Bachmann holds a rally of her own

By Emi Kolawole
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) hosted her own rally Saturday at the Washington Monument. The event coincided with high-profile gatherings organized by Fox News host Glenn Beck and civil rights leader Al Sharpton.

On a day when crowd estimates could provide their respective groups with political clout, Bachmann asked her audience how many thought more than 1 million people were in attendance. The question was met by big cheers from the gathering of about 1,000. "We're not going let anyone get away with saying there were less than a million here today because we were witnesses," Bachmann said.

The Republican lawmaker also took the opportunity to list members of the House Tea Party Caucus, which she chairs. When she reached the name of Rep. Joe Wilson, best known for shouting "you lie" during President Obama's address to Congress, the crowd started chanting "you lie."

Bachman told the crowd that her campaign was paying for the event, which she called a town hall meeting. Bachmann was then followed by a series of speakers.

Although the crowd was overwhelmingly white, the dais showcased a diverse group including a black woman, a black man, a white man and a Hispanic man.

Bachman got applause and cheers when she ran through a list of conservative candidates for Congress, including Senate candidates Marco Rubio in Florida, Rand Paul in Kentucky, Sharron Angle in Nevada and Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania. Bachmann also mentioned former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina -- who is running against longtime Senate incumbent Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) -- saying, "Bye-bye, Barbara. Hello, Carly."

The rally disbanded to the strains of Tom Jones's "She's a Lady."

Bachmann, I love you and I pray for the USA and you and I pray to save our country form the mentally disabled people who suffer from liberalism and progressivism. I pray that freedom and liberty will once against ring here in the USA and we will rid ourselves of the radical mentally disabled tyrants in Washington!

he 87,000 estimate was right on target. If you have been to DC before you know that the only way to get to one of these events is by Metrorail. There is NO PARKING whatsoever and it's a long walk from the nearby hotels or from VA or MD. So, you almost have to ride the subway.

The official subway numbers for Saturday were 161,407 one way trips above average for that day. Since you have to get back, that equals 80,703 round trips.

So thank you CBS for getting it right. Now, back to the whining.

you state with certainty that the size of the crowd was: and then you give a range from one number to more than double that number. That practically says "we don't have any idea how to estimate a crowd."

I'm certain it was somewhere between 10 and a zillion, too, but what kind of an estimate is 300K-650K?

Actually, you are just repeating Beck's own "guestimate." Palin's was 100K, just at the topside of the estimate CBS paid a professional company to make as accurately as possible (you don't need to pay for a biased one - you just make it up), using computer algorithms from the aerial photos. Bachman is a lunatic.

A million people, Ms. Bachmann? Very well, now we know the number of fools willing to have their pockets picked by two grifters feigning greatness on the same steps where a great American hero, Martin Luther King, actually stood. Pathetic.

I've read numerous reports that said the crowd at Beck's rally was "predominantly white" etc. Did any reporter notice the crowd at Sharpton's counter rally was predomonantly black?

Posted by: topcopy | August 29, 2010 5:43 PM | Report abuse

Whatever, Ms. Bachmann. If there were a million people at the Lincoln Memorial for Beck's "I Have a Scheme" speech then there were at least 10 million at President Obama's inauguration in January 2009.

To Robof4 - lose the paranoia dude. The National Park Service has not provided official counts for years - no one "told them" not to release a count. The most they would confirm is that the rally had a permit allowing UP TO 300,000 people to attend.

Having attended many concerts, fireworks displays, demonstrations, marches, inaugurations since the late 1960s (most of these did have official aerial counts so my numbers are not just a guess), my estimate is 85-90 thousand.

Do you really think AKA Obama would have won the election if all the things he is hiding were made known?

Do you really think AKA Obama will be able to finish his first term if all the things he is hiding are made known?

The only conspiracy is the media and the obots who suppress the revelation of AKA Obama's history.

If you are not suspicious of a man who hides his history I have a bridge in the desert I want to sell you.

If you are unwilling to call for an investigation of a man who attempts to sell you a bridge in the desert I have some beach front property in Florida at the intersection of I75 and Florida # 29 that I want you to buy.

If you place a down payment on a contract for the bridge in the desert and the beach front property in the swamp I would conclude that you voted for Obama.

