Senate jobs bill on tap after health care

By Ben Pershing
Senate Democrats have begun the process of assembling a job-creation package in hopes of having a bill ready to go soon after the chamber finishes health-care reform.

The Labor Department said Friday that the economy had shed 85,000 jobs in December, and President Obama plans to announce new efforts to create "green jobs" as he shifts to a renewed focus on the economy.

On Capitol Hill, the House passed a hastily-assembled $154 billion jobs package before recessing in December, but the Senate chose to wait. Now that chamber is preparing its own, likely more modest measure, with an eye toward putting it on the floor in February. Senators return to town Jan. 19, and are expected to vote quickly on raising the federal debt ceiling before turning to health care and then the jobs bill.

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) have been tasked with assembling the jobs measure, and the two lawmakers have been paring a list of more than 100 ideas submitted by their colleagues since the fall. A Democratic aide, requesting anonymity because the discussions remain in the preliminary stage, said the ideas fall into four main categories: small business, infrastructure, "green" energy and the public sector.

A second Democratic aide said that infrastructure spending would likely be a major component of the package, since transportation projects tend to be politically popular and are thought by some economic experts to provide the most bang for the government buck. But the aide said there was "small appetite" in the Senate for a package as large as the one that passed the House in December.

The $154 billion House bill was divided into three roughly equal parts: infrastructure projects, easing the budget woes of state and local governments and extending unemployment benefits and subsidizing Medicaid payments. Democrats sought to offset about half of the bill by using unspent money from the TARP financial bailout program, though Republicans dismissed that as an accounting gimmick designed to make the bill seem more deficit-friendly than it really was. Senate Democrats have not yet determined how -- or whether -- they will pay for their jobs bill, though they're also eyeing the TARP funds.

House Democratic leaders chose to pass a jobs bill in December primarily so their members would have an accomplishment to tout during the holiday recess. But the measure only passed 217-212, with 38 Democrats -- many of them the party's most vulnerable incumbents -- voting against it amid fears that the party would be seen as spending too much money, adding to the deficit at a time when the federal debt was spiraling out of control.

As Obama continues his mad dash towards enslaving the American People, any jobs Obama may "create" will be mythical jobs in districts that don’t even exist (as the jobs “created” with the stimulus money). Or, worse yet, “green” jobs as ACORN "community organizers" in charge of helping Obama lie, manipulate, intimidate, and coerce us into socialism/Marxism.

People in other countries seem to understand how horrendous Obama is for Americans better than many Americans:

"Behind the scene and closed doors, Obama is continuing his dark mission of the ongoing takeover of all major US businesses and creating an atmosphere that will disallow small to medium sized businesses to exist.

"Like his Marxist mentor Saul Alinsky, Obama despises the middle-class (they have traditionally wielded too much power for Obama to allow) as well as the USA.

“Therefore, Obama will continue to work towards ensuring increasing unemployment..."

Obama is forcing us to swallow the Obamacare scam, which will destroy our health care, our economy, our freedoms and our country, and all Obama’s lemmings can do is to continue vilifying and demonizing Bush! They don’t realize that Americans have awakened.

Americans realize that the more Obama and his lemmings demonize and vilify someone, the more they demonstrate that whoever they demonize is different from Obama and, therefore, worthy of our respect and gratitude.

Thank you, sandan, for helping us understand that we owe our respect and gratitude to Bush. He was not perfect (no human being is), but he was working for us and not for our enemies.

We lost 85,000 jobs in December , so nimrod Odumbo is touting a program to create 17,000?

The way he lies it would probably only be a quarter of that but is he an idiot?

17,000 in the next year vs. 85,000 lost in a month.

What a dumbas$.

How about cutting taxes or a tax holiday to put money in the pockets of people and to give businesses a break? No, they want to tax tax tax and then spend our money for us.

The economy will get better when the liberals stop demonizing businesses and find ways to help them to survive, even grow, in this economy. Then we will have job growth.

The liberals' idea of job growth is to create enormous bureaucracies so that more of their parasite friends can live off the taxpayers. For people who believe they are so intelligent, they are proving themselves to be pretty stupid.

Next will be Cap-and-Trade written behind closed doors, voted on at night without being read. Once passed Obama's agenda to "fundaamentally transform America" will pretty much be complete. They will control banks, the auto industry, financial institutions, the housing market, health care and the energy sector.

Saul Alinsky, Bill Ayers, Van Jones, Anita Dunn, Valerie Jarrett, Robert Creamer and all the other admitted radicals will be celebrating with Obama at the White House. Mao and Marx will be smiling broadly from their cold cold graves.

In Obama's speech today regarding upcoming green jobs to be paid for by stimulus money, he mentioned two states that will benefit. Those states are Iowa and Nebraska. I guess it's Iowa so they will help him get re-elected and Nebraska so they will get over their disappointment about the fact that Obama and Harry Reid were able to buy their senator's vote on health care.

Unjustly "Targeted" Americans Rendered Unable to Work by Heinous Gov't Program...

