Obama to address the nation on BP oil spill

By Anne E. Kornblut
President Obama will give an address to the nation on the BP oil spill this week, delivering remarks Tuesday night at the end of a two-day trip to the Gulf region.

In the address from the White House, Obama will map out the government's next steps, senior adviser David Axelrod said on NBC's Meet the Press. He is expected to announce plans requiring BP to put billions into an escrow account to be used for compensating victims. "We want to make sure that money is escrowed for the legitimate claims," Axelrod said.

Asked about a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll showing public dissatisfaction with the federal response to the oil spill, now nearly two months old, Axelrod said it cannot be compared to a single-moment event such as a hurricane. "This is an ongoing crisis, much like an epidemic," he said.

Obama is making his fourth trip to the Gulf on Monday, visiting Florida, Mississippi and Alabama and, for the first time since the oil rig exploded and sank, making it an overnight trip.

As we approach the second anniversary of when Obama began to lower the ocean levels, I for one hope that he will be able to lower them enough to keep the oil away from us.

Obama has been a lot of talk, and VERY LITTLE ACTION

Questions are:

*Will he announce a return of the $900,000+ campaign contribution he received from BP?

*Will he announce a ‘fast track’ system for Governors in the affected states to get their requirements through the federal bureaucracy in time for their efforts to be effective?

*Will he announce a waiver of an old law precluding foreign vessels to operate in US waters, to enable a vast increase of skimmers in the Gulf? (Or, will the unions preclude him from taking action to assist the folks in the Gulf??????)

*Will he announce a ‘fast track’ system to inspect off shore drill rigs, to have the inspections completed not later than end July, where the thousands of oil field, and allied workers can GET BACK TO WORK?

*Will he announce that FEMA will finally be engaged (after nearly two months)

Mr. Axelrod was telling tall tales on the talk shows Sunday (June 13) when he said that Team Obama had acted in ‘HISTORIC FASHION” to the spill. The only thing that Obama has done the past couple of months is TAKE TWO VACATIONS IN LESS THAN TWO MONTHS, AND PLAY A HECK OF A LOT OF GOLF!!

Yeah, right. All it will be is more self serving, arrogant, condescending B.S. from this embarrassing incompetent leftist slug.

It's an attempt to portray him as something he isn't. Capable, competent, accomplished and a leader. None of these terms accurately describes the dishonest clown.

Thanks, but no thanks. I won't waste my time watching it.

-------------------------------------------Axlerod is obviously commenting on the "Barry Soetoro" administration (more commonly called, the Democratic Party Bowel Movement)- "on going crisis - epidemic". It is refreshing to see an administration official being so candid about the crisis he is so much a part of. No doubt if he ever recovers from the 'epidemic', he'll simply put it down to hallucinations. Tell us David, do you attend prayer meetings with Barry each day. And if so, do you orient your prayer mat towards Mecca, or the White House????

And I am certain the people of New Orleans will be very happy indeed to know that Katrina was just a 'single momenmt event'.. Some of them are obviously just not as astute as you. Some of them think it is still an ongoing event. Maybe you should go down there and confront them and explain that to them. While you are down there, why not 'ride herd' a little. And 'kick some ass' while you are at it. Just to prove you are just as tough as your Messiah, Barry.

What happens when countries have to Declare War on Global Corporations Destroying their resources?

At some Point this Oil Gusher will Destroy Resources belonging to Mexico and Cuba. Will they Declare War on BP, Bomb their Platforms, Freeze their Assets (BP is just an Oil Exploration Bank after all) and take their Executives and Employees as Prisoners of War? They would be within their Rights to do so though Mexico allowed a Massive spill in the Gulf and Did Not Pay Reparations to the USA.

Order SuperTankers to Suck up the Oil, Barges and Skimmers with Vacuums, Pumps and Seperators to Suck up the Oil, A Million Man Effort to Clean up the Oil, ... What's taking so Dam... long!!! Remove BP from Cleanup Operation!!! They are the Criminals!! The USA should hire Private Companies to do it and Bill all Expenses to BP.

