House Rules Committee unveils health-care package

The House Rules Committee on Thursday posted the final element of President Obama's health-care package, clearing the way for a climactic vote in the House, which will most likely occur on Sunday. The Congressional Budget Office reported earlier in the day that the legislation would provide health insurance coverage for 32 million people by 2016 at a 10- year cost of $940 billion. The CBO also said it would reduce the federal deficit by $138 billion over 10 years. The measure can be downloaded here (PDF). Jeffrey Young of The Hill reported on Twitter that House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said the House will convene Sunday at 1 p.m., with a vote on the House package starting no earlier than 2 p.m. House Democrats defeated a Republican resolution that would have forced a separate up-or-down vote on the Senate health-reform bill.

js_edit, only a fool (or an Obama's operative) parrots the propaganda or Obama and his comrades regarding insurance companies.

Demonizing and vilifying the insurance industry was part of the Obamacare scam from the beginning (more than 3 years ago).

As per the 2007 book written by Robert Creamer, a CONVICTED FELON and Obama’s ACORN associate, the main objective of Obamacare is only to increase the power of "progressives" (Marxists) through the “democratization of wealth” (socialism/Marxim) as per the teachings of Saul Alinsky.

Creamer wrote in his 2007 book:

* “We must create a national consensus that the health care system is in crisis.”
* “Our messaging program over the next two years should focus heavily on reducing the credibility of the health insurance industry....”
* “We need not agree in advance on the components of a plan, but we must foster a process that can ultimately yield consensus.”

As per those guidelines, Obama and his comrades planned to demonize the insurance industry and to agree to ANYTHING to get their scam approved. They don't care about the "components of the plan." All they want is CONTROL over our health care and our lives.

They want complete power as that of the Marxist thugs who are destroying Latin America. They plan to increase their power through the “democratization of wealth” (socialism/Marxism).

jeepwarrior3, from the beginning (more than 3 years ago), Obama and his comrades planned to force us to swallow socialized medicine through lies, manipulation, intimidation, coercion, BRIBES and fraud.

In their Orwellian doublespeak, they called it "public option," but any adult understands that it's neither "public" nor an "option." It's government CONTROL at the expense of the individual.

As we can see, the strategies of the Chicago Marxist thugs -- based on lies, manipulation, intimidation, coercion, BRIBES and fraud -- are identical to the strategies of Marxist thugs who are destroying Latin America (Chavez, Ortega, Morales, Correa, etc.).

While not labeled as such, surely the "Best Practices" boards/panels will be fantastic ways to reduce costs. If doctors don't treat a patient as the government deems proper, those docs won't get paid and will be subject to malpractice liability. And the government can deem a treatment too expensive relative to its therapeutic benefits. Commoditizing other industries has worked... why not health care?!?!

Look people, get a sense of proportion about this "Republicans did it too argument" regarding "deeming". I have given a let-up to someone in line before and nobody cared. But if I'd have let up 100, I'd never get out alive.

It passed the house, it passed the senate, now it is deemed a bill - sounds reasonable to me.

Republicans have not only used deemed and passed more often than democrats, their percentage of deemed passed is a higher percentage of their overall legislation during Republican terms than Democrats.

If the media does its job and publicizes what is in the bill, Republicans may not get back into power for another 10 years or so...And that is a good thing.

Posted by: SCVoter | March 18, 2010 4:53 PM | Report abuse

As in most things nowadays we really don't know what's in it. The details. Did you read every word of legalize when you bought your house? When you opened your checking account? Signed on to a web page today? Or, what's in your toothpaste? Do you know? No, you probably don't know if you are like most of us. You just imagine it will be okay if you say "yes, what the heck I'll do it." How on earth are we supposed to know every detail and implication of this health care bill? It's impossible, I figure. So yeah, I'll do it and sign on. It sounds good. I believe that everyone should have access to health care and that we need to control costs. I also like it that I can't be dropped from my existing insurance plan if I grow another big toe. (Do we know what's in our drinking water?) This is our only shot I figure, because if this bill goes down the drain we won't have another plan anytime soon. Look what we have been going through to get this one done. I also believe the insurance companies are poised to jack our rates if this bill fails. Everyone seems to assume if this bill falls we will be back to the status quo. I don't believe that. Med bills are rising. Quickly. I also don't have much faith in Republications when they resume command to do much else other than lower taxes for the wealthy and corporations and drill for oil. The health care bill is a crap shoot, I know. But it's something to impede the tidal wave of increasing health costs ahead.

