Gibbs mocks Sarah Palin's palm-writing at briefing

Updated 5:30 p.m.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs flashed a left palm with notes written on it at the news briefing Tuesday, an apparent mocking reference to former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's use of her hand as notepad during the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville.

Some snow-survival essential foodstuffs and the words "hope" and "change" were written on Gibbs's hand where Palin had written "energy," "tax" and "lift American spirits" on hers.

Palin had mocked President Obama as overly reliant on teleprompters in her speech to Tea Party conventiongoers Saturday, leading her critics to jump when she was revealed to have written notes on her hand and was filmed appearing to glance at the notes during a question and answer session at the conference.

Gibbs began the exchange while discussing some points he wanted to make about bipartisan health-care reform efforts, according to a transcript:

GIBBS: ....oh, I wrote a few things down...

(LAUGHTER)

... I wrote...

(CROSSTALK)

GIBBS: I wrote -- I wrote "eggs, milk and bread."

(LAUGHTER)

But I crossed out bread, just so I can make pancakes for Ethan if it snows. And then I wrote down "hope and change," just in case I forgot...

QUESTION: Oh, my Lord.

GIBBS: ... that.

(LAUGHTER)

QUESTION: Is that when he was talking?

It came in handy (OFF-MIKE)

GIBBS: Pretty good. Pretty good.

(CROSSTALK)

(LAUGHTER)

It's funny to hear/read Palin supporters try to defend the use of her hand with "duh... but the president uses a teleprompter."

Yes, he does. But it was Palin that kept driving that point into the ground.

Guess what; all kinds of people use a teleprompter. All kinds of people use notes. It's not a bad thing to use notes.

It is hypocritical, however, that Palin supporters join in her chorus about the ad-hominem approach to Obama's teleprompter, but then use that same point to defend her.

People that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

You know, I don't think it would have been as big a deal if Sarah hadn't latched on to Obama's teleprompter as a talking point.

Maybe if she had layed off the teleprompter from the beginning, she would have saved herself the embarassment of having to use her hand for crib notes.

All politicians use notes, queues etc., because it's such a pressure to talk to a mass audience.

Palin's learning this the hard way.

One thing's for sure, Palin will never be able to bring up teleprompters again, for everytime she does, the response will be the same; TALK TO THE HAND, Sarah...

A lot of the posters here should do some fact checking before they post.
1. Sarah Palin had just finished castigating the president for using a teleprompter, yet she read her pre-written speech from paper.
2. When she was caught reading the notes from her hand, it was during a supposed Q&A session after the speech. The fact that she had the answers written on her hand indicated she had been fed the questions prior to the session and her speech so it wasn't the kind of session they were making it out to be. It was scripted, not off the cuff. The president just did a televised session with the republicans in which he gave excellent answers to their questions, without a teleprompter and definitely not scripted! She indicates her lack of intelligence and ability when she is incapable of answering questions without being fed them in advance.
As far a s Gibbs emulating what Palin did, it was funny and the entire press corps was laughing too. For someone to lambaste him for "writing on his hand while he is being paid by taxpayers" demonstrates that writer is a sorehead with no sense of humor. You ought to try laughing every once in a while. It's good for your health.

Wow. A premeditated lame joke about Sarah Palin from the Presidential spokesman? What a stupid fight to pick. The FIRST thing people will think of is the fact that Obama can't order at a Wendy's drive through without a teleprompter.

The second thing they'll think about is the fact that Sarah Palin is in this guy's head so much now that he's sending people out to attack her.

Very unpresidential. Very Obama.

Posted by: IUT1 | February 10, 2010 2:13 PM | Report abuse

So Sarah Palin had notes? No one complains about a politician using some notes -- they have note pads at the presidential debates and use them. The issue is that this supposedly brilliant president needs a teleprompter to make 'casual' remarks because if he speaks off the cuff he says absurd things like doctors cut off patient's feet for extra cash.

How about this: the next time Barack Obama has to speak, he can have five words of notes -- he can use an index card if he doesn't want to get his hands dirty. Then we can see who doesn't have the experience and knowledge to be president.

Who cares whether you write them on notecards, your hand, or have them on a teleprompter? Gibbs is the most ridiculous spokesperson for a President I have ever seen......He cannot keep his foot out of his mouth, and his ridicule is not in good taste.....He is avoiding speaking on real issues, by spending his time elaborating on ridiculous ones.