Posted by: liveride | June 13, 2010 11:20 PM | Report abuse

BP has Billions set aside for Stock Dividends. If BP doesn't set aside $25~$100 Billion for Initial Reparations to the USA: Place BP's American Operations in "Temporary Receivership". This will Force them to work for the American People First ahead of shareholders. We can insure they Stop and Clean Up the “Oil Eruption/Flood”, Insure "Transparency" in How Much Oil has been Flooding the Gulf (Filmed in 3D by Cameron's Deep Sea Teams), and Stop them from giving away $10 Billion in annual Dividends as they are planning on Doing Right Now.

BP executives are still Lying about Oil Spill Rates, Lying about Oil Plums, Lying about Intimidating Cleanup Workers from discussing the spill, and Nickel and Diming Cleanup and Reparations while setting aside Billions for Stockholder Dividends. This Oil spill is an Attack on America and these guys should be arrested Immediately.

Eric Holder; get off your lazy butt and Arrest the BP Executives and Lawyers that are destroying the Gulf Coast and Constantly Lying and Withholding Evidence. The Oil Gusher is a National Man Made Terrorist Disaster perpetuated by BP. You don’t ask Drug Dealers to Treat Victems of the Drugs they’ve sold, you Don’t Ask Terrorists to clean up the Body Parts of people they’ve Killed, you don’t let Madoff to keep Swindling Investors, and you Don’t Allow BP Executives who have Lied from Day One about Oil Spill rates and What’s Needed to Stop and Clean the Spill to keep Obstructing Operations.

Prosecution and Jail for all BP and MMS Managers Responsible for the Oil Flood/Eruption and Fine BP Wrath of God Money ($100~400 Billion) as that is the Only thing that will force these Companies to stop;

* Falsifying, inspections,
* Neglecting key safety equipment,
* Failing to perform key checks and maintenance, and
* Harassing and Intimidating workers, and whistleblowers.

There is the Cost for Cleanup ($60~$100 Billion), Cost for Decades of Lost Income of USA and Gulf Coast Residents ($100 Billion) and the Cost for Criminal Negligence (Double these two Costs: $320~400 Billion).

Posted by: liveride | June 13, 2010 10:46 PM | Report abuse

We need a Massively Larger Effort to clean up this Oil Gusher than is currently happening as well as SuperTankers, Barges, Skimmers and Dreging equipment from Overseas Allies, Oil Pumps, Vacuums and Seperators, Smart Oil Absorbing sponges, and Millions of Oil Absorbing Hay Bales to lines beaches. This takes people and money that I Do Not See Mobilized yet.

1. Order BP to Bring in Oil SuperTankers to suck in the Oil and Post Smaller Skimmer Boats closer to the Shore to get out of their way.

2. Order Barges to serve as Barrier Walls with Suction Pumps and Separators to Suck the Oil off the water and Dispose of it in Refineries along the coast.

3. Order a Million Man effort to lay Millions of Oil Absorbing Hay Bales and Smart Sponges ( http://www.abtechindustries.com/ ) which Absorb Oil while Repelling Water and Float for easy retrieval, and use Vacuums to suck up on shore Oil.

4. Order BP to allow Woods Hole Scientists to do a scientific analysis of the Oil Gusher into the Gulf. Woods Hole scientists estimate the spill to be 100,000 barrels a day from three separate points.

5. Accept offers from Overseas Allies for Skimmers, Supertankers, Barges, Booms, etc.,

We (The USA, Obama, Congress, Senate, FEMA, Coast Guard, National Guards,) must Take Over Clean Up Operations from BP and Mobilize a Million Man/Woman Oil Spill Clean Up Job Corps with Hazmat suits, Oil Vacuums and Training paid for by BP.

Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and other States will need them soon, as well as Millions of Hay Bales. This includes Salaries, Transportation, Equipment and Accommodations all billed to BP. The regions hotels suffering from Cancelations could use the business, and the country needs both the Jobs and the Clean Up.

Bill BP for the Clean up costs Weekly even if it’s $1 Billion a week. "Get the Money and Clean it UP". The Longer it takes to Stop, the Longer they Pay for the Damage.

The idiots who are screaming at Obama to "do something" are the same ones who were screaming "Drill, baby, drill!" the day before the BP spill. Ask them what they want him to do to stop the spill and you get . . . silence.

Conservatives (like Bobby Jindal) are all deeply dishonest and dishonorable creatures. They have been yelling at Obama for months that he is trying to make government do too much. Now they yell that he is doing too little. They want a country in which government does nothing to interfere with corporations - but when corporations take insane risks for profit and cause a disaster, they want government to swoop in and make everything all right again! They have dragged America down to its present degradation - down to their filthy level.

NEWSFLASH, White House - Yesterday, Presidente O'bama addressed a critic who made the allegation that O'bama couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag, much less lead a disaster recovery effort such as the oil leak in the Gulf Coast.

The Presidente had his Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel wet a paper bag and put it on the White House lawn, and then he entered it and then asked his Chief of Staff to seal it.

With safety crews and secret service standing by, the Presidente attempted his escape. That was 24 hours ago, and the Presidente has recently called out, "I almost got it.. give me a little more time.. I'm almost there.. "

BP HELPED WRITE THE CLIMATE BILL!
BP HELPED WRITE THE CLIMATE BILL!

DOES THAT RAISE A RED FLAG WITH ANYONE?

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell charges that the energy company BP helped craft the cap-and-trade bill proposed by Democratic Sens. John Kerry and Joe Lieberman.

“The problem for Democrats is that debating the Democrat cap-and-trade bill might not fit neatly into the White House messaging plan since it’s been widely reported that a major part, a major part of the Kerry-Lieberman bill was essentially written by BP,” the Kentucky Republican said on the Senate floor on Wednesday, referring to the company responsible for the massive and ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

“Let me say that again. A major part of the Kerry-Lieberman bill was written by BP. This is clearly an inconvenient fact,” McConnell emphasized.

Congress is debating a compromise global warming bill — a watered-down version of earlier climate change bills — introduced in May by Kerry and Lieberman after the oil rig explosion in April. It would tax businesses for carbon emissions and raise the cost of fuel for American consumers, CNS News reports.

McConnell also charged that Democrats are trying to “piggy-back” the climate change legislation into a bill under consideration to deal with future oil spills.

“An administration that seems to spend most of its time coming up with new ways to show how angry it is at BP is pushing a proposal that BP actually helped write,” said McConnell. “I can’t understand it, and I don’t think the American people will understand why it makes sense to respond to the BP oil spill by imposing a gas-tax increase on the American people that was advocated by BP.”

When asked by CNS News about McConnell’s assertion that a major part of the Kerry-Lieberman bill was essentially written by BP, Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, the top Republican on the Committee on Environment and Public Works, said, “I believe that’s true.”

Obama can recover some of the election shine of being an up front guy. Rather than continuing to shuck and jive, Obama should tell the American public that BP has been a major contributor to Obama and was the second largest contributor to his presidential run. Obama should state that he will put that money into the Government recovery of the states that are about to be decimated. Obama should also advise the American people that this drilling was approved on his watch by people under his control.

Further, Obama needs to advise the people that this is still a situation that has unknown parts, such as what the damage is at the sea floor and the formations that are punched into, and the pressures and contents of the escaping elements. Rather than divert Attention to revenge and blame shift (there is time left for that) he needs to announce the PLANS that he is putting into place that will deal with the destruction of the Gulf of Mexico, and the impact of the land areas around it (like the US and Mexico). The upcoming health calamity alone is worth a comprehensive plan---- all ignored. This is indeed the moment that Obama can become the man of the Century, or continue on his path to our down fall. The Buck stops with Obama; and I for one have great fear that this will become the greatest man made disaster of human history.