This rally had nothing to do with MLK. This was a farce perpetrated by those right wing, in order to confuse minorities, for their votes. But, many will not fall for it. They are not that stupid.....Beck is a nut, no matter what he does, and shame on those who follow him. He is not even a Christian he is a sheep in wolves clothing. Two points:

1) The National Park Service no longer makes "official estimates." Therefore, anyone claiming to present official estimates is morally dubious.

2) Judging from the very low moral and intellectual quality of many of the posts appearing here from the leftist side of the issue, I have given up hope for the United States and am just thinking of sitting and watching the wreckers and moral idiots of the left soak up their punishments.

Just some ideas for a Tea Party Platform

4. Employers of illegal immigrants will face felony criminal charges
5. H1B Visas will incur a $35,000 per year fee for companies granted them
6. Student Visas will require a $5,000 refundable deposit. Overstaying a visa will incur forfeiture of the deposit and immediate deportation.
7. US companies closing facilities in the United States and replacing them with facilities outside the United States will be required to pay a $5,000 annual fee to social security for each US worker replaced. This fee will also apply to US companies establishing call centers abroad
8. Congressional and White House Staffs to be cut 10% immediately.
9. All federal agencies to cut staff by 5% per year for 4 years.
10. In addition pay for all federal workers will be cut by 5% per year until the budget is balanced.
11. All federal agencies will be reviewed for effectiveness and duplication of responsibilities with the goal of dramatically reducing or eliminating these agencies.
12. Congressmen are required to read every bill they vote upon and will be required to initial each page of every bill read. The president is also required to sign every bill and initial every page read.
13. Congressional pensions are limited to social security and the same 401K contributions as the general public
14. Congress shall not exempt itself from any law it passes.
15. Federal judges shall be appointed for one 7 year term and can serve one second term if nominated by the president and approved by Congress.
16. Congressmen are restricted to serving no more than 14 years in congress.
17. All federal employees, including congressional and white house employees are prohibited from employment by a lobby, registered or unregistered, for a period five years after leaving government employment. For an elected member of Congress and the White House this period is ten years.
18. Every contact between a lobbyist and any federal employee, including all congressional and White House employees, must be documented with time, place, method of contact and a summary of discussion. Criminal penalties to apply for non compliance
19. Three members (or one third, whichever is greater) of congressional ethics committees are to be chosen at random from the general population of citizens of the United States. If the citizens elect to serve, they will be compensated for time and expenses.

Hi there folks. Well, I have read some of the comments. I watched the event on C-Span. I could have gone...I had bus tickets but nowhere to stay as hotels were booked.

This is my take on this entire event. It was not political. I will grant that some people wore t-shirts that were political. However, the speakers were not. I think MLK would have been proud to see people of all walks of life unite, not only for honor but in his name and what he wanted...equality. I also admire Dr. King's niece for carrying on her uncle's message.

This country has been divided for far too long and even the writers on the Post will agree to that. That is a beginning. The theme was hope, faith and charity. Is there something about those virtues that offends anyone of any religion, sex or race? A country divided will fall. WE ARE TRYING TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY.

Transparency has become a word that is irreconcilable with the dictionary. It is no longer...We the People...BUT WE THE GOVERNMENT. It didn't work with the great Grecian Empire, the Great Roman Empire..or for that matter...look at the European Union.

As Beck as said, and I agree...it is about individual salvation and through that a great country can be reborn. Collective salvation is code for communism...a form of government that we, the people, are against.

Let me end by saying...God Bless to all of our soldiers who have fought so bravely in all of our encounters. They fought so we could live free.

Did you think it was nutty when the MSM spent tens of thousands of hours trying to find a few unaccounted for days from a loosey-goosey National Guard service by Bush? How about the many dozens of "reporters" roaming around Wasila Alaska trying to dig up dirt on Palin?

It wasn't that long ago that you and your kind were running around proclaiming that Bush was stupid because Kerry or Gore got a few points higher on their SATs, a higher GPA, or a better grade in some need-a-credit basket weaving class.

The issue is not just Obabma's kindergarten records - which might shed some light on his now obvious lies about his child hood - stuff that you believe hook, line, and sinker - but the record might shed some light on who he actually is.

