Gibbs calls Limbaugh, Robertson statements on Haiti 'utterly stupid'

By Michael D. Shear
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs lashed out at radio host Rush Limbaugh and televangelist Pat Robertson, calling their comments about the Haitian earthquake "stupid."

Robertson said on his television broadcast that the earthquake was the result of a "pact with the devil" made by the Haitian people. Limbaugh said on his radio show that Americans should not donate to Haitian relief because "we've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax."

Asked about Robertson's comments, Gibbs said, "It never ceases to amaze that in times of amazing human suffering, someone says something that could be so utterly stupid. But like clockwork, it happens with some regularity."

A few minutes later, as he was finishing his daily briefing, Gibbs was asked about Limbaugh's remarks. He paused, then returned to the podium.

"In times of great crisis, there are always people who say stupid things," Gibbs said. "I don't know how anybody could sit where he does, having enjoyed the success that he has, and not feel some measure of sorrow for what has happened in Haiti."

He added: "To use the power of your pulpit to try to convince those not to help their brothers and sisters is sad. My sense is that most people though, because they understand we are part of an amazing world, won't listen."

It is not the first time that Gibbs has engaged in a war of words with figures from the media. In February, he got into a back-and-forth with CNBC reporter Rick Santelli over the administration's housing policies.

Rush & Pat are just saying what the average Neo-con millionaire are thinking.
This applies to the vast majority of Americans too.
Hell, Haiti has little/no W.A.S.P.s so why treat them like they matter?
They aren't right-thinking, God-fearing Christian folk, so let 'em suffer, right?

The comments made by these two pieces of toxic human waste were well beyong the realm of 'stupid'. Stupid is putting your foot in your mouth, making a brief error in judgement once in a blue moon. These frauds don't miss a single chance to pull this crap each time they get one. So I have no doubt Lardboy Limbaugh and Pat 'Blood-Diamond' Robertson wholeheartedly meant every last foul, stinking breath they uttered. Their words aren't stupid - they're hateful, spiteful, selfish, shameless, and can't be happy without sewing the seeds of discord and conflict throughout this country, as well as the world. They completely meant every word they uttered right down to barren pits of those cold, black, dead hearts that pump their icy, venemous blood through their plaque-laced arteries.

If Don Imus gets run out of town on a rail every time he says something 'stupid' for shocks and laughs on the air, surely these two miserable, motherless clowns deserve at LEAST the same treatment. Where are the responsible broadcasters like the ones who always seem to make sure to hold the feet of the world's Don Imuses to the fire when they wander over the line?

Or at the very least, are there any responsible GOP politicians left with enough stones to denounce the roundman's hatespeech and race-baiting, if for any reason just simply because it's the right thing to do? You guys can't ALL be that terrified of crossing Limbaugh, can you?

Based On Pat Robertson's Il-Logic...

1.Americans Prayed to the Devil, Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub to be Freed from British Rule.

2. The Afro-American Prayed to Devil, Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub, to Be Freed from their White Oppressors.

3. Spatacus as well Prayed to the Devil, Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub to be Free.

3. The Aboriginees of Australia Prayed to the Devil to be Free.

4. The People of New Zealand, Somoa, Hawaii and Fiji Islands Prayed to the Devil, Lucifer, Satan & Beelzebub, as well.

5. Mexico's Indigenous Peon Population [Indians] must have also Prayed to the Devil, Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub to be Free of European Spaniard's Oppressive Rule.

5. That would also mean India who was also Colonized by the Oppressive British Government also Prayed to the Devil, Satan, Lucifer, Beelzebub.

The Illogic Of Pat Robertson On Haiti ..Terrible, Low Level Logic

____________________

Based on Pat Robertson's Logic We Americans Must Have Prayed To The Devil, Satan, Lucifer, Beelzebub To be Free Of British Rule, Huh.

Il-Logical, Hate Mongering Conclusions.

Or how about when We Wiped Out The American Natives [Indians] to only 1% of the Current Population ?

Did The Native-Indigenous American Pray to the Devil, Leading their People to Near Extinction, or was it, Might Makes Right, Greed and Power to Take Away, that lead to the Near Extinction of the Native-Indigenous People of America ?