It is worth noting that "the BabeNero" is so representative of the great "Obama Movement" (more accurately described as the Demovratic Party Bowel Movement). Representative not only in logic (logic?????), but in name as well. For those even remotely interested in history, Nero was the Emperor who "fiddled while Rome burned". Well how apropriate. Only the analagy to Obama is not quite accurate. Oh, America is in fact "burning". But Obama is not just "fiddling", he is in fact "orchestrating". That in itself is not the real root of the problem. It is the size of the audience that is scarry. When an incompetant Chicago hoodlum can garner a 40% + support base, then no matter how much money gets thrown at "firemen", there will be no putting out this fire. It is like the oil spill. It will require a relief well - a kill well -to fix this disaster. And for those morons out there who would just love to misinterpret that, it means this administration has to be removed from office (killed rhetorically) in order to fix this disaster (this Democrat administration).

*Will he also announce that he will provide a waiver for foreign vessels to immediately begin scimming the oil off the water, OR will he kow tow to the unions and delay the decision longer -- at the expense of all in the Gulf??

*Will he announce a schedule of inspecting the deep water wells where thousands can go back to work, or will he outsource the time line to his bureaucrats, while he sits and DITHERS?

let's be clear.
The President will not talk about Palin.
He will be direct and to the point.
He will state facts.
This President is no slouch. And if you have been following the problems we have had with Congress voting, with other disasters (Haiti, economy, housing, jobs) or "close to disaster" (recession depression and now a double dip),
and really knew of his responses, you would not insult so quickly. You would acknowledge that this President is working hard everyday and what he says is true. You people even get mad when he said a^%. And I don't even want to hear if he a vacation for 3 days somewhere.
What? every one of you that work have a 2 day weekend to "shake off" the week.
You won't allow a President, that is aging before our eyes (and you can tell it) take a couple days off too. While Congress does their recesses.
Look to our wonderful Congress for action. The President has already done ALOT

While Congress went on vacation, they left the Deepwater Oil Spill in the lurch. They didn't care on bit for the vote.

Thank you again BabeNero for your wonderfull insight. The Congress (both Houses), genius, are controlled by your intellectual equals - Democrats. They managed to force sittings to lie, bribe, cajoll, and threaten in order to pass the Health Care Destruction bill, but are going home on recess, to your apparent disgust now.

And your poor hero, needs to rest after all that "kicking ass" and "riding herd".

QUOTE OF THE CENTURY……….MAYBE EVEN THE MILLENIUM

This quotation came from the Czech Republic . Someone over there has it figured out. We have a lot of work to do here.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

I've written on several occasions that we need to inject polymerizing agents and catalysts deep into the well and let them coagulate the oil into a hard plastic that will plug up the hole.

-------------------------------------------

Do you think you could take your revolutionary "polymerizing agents and cataysts" and make them into a supository. Then courier it to the president (don't forget to include specific instructions). He could use it to plug his hole. Then maybe with him silenced, and no longer "riding herd', the 'herd' can recover from being scattered all over, and get on with the job at hand in a bit of peace and quite.

Instead of "kick ass", it would be "stick it in your ass"

Wow, conservatives are upset the government hasn't saved their precious Gulf? That would generate some empathy if it weren't for the fact they have had a reflexive reaction to environmental regulation resulting in thousands of miles of oil & gas lanes that destroyed hundreds of square miles of LA marshes; flipping out over the current deep water drilling moratorium; cheering Texas refineries on to keep thumbing their nose at EPA air regulations; opposing a cohesive national energy policy; voluntary compliance--the list is long and pathetic.

The right wing views compassion and treating their fellow Americans with respect as weakness, even unpatriotic. I don't trust their anger and that is borne out in the evidence cheering on this catastrophe as a political opportunity for congressional seats, not a chance to show their mettle and extend a hand to another human being without expecting it to be greased with filthy lucre.

