Fey returns to SNL for launch of 'Sarah Palin Network'

By Matt DeLong

Saturday Night Live alum Tina Fey returned to host the program last night, which naturally resulted in the resurrection of her Sarah Palin impersonation. On the back of Palin's recent rise as a major media figure, a black leather jacket-clad Fey announced the launch of the "Sarah Palin Network," featuring shows ranging from "Todd!" to "Hey Journalist, I Gotcha!"

You are completely right. They live in an alternate reality where Democrats are unredeemingly evil and trying to destroy America instead of just being the other party who tackles problems differently. Republicans got their chance with George W. Bush, a GOP Congress, and a conservative Supreme Court. And what did the country get in return? Two inadequately fought unfunded wars, no WMDs, Katrina-ravaged New Orleans, the illegal outing of a CIA operative and a presidential pardon for that act, a Clinton surplus turned into a doubling of the national debt, and the worst economic catastrophe since the Great Depression. In other words, utter failure. The irony is that the far right thinks that Dems are trying to destroy the country, but it’s the GOP that practically does it!

Then we have the Tea Partiers who complain that we’re being taxed to death when Obama lowered taxes for 95% of Americans and 47% of all American households pay no income taxes at all. Outside of 1988-1992, we currently have the lowest tax rates since 1931! But they won't let reality and facts keep them from their bile and hate.

I don't think I would mind bedding either of them but I'll be darned if I would want Palin for president. Palin stands at about the same level as Bush. She cannot speak coherently, her psyche is that of a backwoodsman (I'm being kind. I really meant hillbilly). She has the same understanding of world events and relationships as Bush had-none. She is a hypocrite-forcing "family values" on others when she has none herself. Perhaps she should take a walk over to Russia and enhance her ability to deal with international issues.

easttxisfreaky: Of course, only a person with no talent could write, produce and star in an award-winning TV series, star in hit movies (yes, her movies make money), and retain the affection and loyalty of the people who know her. I had the pleasure of seeing her early work at Second City in Chicago and I thought then and think now that she's among the more gifted people I've encountered. What, I wonder, have you done that would qualify you to make pronouncement's on someone else's talents?

chipgiii -- I don't call Palin stupid because I disagree with her. I disagreed with William F. Buckley, but I never called him stupid. I call Palin stupid because, time after time, she has betrayed the fact that she doesn't know the basic facts about American history, literature or civics. If she were Jewish -- and being Jewish I'm thankful she is not -- one would say her major talent is chutzpah, roughly translated into "gall with balls." I respect people who disagree with me when they bring information and understanding to the table and when I can learn something from them. I suppose I could learn from her how to shoot animals from helicopters and to skin a moose -- but these are skills I don't particularly envy.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I find Tina a 10 on all counts. But I see no real beauty, physical or mental, in Wingnut Sarah. To those who visualize Palin as a political leader, I would ask, whom would you trust with your life--or with the salvation of the remnants of the earth? I'd quickly reject Palin and cast my lot with Tina.

Tina epitomizes the ideal human being. If only everyone emulated both her body and her mind, what a world it would be! No obesity, laziness, meanness, ignorance and stupidity.

Very funny stuff - Palin and her teabagger minions are a comedy goldmine. As is the comments section - jace, see you at the voting booth in November...btw, it doesn't have a phone in it, just so you are not confused.

"If an alleged, mediocre comedian can get elected from Minnesota then she surely has a chance, too!"

*********************************************

If a woman who couldn't name ONE single Supreme court decision, had no idea how to define the Bush Doctrine, was unaware that Africa was a continent (basically couldn't pass a 6th grade open book civics exam) can be nominated for Republican VP, surely any moron can be a REPUBLICAN Vice President (even if they don't know what the role entails)

Fey should get into politics, don't you think? She'd be perfect for the job. After all, she's self-serving for nothing other than her own personal gain and her M.O., like virtually all politicians is to tear down/belittle one's competition in an attempt to build up one's self (how original and classless!). If an alleged, mediocre comedian can get elected from Minnesota then she surely has a chance, too!