Gibbs reflects the administration he represents: arrogant, condescending and obnoxious. His sarcastic attitude is extremely annoying, and this is not the first time he has displayed it.

I don't particularly like Sarah Palin, but she only wrote three or four words on her palm and made her own comments. Obama reads the words of his speechwriters from a teleprompter.

Gibbs needs to look at footage of the late Tony Snow to learn how a classy, accomplished press secretary handles himself.

While Obama is trying desperately to right his ship and win back independents, his man, Gibbs proceeds to reverse any momentum. Gibbs, did it, for his own amusement and ego. Playing to the Washington crowd, just antagonizes all of those outside of Washington who Obama desperately wants to recapture. While Gibbs stunt will get knowing smirks on the networks, MSNBC, NYT and the Post. The media which the public tunes to will be trashing Gibbs and by extension Obama. Talk radio and Fox which dominates between the coasts and has won over independents by a wide margin will just use Gibbs to feed the narrative that Washington and by extension the Dems just does not understand the rest of the country. This little stunt just undid all of the bipartisan high ground that Obama was trying to gain. The politics of this move is stunningly tone deaf.

More so by the fact she is presenting herself as a spearhead of this movement. Not be able to convey this spirit without the reminder of (Oh what the hell am I here for? oh ya I wrote it down on my hand) of a crib note it’s obvious that there is no hart and sol in her speech, she is just their to deliver a product (Sara Palin) to who ever will pull out there wallets. –Bomb Iran? I would like to see these two square off in a unscripted debate with questions thrown to them that neither had prior knowledge of. Sarah's followers hate blacks, and The Messiah followers don't hate whites? Hmm am I missing something. Just a thought, when being black starts to fail the Messiah, will he then become white, the other half of his lineage to curry favor? Just a thought, everyone ponder on that one. Such vitriol toward both parties. I have a theory females who dislike Sarah come from a home where their mother was the dominant domineering factor and the daughter could do nothing right. Odds are that Palin will never win the Republican nomination for President, so it is sort of silly to watch how much effort the Democrat Party expends in attacking her. The one thing she will contribute to the GOP in 2012 is in bringing in boatloads of $$$$$ for the campaign and ironically, every attack from the left only increases her ability to get the party faithful to open their wallets.

the most effective attack for the left would be simply to ignore her, but I think they are icapable of doing that.

Why should we be surprised? Obama was always talking nice during the campaign while his campaign and surrogates smeared Hillary with the filthiest most sexist attacks. Just more of the same old dirty politics from Obama!!!

Of course, they all need teleprompters to get six words out, let alone speak for almost an hour without using the errrr and uhhh words every phrase. I guess they just can't understand how a real person can talk without a pupiteer pulling the strings. Poor woodenheads.

How about basing your arguments on actual facts and evidence, and not dimly-related hypotheticals? For starters, Joe Biden IS the actual Vice President of the United States! HOPE you find a job in 2012, Mr. Gibbs!"

Newsflash, Sarah2012: If being opposed to Palin's being president makes me an elitist, then for heaven's sake, call me an elitist and color me guilty. Never mind that I'm a mild-mannered centrist leading a quiet life rural red-state West Virginia. Nooo! But since I think Palin is egregiously underqualified to be POTUS, that makes me an elitist. Do I actually think I'm smarter than Palin? Yes (and for reasons that needn't detain us), but I'll admit that being smarter than she hardly places me in distinguished or even elitist company. And I don't live in a big city, or sip lattes, or drive a Beamer. Do I think she's an idiot like some ill-mannered people here do? No. She's sure smart enough to know how to push your buttons and pry open your wallet.

But here's a subtle distinction that actually takes functioning neurons to ponder, so wrap your mind around this: opposition to her being president doesn't equate to opposition to her being a candidate. Probably even more Democrats than Republicans want her to be the 2012 Republican nominee, which would make Obama's re-election a lock. It's the REPUBLICANS who "fear" Palin, because they know that her candidacy will be a sure recipe for defeat. The Dems can hardly wait. Do you think she could survive the scrutiny of a two-year-long campaign? She crashed and burned in two months in 2008. So, no, Palin is not a threat. You think that others' negative judgment of her proceeds from fear. Hardly; it proceeds from rational thinking.

