Reps. Gordon and Markey switch from no to yes on health-care bill

By Paul Kane
Reps. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.) and Betsy Markey (D-Colo.) will now support the health-care legislation before the House, reversing the opposition that led them to vote against it on Nov. 7.

Gordon issued a statement to local media on his change of heart, and a senior aide confirmed Markey was in the process of doing the same.

That makes for a total of three no to yes vote switches. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) was the first to flip to yes on Wednesday. Gordon is a retiring long-time centrist who has made deficit reduction a hallmark of his career; his announcement came immediately after congressional analysts estimated $1.4 trillion in deficit reduction over 20 years for the legislation.

Markey is a politically significant convert, being a freshman lawmaker from a swing suburban district outside Denver.

On a topsy-turvy day, these switches came amid an erosion of support from other lawmakers who had previously supported the health-care reform bill now before the House.

In addition to Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), who headed to an Oval Office meeting by announcing his likely opposition, Rep. Michael Arcuri (D-N.Y.), who is facing a tough reelection fight, has told Democratic leaders he plans to oppose the legislation despite his Nov. 7 vote for it, a senior aide said.

These two guys ignore the moral and ethical damages they will do to America by voting yes. Just totally gutless and I will help vote them out of office. You can take that to the bank.

The Catholic Health Association is FOR the healthcare reform and have endorsed its passage. If this healthcare bill passes their purity test, then you can be assured that every republican posturing against health care reform is an anti-Christ.

When the Catholics are supporting this specific bill in healthcare reform, the republicans need to realize it is game over and concede. Any further noisemaking by the republicans is simply a waste of good air and is merely for the sake of trying to create a poisoned and polarized environment. Shame on the republicans.

Anyone participating in this debate will realize within a very short time that conservative opposition to all health care reform is based on political posturing more than substance. Conservatives attack Obama and Democrats more than address the specifics of change. What will in the long term hurt Republicans is their willingness to lie about the issues. The slanders about President Obama's birth and that death panel will be created to euthanize the elderly are unconscionable and unpatriotic. There is an almost deafening roar from their ranks that all democrats are closet Bolsheviks who want to give new life to Marxism in this country. What utter nonsense. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents all voted for President Obama to champion the sort of change that is taking place today. Bolsheviks did steal across the Bering Sea to invade the United States. We are the same people who voted in November's election. We are not stupid, idiots, communists, Nazis, Fascists, professional liars, or freeloaders looking for a handout. Health care reform is the responsible thing to do. Certainly, in the 14 months of this debate Republicans have added little to get the job done. Moreover, most Americans can see that Republicans will never concede to any changes proposed by Democrats.

Change is hard but has to be wrested from obstructionist Republicans. This is their last ditch fight for survival after the fiasco of the last administration than about health care reform. But, health care will happen. That is a foregone conclusion.

The crazies are out of the closet this morning. Shameful to know that people here cannot read and comprehend. Cynicism is fine but you cannot eat it or wear it. It is not helpful if you dwell in it forever. The erosion of America's comprehension is not the fault of another country but the right wing blowhards on radio and cable that feed you trash day after day.

Get from under the bed, open a book, free your mind and maybe you will become whole.

It is time for the wavering Democrats to stand up and be counted. A yes vote on health care is essential to making America competitive again. every country in the world with a h igher standard of living than the US has a universal single payer health care system. Our system is badly broken and the insurance companies who are largely responsible for the mess we are in cannot be trusted to fix it.

As for those who call the supporters of reform names like "traitor" and "unpatriotic" one can only feel sorry for their inability to come up with any real argument against it. They are totally out of touch with what this country is all about. The name calling by those too ignorant to debate based on facts will never cease, so let us all just leave them behind as we go forward to make America the best that it can be.

I am a Christian Conservative who opposes the Dem health/abortion bill and the politics of this administration and congressional leadership. But when I read the comments by Scrivener50, I kept waiting for the punchline. Come on, guys! Don't make an A** of yourself. We are America! I believe borrowing more than we can pay for in several generations is wrong. I think it will make the US less than we have ever been. I think it is being done on purpose as a way to make many people want Big Government to come save them. Not me. I prefer liberty over a government-provided financial security any day. When Gov gives the money, they always have a say in how you live!
We can still pray and vote and speak out ... we have never had a hard time here like many Christians around the world face. Pray. Fast. Donate. Rally. But come on, skip the microwave weapons and prisoners in our homes bit ... I'd bet Bush sent a secret code to BIG FOOT to come to your house, too.
Really ... this is Move On.Org type stuff. Save it for the Koolade Crowd!
(O, by the way, did I ever tell you about the time I got chased by a Martian Weeny dog ... I knew if it bit me I would turn into a liberal!)

Hope it was big enough that you two would sell out the American People...Have you thought of how will you manage after the socialist take over? You have been use to
promote a BAD Health Bill and you will be thrown aside by your Socialist leader and the Americam votes..

Pellosi and Reed and Obama are traiters and must be removed from office, bullets or ballots. We do not want the goverment to take over health care. Patriots listen to Fox News and Rush. We will take our country back.

Health Care Reform? FIRST, DO NO HARM.

SECRET MULTI-AGENCY FED PROGRAM SILENTLY ASSAULTS, TORTURES, IMPAIRS, SUBJUGATES U.S. CITIZENS WITH CELL TOWER MICROWAVE WEAPON SYSTEM, FINANCIAL SABOTAGE, 'COMMUNITY WATCH' VIGILANTISM: VETERAN JOURNALIST

* Thousands of Americans slandered as "dissidents" or undesirables, targeted by Bush legacy program for debilitating, cell tower- based precision-targeted microwave/laser assault, held hostage in their own homes to fed-supported vigilante "community policing" stalking units equipped with warrantless GPS devices, who vandalize and terrorize as local police look the other way.

* Electromagnetic frequency microwave/laser weapons -- a nationwide installation employing cell towers and satellites -- silently, invisibly induce weakness, exhaustion, mood changes, pain, head and body aches, physical and neurological impairment, strokes, aneurysms, cancer -- and many victims do not realize what is making them sick.

===== POLITICAL LEADERS MAY BE TARGETED, TOO. =====

* Regional Homeland Security- administered "fusion centers" reportedly serve as command centers for covert electromagnetic radiation attacks, pervasive surveillance, financial sabotage of those identified as "dissidents," "trouble-makers" or slandered as threats to society.

* Use of microwave weaponry to torture and impair political opponents recently confirmed by deposed Honduras President Manuel Zelaya.

* Pleas for justice, to local police and FBI, go unanswered -- as do demands for a Department of Justice Civil Rights Division investigation and congressional hearings.

"These are crimes against humanity and the Constitution, being perpetrated under the cover of national security and 'safe streets' by multiple federal and local agencies and commands -- an American genocide hiding in plain sight, enabled by the naivete of those who think 'it can't happen here.'" -- Victor Livingston, former reporter for WTXF-TV Philadelphia, Phila. It was just discovered that Represenative Gordon will be the beneficiary of a massive earmark in exchange for his yes vote.

So much for the "most ethical Congress of al time" that Pelosi promised us!

How biased! The big headline "Gordon and Markey Switch to Yes," and then buried at the bottom...oh yeah, two others switched from yes to no.