REQUEST YOUR SENATORS & CONGRESSMEN TO INVITE ME TO TESTIFY & FACE HAYWARD TO IMPLEMENT THIS SOLUTION TO END THE NIGHTMARE INSTANTLY

As an expert in oilfields in the Middle East, I've already offered BP the following simple technique that can instantly plug the well. Though BP admitted it can work, it wouldn't implement it because it will kill the Well, but it still hopes to exploit it!

PLUGGING BP WELL BY A STRING OF CEMENT-FILLED CASING PIPES:

{BP has to lower down the wellbore through the Riser Pipe Stub and the Blowout Preventer a string of 16"- 18" Casing Pipes connected together about 500-1000 ft long after being filled with cement. BP Well will instantly be plugged and there will be no need for the Relief Wells. They have a big assortment of Casing Pipes onboard their platform in the Gulf. The annular space between the Casing Pipe String and the well walls can be filled by pumping cement. The whole operation will take few hours}

and really knew of his responses, you would not insult so quickly. You would acknowledge that this President is working hard everyday and what he says is true. You people even get mad when he said a^%. And I don't even want to hear if he a vacation for 3 days somewhere.
What? every one of you that work have a 2 day weekend to "shake off" the week.

President Obama has already made clear that he takes responsibility and the buck stops with him. It was the Rose Garden speech of about 10 days ago.

But make no mistake. This was BP's fault. BP's fault....do any of you understand that?

The coordination the President has put forth since Day One on this was fought by BP. They held hostage the fact (and almost shoved it down the administration's throat) that the machines were THEIRS...
did not want to listen to the Coast Guard at all. Not until Thad Allen, NIT Commander, took hold did BP start doing anything.

This oil spill is BP's fault. Follow?

Our Congressional response could have been better but no, they want to go slow so the President gets blamed. Go on vacation Congress, it's okay!!!!!

He's already accepted responsibility.
And he's done a great job of coordination of Coast Guard, National Guard, Area Response Teams, Region Teams; and made sure they all report on the same page to Thad Allen. He tripled the resources going to the area, from vessels to manpower, to engineers and scientists.

What would Bush have done folks?
Answer that question? I want to know.
What would Bush have done??

This President has more on his table than any other President since FDR.

And you da** well know it.

OPA, among other things, amended Section 311 of the federal Clean Water Act. Section 311 now provides in part that:

(A) If a discharge, or a substantial threat of a discharge, of oil or a hazardous substance from a vessel, offshore facility, or onshore facility is of such a size or character as to be a substantial threat to the public health or welfare of the United States (including but not limited to fish, shellfish, wildlife, other natural resources, and the public and private beaches and shorelines of the United States), the President shall direct all Federal, State, and private actions to remove the discharge or to mitigate or prevent the threat of the discharge.

We want to send someone to Mars. Right. Before we spen another cent on NASA we need to get it together on this planet first, and fast. We can't even send someone to the bottom of the gulf to fix this snafubar.

I've written on several occasions that we need to inject polymerizing agents and catalysts deep into the well and let them coagulate the oil into a hard plastic that will plug up the hole. Afterwards we can put a proper well head on, next bore out the hole to draw off the oil, and use the proceeds from the well to pay compensation and cleanup bills. It looks like the US Government had better get into the oil business and tell BP to take their BS elsewhere. We can tell Halliburton and Cheney the same and in the same breath.

I am appalled by the hatred and outright racism ("trained monkey...") being directed toward President Obama. THIS OIL SPILL IS NOT HIS FAULT. Nor is the stupidity of BP's response to it. I am not completely happy with what he is doing- I wish he was taking more aggressive action toward the continued use of extremely toxic dispersants -and I also would have liked to have seen a tougher approach to the tactics that BP has employed to limit media access to this disaster. But if y'all think a Republican could have handled this disaster better, you're sadly mistaken. No one could have handled this disaster any better than President Obama has. But that's all right - I am fully confident that because of the remarkable selfishness and short-sightedness of the American people that President Obama will be defeated in 2012 and we will have another delusion moron like we had from 2000-2008. I agree with Art. I am so disappointed in Obama. We need a competent Pres for this disaster and Obama isn't it!