Sorry, Sarah2012, your faux populism is probably the result of some kind of cerebral cortex envy. My genuine belief in America FIRST includes a belief that snarky soundbites and glib folksiness don't substitute for having a real knowledge base and a deep grasp of the issues.

But we can agree on this: Gibbs is kinda goofy.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Excuse me dottydodo, Sarah Palin was paid $100,000 to give a speech at a convention and used her time to bash the President of the United States. As a failed candidate for Vice President of the United States and a leader in the Republican party and with the teabaggers, she is not a private citizen. She has put herself in the public eye. She has been trying to make herself relevant and as such she has opened herself up to what ever criticism that comes her way. If she wants to be treated as a private citizen then perhaps she shouldn't use a public forum to bash the President of the United States while looking like a teenager cheating on a test with the answers written on her palm.

If she can't take the heat she shouldn't dish it out. And by the way neither should you Obama haters. For the next several hours, they discussed Marxism.

I have been thinking of Obama using a teleprompter speaking to 6th. graders. (And Gibbs makes fun of Palin having four words in her hand for a 40 minute speech plus questions).

Sitting inside waiting for the snow to melt(not in DC) I went to u-tube to watch some of Obama's non-teleprompter speeches.(I watch debates but not political speeches),. Thank God he used a teleprompter. Without it he sounds like Mel Tillis, Like in the Debates. Stammering and stuttering. "ers", "ahs", "ohs", "uhs", or "ums". One speech he got so lost he wasn't coherent for over a minute. He even had to say "wait a minute, wait a minute" when the crowd got restive. I'll bet those fools still voted for him.

Can you imagine the vocabulary those 6th. graders would have come out of that speech with if he hadn't used his teleprompter.

Still worries me your POTUS has to use a teleprompter to speak to 6th. graders.

Exactly what has obama done differently?!?

So the WP, elitist posters to this article and the White House spokesgoof are smarter than the rest of us. You need to make fun of Sarah Palin because you are threatened by her and more importantly, by her genuine belief in America FIRST and the millions of Americans that feel the same way. HOPE you find a job in 2012, Mr. Gibbs!

"Hope" and "Change" are appropriately compared to Palin's hand notes, given that they turned out to be merely catchy memes when Obama used them so disingenuously without any real plan to back them up.

Face it TEABAG IDIOTS.

Sarah Palin is incapable of READING anything from a teleprompter except the word BETCHA

She can only read one word at a time. It is sad she has to WRITE DOWN WHAT SHE STANDS FOR.
If she stands for anything other than money and bashing others (except of course RUSH (DRUG ABUSER, ILLEGAL DRUG IMPORTER) LIMBAUGH) then she needs to begin to show it.
Writing her GOALS FOR THE COUNTRY AND THE WORLD ARE HER HAND shows exactly how intelligent she is NOT>

Why does she hate this country so much?

Posted by: dwdave67 | February 9, 2010 7:42 PM | Report abuse

Yeah -- she deserved that and far worse just for saying the phrae "hopey changey thingy." While her immediate audeince had the collective IQ of an artichoke she was probably aware after a few years of doing everything she can think of short of releasing a porn tape to keep herself in the headlines that her "stupey speechy thingy" was going to be in the news. What kind of twit says something like that in what is supposed to be a serious speech, and one that is paying more than the average high school principal makes for a year of actual work? More than the average fireman or cop or soldier makes in two years of actual work? So yeah -- if she wants to play on the big stage she is going to get mocked. She is like a 12 year old who thinks they can play in the NFL.

To Joe4 -- yeah, I've seen Obama at work without a teleprompter. The best recent example was when he met with the House Republicans at their retreat in Baltimore. It's still available online, if you have any interest in knowing what you're talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5vOMIN673A

It's not well-miked for the first couple of minutes, but it's fine after that. And it's worth watching. If you're going to criticize Obama, fine. But at least open your eyes a bit -- you just make yourself sound stupid when you question his ability to speak without a teleprompter.

Gibbs attack was childish. Those sorts of attacks should be relegated to lower level staff or non paid surrogates. Palin has no realistic chance of being elected, there's no time to waste with an official from the WH mocking her obvious ineptitude.