In addition to his kindergarten records, Obama hasn't released any records. That includes his high school grades and how a VERY EXPENSIVE private school education was paid for, SATs, his college grades and how he paid for any of his college educations. In fact, we don't even know even he actually graduated because he hasn't released his diplomas either. Then there is his LSAT, the Annenburg Project records which are sealed, the mysterious disappearance of all his IL Senate records and private law practice records, and his medical records.

And then before the kindergarten records there is his ORIGINAL birth certificate which Obama has spent over $2M on lawyers to keep it under wraps.

If this had been Bush or any conservative, you'd be apoplectic. In fact we know more about Bush's hemorrhoids than we know about Obama.

While that is a bit disturbing to some of us, evidently your standards are so low it doesn't make any difference. Or you are just an another kool-aide drinking hypocrite.

If this had been Bush or any conservative, you'd be apoplectic. In fact we know more about Bush's hemorrhoids than we know about Obama.

While that is a bit disturbing to some of us, evidently your standards are so low it doesn't make any difference.

Did you think it was nutty when the MSM spent tens of thousands of hours trying to find a few days missing from a loosey-goosey National Guard service by Bush? How about the many dozens of "reporters" roaming around Wasila Alaska trying to dig up dirt on Palin?

It wasn't that long ago that you and your kind were running around proclaiming that Bush was stupid because Kerry or Gore got a few points higher on their SATs, a higher GPA, or a better grade in some need-a-credit basket weaving class.

The issue is not just Obabma's kindergarten records - which might shed some light on his now obvious lies about his child hood - stuff that you believe hook, line, and sinker - but the record might shed some light on who he actually is.

BTW, in addition to his kindergarten records, Obama hasn't released any records.

My fiance and her three kids were there. The aerial photos posted on Drudge do not even tell the whole story. The closest that they were able to get was 1/4 mile back on the street. They were barely able to see the screen.

A very different event for Washington. Friendly upbeat people giving each other food, water, sunscreen. Her kids helping people who the did not know from 3,000 miles away. People picking up their own trash.

Enough said.

My first inclination is to say to you detractors. You are delusional, figuratively and literally. But I won't do that. Well, I just did. Forgive me.

What I will say is this; God Bless You. But wait; must give you the correct definition of a blessing; Blessing does not mean approval, it only asks that God get involved in your life. It is completely your choice whether you do or do not. We want you to be with us on a voluntary basis. True Christianity does not allow non-voluntary conversions, unlike the other popular religion that embraces that concept, direct from their book. You can look up the chapter and verse.

I suspect most of the people were Mormons who were told to go and of course, a Mormon does not question why. If you wanted to see some of the biggest nuts in the media, paid for by Rupert Murdoch, CNN, and other right wing leaning media outlets, then you had to be there. As for a million people, well, that is an old trick used by the Republicans during the last Presidential election when two dozen people would show up at a McCain/Palin rally and the Republican media would report it as thousands and not allow cameras to take pictures of the audiences.

Wapo is being blatantly smarmy in the way they present the estimated number of those at attended the rally. Bachman asks her crowd maybe of around 1000 how many believe more than a million are in attendance at the rally and Wapo states that around 1000 gave her a big cheer. This was stated in a way to make readers believe that 1000 attended the rally. Sneaky, smarmy twisted reporting intended to sway public opinion. Every day more Americans are catching on to these deceitful tactics and yet Wapo continues to use them. The arrogance of the left is mind boggling.

There were a lot of overhead shots of the mall. There was a lot of empty green space. I did not even know Michelle Bachmann had a rally and the people who attended were so few that the scans of the mall did not reult in them showing up, unless possibly you knew to search. Glenn Beck's laugh of the day was when he looked out and decided he saw 50,000, a preposterous number than fit in with the rest of his comments. He had a small group, not packed but with space between chairs. I think the NBC estimate was charitable.

I have rarely, if ever, have read any article from the Post or any other Lame Stream Media member use the comment 'overwhelmingly black','overwhelmingly Hispanic','overwhelmingly Muslim'.

Perhaps it is because the 'overwhelmingly white audience' remembers what the learned about the Constitution, Bill Rights, Truth, Honor, Justice, God and the rights of NATIVE and NATURAL BORN CITIZENS of the United States.

This 'overwhelmingly white audience seemed peaceful, respectful and represnts the conservative end of America.

While I may not necessarily agree with Beck on all issues. He did a wonderful job of stating the obvious.

American CITizens, in general are fed up with what is going on in Washington and in particular in the Obama White House.

