Nancy Pelosi's birthday wish
By Ben Pershing
What do you buy for the Speaker who has everything?
Unless you are Facebook friends with Nancy Pelosi, you were probably unaware that Friday is her birthday. And even if you knew that the California Democrat was about to turn 70, you probably didn't know what present to get her. Until now.
At the end of Pelosi's weekly press conference Thursday, a reporter shouted out, "Happy Birthday!"
"You know what I want for my birthday?" Pelosi responded. "I think it's going to be a stove for our kitchen ... and that's good. But I want a pool table. I always wanted a pool table."
Pelosi explained that she's "trying to get better" at the game and with "all these grandchildren," a pool table would be good to have around the house.
Just in case no one fulfills the Speaker's wish, she could probably swing treating herself to a birthday gift. As of last year, Roll Call ranked her as the 23rd richest member of Congress, with a net worth of $12.5 million -- primarily due to her husband's real estate investments.
That could buy a lot of pool tables.