Palin had months to prepare for the speech, with nothing else of any importance to take up her time, and she still needed crib notes on her hand like an eighth grader.
What a dunce.

The problem is they were for a scripted interview. She had written notes on paper/cards for the speech which in itself is hypocritcal to slam Obama use of teleprompter for speechs. When she has used it many, many, many times...!!!

Most of you people miss the underlying detail of this entire story.
First, Sarah Palin is not Presidential material...even in dog years. She is a mummalard who has no concept of anything real, other than conservative catch phrases and pandering nonsense that she'll never follow through with.
Moreover, at this point in time, if she runs for President in '12, Obama will be re-elected without worry.

Second, when the White House Press Secretary takes time out of his conference to mock a civilian based on political affiliation, the time for talking is near over.
The US Congress will be stalemated until November, and maybe after elections take place...it will get worse depending on the outcome.
And what happens when people can't solve their differences through honest and respectful communication?
Violence ensues.

End point, the polar opposite motivations of the Democratic and Republican party cannot be rectified...and will not be as neither party attempts to speak or act respectfully towards the other. Politics in DC has become stagnant and will not change anytime soon.
Thus, the only legislations which will have any chance of passage are those which will be backdoored, forcefed and against the will of at least half of the populace.
Then, what happens next is in no one's interest.

Chickenhawk Barry Obama never spent a day in the military or has a family member who did, so of course Barry pronounces it 'corpseman' just like it says on the teleprompter.

And the same thing goes for the next five in line after Barry in the presidential line of succession from Biden down through Geithner. None of them served.

In fact the only one of Barry's first 10 successors who served in the military was the secretary of defense, Bob Gates.

Earth to all you Conservatives who seem to think that Obama must be something less than human because he uses a teleprompter to give great speeches -- Palin, Reagan and virtually all presidents and politicians use teleprompters. And in case you haven't noticed, Obama spends exponentially more time speaking off the cuff and taking questions - not only from the press, but from the opposition as well - than Bush ever did, and he did whip McCain in all of their debates with no teleprompter. So lay off the teleprompter argument, it's extremely lame (to be polite) and proves nothing.

As to whether Gibbs should be mocking her or not I'm not sure, but it's nothing to get bent out of shape over. Palin publicly made an ass out of herself while trying to criticize this administration. Gibbs is human, he can crack a joke about it if he wants to. It's worthy of ridicule.

And to the teapartiers who are getting their panties all up in a bunch over this, calling it immature; I'm pretty sure you're the same ones who are constantly typing names like "Obozo" or "Libtard". Every time I see that I feel like I'm talking to a 4 year old. I also feel like I'm listening to a 4 year old when I hear "hopey changey".

I don't particularly care that Sarah Palin wrote notes on her hand. She's charismatic enough for the conservative base, but she's definitely new to being the leader of a major movement. I'm sure she just needed the extra help. What I don't like about her crib notes is the fact that she criticized President Obama for using a teleprompter. Sorry, but since when did Obama go down in history as being the first president to ever use a teleprompter when he speaks? She should be called out for the political double standards she sets. Sarah Palin is just going to have to get used to the critcism and the jokes about her. She asked for them, when she said 'Yes' to John McCain. She asked for them again when she refused to go back to her blissfully perfect life in Alaska.

I'm beginning to wonder about little Piper's education. Is Sarah taking Piper out of school just to show the world what a 'great mommy' she is? I saw a news report of how many 'appearances' SP has across the country in the next few months. Will Piper be at all of them, too? Even if the girl is now home schooled, Sarah is purposely too busy to be the one fostering Piper's education.

