A bureau by any other name wouldn't smell as sweet

By Al Kamen

To paraphrase the Bard: What's in an acronym? Apparently a lot of oil.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar last week reorganized and renamed the old Minerals Management Service (MMS) as the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Regulation and Enforcement. An announcement and its new chief, Michael R. Bromwich, called it the Bureau of Energy or BOE for short.

Next thing you know, the newly named agency's acting associate director for administration and budget sent an e-mail to top officials insisting that, "BOE should not be used" and, "until further notice, the abbreviation BOEMRE should be not be used."

A few hours ago, we got a press release from Interior now using the acronym BOEM for the new bureau. This is much better, since BOE, in the oil and gas world, is an acronym that means "barrel of oil equivalent," used to summarize the amount of energy that is equivalent to the amount found in a barrel of crude.

Besides, it could be pronounced "boom," reminding us of the deadly oil rig explosion that killed 11 workers and started this godawful mess.

Barry the incompetent boob Obama thinks he can play "rename the agency" and absolve himself from responsibility.

It is Barry the inept bungler's government agency, the MMS, that issued drilling permits on his watch to the exploded oil right WITHOUT SAFETY INSPECTIONS.

As a result of lack of oversight by the Obama administration the rig exploded killing 11 men, and continues to spill two million gallons per day of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Miserable failure Obama

You got to be kidding. A pile of crap still stinks the same regardless of the name. .... On a serious not, how much did that cost the tax payers for new headings on stationary, signs, issued cloths, changes in mailings, changes in email and computer data bases and on and on..... Salazar is the north end of a south bound mule.