You failed to note that 82 percent of the Muslims in America (not all CITIZENS) support Obama. We know that 92 perceht of ALL BLACKS in America support Obama and that approximately 70 percent of the Hispanics support the Muslim POTUS.

Now all these individuals COULD HAVE ATTENDED this rally... BUT they elected to stay at home.

Perhaps the reason is not because or race, BUT because these groups are racists and bigots in their own rights.

IMPEACH OBAMA and charge him with High Crimes and TREASON against the Constitution and all Natural and Native Born Citizens of the United States.

America is about 75% white according to the American Community Survey. Whether most people consider that overwhelming or not I couldn't say. I wouldn't. I would say 99% is overwhelming.

When someone [Beck] is claiming to reclaim the civil rights movement people might have a tendency to look at the racial diversity of the group. Seems reasonable to me.

Interestingly the largest ethnic ancestry in the US is German @ 15.2%. I won't elaborate as to that particular demographic and it's implications about white supremacy in the US.

BTW. I would like to congratulate Alaska for having the highest forcible rape rate per capita in the US by a wide margin. You Alaska boys know what your women are good for.

You also do very well sucking up to the Federal trough. You have the highest pork per capita of all 50 states. Arizona has the least.

Alaska: $506.34 per capita
Arizona: $18.70 per capita

I guess that's part of that old Alaska independent take care of yourself spirit.

Go Alaska.

Clicking on the link to Beck's event... http://tinyurl.com/2c6umrj

"Huge crowds at Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" freedom rally -- organized to give thanks to U.S. troops -- left Washington, D.C., on Saturday night pleased by the theme and the turnout – as thousands in attendance returned home carrying a message of making America better. ...."

the only other reference to size in the story is this line ....

"But Beck said he didn't realize when he scheduled the date and applied months ago for the permit -- which allowed more than 100,000 to attend -- that it fell on the same date as King's speech."

Dang librul Fox News.

TheCaptain2: You must have learned to spell at a public school. The deficit is a yearly figure, representing spending above revenues. The debt is the accumulation of deficits over time. The debt is 13-14 trillion dollars. The deficit has gone from around 800 billion in Bush's last year in office, to over 3 trillion in Obama's second year. Pretty close to quadrupled, wouldn't you say?

Posted by: momsaid | August 29, 2010 7:09 AM

FY 2009 was began in Oct 2008. Bush had already spent most of the TARP money by DEC 2008. It's his budget year and the deficit for that year was $1.4T. The most current estimate for the estimate the FY 2010 budget deficit is $1.5 T.

I would not say that's close to quadrupled. I can't even imagine where you got $3T for a budget deficit for 2010.

And I hate to imagine what the economy would have looked like without the stimulus money poured into the economy. There almost certainly would have been a real global depression.

New York Times
The Billionaires Bankrolling the Tea Party
By FRANK RICH
Published: August 28, 2010

"ANOTHER weekend, another grass-roots demonstration starring Real Americans who are mad as hell and want to take back their country from you-know-who. Last Sunday the site was Lower Manhattan, where they jeered the “ground zero mosque.” This weekend, the scene shifted to Washington, where the avatars of oppressed white Tea Party America, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin, were slated to “reclaim the civil rights movement” (Beck’s words) on the same spot where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. had his dream exactly 47 years earlier.
There’s just one element missing from these snapshots of America’s ostensibly spontaneous and leaderless populist uprising: the sugar daddies who are bankrolling it, and have been doing so since well before the “death panel” warm-up acts of last summer. Three heavy hitters rule. You’ve heard of one of them, Rupert Murdoch. The other two, the brothers David and Charles Koch, are even richer, with a combined wealth exceeded only by that of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett among Americans. But even those carrying the Kochs’ banner may not know who these brothers are.

Their self-interested and at times radical agendas, like Murdoch’s, go well beyond, and sometimes counter to, the interests of those who serve as spear carriers in the political pageants hawked on Fox News. The country will be in for quite a ride should these potentates gain power, and given the recession-battered electorate’s unchecked anger and the Obama White House’s unfocused political strategy, they might.