I have lived in Europe for a number of years and from here, where universal health insurance and superb care is the norm, it is hard to see why anyone would not want to begin - if even imperfectly - to change the US system. Bad care and costs will eat up the economy ever more rapidly and, most importantly costs lives. Something has to shake up the system. Why not this? If not now, when?

Obama ran for president promising he would insure the uninsured. He won the election in a landslide over the best the GOP had to offer (cough!). Now he's doing what he promised. Sure, it's tough to watch for those who never supported his policy proposals in the first place. But get used to being in the minority, fellas. Of course, I live in a trailer park in the middle of a swamp surrounded by crocodiles and people who are too stupid to live somewhere that isn't crocodile-infested. So what do I know?

None of that, however, has anything to do with the threats and downright lunacy that georges2 posted. But I suppose that everyone in your university town is gearing up for civil war.

Obama and his comrades are using deception, gimmicks, creative accounting, smoke and mirrors to hide the trillions of dollars their scam will cost us. What they are giving the CBO to consider is only PART of the scam, while the most expensive parts of the scam are hidden under other bills or passed to the states (which we will still have to pay).

"Legislative Reality vs, Political Reality," by Peter Suderman, identifies specific deceptive strategies. One of the strategies entails shifting expensive parts of a bill to completely DIFFERENT pieces of legislation. So the costs found by the CBO will be only PART of the costs.

In the House, Democrats shifted an expensive, unpaid-for "fix" to doctor's Medicare reimbursement rates over to a separate bill. And in the Senate, they backloaded the spending so that its full effects would not be felt in the 10-year window that CBO scores. In the latest Senate bill, 99 percent of the spending would occur in the last six years of the budget window.

Obamacare will dramatically increase taxes, costs and the deficit while rationing and destroying health care.

Obamacare reduce the defit?!!! They must think we are all 7-year olds to believe that ridiculous fairy tale!

You have to believe in fairy tales to believe that you can provide insurance for 30 million (or is it 45 million?) more people, pay for the hordes of ACORN-type government workers needed to run the Obamacare scam, pay for the corruption generated by those ACORN types, pay billions to cover Obama's BRIBES (to Big Pharma, the AMA, the AARP, and everyone who could be bribed), pay for Obama’s secret deals, including his deal with Big Pharma... and reduce costs!

Coming from an independent voter, I have never in my life felt as disillusioned from our government then I have this year, and right now I am at the pinnacle of my discontent, which I'm sure will only grow from here in the next few days.

The deceptive chicanery of not just the process but of the substance of this bill is bordering on criminal. 10 years of tax revenues and 5 1/2 years of subsidies to make the bill appear to be "DEFICT NEUTRAL".

The DOC FIX was in the Jobs Bill, but not in the Health Bill, how is that not transparent?

Last minute change to the bill to raise the medicare taxes that Obama promised in Feb. by 35%. Instead of 2.9% it will now be 3.8% on ALL earned and investment medicare taxes.

The flat our FALSE claim that this will extend the life of medicare by 9 years AND reduce the deficit by $130 B. You can't have it both ways (unless you are a lying liberal), you can't claim that it does both, it's either one or the other.

And to top things off, the process has been horrid. Filled with deceptive parliamentary tricks to get through their idealogical ambitions, against the will of the American People, it would be one thing if it weren't that big a piece of legislation, but to encompass 1/6 of the entire economy in a STRICTLY PARTISAN that is so unpopular will destroy this nation from achieving anything meaningful again for a very long time.

I will engage in my friends politically, which I rarely do, and I promise to get out as many people to vote this DEMOCRATIC leadership out of office, and I will never trust these people again, when they willfully lied to us.

Bush was a disaster, but he didn't blatantly lie to us, he just made a colossal error, this on the other hand is a FLAT OUT LIE.

And I refuse to stand idle, I will always vote against the Democrats from now on out.