SECRET MULTI-AGENCY FED PROGRAM SILENTLY TORTURES, IMPAIRS, SUBJUGATES, U.S. CITIZENS WITH MICROWAVE/LASER CELL TOWER/SATELLITE RADIATION WEAPONS, FINANCIAL SABOTAGE, AND LOCAL 'COMMUNITY WATCH' VIGILANTISM, SAYS VETERAN JOURNALIST

* Thousands of Americans, deemed to be "dissidents" or undesirables, targeted by Bush legacy program for debilitating, cell tower and satellite microwave/laser assault, held hostage in their own homes to fed-supported vigilante "community policing" stalking units, equipped with warrantless GPS devices, who vandalize and terrorize as local police look the other way.

* "Directed energy weapons" -- a nationwide installation employing cell towers and satellites -- induce weakness, exhaustion, mood changes, pain, head and body aches, physical and neurological impairment, strokes, aneurysms, cancer -- and many victims do not realize what is making them sick.

* Regional Homeland Security- administered "fusion centers" reportedly serve as command centers for covert electromagnetic radiation attacks, pervasive surveillance, financial sabotage of those identified as "dissidents," "trouble-makers" or slandered as threats to society.

* Use of microwave weaponry to torture and impair political opponents recently confirmed by deposed Honduras President Manuel Zelaya.

* Pleas for justice, to local police and FBI, go unanswered -- as do demands for a Department of Justice Civil Rights Division investigation and congressional hearings.

"These are crimes against humanity and the Constitution, being perpetrated under the cover of national security and 'safe streets' by multiple federal and local agencies and commands -- an American genocide hiding in plain sight, enabled by the naivete of those who think 'it can't happen here.'" -- Victor Livingston, former reporter for WTXF-TV Philadelphia, Phila. So, the Democrats are proposing Economic Stimulus Package 2.0, and the only change from the first failure will be less spending? The first Economic Stimulus Package was predicted to fail by knowledgable people and it certainly lived up to the predictions. Since Congressional Democrats are more interested in perpetuating their positions than learning from their mistakes, they will pass more pork barrel spending and call it an Economic Stimulus Package.

The Congressional Republicans, the party of "no", won't do anything to help solve America's problems because they want the Democrats to fail so the Republicans can regain the majority and pass their own pork barrel spending.

Our nation will continue to decline until the American electorate stops voting for incumbents of either party.

I heard 10, I counted, while I was watching the weather map and when I turned back to the football game he was still playing clips.

Does Obama lie? heh heh. Not as long as his mouth doesn't move, right?

Kinda like Kosovo or where ever Hillary came under fire. Right.

I also read, on Fox of course,(the Obama networks won't mention it) where Mr. Lamb of C-Span was pee-od because Obama did not have permission to use C-Span as a political ploy (Lie) in the campaign.

This doesn't bother you Liberal Brownie Obamanuts? Transparency my a**. Every day he sounds more like Bush.

Comrade Obama has done it again. He still doesn't get it or he refuses to accept the truth. History has shown Keynesian economics does not work as effectively as a monetarist policy.

Instead of announcing a few minutes ago that the federal government would offer a broad stimilus package for all small businesses to benefit from, suck as investment tax credits, payroll hiring credits and so on for sor small businesses, he has targeted a very minute green energy industry that only benefits a select few who could hardly be called small businesses.

I suspect Comrade Obama wants the regular Joe not to strive to become an entreprenuer, but instead to be a worker, a slug, a mere widget in the process.

Nothing, nothing Obama has done thus far in his presidency has ever been geared to bettering the individual. But then again, that wouldn't be socialism, now would it?
Fortunately for me and my small business, the Bahamas, and their very attractive corporate tax policy, is a mere few miles away, with a bank for making deposits located in Palm Beach county. As for the rest of my fellow Americans ... sorry dudes, you are on your own.

Do you think this new pork bill will be "temporary, targeted, and timely?"

The new deficit spending will be focused, allegedly, on "small business, infrastructure, 'green' energy and the public sector."

What do we suppose the pieces of the pie will be? How about small business - 10%, infrastruture -10%, so-called green energy -20%, and public sector - 60%. That latter category should provide some phoney money to head off California's bankruptcy; if Paterson folds his cards in New York, then New York should get some (more) bailout, too.

I'm just listening to Obama explain some new pork bill to create clean energy technologies, "jobs that cannot be outsourced." This is another one of his favorite canards, ranking right up there with "shovel ready jobs." He goes on to admit that most of the technology we invented has been migrated overseas...i.e., outsourced for manufacturing. More blather.

But wait, that wouldn't grow the government. Silly me.

A jobs bill? The Democrat's are stark raving lunatics. A jobs bill wont do ANYTHING to curb unemployment... or stave off a looming revolution. The government doesn't have to spend one dime. All they have to do is get back to the protective measures the Founding Fathers put in place to keep jobs here. Reenact trade tariffs, duties, fees and add punitive taxes onto investments and businesses that outsource jobs. It was the Democrat's that enact the H1-B visa, NAFTA, dragged us into the WTO, dismantled trade tariffs and embarked upon this free trade insanity. Bush and his "Neoconservatives" were more like the Democrat's than traditional Republican's here. The result has been a series of disasters that threatens the very existence of this country. There is no time to loose, either. We are on the precipice, falling into an even deeper depression than the one we are in right now. Every mathematical model demonstrates this and there is and will be no excuse for those that pretend otherwise. They either take heed and act or they are completely and totally to blame for the looming disaster. Congress, get our house in order. We need protectionism and we need it NOW.
