Kaptur to vote for health-care reform

By Shailagh Murray
Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), a key holdout on health care because of her concern over abortion language in the Democratic proposal, announced on a Toledo television station this morning that she would vote for the legislation.

The conversion represents a major coup for President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, suggesting Democratic leaders may be on the verge of converting a crucial bloc of holdouts -- Catholic lawmakers who oppose abortion rights -- as they scour the Democratic caucus for the 216 votes needed for passage.

Pelosi and Obama's White House team have held frantic, last-minute talks with Kaptur and about a half-dozen other Democrats who believe the Senate bill, expected to come before the House this evening, could allow people who receive federal subsidies for health insurance to purchase policies that cover abortion procedures.

But Kaptur said she is now confident that the administration would take the necessary steps to preserve the current ban on federal funding of abortion.

"We received assurances last night that we would work with the administration and Secretary Sebelius and the president to ensure that existing law is maintained," Kaptur told WTVG in an interview. "Not to change it in any way, but to make sure it applies to this bill."

Kaptur said she also considered the broader problem of rising health-care premiums in deciding to support the bill. "The bill overall addresses a serious problem before the country today," Kaptur said.

For a full list of how representatives have said they will vote -- and who remains undecided -- see The Post's comprehensive and continuously updated "Who's in play" graphic.

As a nation, just as in our personal lives, we will reap what we sow. It's the Law of the Harvest: We reap WHAT we sow, we reap MORE than what we sow, and we reap in a different SEASON that when we sow.

As a nation, we are going to reap a bitter harvest for the folly. In the future, people will regret this day. I weep for our future.

Let's make sure we "repay" Kaptur, Stupak and the rest of the faux pro-lifers who are helping Obama and his pro-choice agenda. Tricks like the Stupak amendments do not change Obama's pro-abortion and pro-infanticide (late-term abortion) stands.

In addition to destroying lives, Obamacare would destroy businesses and jobs.

Caterpillar said Obamacare would cost them more than 100 million the first year alone! To continue operating in spite of those additional costs Caterpillar will have to fire people and/or take their operations overseas.

Other businesses can anticipate the same problems. And as many companies in the U.S. are barely making it, many will have to close or move to FREER countries.

As a result, millions of people are going to be left not only without insurance but without jobs. And the few lucky enough to have a job will become poor after paying for everyone else. That’s what happens in every commie country, as the country Obama and his comrades are trying to create in the U.S. with “help-the-poor” scams like Obamacre.

Heritage estimates the Obamacare scam will kill 690,000 jobs a year.

With "reform" like that, who needs health care?

Galileo2, I guess you think Cuba and Venezuela and North Korea are "developed democracies."!!

Honest Americans want health care reform, but Obamacare has NOTHING to do with improving anything. It's just a Marxist "help-the-poor" SCAM that would destroy our health care, our economy, our freedoms and our country.

Posted by: AntonioSosa | March 21, 2010 11:23 PM | Report abuse

Finally the US gets to join other developed democracies and take care of the poor, the dispossessed, and the infirm. Why are people talking about price tags? There is a price tag on unnecessary war in Iraq, avoid mistakes like that. There is a price tag attached to foregoing taxes by giving the insanely rich a tax cut (or two). Get rid of mistakes like those and a healthcare system is affordable.

For all those who do not approve of healthcare reform, you cannot honestly think that this is antidemocratic. If you do, you are negating evidence from multiple democratic countries in the developed Western world. Open your eyes and join the program.

seemstome, if you want to pay for the criminal Obamacare SCAM, YOU go ahead and pay for it with you money! No one is stopping you.

The rest of us know we are BROKE and you and your ilk have NO right to STEAL from our children and grandchildren to fund marxist SCAMS just because you happen to be brainwashed (dumbed down) as per the warnings of Soviet defector Yuri Bezmenov: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k6KUDv1wzraWhwlBt1

The dumbed down are obviously unable to understand that Obamacare will further contribute to “the American descent into Marxism,” which “is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple…” http://english.pravda.ru/opinion/columnists/107459-american_capitalism-0

Fortunately, most Americans have NOT been dumbed down. Most Americans have waken up and wised up. Most Americans are not sheeple. Most Americans prefer to be FREE.

How are we going to pay for this bill?