All three tycoons are the latest incarnation of what the historian Kim Phillips-Fein labeled “Invisible Hands” in her prescient 2009 book of that title: those corporate players who have financed the far right ever since the du Pont brothers spawned the American Liberty League in 1934 to bring down F.D.R. You can draw a straight line from the Liberty League’s crusade against the New Deal “socialism” of Social Security, the Securities and Exchange Commission and child labor laws to the John Birch Society-Barry Goldwater assault on J.F.K. and Medicare to the Koch-Murdoch-backed juggernaut against our “socialist” president...."

Obama's deficit in just 1 year is larger than the last 4 years of Bush COMBINED.

Obama is currently spending at over 3 times the rate of Bush every single month.

And to the fella who think Beck and Bachman are "liers" DO you know that the one area holds HALF A MILLION PEOPLE, and the other side holds over HALF A MILLION people, and they were both overfilled, plus the people lining up down the streets and around the monuments for MILES. Just some quick math, you would see they were WAY over a million. MSNBC said the last rally only had 'a couple thousand people tops' when it was well over half millions. By the way, they hired a professional company to count the crowd, so NBCs little fly over estimate is going to be found severely flawed, just watch. Just the count of people off busses were well over a million, and many drove themselves. I know you cant admit that most of the country is actually smarter than you, and lying about people you have never watched or listened to and just assuming they are wrong without knowing why, yeah, genious.

I see so many people bash Glenn Beck, calling him a lier. Please, name ONE Thing he has lied about, Please. If you actually WATCHED him before you decided to comment, you would see what you are writing is wrong in many ways. He doesnt brainwash, he shows people saying what they said in thier own words, not out of context like the left will have you believe. He has a huge following because he is credible, and honest. He EXPECTS every one of his listeners not take his word, but go out and read it themselves. He IS THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN TO THE LEFT because he is teaching us what our liberal schools not only didnt teach us, but why they did it. I dare any of your Beck haters to watch him for one full week, really watch him. You will see, and you we join us. DO it, you know you want too! He may be the most important man in the country right now, because he is waking up the country to the truth. Once you see the truth, well, welcome to the Matrix, because you cant unlearn it. You will change everything and everything will start making sence. If someone told you a story, and they would get $1billion+ if they could make you believe it, do you think they may lie to you? Do you think they may twist the truth?? Al Gore, Obama, and many many others will be instant BILLIONAIRES the second they sign cap and trade into law. You know, the bill that can legally tax you for breathing, LITERALLY!! BREATHING!! Do you think the air you breath happens to be THEE actual gas that is making the earth temp change?? (not warming, since we stopped actually warming 10 years ago, you man not have heard that part) Now, who do you trust, Glenn Beck showing you how they are all linked to criminals and linked together conspiring to push through a law that will make them rich, or the guys telling you "dont listen to Beck, he's just a liar, I dont have any proof, just trust me, he LIES!" It goes on and on, lie after lie, and NOT BY BECK. He tells you who will be making the money, and its easy to tell whos behind everything. WATCH HIM FOR ONE WEEK

Certainly not from watching or listening to Beck's TV and radio shows... rather it seems that they just chant the party line of Comrade Barry and his not-so-merry band of Marxists. These bugs need to crawl back under the rocks from which they emerged.

It is a waste to comment on Beck's fantasies other than to say he has enormous ones and so do his avid followers. Beck (and Bachmann) are pathological liars. Attendance count at Lincoln Memorial was estimated at 87000 by CBS Aerial study. 300-500,000 or 1,700,000 is a LIE. Bachmann got 1000 and claimed 1,000,000.

Folks it is time to see these folks as nothing but pathological liars and demagogues who would, if they could, have blackshirts on every corner making sure you obey. That is there idea of traditional America. Its a fantasy and a lie.

I was at the Restoring Honor Rally today and the exact number of attendees isn't what's important. There were a LOT of people of all different backgrounds who shared in the message of Faith, Hope & Charity.

Let's not let silly numbers get in the way of the message delivered today. We need to get back to prioritizing our lives and serving God and others. By doing that, we eliminate the reliance on government, and we take back the power we've given away.

The first step in accomplishing that goal is to look past our nation's scars and towards a brighter future. This wasn't about politics, this was about being better to each other, in God's name.

Will Americans continue to stand by while one man takes away the freedom and security we treasure and for which countless generations of true patriots have fought and died?

They will if they vote for the insurrectionist whom the Republicon Party, Murdoch's mouthpiece, is offering as candidates.