Those who wish to assign blame to this President about the oil spill live in a fantasy world. Our government has no resources available to deal with the amount of oil swirling in the gulf. BP has some resources, but the resources to stop the spill at depth of 5000 feet have not been invented.

This is a terrible disaster, we all will suffer for tens of years to come.

The Republican oil drilling madness now has us dependent on foreign seafood.

I agree totally. After the midterm elections maybe we can impeach the teleprompter-reading monkey. Why wait until 2012 to lance this boil?

Team Obama still believes this is now a matter of remuneration and punishment.

It's not that simple.

It's a matter of annihilation. Generations of people in the US will suffer grievously as the ocean's fragile ecosystem is slowly destroyed.

This a catastrophy requiring a full national emergency and a war requiring every available resource and technology to plug that leak. And that's what the people need to hear.

Obama's getting attacked from the NeoCon wing of the Republic Party because he's stopping Cheney's move to corporatism, while the left wing is mad at him for ignoring or soft-peddling some of their pet issues, such as "Don't ask don't tell."

I'm just thankful we have a real president again instead of a slow-witted stooge of the NeoCons, such as Raygun and the Dumyas. The Cheney corporate gang took over the Republic Party's power structure after they ousted Nixon in 1974. If that's what you rightwingers want, go for it. The corporate bunch will never be reelected after their blatant looting of the government and middle class since Raygun.

Another step in the public relations makeover of The obama. First it was "plug the dam hole" (what a great idea and a new one too!) to "I'm going to kick some adz" to visiting the area again (and again tying things up instead of allowing the work to go on) to a "speech". My only question is, will that be with or without a sides of teleprompter?

"We want to make sure that money is escrowed for the legitimate claims," Axelrod said

Would a waiter, waitress or bartender in a Florida beach town have a legitimate claim when their customers are gone?

The federal government will restrict who is going to get the money. Hospitality workers will suffer, and have no claim to the BP escrow.

BP will file bankruptsy and leave the US hanging.

BP should pay much more towards the CLEAN UP and they need to do it NOW while the oil is still in the same general area and isn't dispersed all over the ocean. In America, sleazy, greedy, oil company people, Republicans, are literally destroying our oceans while they rake in the big money! It seems with BP's dispersant methods they just want to break up the oil and leave it in the water. They need to do a whole lot more to clean the toxic oil mess up in the water, on all of the beaches and in the marshes. While we are at it what about Halliburton? they contracted with BP and poured the concrete to cap this well just before it exploded? and the cap was found to be insufficient to save money?! and all the rich, greedy, ignorant, fat Republicans that are in and invest in the same multi billion dollar oil business who deregulated and eased restrictions for BP? until the American people and voters learn and wake up to who is really behind all this mess, the USA is doomed.

Obama is on television so much that their should be a special television channel, we'll call it the Obama channel, dedicated only to him.
This way it would be much easier to tune him out.
We get enough B.S. on Comedy Central.

if bp is to answer for the problems they have caused then take them to court.why all this name calling and use of vulgarity like kicking a__?

President Obama is going to address the nation? You mean in addition to his average of two speeches a day?

All talk no action, emblematic of a neighborhood organizer: cast blame, characterize as villains and then slander the "accused" while offering no concrete solutions.

So as far as the President addressing the nation on Tuesday? Who cares?!!! We will hear BP is a villain, blah blah blah, Capitalism is a villain, blah blah blah, he and the punks in the White House are going to kick their ass, blah blah blah

The only people throughout this who have been consistent have been BP. All the US government agencies have shown they haven't a clue about the risks involved in offshore drilling ..... especially when you hire american companies who are used to getting away with spilling oil all over someone else's beaches with impunity. WE see shrimp boat owners and other fishermen on TV every day say they are making more in a days compensation for doing nothing than they made in a normal week so where is the justice in that? These people were overfishing the area year after year with numbers of fish landed dropping every year so why are we rewarding the real perpetrators of the disaster in the Gulf, american fishing fleets?

