assign political drama in these comments to everything, even the scraped knee of a child. No wonder the political landscape is so scattered with BS. There is one President and he has been elected by a democratic process. The process the same ranters try so hard to install in Afghanistan and Iraq. Read some of the abuse...it lets me only think of the commenters who are so American and so Igbirant of the facts. The economic collapse started 12 years ago long before Obama was on the Hurizon, in the days of Bush's Gunboat diplomacy...so there enough blame to go around and touch us all.

Did the taxpayers pay for Obama's Chicago friends to go to Hawaii too? How many friends did the Obama's take on Air Force One at taxpayers expense? How many white house staff got to go on this umpteenth vacation with the Obama's? As a taxpayers, I'd like to know how much of my money is going to frivolous vacations and dinners for 100's of the Obama's friends and staff? He can rush off the golf course to check on a friend's kid but can't go to the TV and make a statement about his Muslim brothers trying to bomb an airliner full of Americans.

Obama sure spends a lot of time on vacation... and don't use Bush spending time at his crawford ranch as your excuse. Bush used the crawford ranch as his home for much of his presidency, instead of the white house. That doesn't mean he didn't work... Bush cut back on golf during the war because he didn't want to be sending troops overseas while he is here having a leisurely time on the greens... I'm not praising Bush, but he sure had a lot more class than Obama....

JakeDuh, you are a sad man who will link himself with racist organizations because of your inability to accept reality. No matter how many times you pretend otherwise, you are a bigot who cannot accept reality. What is sad is that you will link to these sites and have unsuspecting folks sign petitions that can get them under the radar of organizations who follow hate groups. You may want to go down that path, since that is all you have left. But others may not want to.

Simply because John McCain was the loser in this case, doesn't preclude any citizen from filing if they believe the elected official isn't the legitimate winner.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the loser contesting the voting results.

Chester A. Arthur was similarly rumored to have been born in Canada. This was never demonstrated sufficiently by his Democratic opponents, although Arthur Hinman, the attorney in charge of the investigation, raised the objection during his vice-presidential campaign and after the end of his Presidency. Arthur's mother was also a U.S. citizen, but his father was from Ireland, eventually naturalized as a U.S. citizen. Despite the fact that his parents took up residence in the United States somewhere between 1822 or 1824, Chester Arthur additionally began to claim between 1870 and 1880 that he had been born in 1830, rather than in 1829, which caused further confusion. Since his Irish father William was naturalized 14-15 years after Chester Arthur's birth, his citizenship status at birth is unclear, because he was born before the 1868 ratification of the 14th Amendment, which provided that any person born on United States territory and being subject to the jurisdiction thereof was considered a born U.S. citizen, and because he also held British citizenship at birth by patrilineal jus sanguinis. See the rub?

Posted by: JakeD | December 28, 2009 7:30 PM | Report abuse

JakeDuh!

I kind of like that!

JakeDuh, if you're too ignorant to understand that if the President wasn't born in the United States and thereby eligible to become President, any legitimate citizen would have already filed the papers in court to have the election rescinded back on November 5th of 2008, the day after the elections.

Unfortunately, ignorant people like yourself and those with smear agendas like the "Rotund Guy," Rush Limbaugh, (Whom we only wish could have his mouth tied behind his back.) will likely continue with your ignorant blather.

And people like us will simply have to understand your mental deficiency.

Posted by: helloisanyoneoutthere | December 28, 2009 7:27 PM | Report abuse

Alternatively, Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen because his citizenship status at birth was also governed by the British Nationality Act of 1948.

I don't know one person who doubts his citizenship. If you are stuck on a birth certificate, you are offending alot of people. Being born to a US citizens make you a US citizen.

I'm not a female.

The "Ingénue" is a stock character in literature, film, and a role type in the theatre; generally a girl or a young woman who is endearingly innocent and wholesome. Typically, the ingenue is beautiful, gentle, sweet, virginal, and often naïve, in mental or emotional danger, or even physical danger, usually a target of The Cad; whom she may have mistaken for The Hero. Due to lack of independence, the ingenue usually lives with her father or a father figure (although in some rare cases she lives with a mother figure). The vamp is often a foil for the ingenue (or the damsel in distress, for that matter).

In opera and musical theatre, the ingenue is usually sung by a lyric soprano. The ingenue stereotypically has the fawn-eyed innocence of a child. The ingenue is often accompanied with a romantic side plot. This romance is usually considered pure and harmless to both participants. In many cases, but not all, the male participant is just as innocent as the ingenue is. The ingenue is also similar to the girl next door archetype. e.g. Mary Pickford.