First off, there is no "left" in American politics, and really there has not been anything resembling a "left" since Eugene Debs hit his high watter mark in the 1912 election.

Second, it is not Democrats who are disgusted by - not fear - people like Beck and palin and bachman and paul, and angle and rubio and toomey....it is anyone with even a passing understanding of anything beyond simply repeating whatever some talking head on their television tells them to think that day. beck represents the worst of the worst kind of demagogue. Baloney.

The 2004 Women's March was estimated at 2 million people and it tightly packed the mall from the Capital steps to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

Beck's silly rally just filled up the space on both sides of the reflecting pool. It barely extended to the WWII Memorial.

I'd say at most 1/3 of 2 million minus another 1/3 to account for the space taken up by the reflecting pool. This rough estimate gives a top figure of 222,000, far less than the 1 million claimed by Bachmann. And the pictures I've seen of the rally don't show people packed in shoulder to shoulder as they were in the women's march.

Spin on GOP.

We experience this at work, at the mall, and in certain neighborhoods. You don't have to call me the N word, for me to know what your intentions are. Look, I'm not going to pretend that Obama is doing such a great job because he is not. But the basic fact of the matter is that this whole tea-party movement is really about Race, a Black President who has a foreign name is living in the White house, and a lot of people can't deal with it. Don't try to hide behind words like 'Restoring America' or ' restoring civil right's or whatever you want to call it. The basic fact of the matter is that the main reason for this movement is 'RACE' I mean who are we kidding, you guys were yelling ' YEEEHAA' when G.W sent our young men/women into Iraq, playing on our vunerability after 9/11, on flimsy intelligence, exagerrated facts, which added trillions of dollars to the Deficit, and you guys didn't have a problem with that. To me that is a lot worse that someone or some group wanting to build a mosque near the site of the attach.

And so here we are, this new nationalist movment taking place being disguised.

I mean you have republican lawmakers who are getting paid to say 'NO', to basically sit back and say ' We are not going to help this NiGG#R be a successful president' , and that's your tax dollars. So what exactly are you mad about, and what exactly are ur priorirites.?

Fox placed crowd size at half a million later in the day. That is significant. Most importantly Washington Post and other older media outlets had the "Tea Party = NAZI/Racist/Violence mantra taken off the table. Beck's initial goal has been attained.
Without that, where can this newspaper go to sully Conservatives?
Nowhere, Liberalism is a dried up hole.
To save this paper from bankruptcy it will have to shift towards a Fox model - more balanced reporting. Conservatives outnumber Liberals by 2:1, Americans outnumber Liberals by 4:1. Adapt, or die.

Did I say I was against drilling in ANWR? No, but even if we go with the 4 to 5 years estimate some are using for oil production, it does nothing to solve today's energy problems. Renewable sources of energy have to be developed. Also, ask yourself why the oil companies aren't drilling in the over 8k oil leases they now hold? This oil from ANWR isn't going to flow directly into the U.S. only. It will be sold on the international market, the oil companies will make sure of it and with their control over Congress, that will never change.

The failed policies of the last 8 years is not the least bit dishonest, nor did I blame it entirely on the Bush administration. As an Independent, my eyes are open to the fact that BOTH parties share in the blame for our country's economic problems. Unemployment average was low during the two terms of Bush but the jobs that were created were low in number, only 3 million in comparison with 22 million under Clinton. Wages grew by approximately 20% under Clinton compared to only 2% under Bush, and then there were those "wonderful" tax cuts for the rich in 2001 and in 2003 that didn't create jobs as they were supposed to do and our economy was nowhere near what it is now yet we're supposed to believe that extending them will somehow now magically create jobs??

Nick in Alexandria, I'm far from stupid and would be, unlike you, very suspicious of someone who can say they would have ANWR up and functional in 3 years when all experts are predicting 8 to 10 years. You didn't answer my question as to why the oil companies are not drilling on the thousands of leases they already hold. The oil in ANWR is NOT going to be solely for U.S. distribution, the reality of which is never brought up when spoken about. The other reality is that it would lessen the amount we obtain from overseas, IF all the oil from ANWR were to stay in the U.S., by approximately 3 to 4% and would have minimal impact on the price of oil.

Still no answers in regards to what the GOP is going to do and how they are going to do it and what to expect in a realistic timeline of changes if/when they achieve the majority in Congress again?

