At nuclear summit, Obama says progress toward Middle East peace will be "halting"

By Michael D. Shear
President Obama said progress toward Middle East peace will be "halting" and measured "not in days, not in weeks." But he promised that the United States will be "constantly present, and constantly engaged" in the peace effort.

His comments came in a news conference at the end of the nuclear summit he hosted in Washington. Obama took eight questions from reporters.

On the Israeli-Palestinian peace effort, Obama said American leadership will be important, but he quoted former Secretary of State James Baker as saying that "we can't want it more than they do."

And he predicted that progress "is not going to be run on the typical cable news, 24/7 news cycle."

Obama dodged a question about whether he would call on Israel to reveal its suspected nuclear weapons program and join the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. "I'm not going to comment on their program," Obama told the Post's Scott Wilson. "What I'm going to point to is that consistently we have encouraged all countries to become members of the NPT."

Obama was also asked about the ongoing dispute with China about their currency. He responded that the U.S. believes it is in the Chinese long-term interest to have a market-based currency, but that he does not have a timeline for any changes that might take place.

"China rightly sees the issue of currency as a sovereign issue," he said. "I think they are resistant to international pressure. It is my belief that it is actually in China's interests to achieve this rebalancing."

By the word "halting", does Obama mean that the Middle East peace process is coming to a halt? Or does he meaning that progress will on a stop-and-go basis?

Perpetual motion, surpassing the speed of light, immortality, and Middle East peace. These are a few of my favorite things.

If peace in the Middle East is vital to US national security as General Petraues and the Obama admin. claim, conflict between Jews and Palestinians must be resolved sooner than later. There are several things the Obama admin. can do to bring peace between Jews and Palestinians. One, the Obama admin. can stop giving Israel billions of US taxpayer dollars and military weapons worth millions of dollars to fight terror that Israel creates. Two, the Obama admin. can stop using its veto in the UNSC to prevent adverse action against Israel for its crimes against the Palestinians. Three, the Obama admin. can reframe from vetoing resolutions for a Palestinian State. Pres. Obama has many options to bring peace to the Middle East, he just has to use them.

President Obama may well be the smartest US President of modern times. He managed to get a major health care bill through, unheard of and previously thought impossible. He succeeded in getting the new START treaty in the works, albeit in the face of the Republican Party of No opposition, he just concluded a nuclear summit that by all accounts has moved forward the goal of nuclear non-proliferation to terrorist groups.

All the while giving enough rope to Bibi to pretty much completely hang himself.

Meanwhile, The Palestinians have been state building and intend to declare independence next year and with that in hand, I fully expect President Obama will recognize Palestine.

Stellar.

I wondered why the tea-bagging people constantly request his birth certificate, every week. When the birth certificate was produced on every news channel almost non-stop from Nov 08-Jan 09 from the time he was elected until the time he took the oath. Yet they keep saying it doesn't exist. And despite not having a lot of main stream credibility, people still follow them around the country screaming for the birth certificate again and again. After placing it into evidence, the Congress ratified him and the supreme court swore him in and yet the radicals keep screaming for the birth certificate at the top of their lungs over and over again. I don't understand it, I guess that's why they are called radicals.

OBAMA QUOTE:
“…my administration will make all information available to the American people so that they can make informed judgments and hold us accountable”

WHERE IS YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE SIR? The time has come for the President to perform his duty to THIS country and show us his birth certificate. No certificate? Then all of these constitutional crimes go away; the czars, healthcare, all of it. There are too many questions, too many doubts and he has been dodging far too long. Where there is smoke there is fire. The more people that begin asking for the proof, the less he and the major broadcast networks will be able to ignore us as they have done with so many other issues. If there is the slightest doubt in your mind then you too need to be asking. We have let the seemingly small things go and look where that has taken us. I want to talk about it because they are in cover-up mode. It would be such an easy thing for any one of us to show our birth certificate. Why is it so difficult for him? Why does he treat this country as if he is ashamed of it? Why does he treat our allies as if they are enemies? Why does he encourage Congress to ignore the will of the people? Why did his wife refer to his home country as Kenya? Why will he not release his own school records? Why does he disgracefully bow to the leaders of other countries? Why does he admire dictators from other countries? THIS IS OBAMA’S WATERGATE. There is no need to impeach someone who is not qualified to be president. Everything he has signed, ordered, or acted upon is illegal. So I ask you Mr. President: WHERE IS YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE?
