Florida GOP puts Charlie Crist painting on eBay

The Republican Party of Florida is looking to make a little profit off the defection of Gov. Charlie Crist -- by selling a portrait of the recently announced independent on eBay.

The oil painting was originally purchased for party headquarters in Tallahassee. Party officials say they paid $7,500 for the Crist portrait and a painting of former Republican Party of Florida Chairman James A. Greer.

From the description:

★Canvas is naturally sensitive to changes of temperature and humidity, just as the Charlie Crist's political convictions are subject to fluctuations in poll numbers.
★Depending upon variety of conditions, the stretch canvas may periodically lose and regain tautness, much like Charlie Crist periodically loosens or regains positions on a variety of issues.
★Ornate gold frame made of manufactured wood, similar to the fabricated conservative values of the politician depicted within.

"That painting cost Republican Party of Florida donors $7,500," said spokeswoman Katie Gordon. "It certainly seemed like a lavish expense and we'd like to recoup some of the cost."

The portrait also happens to be the focus of a possible probe into financial misappropriations by the state party.

I tried clicking on the link to the eBay auction listing, and I got one of those "this auction has been removed or is unavailable" error messages. The reporter/columnist should do a followup story on what happened/happens to the eBay auction of the Crist portrait.

To think the Official Republican Party would waste $7500 on a painting of the man who was a major GOP leader for decades --
How disgusting.
With that much they could have sent three groups of Young Republican Leaders to a deviant nude exhibit bar.
That's more in keeping with party standards.

You are seeing the major difference in the parties. Democrats allow for big tent in their party like Lieberman (independent that went against them while supporting McCain), and Stupak (held up healthcare). The Republicans are turning so right wing and scary conservative that they throw out (quickly) anyone who leans a little center. A concern for this fall elections is too many extremist right wingers getting elected. Vote for those in the middle with common sense.

A Dada Poem taken from this article--
GOP Puts Florida on eBay

By selling
off
Florida to
make profit on
eBay, the Republican

Party was paid
$7,500
in Tallahassee. And
was paid

in gold,

ornate gold manufactured of wood.
The conservatives
value
fabricated gold.

"Florida
seemed like
an
expense," said
Republican spokeswoman. "A lavish

party
happens to be financially possible."

The Florida GOP is just hurting Rubio by doing this. There are plenty of Floridians, both Republican and Democrat, who view Crist quite favorably and don't regret voting for him back in '06. Trashing Crist will rub them the wrong way and will just make Rubio look petty and bitter by association.

I guess this must be what the Democrats looked like back in '96--desperate and floundering and having no clear idea of how to make it out of the political wilderness after handing their asses handed to 'em in the previous election. Flat-out embarrassing.

As a Florida voter with an independent track record I recommend Gov. Crist because he chose to put people above politics both in governing Florida and his choice to run independent.

The GOP machine in Florida has chosen to ignor the broader base of an inclusive GOP and give into the will of the well funded faction i.e. the TEA Party. For all who wish to support sound government through efficiency, effectiveness, and compromise NOT DEAD LOCK this is your chance. Support Gov. Crist as an independent.

This also demonstrates the currently strong tendency of the republican party to try to eliminate facts and history they don't like. If they sell his portrait does it mean he was never there? For a non-reality based delusional segment of the republican party, it apparently does.

And we get the short end of the stick. They act worse than a bunch of children. Oh lets REALLY shake it up come election time.

As a Democrat I lovin' it! First the GOP pushes Crist out of the party no they rub his nose in it. I know it's against your way of doing things to think ahead but have you stopped your petty revenge for just a bit and thought about what will happen if he gets elected. He might caucus with the Democrats and deny you any chance at a majority or better yet he might caucus with the GOP and make your lives a living hell just the same way Joe Lieberman has done to the Democrats. Revenge is sweet either way for Crist.

One thing leads to another and I ended up at the Weekly Standard website. It's featuring an over-the-top racist photo of Eric Holder with his nose photo-shopped to make it look a bit more - no, make that a lot more - aboriginal. Off topic, I know, but just another sign of the corruption of the what passes for conservatism these days.

$1,600 for Crist's portrait? I've got 10 bucks and room in my bathroom over the toilet.

Besides, all the liberals here singing his praises and wanting to vote speaks volumes as to what the problem is with Crist.

I'll give the goopers my ham sandwich for it. While it doesn't say much (and for you guys, thats probably a good thing with that drill baby drill nonsense making you look even more clueless by the day) and would mount a far greater challenge to Obama in 2012 than either Palin or Romney (I checked the numbers, still not looking good however). They should probably pounce on my offer before it expires due to hunger and deliciousness.

Charlie Crist gets a big boost every time Rubio or the GOP blast him for defecting. Insiders are the Wall Street bankers of the political world. The more Crist looks like a true political vagabond, the better his chances are for beating Rubio.

The spiteful nature of the fools who have hijacked the GOP won't be lost on the electorate. Just who do they think they they're going get elected if they write off everybody to the right of and including Bob McDonnell? Jeezus!

What's next? A Tea Party challenge to Rick (The Chicken-#$%@ Gunslinger) Perry in Texas? He hasn't signed on to the Deport' Em All movement yet. Nothing is too self-destructive for the nitwits who think Glenn Beck is the new Patrick Henry.

The Florida GOP shows a complete lack of class in doing this. They compound the effect by making such comments about a man who represented them for a long time. They would have been better advised to stay silent about the painting and start to campaign in a more civil, or civilized, manner. Certainly there is plenty to say about the situation in Florida, and about Charlie Crist. However, this ability to stay on the high ground seems to be beyond their capacity and, sadly, it seems to be beyond the capacity of an increasing number of Republican spokespersons and leaders all across the nation these days. This is a sad decline from the once grand "grand old party". They are barreling to the right so fast that they are running over their own people.
