LL Cool J: Fox News 'misrepresenting' Sarah Palin's new show

[Updated at 4:09]

By Rachel Weiner
Those who were surprised at reports that LL Cool J would be a guest on Thursday's debut of Sarah Palin's Fox News show were right to be incredulous. The rapper is now accusing the network of "misrepresenting" an old clip in its ads to make it appear that he was interviewed for Palin's show.

"Fox lifted an old interview I gave in 2008 to someone else & are misrepresenting to the public in order to promote Sarah Palins Show. WOW," LL Cool J wrote on his Twitter feed Tuesday night.

Here's the ad for Palin's show, "Real American Stories," where LL Cool J is shown:

In response, Fox News cut LL Cool J from the ad and the show. "Real American Stories features uplifting tales about overcoming adversity and we believe Mr. Smith's interview fit that criteria," a spokesperson told Mediabistro. (LL Cool J's real name is James Todd Smith.) "However, as it appears that Mr. Smith does not want to be associated with a program that could serve as an inspiration to others, we are cutting his interview from the special and wish him the best with his fledgling acting career."

Update: Country singer Toby Keith was also unwittingly included in promotions for Palin's show, a spokesperson says. "Toby was not asked to participate nor has he ever done an interview with Sarah Palin," his publicist told PopEater. "Like LL, Keith's interview for the special was also taped in 2008."

"FOX has never contacted me about this special," she added. "We found out about it yesterday."

"Real American Stories" debuts Thursday at 10 p.m. Eastern Time.

If they didn't have anybody for Sara to interview why didn't they do a special on the Tea Party Activist. Oh, thats right Fox would proberly have to pay her double since she gets paid when speaking to them. Besides, no celebrity wants to be seen with making money, Baracudda Sara.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Laughing at YOU useful idiots who continue to sing the praises of a FAILED president!

Man, you must have drunk that Kool-Aid far and deep. Even the REALITIES of what is going on around you (9.7% unemployment, laughing stock of China, Russia and Iran, failure of "stimulus" packages, unsustainable "healthcare" bill passed, sinking approval ratings, adding trillions to the federal deficit with nothing to show for it, broken campaign promises and on and on and on....) aren't enough to SNAP you out of your stupor.

Well, the rest of us have moved on. Looking forward to de-clawing this a**clown in November, then sending him packing in 2012, if he doesn't resign or isn't impeached by then.

By the way, he filled out his Census form today. In the area where you are asked your nationality, how did he answer? Black? White? Indonesian? Other? Not Applicable? Kenyan? Non-resident? What? Just wondering....

This guy's a real piece of work, and YOU MORONS continue to wave the flag for him, even long after so many have realized their voting mistake and have moved on. But keep believing in that hope and change. I'm sure someday he'll come along and pay your mortgage, put gas in your car, buy you food and cure your cancer. You just gotta KEEP BELIEVING.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Post moderators, if you are going to leave QuineGeology's wishful list of Palin's accomplishments, please post my rebuttal. If you will not do that, you should delete his post as well.

I did miss one item, I think - Palin did not have a deficit while governor thanks to high oil prices, not thanks to her frugality. She's no fiscal conservative. Her $1200 per person giveaway was nothing but a populist move to buy votes, and has had no lasting impact for our citizens. She chose to turn away stimulus money for energy improvements that would save residents energy costs and provide jobs, yet accepted money for extended unemployment, money that has done nothing to provide jobs. Thankfully our legislature decided to override her decision on the energy funds.

kayjay503, your list of jobs Palin couldn't handle and quit is accurate. May I suggest next time you leave it there? While there is support for your other conclusion, it has not been proven beyond doubt and may turn people away from the other points you made so well.

It is not a coincident that Palin's show is being broadcast on April Fools Day. I heard she got Krusty the Clown to replace LL Cool J and Sideshow Bob to replace Toby Keith.

Palin has proven to be an expert in several areas as noted above: she is a wheeler dealer in proving that a sucker will buy into anything that has behind it a pretty face, a wink, and lack of knowledge as with her. She will get her coverage possible even run for the Presidency but never will she and several who support her realize that she really is a scam flying the American flag behind her. She is now on the money wagon while the kids are raising the kids with the 'dude's' help I suppose but that is her choice. My choice is never to buy into the inflamatory lies and baseless facts that her airhead puts forth.

