Sestak, White House still mum on alleged administration job offer

Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs refused to give further details this morning on Sestak's claim that he was offered a job last summer by the Obama administration if he would not run against Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary.

Sestak repeated his claim today, telling NBC's David Gregory that he was offered a job. But he dodged questions on the specifics, saying that "anything that goes beyond that is for others to talk about." He repeated that assertion in an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," saying that "anything beyond that just gets into politics."

Gibbs, who also appeared on "Face the Nation," said that "nothing inappropriate" happened, but would not confirm whether or not an offer was made in the first place.

In the days since Sestak's upset victory over Specter, both the White House and the two-term congressman have come under increasing pressure to provide further details on Sestak's claim.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement this week that "it is unacceptable for an administration that touts itself as the 'most transparent' in history to continue to stonewall a significant and potentially devastating accusation of political corruption."
Steele repeated his call this morning in a joint appearance with Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine.

"What did the president offer and when did he offer it?" Steele said on ABC's "This Week." He questioned whether Sestak is "lying" by saying Obama made an offer, adding that "at this point, somebody's got to come through and clarify exactly what happened."

For his part, Kaine said he had "no idea" whether Sestak was offered a job, but acknowledged that "if the question gets asked," it's something that the White House "should deal with."

Remember how Pelosi asked Democrats to sacrifice their careers and vote for Obamacare? Who is it that dares to ask people to destroy their own lives for the sake of an agenda? Obama has to have known about the bribe of a job in the administration. Millions of citizens should send in their objections, and demand impeachment of Obama.

Sestak and anyone in the Administration who might have known about this issue should be question in detail about this situation under oath. If Sestak is another dirty politician, we should not send him back to Washington.

The current Administration has been dirty from the start. Just look at the dirty, secret backroom deals used to ram healthcare into law. You can bet the current Administration wanted to get Sestak out of the way so Specter could have the best shot of winning in November. The current Administration was just paying Specter back for switching parties and making key votes to help pass laws the American people did not want. Mr. Sestak got his hands dirty with Washington politics. By doing so he made himself unfit to be a Senator. As American citizens we need to pressure all government officials to get to the bottom of this issue.

REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER…VOTE THEM OUT!!!!

"Offering someone a job, before they entered a Senate race, is not illegal, immoral, impeachable, criminal, corrupt, or any of the other things you nut jobs are asserting. Please all of you, get back on your meds."

I think you are insane..perhaps you should read federal law. Offering someone a job to specifically affect the outcome of an election is VERY ILLEGAL. Even the dems ive seen on TV are saying it.

I really do not mind small time scandals and special favors, in fact I think it's kind of cool. I would hate to see our society creep into a locked boyscout-like nightmare where folks are afraid to accept a glass of water because it's not authorized on the public record.

Heck, I know a guy at work who refused to accept a drink offered at a business luncheon because he was uncertain if it met the company guidelines on cost expensing. We're talking $4 on a $200 tab, big deal. What a boyscout-tard this guy is. I swear, corporate Americas are turning into robotic-Stepford people.

This administration has gone too far.

1. This administration breaks laws of this country and snifs about it as if they do not have to keep our laws.

2. This administration breaks Constitutional laws of this country and scoffs about it as if they do not have to keep our Constitutional laws.

3. The administration has just announced it will give away Top Secret NATO Secrets and information to the world, at will, concerning U.S. Military missile testing and containment.
OMG! What in heck is going on. Proof, Obama is trying to destroy America?

4. This administration has deliberately thwarted the will of the American people on Health Care Reform, all the bailouts of the banks, UNIONS, GM, Chrysler, UNIONS, ACORN, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, UNIONS, SEIU, etc., and the list goes on. Education reform...

5. This administration has deliberately made derogatory remarks about our great country to the world at large and 'we the people' on a regular basis, blaming America for the woes of the world and being bullies to other countries. Never has this administration praised this country for re-building Japan, rebuilding France, re-building England and all the aid and assistance America has given to just about every country in this entire world.