With the thousands of comments already posted, Kate1230 will never see my response to her.

But one thing she said I just HAD TO respond to. She said that it would take 8 to 10 years to get ANWR producing.

The first time I discussed ANWR with someone was in 1993 (it was at a going-away luncheon for a co-worker who was chaning jobs, which is why I can remember so precisely). His complaint then was that it would take 5-10 years to start seeing results from ANWR.

Well, even if it had taken 10 years, we would have had ANWR functional for 7 years by now. So Kate, don't be stupid any longer. Something needs to be done, do it.

And I have heard oil people say they could get ANWR contributing in 3 years. Would that satisfy you, Kate?

Icky, Sharpton's message is simple. Another 50 years of special privileges for blacks. 50 more years of affirmative action. 50 more years of holding corporations hostage over the threat of black boycotts. 50 more years of race-based voting, and calling any black who doesn't toe the party line an "Uncle Tom". 50 more years of letting black students with 1200 SATs into Ivy League schools, while Asian students with 2000 scores are turned away. And most important of all, 50 more years of Al and his type getting fat and rich off a dependent black class, sucking from the government tit.

Chucko, I realize thinking isn't your strong suit, but the Tea Party movement doesn't "represent the Republican Party". Most Tea Partiers are nearly as upset with the Repubs as they are Democrats. Like it or not, though, they're the lessor evil right now.

Maddog, nice try, but the Tea Party is about one thing, and one thing only. Stopping out-of-control government spending. Just because they don't hcondemn every other injustice under the sun doesn't mean they support them either.

By your logic, since Al Sharpton didnd't specifically speak out against Hitler at his rally, he must be a closet Nazi. Care to try again there, kiddo?

Ms KATE1230, Rather than accept what the media and Dems chant about how bad the last 8 years of Bush was look for yourself at what transpired.
== 5.3% avg unemployment over those same 8 years.
== Dems pushed for sub-prime mortgages and wouldn't accept re-vamping Fanny Mae/Freddy Mac [ 2003 / 2005] which IS one of the root causes of the financial melt down.
== and oh yea the Dem held congress the last 2 years of the same "bad" 8.
== and yes the Iraq war wasn't a good idea ( I believe) however congress voted for the war (all of them) & if Bushed lied about WMDs then you need to blame Russia, Britain, Germany and France to name a few as they all had similar intelligence as the US.

Please don't take my word for it, do your own research. The "failed policies of the last 8 years" chant is a shallow and dishonest statement. Unfortunately it works on the shepeople of our country, please don't be a shepeople; take responsibility and think for yourself, look at the congressional record and other historical documents to search for the truth. Knowledge, a long memory, and a desire to fix what is broke will defeat the dishonest on both sides of the isle.

All the rallies on the right and not a word about restoration of American Freedom from the Patriot Act which nullifies the constitution. Amazing!

Me thinks Palin, Bachmann, and Beck want to give more freedom to corporations and less freedom to American citizens....and the right wing Supreme Court supports my finding.

Odd rallies to say the lest.

Then we have the bit about re-distribution of wealth to fellow American's is not a good idea, but that massive re-distribution of welath to India, Mexico, China, and Muslim nations is a good idea. China has so much American wealth it has developed a missile that makes the US Navy obsolete.

Me thinks the right is confused or its leaders are paid handsomely by corporations to mislead their followers.

Me thinks followers on the right are not well educated.

As a liberal though my main objective is to have Obama stop being a Republican.

That's what me thinks.

Kate, stop the nonsense, please. It would take 4-5 years to develop ANWR (or any of the other several massive domestic oil reserves we're not allowed to tap). You people keep using that as some sort of excuse -- but had you not blocked it five years ago, it would be pumping today. In any case, means several TRILLION dollars worth of oil, and several hundred thousand new jobs. Couldn't we use both of those right now?

And when did it become a crime to be white in this country? If the crowd was all white, so what. How many times do we see crowds of Hispanics and blacks gathered and no one reports there weren't many whites in the crowd. It's getting a little old.

Thou shalt not steal

What part of this do you not understand? Theft is theft, whether at gun point or IRS point.

Think about that next time you are feeling all pious and believing you are "in the moral correctness", voting to take money from those who earn it for whatever reason.