Why was she forced to pay back travel expenses? What inspired her husband to become a member of the AIP? Why did Alaska have the highest incident of rape of woman and children? And as governor what was the controvery with the rape kits? Was it the morning after pill in the kit? Why did she have to pay back taxes? What was the true ruling against her concerning trooper gate? Not sure what republicans want to call Obama. One minute you imply that he cant articulate himself without a teleprompter, the next minute you call him an elitist, implying he is too intellectual to relate to us regular "real Americans". Which is he to republicans, too smart or too dumb?
I guess it depends on what works for republicans that day.

thehamptons1

What should Obama be fired for, being elected? Lord knows you republicans have not allowed him to do anything worth criticizing policy wise. He will go down as the only president that congress did not allow to do anything. He cant even put together a full staff, you reject anyone he tries to nominate. But what republicans fail to realize is voters see you for what you are doing. You think you can come back election time and talk about what Obama did not do when we all see you doing everything in your power to prevent him from doing anything? But in the end it will reflect on republicans much worse than Obama. Think about 1990's when we think of the clinton era, even with his scandals who gets credit for doing a good job, clinton or the republican congress during his era? He does. If you republicans dont win back seats in 2010 or the white house in 2012 you will probably try to start another civil war.

If you think Obama needs a teleprompter, might I remind you that he held a 45 min Q&A session with a roomful of the GOP and schooled them badly...so much that an unnamed GOP admitted it was a bad idea. You know how bad it was? Everyone was covering, including Fox, but it was Fox who cut away midway realizing how bad it was for them to allow critics to slam Obama. So yeah, he needs a teleprompter - maybe that Palin should get one given performance level.

Posted by: first2summit | February 9, 2010 6:04 PM | Report abuse

Maybe Mr. Gibbs should stick to his own material (or at least have the courtesy to credit the material). He should know that, since both of his bosses understand plagiarism only too well. Is it just me, or is this guy one of THE smuggest individuals ever....? Mr. Obama should really look to his own glass house when it comes to creating a civil discourse and clean up the West Wing (just a bit)…

She didn't even read her speech to the Tea Party convention [or whatever they called it.] very well. You watched her give the speech and it was like watching a bobble head with the number of times she looked at the lectern. She should have used a teleprompter. But I guess that would have been more awkward than writing on her palm for the Q&A. Good thing she got the questions ahead of time.

Run Sarah run! I know why she hasn't ruled out running in 2012. She didn't have the answer written on her hand.

U.S. forces are being withdrawn from Iraq.

Mr. Obama is taking the fight to the terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Mr. Obama has brought the economy back from the brink of a second great depression.

GTMO will close ASAP.

Terrorists languishing in GTMO for years will finally be tried and punished.

A health care reform bill is on the horizon.

My federal taxes were reduced.

Gas prices are stable.

Actually the "hopey changey thingy" is going pretty well. Thanks for asking.

This is bush league by Gibbs. Palin deserves ridicule as much as anyone on the political scene. But this was just meanspirited. How Gibbs is the spokesperson for the White House is a mystery to me.

In fact, Obama's entire political operation has served him poorly this past year. The truth is that the administration has skillfully guided the economy back to growth, has appropriately managed our foreign policy, and designed and almost passed a centrist health care bill -- yes, Republicans, it's composed virtually entirely of things your party claims to support, no matter what Fox tells you. Yet the administration has completely bungled the political aspects of governing. I hope Obama will consider shuffling his political team, because an exceptional policy team means little if the policies can't make it through Congress.

The handpromter is a big deal because it took all of 35 seconds by the interviewer to ask the question. It took fourteen seconds into the answer when asked about the top 3 three things that has to be done for the country. She goes to her handpromoter in fourteen seconds for the three things, the fourth answer (budget) was crossed out. Not only did she know the question before hand but in order to give the "three things" answer she had to look at the three things on her handprompter within fourteen seconds of her answer. Let me be clear, Palin doesn't have what it takes for this "hopey changey thing"

I find this childishness from Gibbs, and this is not the first time he ridicules those he does not like, to be a poor example of a Presidential spokesman that is flashed around the world when these gaggles are televised on TV. It shows that this President allows for childish recriminations and demeaning actions against those of another political party or anyone who does not agree with his agenda. I don't care how much anyone hates Sarah Palin, these actions are beneath what should be emanating from the White House.
By the way, did I miss where he ridiculed the President, his boss, for calling 3 times no less one of those he commands in the military a "corpse-man"?

Answer these questions for me. Why five schools in six years? Does this provide clues as to why she quit as governor? What was the budget like when she was mayor of Wasilla? Why did she take per diem while staying at home instead of the state capitol? Although it may not be a crime in politically corrupted Alaska, do you think it is unethical? Why was she forced to pay back travel expenses? What inspired her husband to become a member of the AIP? Why did Alaska have the highest incident of rape of woman and children? And as governor what was the controvery with the rape kits? Was it the morning after pill in the kit? Why did she have to pay back taxes? What was the true ruling against her concerning trooper gate? Well let her answer those questions for a start and we'll judge for ourselves whether she should have been vetted instead of you judging for us.