Isn't it sad the we have a beautiful woman who made it all the way to the governors position in the largest state of the Union who destroyed the good ole boy network while giving every citizen of Alaska monetary compensation for oil revenues and she is vilified by the press and this totally corny comedian who thinks she is so funny. Well, this tells me the liberals view her a quite the threat. And they should.
We have the worst President we have ever had with the most inexperience ever, with the most incompetent appointees and Czars who are tax cheats and what nots with the most radical of agendas and I guess people cannot see the humor in that? Well I guess your right. That really is not that funny is it?

The hate for Palin would be amusing if not so pathetic. Attacking her personally every step of the way, these same attackers use the term "tea baggers." So who is the degenerate here? Who is really flaunting stupidity? Disagree with her positions - that's okay. Calling her stupid because you disagree? That's stupid. I understand that people think a hard work ethic, earning your way as you go, and having religious convictions is no longer reality in the USA; but some still think that charity is an individual choice, not a mandated choice, and that earning your keep is a commendable choice. And Republicans/Conservatives give more to charities than Democrats/Liberals in every study out there. And even when the incomes of conservatives are less....hmmmm so quick we are to judge.

BrianX9 -- What you don't get is that corporations don't run for the benefit of the public. They run to make short-term profits and put millions into the pockets of their officers. If they do something good for the public, it's almost incidental to their functioning, as the number of corporations who have poisoned our waters bears witness. It isn't always a matter of who is a better business person. It's about whose interests are being protected? This is the purpose of regulation -- to see to it that in the pursuit of legitimate profits something precious that belongs to us -- the American people -- doesn't get destroyed or damaged. Alas, as the recent economic crisis has proved, you can't trust these guys to police themselves. So you have to have folks deputized by us -- the public -- to keep an eye on them for our -- the public's -- benefit. Whenever I hear people make cranky talk about "the government," it seems to me that they forget that the government -- when it is doing what it is supposed to do -- is US. It's not us vs. the government. It's us vs. us to make the government respond better to expressing and acting on our needs and interests.

I guess this is where I comment on Senator Schumer's decision to outlaw airlines from charging fees for carry-on bags.
Thank goodness. I think he and the rest of the Senate would do so much better at managing the airlines than the folks doing it now. They are all such demonstrably capable businessmen, having learned to rent out their vote for fun and profit. Heck, airline execs only have years of experience and insight into the industry, but politicians have ... well, they have their anger, and their pompousness, which is all they really need to screw up air travel as bad as they screwed up phone service.

It's getting harder to parody Palin -- simply showing random clips of the real Palin would be equally funny..until you show the mobs of teabaggers cheering her every nonsensical word.

The real Sarah P is funnier because she really is making fools of the people that fall for her. Limbaugh is the same way, except that Limbaugh, even though admits he is doing satire many in his audience buy it; but With Sarah P. I have to wondder if even she doesn't have a clue and believes what she is fed. This is pathos is only srpassed by her voting bloc.

The Tina Fey bashers seem to be ill-informed, but then they are emulating their idol, Sarah, who never let lack of knowledge interfere with generating a sound-bite.

Interesting how poorly people who bash Fey spell. "There" instead of "their," "parody's" instead of "parodies." Sorry, there is an objective standard for spelling. It's not a personal choice.

Fey has picked up a ton of Emmy Awards as both performer and writer, has signed a multi-million dollar book contract and, in spite of what the ill-informed on this panel think, her movies do indeed make money.

Palin is trading on a decent gift as a performer for a not particularly discriminating audience. She can't speak well without prepared text, her grasp of history and law is desperately lacking, and she tends to alienate a lot of her staff and associates. But I wish her more power. The more seriously the Republicans take her as a political figure, the happier I get. A lot of moderate Republicans couldn't bring themselves to pull a lever and vote for her.