Sarah Palin is an "illiterate" liar who advocates "violence". She left Wasilla $22,000,000 in debt. She is a vindictive liar and that's been proven over and over. Her FaceBook page is a farce. They count me as a "fan", but banned me from the page and many many others were banned. Her book is full of "lies" and people in the book dispute her "lies". Also Pres Barack Hussein Obama has over 7.5 million fans on his FaceBook page. And passed the healthcare Bill "No other Pres" has done. Palin's latest accomplishment is putting "cross hairs" on representative's "BACKS' she can't defeat with better policy and ideas. She's duping people like you all the way to the Bank. She's a lowlife, vindictive, greedy coward.

QuineGeology, I tried to answer the very inaccurate analysis of Palin's accomplishments you posted at 9:05 line by line, but it went to moderation. Please consider doing some real homework. Much of Palin's book has been debunked, and her record as mayor and as governor leave much to be desired. I'm from Wasilla, and wish she would just go home and consider parenting, for a change.

QuineGeology, I hate to tell you this, but a lot of Palin's Facebook followers are NOT fans. They're just watching to see what hateful, hypocritical, or just plain insane thing she's going to do or say next.

Nosy_Parker, if I'm remembering correctly, she was caught plagiarizing already in a speech about Ronald Reagan, while introducing his son. She's also good at quote mis-attribution.

QuineGeology,

So it okay for palin to lie, misrepresent herself, and quit on the people who voted her into office. I will not call her governor because she is not entitled to be called governor.

LL Cool J has be in the business far longer than palin spilling her spew.

That little county she was major represented which she left in 22 million dollar in debt, they had no debt. She build a bridge to nowhere, she cannot speak coherent sentence and she one the most unintelligent woman I have ever seen on television.

this woman is only interested in one thing, making money she does not care about the public, we are a stepping stone for her to reach the millions she wants.

She not real, her ideas are not real, she tells you what you want to here. there are no new ideas coming from that pea size brain of hers.

Wake up and take a step back and really look at what palin as to offer

“Sarah Palin will kick off her new Fox News series with one of the most diverse guest lineups in memory: LL Cool J, Toby Keith, and Jack Welch. The three very different guests will speak to Palin for her inaugural episode of ‘ American Stories ‘ on April 1st.” /Unquote

QuineGeology couldn't be more wrong about Palin.

1. After Sarah Palin was elected mayor to the city of Wasilla, she had to hire the city manager John Kramer who then actually ran Wasilla - because she couldn't handle her job.

2. Sarah Palin quit her highly paid job in the Alaskan oil & gas commission after 11 months - because she couldn't handle her job.

3. Sarah Palin quit as Governor of Alaska after 2 1/2 years - because she couldn't handle her job.

And not to forget, amongst many other things, she faked a pregnancy while she was Governor of Alaska.

I don't begrudge Sarah Palin making money off her celebrity status. The state of American culture today allows many seemingly talentess people to profit off their celebrity status. I do think that when she resigned she should have stated that her main reason for leaving office was to "pursue other interests". Instead she played the victim and made ludicrous excuses. BTW QuineGeology, who was on the losing side in the election of 2008 and who is never going to be taken seriously as a national candidate again? You get 2 points if you can answer that question. P.S. Sarah Palin's overall approval rating hovered around 30% the voters were asked whether or not she was qualified to become President.

And Barack Obama won the 2008 election 53% to 46%. Does that mean the useful idiots that "got out the vote" are intelligent? Does that mean Obama isn't an a**clown, and he isn't messing up our country at every turn? NO, NO and NO.

Face it, Ovomit is a one-term blunder. With a 48% approval rating and dropping - THIS EARLY IN HIS PRESIDENCY - we're looking at a new president in January, 2013. The only question at this point is to which hospital will Obama be taken in order to remove Sarah Palin's high heel from his a**?

Creating phoney interview for promotion; OK, I could overlook that as a trick for making some money. But giving a TV show to Sarah Palin is plain brainless. The lady can't put two intelligebt words together and they gave her air time?