So two seconds after the President walks out of the room asking for bipartisanship this creep Gibbs lets loose with the sneering mockery that is the total substance of the liberal political world as it exists today. What a loser. Obama can't say his name without a teleprompter. If they limited Obama to hand crib sheets, at least we wouldn't have to listen to his constant BORING, BORING, BORING diarrhea of the mouth, because he wouldn't know what to say. It is no mystery why those pesky Republicans don't let the Democrats have their way, which is what The One means by bipartisanship. Rahm and his Chicago crooks treat them like crap and the American people have had their fill of the Chicago way. That is why Nancy will have to move to a much, much smaller office at the end of this year.

Gibbs' actions are ridiculous. He should be dismissed. The White House should simply let Palin fail by making herself look ignorant and amateurish, and refuse to comment on her antics. Gibbs acknowledging and making fun of her like this only lends her credence and fuels the tea partiers' anger. Now she will do the "poor me - the liberals are so mean to me" routine. Giving her the opportunity to earn sympathy was a bad move. I can't believe the White House press secretary thought that was a good idea. To quelch the fire of criticism that this will cause, the president should dismiss him. Democrats need to take the high ground, with professionalism, intelligence and dedication to the issues, and not use childish tactics.

Palin spoke before a logging conference in Redding, a town of 90,000 about 160 miles north of the state capital. Obama must not be smart enough to use a few words as reminders. He apparently requires many others to write his speaches (even when small and casual) and a teleprompter to deliver. He can't even follow a printed copy. Palin delivered a one hour speach and seemed to only refer to her "notes" early in the Q&A stage (specifically, the "answer the question" reminder). The fact that Gibbs resorted to mocking her, shows how deep in the ditch this administration finds itself.

I can't wait to see the SNL skit when Palin puts the lengthly teleprompter feed around her body and down the stage to draw a real comparison. Use at least a few hundreds of the trillions of taxpayer money to generate JOBS instead of generating teleprompters of excuses for why YOU can't get a damned thing done. The Palin Palmapromter was hilarious. The whole hopey changy thing was pretty funny too. However, her interview with Chris Wallace the next day was just plain scary. When he asked her if she thought Obama would cynically go to war with Iran to win reelection (sound familiar) she really seemed to be saying that not only would he win if he did but that it would be the right thing to do for the country! IMO that takes her movie out the comedy film category straight into horror.

The Democrats need to really make more political hay out of the fact that Republicans honestly do want to privatize or get rid of Social Security and Medicare.

In every single debate and ad' Democrat candidates should challenge their opponents with that.

If you ask almost any Republican congressional member whether they want to get rid of those two programs they will inevitably say 'they're both going bankrupt anyway!'

And then if you ask the Republicans to offer ideas to save Social Security and Medicare they will either say that 'we should get rid of them' or 'privatize them' which is the same as dumping them.

Just because they won't succeed in their efforts to kill SS and Medicare is no reason to give them a pass for having such universally unpopular ideas.

You're doing a great job Rahm...!

that drooling idiot Glenn Beck was for them too:

I mean, Palin deserves to be laughed at for the notes on the palm. It was tacky of her. But for Gibbs to even bother to comment on this? Why does Palin even matter to the White House? Why do they even care about her?

And since when did the job of press secretary to the President of the United States devolve into court jester? One would think that childish pranks and insults would be below the White House. Leave them to the left-wing comedians and bloggers. But, nope, this White House apparently has to weigh in with nasty jokes.

And this on the same day that Obama is calling for more bi-partisan cooperation, too. Evidently Gibbs forgot to write down on his hand, "Be nicer to the right wing during press conferences."

The blogosphere nowadays is replete with the idiotic, imbecilic ramblings of hack GOP blowhards who know nothing about facts and are experts only in the art of obfuscation.

Here's a prediction for this year:

. The GOP will remain intact in their stubborn effort to NOT work with President Obama on health care and it will backfire on them just like their failed attempt to stare Clinton down in the mid 90s which led to the government shutdown.

