Demon Sheep II: They're ba-a-a-ck

By Garance Franke-Ruta
The strangest political ad of the year has spawned a successor.

In February, California senatorial candidate Carly Fiorina (R) released an attack ad featuring a red-eyed man dressed as a sheep crawling on all fours in a meadow -- a character that opponents were quick to dub "demon sheep." The spot criticizing Republican primary opponent Tom Campbell prompted a wave of jokes and incredulous mockery, while "demon sheep" became such an online meme that it became a cartoon character of its own, as well as a presence on Twitter.

Now comes "Demon Sheep II: The Fleecing of California," a Web video produced by the Democratic Party of California and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and unleashed on the public -- or, at least, the political insiders who follow this stuff -- through the site

The new spot turns the already confusing plot of the Fiorina ad on its head and presents Fiorina as a red-eyed ewe with flowers on her head taking private jets and shearing Californians, who are also presented as sheep.

Rated X as "not suitable for most California audiences," the spot takes on Campbell and conservative GOP candidate Chuck DeVore, as well.

Very amusing political ads. Not much substance here, though... in fact, the whole exercise is one of image over substance.

Even so, very amusing.

There are many things I would not consider doing for Carly Fiorina and voting for her is one of them. Not if she was the last ewe on earth.

And next, sheep in hockey masks and carrying chainsaws, heading for the Armstrong Redwoods. Spotted owls be damned!

On two -- Campbell and Fiorna -- I agree; both are dangerous and offer nothing new.
DeVore, however, brings a new view to how to make government do good and not baa-aa-ad for its citizens. This change, however, scares those who currently exercise governmental power and policy, the Dems.
Let's elect DeVore! And stop the shearing of CA and the USA by big business and big government, both of the same flock.