Remember, Thursday at 10 p.m. Eastern Time. Tune in, lets give her good rating so they can keep the fool from Alaskan Wasteland talking. Eventualy she will join as a co-host to Sean Hannitty.

wmwilliam: Very well. Here's just a sampling of things about Sarah Palin

-Ran for and won a seat on the City council
-Ran for and became mayor of Wasilla, served two terms
-Appointed chairman of Alaska Oil and Gas Commission
-Making ethics her specialty, she took on Big Oil, cleaned up the corruption, and permanently changed the relationship with Big Oil and the state of Alaska
-Won Alaska governorship in a landslide
-As governor, her outstanding accomplishments were too numerous to mention in this small space; I encourage you to read skip the media bias and read "Going Rogue" for the details
-While governor, enjoyed an approval rating that at one point reached 93% - a record for any governor. She was able to work with legislators from both sides of the aisle and actually get things done.
-Exposed, went after and cleaned up corruption in state politics. Many people are wearing orange jumpsuits and sitting in an Alaskan prison because of her whistle-blowing.
-Cleaned-up the process and signed the license to build the Trans-Canada Pipeline, the largest infrastructure project in history.
-Thanks to her, Alaska will get 50% of its energy from renewable resources - - double the amount Obama mandated for every state.
-16 years of executive experience, compared to Obama's ZERO.
-Managed a $14 Billion budget and never ran a deficit, compared to Obama's ZERO before being elected.
-Has run her family's fishing business for years with her husband Todd.
-Wrote a best-selling book, with a second one on the way
-Is now a political contributor to FoxNews
-Developed and sold a reality TV series to Discovery
-Commands top pay for speaking engagements too numerous to count
-Thousands show up at her every appearance, no matter where she goes.
-Her name is one of the top hits on Google of all time

Fox is just being efficient in this instance.WHY NOT take an old clip and edit it so it looks like it was made for the show? That would save Mrs. Palin from actually having to do any work; freeing her up for other more important things. Such as pretending she actually types her own postings on Facebook. This way Fox won't have to worry about her quitting the show like she has done before when the job became too demanding. ROFL

Agreed. So it looks like Obama is out of the running:

-Served 143 days in the Senate before campaigning for president
-Voted "present" 55% of the time
-No meaningful legislation written or passed as Senator
-Never ran a business
-Never balanced a budget
-Never managed a team of employees
-Never met a payroll
-No campaign promises kept
-Policies have resulted in trillions of dollars more in debt and a 9.7% unemployment rate
-Approval ratings now south of 50% and dropping
-Can't throw a baseball

(That last one isn't important... but it IS funny!)

How did this lightweight get to be a media star in the first place? John McCain looked so embarrassed and uncomfortable when she was campaigning for him. Palin kept mentioning getting new blood and how old McCain was. I don't know if she did it on purpose but it clearly couldn't have helped McCain's chances.

Yuk it up all you want, people, but numbers are numbers. From today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Best. Quarter. Ever. That’s what Fox News had in terms of cable ratings, according to Nielsen Media Research. The network captured its largest average total day audience – 1.30 million total – in its 14-year-history.

In contrast, its rival, Atlanta-based CNN, saw the largest ratings drop – double digits – from the first quarter a year ago, figures show.

CNN drew in 507,000 viewers, according to research data supplied by the network. But the cable network continued to slip in the key advertising area of prime time.

The network’s triple-play prime time lineup of Campbell Brown, Larry King and Anderson Cooper shed viewers, particularly in the 25-to-54 age demographic, with Brown and King having their lowest-rated quarters ever, figures show.

CNN has continued to make adjustments to its anchor lineup, but not to its prime time programming.

The changes have included creating a new afternoon program for Rick Sanchez and cutting Wolf Blitzer’s “The Situation Room” back by one hour. John King, former host of “State of the Union” on Sundays, now has a new show at 7 p.m. on weekdays. King replaces Lou Dobbs, who announced in November he was leaving the network after nearly 20 years.

Adding Sarah Palin to the mix should send their Nielsen ratings into the stratosphere.

Poor Dumbbell Cool J. When I think of all the new fans he might have won over to replace all the old fans that have long since left him.....well, it just breaks my heart.

No it doesn't. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Fox is right about one thing; Sarah Palin should be an inspiration for everyone. She has marginal skills, intellect and ability yet is making millions strictly on her celebrity. Like Joe the Plummer, Levi Johnson and her daughter Willow Palin, she proves the new success formula in America is exposure, exposure, exposure.
Fox should be featuring other people that are “American” success stories like: the White House party crashers Mr. and Mrs. Salahi or the “Balloon boy” parents the Heenes. They are all the same story. Publicity equals success.

Wow.