. President Obama's popularity will enjoy a steady increase, particularly amongst independent voters, and this will keep the Dems in control of both houses of Congress in 2010 and pave the way for another Obama landslide victory in 2012.

Can't the GOP see that it's only a matter of time before their party becomes synonymous with the term, "whig?"

I'm a proud independent voter and I see no future in the GOP. Their conduct during the last year (not to mention the previous 8 years) is nothing short of deplorable.

Oh yeah, by the way, Sarah palin is still a joke.

You really have to screw up for an incumbent not to be re-elected and he hasn't screwed up, he's fixed a lot of problems. Now whether he will keep Gibbs is a different story, lots of people jump off after the first term. But sorry...just not enough racist left in the US to put Palin in office and Romney flip flops too much, so he has no spine. But Speaker Newt Gingrich is brilliant, if he runs Obama could be in trouble, but everybody else in the republican party right now is JV and can't beat an incumbent...won't happen, I guarantee it unless something goes horribly wrong and Obama plays it too close to the vest for this to happen.

Typical coming from the spokesman of a totally failed administration who will be ejected in 2012.

Sara Palin is a private citizen with almost zero impact on the problems facing this nation. Don't Obama's staff people have bigger fish to fry?

Campaigning must be easier than governing.

That was kind of a dumb thing to do Mr. Gibbs, unless of course the plan is to take note of Palin in order to help sow confusion in Republican ranks. I'm afraid it simply adds to the "elite snobbism" view of many.

I thought it was silly and it was probably a mistake since Sarah Barracuda, the pit bull with lipstick is so good a whinning and playing the victim card. Poor little Sarah being picked on again by those big bad bullies at the White House again.

Gibbs and Obama make a good team. Both are equally arrogant, condescending, childish, classless and incompetent.

I'm surprised Gibbs hasn't been fired yet. Then again, if he has something on Obama...some secret that BHO doesn't want to get out...hmmmm...

The only thing sadder than Palin's gross incompetence to lead this nation is the blind belief of her shee...followers that she could.

Palin’s political perspective or, to employ her populist parlance, presumably “that fear-y, status quo thingy,” seems to be working out just fine, at least for her. This self-centered strategy has proven extremely effective in the short-term, upping Ms. Palin’s media profile while lining her pockets at the same time.

However, appealing to people’s irrational fear of change generally brings out the worst in them (a fact demonstrated by the many misguided and offensive slogans spouted at tea party events last summer).

And assuring voters that we can continue consuming resources at or above our current rate is as reckless as it is dishonest. To use a tired metaphor, at a time when Americans must get leaner, Palin is scoring political points by telling us we can eat ice cream every night for dinner and never gain weight or run out of milk.

oh how it must hurt when your emperor is found to not be wearing any clothes. Sara Palin is a great example of someone wanting to acheive without putting in the effort to do so. It would be refreshing to actually see some Republicans put forth some ideas rather than complaining about Obama and his administration. If you don't like it, come up with something better or just shut up.

When Obama loses his bid for a 2nd term (get real liberals - its over), Robert Gibbs will be quickly forgotten and will be forced to write a "Tell All book" about what a shady egomaniac his former boss was.

Shady egomaniac? Don't you mean "uppity N word"?

This is nothing compared to what's going to happen this Saturday night at 11:30.

I can just see it next year at the Emmys -Tina Fey with an acceptance speech written on her palm. LMFAO

Hey crybabies,

He is not going to be fired. His act deserves praise.

Ask yourselves - do you really want to vote for someone who had to write on her palm: 'energy', 'tax' & 'lift American spirits'? Are these concepts that difficult that they meritted crib-notes, right on the palm?

Less pridefulness about your stupidity would be appropriate.

What an arrogant, childish, sleezy act by someone in the White House. One would like to think we had people in high positions in our government that are above the fray. This demeans the building Gibbs works in.

He should be fired, but for that matter so should his boss.

I'm a Liberal Democrat, but Robert Gibbs
is kind of creepy in a snobbish, sarcastic way. Why does he have to be the mouth of
my Party in the White House? No wonder
Republicans are so mad at us. He would
drive Mother Teresa to an act of Assault
and Battery.