I had a lot of time for Obama before this, I have absolutely none for him now, he is a coward who tried to play to the gallery at the expense of the Truth.

The best thing the doofus in the WH could do Tuesday night would be to announce his immediate resignation. Please admit to the nation Obama you are unfit to lead this country. You fooled many people when elected but the people who elected you have finally awaken. You are a disgrace to the office!!!! I'm sure you won't resign so we will start with the mid term elections and I for one can't wait for your departure back to Chicago in 2012....

Even a cursory overview of the energy industry, whether nuclear, fossil fuel or hydroelectric, will yield a staggering number of human andenvironmental "tragedies"

Perhaps it is time to stop assigning blame, worrying about rewards and compensation from litigation and ask whether we've learned anything from these repeated disasters. Is it not unreasonable to assume that tapping into the earth's resources 5000 feet beneath the ocean in region noted for severe storms can be made "safe and foolproof" Is it reasonable to place nuclear plants in metropolitan areas? (or anyplace else for that matter) Is it fair to take no responsibility for that which we will bequeath to our heirs?

It seems clear to me, especially now after seeing the High Def video today on abc world news (and they must be discussing this at BP I would hope after also seeing it in HD), that even a game developer like me could, if given the best guesstimate of the dimensions by experts analyzing the HD footage, I could easily design a gigantic massively heavy near exact match inverted funnel thingamabobber, that when constructed by, um NASA would easily contain it. (whoa run-on sentence of the century) It could easily be designed now in 3D Studio Max, or blender by me or one of my four sons and work better than golf balls hehheh. Just my $0.02, I hope BP isn't as think as they stupid I look. :'('''''

Steffy: U.S. and BP slow to accept Dutch expertise

By LOREN STEFFY Copyright 2010 Houston Chronicle
June 8, 2010, 10:13PM

Three days after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, the Dutch government offered to help.
It was willing to provide ships outfitted with oil-skimming booms, and it proposed a plan for building sand barriers to protect sensitive marshlands.

The response from the Obama administration and BP, which are coordinating the cleanup: “The embassy got a nice letter from the administration that said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,'” said Geert Visser, consul general for the Netherlands in Houston.

Now, almost seven weeks later, as the oil spewing from the battered well spreads across the Gulf and soils pristine beaches and coastline, BP and our government have reconsidered.

U.S. ships are being outfitted this week with four pairs of the skimming booms airlifted from the Netherlands and should be deployed within days. Each pair can process 5 million gallons of water a day, removing 20,000 tons of oil and sludge.

FLOWIN' IN THE GULF (To the tune of Blowin' In The Wind)
-------------------

How many roads must a man drive down, before you call him a man?

How many seas must a pelican sail, before she can sleep in clean sand?

Yes and how many times must oil be spilled, before it is forever banned?

Refrain:

The answer my friend, is flowin' in the gulf,
The answer is flowing in the gulf.

Yes and how many years can an oil rig exist, before it fails you and me?

Yes and how many years can some people exist, in a world of dying seas?

Yes and how many many times can you turn your head, and pretend that you just don't see?

(Refrain)

Yes and how many times must a man look up, before he can see a clear sky?

Yes and how many ears must one man have, before he can hear seabirds cry?

Yes and how many deaths will take till he knows, that too many creatures have died?

(Refrain)

Barry the incompetent boob Obama went 334 days without a press conference (a new presidential record) until he was shamed into it. Barry did however find time to take two vacations after the deadly explosion and oil spill. Now Barry the inept bungler who has not spoken to Americans in who know how long (a year?) is going to waste your time with another snoozefest.
