Todd Palin has surprising tie to Venezuela-owned oil company

Mystik Lubricants was a sponsor of the Davis-Palin team

By Garance Franke-Ruta
As a vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin condemned Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez as a "dictator" and called for "energy independence ... to allow us to be less and less reliant on someone like Hugo Chavez."

Venezuela, one of the top suppliers of oil to the United States, "wanted to use energy sources as a weapon" under Chavez, she said.

But Palin's anti-Venezuela sentiments do not appear to extend to her husband, whose snowmobile racing team was sponsored by a division of Citgo, the retail arm of Venezuela's state-owned oil and gas company.

Todd Palin's Iron Dog snowmobile team competed this year under a sponsorship from Mystik Lubricants, which was founded in Texas in 1922 but now resides under the Citgo corporate banner.

"Mystik Lubricants is a proud sponsor of Scott Davis and Todd Palin, competitors in the 2010 Iron Dog," the company said on its site. "Mystik is ... a sponsor of Team #22 Scott Davis and Todd Palin -- past Iron Dog Champions. Davis Racing team which includes Scott Davis, Todd Palin, Regina Daniels, Cory Davis and Carly Davis accepted Mystik Lubricants' sponsorship offer."

Mystik Lubricants was also the "exclusive engine oil sponsor for the 2010 Iron Dog Snowmobile Race," supplying the competitors with 250 cases of snowmobile oil and 500 Mystik safety vests for volunteers, according to its Web site.

A spokesman for Citgo confirmed that Mystik Lubricants is a Citgo brand, and not a separate company. A Palin adviser referred questions to the Iron Dog race organizers. Iron Dog organizers and the Citgo spokesman were not immediately able to provide information on what corporate sponsorship of a snowmobile team entailed.

The Davis-Palin team dropped out of this year's Iron Dog race early after injuries and mechanical problems put them at the back of the pack.

After the race ended, Sarah Palin went on to appear in a video spot for the Iditarod sled-dog race standing in front of a snowmobile bearing the Mystik logo.

"She did it as basically a little promotional for the race," said Iditarod spokesman Chas St. George. The Mystik-logo snowmobile was in the shot, he said, "because her husband is an Iron Dog participant and she loves both of those sports and she refers to both of those sports."

Palin was not paid by the Iditarod organizers to do the promotion, St. George said.

Chavez has also been a critic of Palin's, dismissing her in 2008 as "a beauty queen that they've pulled out to be a figurehead."

Questions about Todd Palin's Iron Dog sponsor were first raised last week on Alaska blogs.

One other thing to remember is that Citgo provided fuel oil to the rural Alaska villages through the Citizens Energy Corp. - a non-profit supported by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Quitter Governor Palin just couldn't find a way to help these residents.

Here is a link to a thank-you letter:
http://aitc.org/?q=node/240

"Thanking CITGO, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and the Citizens Energy Corporation for gifting 100 gallons of heating oil to each family in hundreds of villages, towns and communities throughout Alaska"

"Mystik lubricants also sponsored the Iron Dog as a whole this year. I guess everyone who participated love Hugo Chavez."

Why shouldn't they love Hugo Chavez? He's responsible for one of their sponsorships. But this isn't about everyone who participated. This is only about Sarah Palin.

What makes this particular situation so comical is that Hugo Chavez is also responsible for sponsoring MR. SARAH PALIN'S team in particular. The same Sarah Palin who wouldn't shake Oliver Stone's hand for being a Chavez supporter, (theoretically) sleeps with a man who takes money from Hugo Chavez.

And that same Sarah Palin is too cowardly (and too unable) to address the hypocrisy inherent in her stance. She chickens out and refers the question elsewhere, instead of explaining why her own husband accepts a sponsorship from an evil dictator.

Bwahahahahahaha! Another example of what a greedy, grasping train wreck AND what a bad, bad joke Sarah Palin is.

Enjoy her, conservies and teabaggers! This arrogant ignoramus is gonna cost you the *next* election, too!

Apparently I need to get a few things straight:
.. Anyone who has any involvement with any part of Citgo is a Chavez tool?
.. All the participants of the 2010 Iron Dog Snowmobile Race are Chavez lovers?
.. The WaPo takes its lead from Palingates - a hate Palin site run by a European?
.. Liberals are too stupid to comprehend that her parents using a Canadian medical facility because it was closer, and when she was 5 years old, does not have anything to do with her ADULT opinion regarding socialized medicine.

Pathetic article.

Funny $arah didn't mention this in her speech when she quit.