I'm no LL Cool J fan, so let the criticism of him by Palin fans fly, but give me a break. If that wasn't a smarmy, passive-aggressive 'official response' by the spokesperson, then nothing is.

"However, as it appears that Mr. Smith does not want to be associated with a program that could serve as an inspiration to others, we are cutting his interview from the special and wish him the best with his fledgling acting career."

Give me a break. How about the possibility that LL Cool J doesn't want to be associated with a figure who is as polarizing as Sarah Palin? Which is completely reasonable, whether LL Cool J is a tool or a genius (it matters not).

It's pretty spurious of Fox (but then that's Fox for ya) to make a claim like that. It's akin to all the election-time ad spots we see that STRONGLY encourage you to vote FOR something or AGAINST something, then tell you that the ad spot is brought to you by "People Who Breathe Oxygen", "People Who Don't Hate Puppies", "People Against Hurting Babies", to make it seem as though there's some broad, irrefutable appeal that you'd be a demon not to agree with.

I don't think I did any of those things..I don't even like hip-hop, but I know the 56th greatest song of the 1990s as determined by VH1. I guess you do have other things to do like stapling tea bags to hats and sending angry letters to Nancy Pelosi...

I wanna know who has their eye on the Russian border? You can't just hand over that responsibility to some hillbilly mayor. No way. And when she says 'load 'em' she means cash not guns. She is such a meagerstar whose only contamination of the airwaves is her incessant screech. How 'bout she join up with LL and do a bit on 'Dirty Dancing' Her theme song: "Limbo rock, how low can u go?" Nothing is too low for Sarah. Nothing.

unrest: Wow, looks like I really struck a noive with you, and a few others here. How old are you? I didn't realize the Washington Post appealed to eighth-graders.

I mean, being a fan of LL Cool J's music once upon a time when you were young is one thing - I get it. But still quoting his lyrics? Defending him as if he's contributed something grandiose to society? Acting as if rap music is the pinnacle of human existence?

Seriously, people, how old ARE you? I love and appreciate all kinds of music but I can honestly say I have never heard a single song by this guy or if I have, I wasn't aware of it. I guess I don't move in the same circles as any of you people, but then again, I'm an adult, hold down a career and have family and friends to attend to. I put my toys (and rap CDs) away years ago.

QuineGeology - You conveniently overlooked that this 'fledging' program is being cobbled together with borrowed clips from other programs. Palin is nothing more than a 2010 version of 'Max Headroom' with mammories stuffed in a wonder bra. The genre you speak of has been around for over 30 yrs and the man has a net worth exceeding $200 million. You must be related to Magnus Cott b/c you are talking out the side of your arse!!!

Oh Sarah, just slow down a minute...catch your breath. I know you feel that if you don't cash in quick your "audience" will get wise to you and the moment will have past. But you'll be okay. There is no evidence to suggest that your "audience" will catch on to anything. You can scam them for years to come and they will sit in front of their boob tubes and dream of a world where there are no taxes and no gun laws. All the children will be named Trig and Fig and Bristol and Pistol. I'm getting weepy just thinking about it.

How, Imahaingttiam, do interpret criticism of Fox's misrepresenting footage (AGAIN) for the Left hating uplifting stories?

So true! The right has long done the same thing to insinuate that anyone to the left of them is unpatriotic, too. But now we're savvy enough to see through such transparent ploys.

Posted by: Nosy_Parker | March 31, 2010 2:03 PM | Report abuse

Regardless of what you think of LLCool J, that ad makes it seem like Sarah Palin interviewed him for her show, when in fact she did not. It's misleading at best; outright lying seems more like it. Fox should have issued a sincere apology. I wonder how many of the other "interviews" in the ad were lifted from elsewhere?

Posted by: talleyl | March 31, 2010 2:00 PM | Report abuse

LL Cool J does not need a PR boost from some cheezy cobbled-together Fox program.
But even if he did, it would be utterly sleazy for Fox to use his story without his permission (but not terribly surprising.)

Posted by: EinDC | March 31, 2010 1:58 PM | Report abuse

The Right always tries to generalize things into simpleton terms that they can be comfortable with.

How, Imahaingttiam, do interpret criticism of Fox's misrepresenting footage (AGAIN) for the Left hating uplifting stories?

Fox did the same thing a couple of months ago with a conservative rally. They showed unrelated footage (with tons more people) as if it had happened at the rally. Jon Stewart's show called Fox out on that and Fox apologized (only to do it again, ho hum).