Republicans are always talking about how tax cuts help the economy. The Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 were geared toward the five per cent at the top. The economy is driven by us grunts doing our spending not the fat cats. Republicans like to say if we had no taxes, just think how much tax revenue that would generate----yeah, right, idiots. The banks and their housing bubble Ponzi scheme accounted for the "Bush recovery" and tax revenue on property went up for sure. The rich took their tax cut money and reinvested it in real estate loans and derivatives, not in industrial production and infrastructure where it would have created lasting jobs for the country. When the bubble burst and some of them lost their investments we did the Bush thing again and bailed them out. There went the tax revenue from the "stimulated" economy, right back in their pockets.

That's why we are out a trillion dollars when we need it for our health care system. That's why the country is in a mess,
and that's why TEA party republicans are lying, hypocritical, racist, two faced individuals.

Americans will pay for something that benefits them like this bill. The taxes that are levied will be on those same people who benefited most from the Bush tax cuts. They can afford to give back some of our tax money.

Fox news is propagandizing with all it's got.
It is trying to derail this vote any way it can. But lies won't help them now because no one in the legislature is listening, the debate has started, Stupak has come aboard with his followers and the vote itself is only a formality and finality in the process.
Ronald Reagan once said,"If you're afraid of the future, then get out of the way, stand aside. The people of this country are ready to move again."
Well, Ronald, we're moving now and we aren't afraid of the future, only the past.

If we all had been forced under law to buy stocks on the exchange, Bush wouldn't have had to bail out Wall Street with our tax money. Now, under Obamacare we'll be forced to buy health insurance, so maybe the insurance industry won't need a bailout, right? I'm just glad Congress isn't passing a law making us buy new cars. Thank you, steveeyes, for helping us learn to decipher Orwellian doublespeak. When you say that Democrats (progressives/Marxists) are "the party for middle class families," you mean they are the party that DESTROYS middle class families.

Socialism/Marxism destroys businesses, jobs, economies and freedoms, as can be seen in every country suffering from socialism/Marxism. Just look at Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea.

Manipulating people with doublespeak and "help-the-poor" scams like the Obamacare scam, the Castro brothers transformed an imperfect but happy and prosperous island into a GULAG of abject misery, where the only hope for most is being able to escape. They also infected their Marxist virus to other countries (Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua...), causing tremendous suffering everywhere.

And now Obama is working hard, with the help of the dumbed down population (previously called “useful idiots”) to spread their virus to the U.S. through scams like Obamacare and cap and trade.

Obama weighs 175 pounds but his cojones are the size of watermelons. He has done it. What has he done? Something no other president before him has come close to.
He has given the American people a voice in their health care system. No more canceled policies when you get sick. No more preexisting condition rejections. If insurance denies your claim you can dispute it and the government will decide the outcome, not the insurance company. You don't have to take no for an answer with no recourse. If Obama does nothing else, nothing, he has earned his place in history.

Today is the day the Repukes stupidity and fear tactics become the platform of the Party for the Rich as permanent platform. They backed themselves in a corner that they could not get out of.. their phony grass roots and town halls funded by their rich Insurance CEO cronies were good headlines, but real change is coming. Republcians had 8 years to do something and did nothing...a legacy that continued during obama administration. When a party has no deeds to back their rhetoric, they turn to scare tactics funded by millions of premium dollars denied to customers for health care.

-- no more losing your home because insurance company death panel says "sorry you are too sick for us to cover" so they can take care of their million dollar bonsues

-- no more murdering children by denying health care to those who were born with pre-condition illness.

-- no more rationing of care by insurance companies deciding if they will or will not cover your illness based on greed.

-- no more money caps put on by insurance CEOs who spend their days playing golf with Republican law makers to get laws passed that favor their bottom line v.s. saving the life of middle class workers who faithfully paid their premiums for years

-- no more losing health care because you lose your job

Anyone, in this case conservative representatives of the rich, who thinks the status quo would of been fixed by starting over as Repukes wanted, are idiots. We were duped once by Bush WMD B.S., and the Republicans continue to use the same tactics that worked to kill thousands of our finest -- will not work this time to continue to kill thousands of middle class families at insurance company discretion and Republican's who are on insurance company's payroll.

Take your insurance company phony tea party and go drown in it, Republicans, we win but more importantly, America wins.

Keep voting for the Republican platform of the party of NO for middle class and the party of YES for the rich and we will revisit the Bush years by rewriting the tax code that favored the rich so the rich could get richer while middle class income flat lined.

