Ford decides not to run for N.Y. Senate seat, source says

By Perry Bacon Jr.
Former congressman Harold Ford has decided against challenging incumbent Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), a source close to Ford said Monday, ending a potential primary fight that Democrats in Washington had discouraged.

Ford had moved to New York after a failed Senate run in 2006 in his home state of Tennessee, and he had flirted for more than a month with running against Gillibrand, who was appointed last year to replace Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. His decision could ease the path to victory this fall for Gillibrand, who was a popular House member from Upstate New York but was considered vulnerable to a strong challenger because she is not well known in much of the state.

Ford had spent the last month meeting with activists and potential supporters in the state, but he had drawn little support from key political figures in New York or in the Obama administration, which had said it still backed Gillibrand.

The source close to Ford, who requested anonymity, did not lay out the reasons why the former congressman chose not to run.

Ford served five terms in the House, in the Memphis-area seat that his father had held before him. In 2006, he gave up the House to run for the Senate, but lost to Republican Bob Corker. Ford was credited with running a strong campaign in the traditionally Republican state, but he struggled with gaffes in his month-long exploration in New York.

Democrats loss = Republican gain.
Ford is a Truman, JFK Democrat.
Seems the Democrat part is destroying itself as this guy is more qualified to be president than what we have now.

This isn't exactly the time one wants to be running for political office straight from a stint with a bailed out big bank (Merrill Lynch).

I took the time to actually read the letter mr. Ford wrote to the NY times... my take and i am a person who prides themselves on investigating the actual facts, then supporting or not the idea and the actions of representatives, not by thier political party affiliation but by thier actual choice when voting or in the process of actually making a bill for vote which is quite clearly broken and should not be a secret endeavor. .. When one compares thier rhetoric which often especially in the bush Cheney years seemed most often to be the exact opposite or propaganda or smoke to try and hide thier actual actions. if a representatives are ashamed of what they are they should not be pretending to represent people when they are instead apparently for sale and bought out by the highest bidder. I admire mr. ford as the man and the stands until recently. I maybe mistaken but i understood him to be after working in the financial area of private business to have a new master, one that has nothing to do with black or white or religion. he and others are maybe slaves of money not human beings enslaved by thier own greed and aspirations. THE WORD HE WROTE TODAY ARE THE HARROLD FORD I USED TO KNOW.. i hope they were sincere and not just saying what he and the democratic party have to know is what the public wants .. and expects to hear. I HOPE HE'S BACK AND I HOPE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY TAKES THE WORDS HE PUT IN WRITING TO HEART AND CHANGE AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY CONTINUES TO UNDERSTAND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE REJECTED THEM AND THIER IDEAS SO THEY NEED TO CONFORM MORE TO THE MIDDLE OR CEASE TO BE RELEVANT... OH I USE CAPITALS FOR IMPORTANT THINGS... NOT TO TELL YOU I'M SHOUTING CALL ME OLD FASHIONED, ( you should know i get a mind picture of Andy Rooney who i enjoy watching and listening to here) .they may or may not have had good intentions but thier actual fruit and bills are more of the same instead of change. ... perhaps if mr. Ford is sincere he will become a member of the we the people party and represent constituents instead of money... money has no conscience or soul ...... human beings do that why you want human beings to have votes and free speech rights more so than money or business who are already represented as individuals in the current system or are foreign entities which have no right to representation in our government.. most Americans i think realize there are people taking double or triple rights they have no guarantee 2 in the constitution unless the federalist judges choose to be traitors, yes this is the word history uses for people who actually sell out thier country for money . I would gently and peacefully remind them the supreme court always has and will bow to the court of public perception, and opinion . If they don't judge for ... the people of America they cannot expect to stay in thier position.

I wonder if there's still time to meet the residency requirements in Indiana. See if Ford shows up for a police helitour of Indianapolis in the next few days....

Hey, I dig Ford but on the two latest editions of Meet the Press, his views have gone left and even far left to some extent. His was a Blue Dog Dem and thought he had great ideas, but he jumped on the Obama bandwagon which rides out to the far left and suddenly realized he'd be taking back to back losses, first, for the Senate seat a couple of years ago and now the NY seat. Back to Back losses would not only mean the end of his Political career but his value as a lobbyist. No power, no money, no respect..Isnt that something Notorious Big said.??

*to the tune of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing*

Hark! See Harold Ford angling
for to be the New York king.
Kirsten Gillibrand shows she's tough.
Tells Sir Harold "Get off my turf."

So we watch poor Harold's demise
caused by carpetbagging New York ties.
As his hopes go down in flame,
it's Tennessee that is to blame.
If New York is not your home,
closer to Memphis you should roam.