After all during her half term as governor, she knew that Chavez had to supply home heating oil for the native villages in Alaska so that they would not freeze to death during the winter.

She had such a long list of "accomplishments".....you would have thought that she would pat herself on the back for saving the state of Alaska so much money by have Chavez foot the bill for the native villages.

Not to mention the donations of food that constantly poured in from all over the US, Europe and Canada so that the villagers would not starve as they had to choose between heating fuel and food.

She did have Samaritans Purse donate ONE time, which included the requisite written "prayer" and a pound of lard in every box, along with the rest of the unhealthy items.

Beggars can't be choosers now can they?

I imagine that because Todd's native ancestry affords them a government run healthcare plan that they are covered under, they do not feel the least bit guilty that the members of his tribe could have frozen to death if not for Chavez..

After all...........the family that grifts together....... has no moral compass, compassion or sense of decency.

Isn't it funny (not "funny ha-ha", but funny sad) how Palin supporters--unable as they are to refute the truth--always sidestep the issue itself and instead launch into some version of "libs are afraid!" or "she's going to whip you all!"

In this case, it's hypocrisy--tarnishing, if not punishable, behavior. In other cases too numerous to mention here, Mrs. Palin and gang committed actual crimes against the state. And I'd remind her dwindling supporters that getting away with one or more offenses in the past in no way guarantees lifelong immunity from prosecution, since evidence--particularly in abuse-of-power cases--is something that tends to accumulate.

Also from Palingates:

Sarah Palin described her experiences during her appearance on Saturday Night Live in 2008 in "Going Rogue" - an excerpt:

"During all this, the writers, the producers, and the campaign continued to hammer out the script. Josh Brolin, Mark Wahlberg, and the singer Adele were also on the show that night, as was director Oliver Stone, who made a cameo appearance. Unbelievably, he is a supporter of Communist dictator Hugo Chavez, who in a 2006 speech to the United Nations referred to the president of the United States as 'the devil himself.' I did not shake Stone's hand."
************
Now isn't that funny, she won't shake hands with Oliver Stone because he supports Hugo Chavez. However, she will extend her hand to Chavez when there is money in it for herself! Granny Grifter.

Here is the original story:
http://palingates.blogspot.com/2010/03/sarah-palins-newest-gig-making-mystik.html

Ms. Franke-Ruta, you wrote an earlier article in which you let Sarah Palin's statement go unchallenged that she had produced Trig's birth certificate, which she has never done. Call me old-fashioned, but I do expect real journalists to challenge such false claims.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2009/12/palin-flirts-with-obama-birth.html
"And a lot of people, well, 'You need to produce his birth certificate. You need to prove that he's your kid,' which we have done."

I suggest you read http://palingates.blogspot.com for the best and most thorough source for the many "gates" of Sarah Palin.

Why do the Palins hate America?

Actually, Palingates, which was the first blog to write about this story, is not an Alaskan blog but a European based one.

You can read their original groundbreaking story here:

Yeah. The same Alaskan blogs who claim Trig is not Sarah Palin's son. Awesome sources you got there, WaPo. I notice you're pretty much their puppet lately. Every non-controversy they stir up, you write about.

You are pathetic Trig-Truther enablers, and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Mystik lubricants also sponsored the Iron Dog as a whole this year. I guess everyone who participated love Hugo Chavez. -

They also sponsored last year's Watercross event in Tennessee -

Those communist Tennesseans.

Tesoro sponsored the Iron Dog for awhile, but I think they backed out after last year.

So Sarah "death panels" Palin speaks fondly of stealing Canadian health care when she was young, and certainly loves that Chavez/Citgo money
This woman is a liar, a hypocrite, and a soulless, money grubbing narcissist.
God, I hope soooo much that she runs in 2012!

Why should we check her schedule-all she does is lie. Why aren't you making excuses for Palin's paling around with a dictator? or is it OK as long as she gets something out of it?
Within 1 yr. she will either have a break-down, her past corrupt BS will come back on her or she's bring herself down with all her lies. She will NEVER be President, so dream on, either the Republicans or the Democrats will dig out all her skeletons.

Why this should be surprising is anybody's guess. Turns out that "America First" is just another way of saying "Me First" in Palin jargon.

I see you're just going to continue to throw everything you have at her, including the kitchen sink. Idiots...Palin is winning.

Just when you think you have seen all the faces of Sarah, she turns another one to you. She is a con artist of the first order. She undoubtedly forgets which palm she greases or rather writes on.