Answer: Might Makes Right. Praise The Lord and Pass the Ammunition Won Over All Else.

Fate, Destiny, also had its way.

Everything Happens in Cycles, Phases and Stages.

God, The Devil & Religion are Thrown in to Justify any Manner of Evil Dealt out on Humanity.

The Devil is a Joke,

The Only Devil or Devilment that I see in this World an on TV as well as the Internet is the Unlimited Devilment and Evil, Both Men and Women have Done to One Another for Millions of Years.

The Only Devil is Man & Woman and the Devilment Men and Women Do Constantly and Consistently to One Another and the Joy they get from Doing Our Devilment.

There is No Devil, there is Only Man and Woman Doing their Devilment, to the Fullest on a Daily Basis.

No Devil Needed, No Devil Wanted or Required, Just Willing Men and Women, Doing Devilment To One Another and Blaming it on Some Make Believed Character they call the Devil, which in actuality is...

why do "responsible" media allow these vile people airtime & print-space?

Isn't it enough to keep a tally of "stupid utterances" by either of them?

eg. a small corner on the back page 15th Jan 2010. Year so far:
Robertson 12, Limbaugh 8 - would be enough for most people to understand what's going on.

What would be real news would be when they say something sensible.

IAlone, the Haitans weren't lobbing missiles at the fault line, provoking it to attack them. The Palestinians are the cause of their own distress. We should pity them, but we don't owe them anything.

Posted by: simpleton1 | January 15, 2010 9:27 AM | Report abuse

Obama and his clique were not very sympathetic to the suffering of the Palestinian people exactly one year ago when so much of Gaza's infrastructure was destroyed and 1400 were killed - Obama described it as their (Palestinians') 'difficulties'. Did the US provide any relief? Of course not! Oh but the US provided the bombs, planes, tanks and armaments to ensure as much destruction and loss of life as possible! So don't be such hypocrites going after Lumbaugh - at least he says exactly what he thinks and doesn't pretend to be a 'goodie-goodie'.

Limbaugh's comments reflect a typically arrogant, greedy and racist perspective that is seen all too many times within the white make born again Christian Businessman set

Limbaugh is racist and a bigot,, and uses the fact that his federal government is spending his tax dollars to help Haiti so it gives him the ability to avoid expressing any personal feelings about helping his fellow man when tragedy strikes,,,

remember, this is the man that justified his non-racist person by saving that wanting to own a professional footbal team which is heavily black and to be involved in the NFL demonstrates that he his not racist yeah, right!!

Limbaugh is representative of the conservative greed. They only want what is best for themselves....not what is best for the country, not what is best for middle class, but what is best for themselves and their wealthy cronies. The trash the follow limbaugh like sheep need to wake up. Why would any middle class American who works for a living follow this multi-millionaire idiot as if he is one of us. All you are to limbaugh is a meal ticket. If you think he really cares about your struggles than you are sadly wrong. He needs middle class votes to do his bidding to get a Republican president in office so they pass laws that gives tax breaks to the rich and un-regulate wall street, but that is all he wants and cares about. You idiots who fall for his B.S. are doing his bidding while he laughs all the way to the bank. Can you imagine the reaction from the Reps if the Dems would of acted like this after 9-11. Only the Party of Hypocrites (GOP) wouldn't realize this.

Ok!! First of all please forgive me if what I am about to say offends anyone. Today Pat Robertson made a comment regarding the earthquake in Haiti. He stated that they deserved it because of their beliefs. Now I remember being taught John 3:16 "For God so loved the WORLD..." I really believe Mr. Robertson should've asked "What would Jesus say?" before he said what he did. God loves everyone. Yes, even the ones who worship the devil. He may not like their sin but He loves the sinner. Mr. Robertson take the plank out of your own eye before you judge the speck in the Haitians' eyes...

As for Mr. Limbaugh... Good thing the earthquake didn't devastate his home or any of his loved ones weren't over there.

Both of these men have gotten rich off of us American citizens. Mr. Robertson has made God a business and lined his pockets very well.