As expected, Stupak turns out to be just one more corrupt, spineless Democrat -- open the corruption, lies, intimidation, coercion and BRIBES of Obama and his comrades.

Stupak already allowed himself to be "tricked" by Stupak amendment! And now he's "tricked" again?!

The house bill would have failed if not for the Stupak amendment, which cleared the way for a Senate vote.

Tricked by the amendment, some Catholics (not all) actually believed the lies of Obama and his accomplices regarding abortion coverage! Tricked by the amendment, they failed to look at the evil behind the whole Obamacare scam.

Informed Americans, however, understand that, if Obama gets his way, Obamacare will FORCE us to pay for abortions, infanticide (late-term abortion) and probably euthanasia, no matter what Obama and his comrades say to force us to swallow the scam.

Lies do not change Obama's pro-abortion and pro-infanticide (late-term abortion) stand, nor the aberrant stands of Obama's Health Care Czar Ezekiel Emanuel and Science Czar John Holdren.

Lies do not change the FACT that we are broke and Obamacare will further destroy our economy, our future and the future of our children and grandchildren.

Lies do not change the FACT that Obamacare is another scam to enslave us.

We expect our representatives to defend us from the whole Obamacare scam, not just the abortion part of the scam.

Was Stupak in cahoots with Obama and his comrades from the beginning, distracting us with his pretend "pro-life" stand from the evil behind the whole Obamacare scam?

Kaptur's "conversion" (through lies, manipulation, intimidation, coercion, and BRIBES) adds to the killing stench generated by the Obamacare scam.

The stench of the lies, manipulation, intimidation, coercion, bribery, corruption, and backroom deals to force us to swallow the Obamacare SCAM -- which would destroy our health care, our economy, our freedoms and our country -- has forever tainted the Democratic Party and demonstrate the degree of corruption, bribery and fraud we can expect from Obama and his comrades as they continue to enslave us through their Marxist schemes.

More and more Americans understand there's no longer a Democratic Party. The Democratic Party has been replaced by the Progressive (Marxist) party, controlled by U.S. enemies like George Soros and bent on destroying America using the tactics of their Marxist mentor Saul Alinsky.

More and more Americans are ready to do whatever necessary to defend themselves from the Obamacare SCAM.

No it doesn't put more money into the economy, it puts more money in the hands of the government in order to take care of 30 million people who cant or wont get insurance. It actually takes money out of the economy ( at least the free market economy ) in the form of taxes to business and middle income to upper income workers and producers, thus reducing the available money which can circulate by taxes, Also, the increased taxes will cause business owners to reduce jobs or at the least, not create any new ones...It doesn't really matter to me, because I already had to lay off my employees..and I won't be hiring any back in the near future, I just find it funny that the younger people who support this don't realize how they can be controlled by the government employed doctors. Once they get it on record that they have illegal substances in their blood or urine...they will be put on a list..and that list will come back to haunt them,,just think what a set back this will be for them

The best thing about the health-care reform bill is that it represents a giant step toward universal health care, long overdue in the U.S. Too the legislation will stimulate the economy. For health care reform:

Everyone should have an affordable option to health care. All of us (whether insured or insured, or pro choice or anti abortion) pay taxes in one way or another and have the right for our basic needs to be protected and made accessible. And no one should have to cover the cost of someone who is uninsured and unwilling to pay their entire emergency room bill.

It appears in more of a religious belief debate, not all American that pay taxes are religious and many that claim they are don't even attend church. Live and let live. Let people choose whatever they choose. If they want a plan that covers abortions (as those allow within the current law) let them. If you are anti just make sure you choice one that fits your believes (does not cover abortion). Or start one of your own.

Why be against the bill due to one item of many you feel might in the future be an issue. If it does become an issue, deal with it in the future.

Even thought I do currently have been blessed with good health insurance that is affordable compare to many others and will not see benefits right away, I feel that in the future it will be great for everyone. We invested in Iraq and Afghanistan wars for almost 8 years, why not invest in ourselves/Americans health.

Did you here the one about the guy’s wife that killed all of his children because she wanted to make more room for the home invaders?

Oh what.

It wasn't his wife. It was his country.