6. THIS ADMINISTRATION HAS LIED TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND SPREAD FEAR AND MISINFORMATION ABOUT ARIZONA'S LAW ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, TELLING PEOPLE LIES THAT THEY WILL BE PICKED UP FOR THEIR RACE ONLY. LIE LIE LIE AND THIS FROM OUR PRESIDENT.

"White House still mum on alleged administration job offer"
========================================

The fact that the White House has not responded to this claim is all the proof that is needed to know they tried to bribe a candidate from not running in an election. How illegal is that? Far worse than anything Bush ever did! A straight out bribe! LOL, Obama has sunk to a new low. I wonder how Obama will try to blame Bush for this..LOL!!

Yes, and Obama is involved in Blago's case, too. He contradicted his own testimony and that of his co-horts involved in that case.

But, as I said below don't hold your breath waiting for Fitzgerald to implicate Obama in Blago's case. Fitzgerald also conveniently ignored Obama's part in the Rezko trial, too.

One of these days it will all catch up to Obama. I just hope I'm still around to see that happen.

This administration is the most corrupt and dangerous of any in the history of this nation.

I certainly hope that many of you who voted for Obama now see through his lies and will help do what is needed to save this nation from the oncoming economic disaster that could easily reduce almost all of us to abject poverty.

Obama brought his "Chicago Way" of doing business to the White House.

That job offer to Sestak is a felony.

But don't hold your breath waiting for Holder and the Justice Department to commence an investigation.

Rep. Issa and two other Congressman have requested info on this from the White House repeatedly and they have stonewalled them.

I think if Rep. Issa impressed upon Sestak that withholding evidence, in what appears to be a felony, is obstruction of justice.

But then Obama and the Justice Department have placed themselves above the law and we will have to wait till the Republicans are again the majority in Congress before we can initiate an investigation. Hopefully with Kenneth Starr.

joesmihdefend, you could not be more wrong. sestak already HAS come forward. we don't need to know what job was offered to him, and he's not siding with the white house... he just OUTED them!

sestak already did the honorable thing by blowing the whistle on white house interference in a senate primary race. the white house approached sestak MONTHS ago, threatened and cajoled him, and he could not be bought. so the white house set out to undermine sestak's senate campaign. it didn't work, another failure for obama the magnificent.

sestak will be elected pennsylvania's next senator, and deservedly so.

as for obama & co., i can only hope we see a presidential primary challenge from within the democratic party in 2012. there's a whole lot of buyer's remorse out there in the democratic party....

are you listening, hillary?

Sestak said his victory was driven by the fact that people have "lost faith in Washington, D.C." He said his campaign was about demonstrating to people it was about their jobs, not his.

It's about "trying to regain their trust.

And that is true what he said I must say I like him so far maybe Obama can listen to this guy

Posted by: farmsnorton | May 23, 2010 2:42 PM | Report abuse

with this white house, everything is for sale or swap.

just wait until after the midterm election results are in. defeated dems who stood by obama will be scrambling like mad to get any and all available executive branch appointments. this is especially true for those members of congress who fell on their swords for obama/pelosi/reid in the matter of healthcare overhaul.

but WAIT, we know that there's at least ONE job offer that has been extended but not yet announced, so that one won't be avialable: it's the plum appointment that was offered to bart stupak for bringing in 6-9 desperately needed 11th-hour healthcare votes so that the american people could get properly screwed by congress and the white house.

forget about transparency and let's concentrate on what all of this chicanery is going to co$t us.

Posted by: SufferNoFool | May 23, 2010 2:12 PM | Report abuse

Why should this be an issue at all, when Washington DC culture or rather the two party Washington DC culture status quo has always been patronage favors of job offers and more. The whole political culture in this nation is set up on such on bribes, favors, campaign contributions, deals made under the table, Congressmen / Women, Senators offered committee Chairs and assignment for vote, not to mention the corrupt to the hilt PAC, Lobbyists and others.