I am not going to judge either one of them otherwise I am as low as they are at this moment and I do not want to stoop to their levels.

FYI the only place you are going to find a hypocrite is on a church pew or podium.

If some tragedy were to strike Rush Limbaugh, would Pat Robertson claim that it is G*d’s punishment for listening to Rush?

Posted by: lynnlm | January 14, 2010 9:13 PM | Report abuse

To me, the sad thing about all this is that it illustrates that people like Limbaugh turn even human misery into issues with which they hope to make political gain. The Hatian people are hurting and dying by the tens of thousands. President Obama was right. In light of our "common humanity" we need to help.

How Prophetic is this?

What's the percentage of having a big earthquake if you build on a fault line. Lets say, if live in California for example. Has there ever been any huge loss of life there in Cali over the years? Do you think the buildings codes should change? Was there ever a huge fire in the US. Where? How about this one. What if you build your house in the gulf or the florida coastline? Will you someday experience massive flooding and damage? Who saids you need flood insurance and how did they come to that conclusion? What do you think will happen? What if you tried to keep out the ocean out with leevees and don't maintain the levees and build your house right next to it. What do you think will happen? What if you build your house on the beach and erosion began to eat at the sand? What would happen to your house eventually? What if you build your house of clay or straw and the big bad wolf came and blew at your house.
You too, can be prophectic just like and even better than pat robertson if you came to the right conclusions, but please, don't call for the assassination a leader of another country. That's taking it a lit...tle to far.

And now my comment for "doughboy"
So he believes that the President's fast response to Haiti vs the attempt by the plane bomber, is political so he (the Pres) can get the "light skin" and dark vote in American. Stupid people have made this ignorant circus clown rich. This is another case of the Blind leading the Blind. By the way, Rush once said this about Bill clinton: "I'm just gonna tell you, if I was named envoy to Haiti, I'd quit government. Envoy to Haiti? You can't even pick up a prostitute down there without genuine fear of AIDS."
Well, here is another history lesson for you Limbaugh.

"Europeans brought with them chronic infectious diseases that were new to the Caribbean, to which the indigenous population lacked immunity. These new diseases were the chief cause of the dying off of the Taíno,[5] but ill treatment, malnutrition, and a drastic drop of the birthrate also contributed. The first recorded smallpox outbreak in Americas occurred on Hispaniola in 1507."From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Does anyone care that Shear's headline for this post is false? "Gibbs calls Limbaugh, Robertson statements on Haiti 'utterly stupid'." But the story applies "utterly stupid" only to Robertson's remarks.

I'm pretty sure Gibbs won't mind the sloppiness on the part of Post writers and editors, but as a reader, stuff like this really irritates me.

This is a case of the Blind leading the Blind.

So by Pats history lesson, the French were led by God to enslave Haiti. The Haitians sign a pact with the devil to oust the French and they succeeded. Now the calamity that has taken place before and now, is because of God's Wrath. So not only did God take his wrath out on the nation of Haiti, He also took his wrath out on the Catholic Haitians and the Protestant Haitans. (We'll have to ask Brit Hume if there were any Buddist Haitians)... Wait, a minute. Perhaps we should ask Pat were there any "righteous" who loss their life, or does Pat think that he's the only one whose righteous therefore he's the only one who knows who the righteous are thereby placing himself on the throne and/or above God. Didn't satan and some other angels who followed satan get kick out of heaven for trying to do the same thing? Satan was and is always trying to usurp the authority of God. Looks like his followers are still in business also. They present themselves as "angels of light." ...And by the way, while America is in the process of rescueing and saving lives, perhaps we should rescue that young lady sitting beside pat robertson. I'm just saying...

Just to correct Robertson on the rest of his stupidity, it Was napoleon that had to grant Toussaint l'Ouverture's revolution its wishes, in the late 18th century, whereupon he now had no reason to need New Orleans, so he sold the whole worthless Louisiana Territory to us. Robertson doesn't seem to know that there is a difference between Napoleon and Louis Napoleon.

Or that history might make a difference.

This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius (age of enlightenment). It is why the writers of "the word" inserted "in the last days many will be deceived, even the elect if it were possible."