Back in the 60’s the Federal Government came into the public schools and brainwashed us as little children with the message that the children we were about to have were unwanted because the population was rising so fast. They launched a program called, “Zero Population Growth”. They pushed Family Planning and birth control pills. Now they call the same programs, "Safe Sex" but the results are the same. I think you and I both know that you only have to trick people for their few child bearing years and there is no going back.

Many of us never had a say in the future of our unborn.

I am the result of two living cells. One from each of my parents. They are the result of two living cells, one from each of their parents. I wasn't just born. I am a continuation of life. I am a living thing that reaches back into time perhaps 400 million years and the result of billions of joining of pairs of cells. It is possible that if you were to follow my cells back to my parent’s cells and beyond that my family tree touches every living thing here on earth. That is if we limit ourselves to believing life was created here on earth. If it rained down from the immensity of the universe it could reach back into that immensity of time and space, and who knows what relationships and who knows what species.

My family line succeeded, at least until I came up against the Federal Government.

I have seen the Federal Government do little else to control the population.

The open borders, United States laws only apply to some, is a serious slap in the face. No. Not a slap in the face. It reaches well beyond that. Maybe back to the beginning of time and stretch to the bounds of the universe.

It creates jobs and allows people to advance or move on and do their own thing. If the Democrats and Obama have their way, we will never have the chance to take chances and start businesses and this country will NOT be the land of the free. "but how many of these same households have TVs, cell phones, game consoles, various manners of high tech gadgetry, cable, satellite TV, name brand clothing and shoes, luxury food items, cigarettes, etc. etc. "

Only someone unaware of how much insurance costs right now could make that statement - you realize premiums just went up 40% in California? In one year? Yet you think people could just stop buying starbucks and cover that kind of increased cost?

My insurance premiums, for the part of my insurance NOT covered by my employer, would be nearly $800 a month. I can't afford it and still make my student loan payments, so I don't have insurance, although I admit I am not living in a cardboard box without a tv.

I assure you, however, that I am not spending $800 a month in "high tech gadgetry, and name brand clothing..." and I doubt very much that anyone else is uninsured because they are wasting their money on "luxury food items."

If I get cancer because I can't afford basic medical care, or get hit by a truck crossing the street, taxpayers will have to cover my care. I'm really sorry about that, but trust me, I wouldn't do it to the country if I could just cut out dry cleaning or some other small expense to cover the cost of insurance.

This time, there are more vicious and loaded with, you guess it, more lies and code words. They now have a network whose sole purpose is misinformation, exageration and distortion on their side.

There is certainly room for improvement in the area of health care in our Nation yet no one has addressed the area of personal accountability. There seems to be this outcry about the inability for the average working family or needy to be able to pay for adequate health care but how many of these same households have TVs, cell phones, game consoles, various manners of high tech gadgetry, cable, satellite TV, name brand clothing and shoes, luxury food items, cigarettes, etc. etc. There seems to be a prevailing attitude in our US culture that an awful lot of what should be considered luxuries or privileges are thought of as "what's owed to them". Why? There are those who are truly burdened by the cost of health care for their particular situation but the majority of Americans could probably sacrifice some their luxuries and afford basic health care. We are a large family of very modest means. We support our family with a small (5 employees, all family)business. We have a child with a chronic disease that needs regular medical and pharmaceutical attention. We have been through seasons without insurance. We have never been "turned away" when health care was needed. Hospitals, labs and pharmacies have always been willing to work with us. We have had to make sacrifices and choices. Of course it isn't easy but it's not horrible, its not wrong. It's life and reality and accountability. We absolutely oppose the proposal of government; regardless of the party, taking any more control of the private sector of this nation. We see no benefit that could possibly be achieved by the Gov't. overseeing health care. Common sense reform is attainable without government takeover. We must stand against these attempts to subtly usurp our liberties. It is not the answer.

Over the last 35 years big money/big business has had a plan to depress the middle class workers and increase profits for shareholders. Reganomics and eight years of Bush gained great strides in achieving this goal. CEOs wages have increased 600%, profits for oil, health insurance and wall street are setting world records, BUT for the American worker wages have had no increases! The Republican are puppets for big money/big business, Everthing they have passed in Washington DC in the past 50 years has been for big money/big business with the explaination that it will trickle down to the peasants. Well now we have a President and political party that believes in the "trickle up" theory! Help the bottom workers and it will trickle up to the top. Kind of like Henry Ford, Ford Motor Company believed years ago. The Republican Party needs to be stopped and I think President Obama can do it.