Posted by: overdrive_68 | March 31, 2010 1:54 PM | Report abuse

Fox--the networks that play the morality shtick ad nauseum are responsible for 48% of the indecency complaints to the FCC. Pushing viewer's emotional buttons is big business.Seen Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Coulter, and company begging for money latey??

If the liberal side of the fence suddenly became THE cash cow, do you really think Fox wouldn't switch sides in a heartbeat?

I guess some people are never going to get it--or maybe never be able to swallow enough pride to admit that they've been played like a Stradivari violin.

But I digress. I guess what I'm trying to say is that in the grand scheme of things, LL Cool J's music, lyrics and life are of such minuscule consequence, it's probably best that he's edited out of a show entitled "Real American Stories".

Posted by: QuineGeology | March 31, 2010 1:37 PM

minuscule consequence? baaaaaaaaaaahaha oh man i could comment for days on how ignorant QuineGeology is. Why don't you get your media-whoring Palin to interview people herself instead of being a lazy butt and stealing from other interviews. If LL Cool J's accomplishments were of minuscule importance, he wouldn't even be on it or heavily advertised as so.

Ignorant people like you crack me up.

Posted by: Nosy_Parker | March 31, 2010 1:44 PM | Report abuse

The Left has always hated an uplifting American story. They killed wholesome shows like Ozzie and Harriet, Father Knows Best etc. Recently when Bill Cosby made statements about the black community needing to embrace education even his successful show of nuclear family morality was attacked as untrue to the black experience. James T. Smith (Ladies love cool James) should be proud to lend his name to an uplifting viewpoint of American opportunity. It is the reason that million risk all to get to this country. You have hit the evolutionary lotto to have lived here in the last half century.

That statement says a lot more about the show/network than it does about Mr Smith. What do they gain by squabbling with him, other than diverting attention from their own apparent misrepresentations of the interview?

=======================================

I hate to break it to you, QuineGeology, but LL Cool J does not need to appear on a two-bit political hack's (Palin) show in order to do anything for his career.

He was born in 1968 and his musical career started at the age of 16, his acting career started in the early 90's, he has his own fashion line, he has written four books, and has his own music label. He's been living the American Dream (TM) before Palin was even on the Wasilla, Alaska City Council.

He does not need Palin, and it's pretty pathetic that Fox and Palin would stoop as low as reusing an old ad to make it look like he was being interviewed on the show. On the contrary, Palin needed LL Cool J, and tried to get away with it without actually having him on the show.

Posted by: ClandestineBlaze | March 31, 2010 1:32 PM | Report abuse

who's defending palin? terrible. cutting and pasting interviews is lazy. then they're gonna come at him with the "fledgling acting career" bit. haha! sad. btw LL has had money and fame since he couldn't live without his radio; everything he does now is for recreation.

Posted by: jfv123 | March 31, 2010 1:26 PM | Report abuse

QuineGeology, clearly you don't know the music industry. Rap music is still at the top of the charts. LL Cool J doesn't need to associate himself with a fake news channel and an even faker host for publicity. He already stars on a hit network show, NCIS Los Angeles. LL has been in the industry for over 20 years. Let's see how long Sarah Palin is around before she quits this job when it gets difficult for her. We didn't know who Sarah Palin was before the election and 20 years from now she will just be a footnote in the history books like other failed VP candidates.

Rockin my peers and puttin suckas in fear
Makin the tears rain down like a MON-soon
Listen to the bass go BOOM
Explosion, overpowerin
Over the competition, I'm towerin
Wreckin shop, when I drop these lyrics that'll make you call the cops
Don't you dare stare, you betta move
Don't ever compare

Competition's payin the price...etc...

LL Cool J has had a successful career in the entertainment biz for about 25 years. Sarah Palin, who's really the one with the "fledgling career", needs him more than he needs her. That's evident by the fact that she would stoop to deceit to get his interview on her show. But, true to character, she'll probably quit soon and maybe move on to a line of frozen entrees or something like that, until she quits that...etc.

Posted by: alloleo | March 31, 2010 1:20 PM | Report abuse

Not surprising that Palin would lift the old interviews instead of doing them herself. As the past has taught us, Palin + interview = train wreck. Which is great entertainment in my mind, but probably not the public image she wants to continue putting out there. Too bad, could have been good for some laughs.
