Scott Brown approves of Jon Hamm SNL sketch
In case you missed it, "Saturday Night Live" took on Massachusetts Sen.-elect Scott Brown this weekend, depicting the one-time Cosmo model as an irresistible flirt. (Mad Men star Jon Hamm played the senator.) One by one, Democratic lawmakers are driven to distracted by fantasies about the new Republican.
Brown himself approved: "Thank goodness I like a good laugh," he told National Review Online. He said Hamm "did a great job."

Jon Hamm was dead on as Scott Brown and I hope Hamm returns from time to time to do an encore. I loved the opening skit too on the State of the Union, combining it with jabs at Martha Coakley (Brown's opponent)as running "the most incompetent campaign in the history of the nation." The best line from Fred Armisen as President Obama: "Martha Coakley couldn't beat Dick Cheney for mayor in Berkeley." There was even mention of Curt Schilling and the Red Sox gaffe. To this Bay Stater it was absolutely hillarious. Well done.

Until more is known about Senator elect Brown, what else could SNL use besides the Cosmo sexy thing?
Would parading his family around, singing and passing a basketball to his daughter while roaming the halls, or while discussing politics with McCain pausing to ask if he has an available son --because Brown has two available daughters...would not be funny.
It was a funny skit!

Scott Brown is well aware of what a populist great white hope would say about the skit, which is not necessarily what he really thinks. Still, he probably does think it was funny, and the joke will only endear him further to the voters who think he will change the direction of American politics for the better single-handed.
Republicans don't think that way. They think of Brown not only as a symbol, which he undoubtedly is, but as the vote that allows them to make sure nothing gets done as long as Obama is in power. History will decide if that was a good idea. At a time when action must be taken to arrest decline, and when the U.S. cannot afford to sit still in order to appease a stubborn minority, I doubt it.