Can someone please tell me what they expect if Congress has a GOP majority after November? How long until we see unemployment drop? Six months, a year, two years until unemployment is at 5%? If healthcare is overturned, when can I expect a drop in my premiums, now $1240/month? When will we see actual sources of alternative energy being developed? Don't talk about drilling in ANWR, current reports indicate if we were to drill there, it would be 8 to 10 years before we saw any results.

How much will the deficit drop and what is the expected budget going to be with the GOP leading the way?

Most of the conservatives who come here like to write about how much better it would be with their so called leaders in office. You must be basing it on expectations you have for them when they are in charge. Haven't the conservatives told us things would be better, THIS TIME, if they are in charge, so they must be giving us answers to the above questions as that is what everyone is complaining about. Tell us what they are going to do, what their plan is, other than what Bachmann said the other day.

Michele Bachmann wasn't concerned about jobs being created when or if the GOP is the majority party, she wants to spend their time issuing subpoenas! That's B.S. getting caught up in a repeat of 1998 and trying to take down a sitting President.

What is the GOP going to do differently, THIS TIME AROUND, that will lead us out of the recession that they led us into?

I see a lot of hateful posts on this site, and most of them are directed at liberals, along with threats about November. Be careful. The 'facts' Beck brainwashes you with are often aberrations of his sick little mind, made up for ratings. Palin wouldn't know the truth is she wrote it on her brain. What these two are doing is mobilizing the left. We don't need an expensive 'rally on Washington' to make ourselves known. We will instead let our voices of support for the President be heard at the ballot box. We will vote out the obstructionists, and pave the way for positive change for all Americans. It seems to me that what the right is terrified of is any kind of progress by anyone other than white wealthy Republicans. In other words, they want to change BACK to a war economy, which is what got us into this mess. Bush left more than a $300 trillion debt...he never put the unpaid war debt in the budget at all. When Obama honestly added it in, of course the numbers look bad. But the TARP money is being repaid, the auto loans have been repaid, and the economy is slowing coming along. Our combat troops have left Iraq, as promised. Are things perfect? No, but then, this is not heaven. Obama is at least trying to make things better, which is more than I can saw for Bachmann and company.
The constant rants about Obama's religion are just a distraction. If he were Muslim, who cares? If he's a Jew, who cares? He is working for us, not an election, and not for special interests like the Saudi prince who pays Palin's Fox salary.

As for comments about whites in the crowds, all were welcome, if the far left would stop calling black people names, that would want to attend such an event, or threaten them if they even mention they don't agree with some of them...I venture to say there would have been more blacks there!

Just stop intimidating blacks, hispanics and everyone else you don't agree with!!!!

Sounds good to me.

I wonder what will happen if they go home to their libraries and read up a little more on MLK.

They know the call for Americans to be judged "by the content of their character" rather than the "color of their skin."

But I think that's ALL they know about MLK.

They don't know, for example, that he was a leftist in EVERY sense of the word. On the day he was assassinated he was in Memphis to lend support to a major STRIKE.

So Happy MLK day Tea Partiers!

Obama and his Administration has become an enemy of the American people. Obama campaigned as a moderate and promised no sudden lurch to the left, but has governed as the most liberal president ever. The moderate Democrats, free-thinking independents and guilt-ridden Republicans will never vote for Obama again. He has betrayed the American people.

A $300 billion deficit under Bush became $1.5 trillion deficit under Obama. Obama has saddled our children and grandchildren with debt that will never be paid off. When spending other people's money, as governments do, they must make certain not to spend more than people have. Obama has failed in this most elementary requirement.

By refusing to enforce immigration laws, Obama has become an active accomplice to the breaking of the law. His lawsuit against Arizona is now understood against the backdrop Obama Administration ICE policy not to prosecute illegal immigrants. If Obama is not going to prosecute criminals, he certainly does not want the states to do it.

Border security is about two things: keeping terrorists out of the country and keeping illegal off of welfare. Obama's position exposes us to attack and makes us the welfare destination of choice for the entire world. Only an enemy would seek to weaken American and expose us to attack in this manner.

When the American people made it clear we did not want ObamaCare, Obama and Congress chose to force it down our throats with unethical and possibly illegal methods. In the history of the US, Congress has never acted so directly opposed to the will of the people clearly and forcefully expressed . We will repeal it.

An honorable president, like Harry Truman, says "The buck stops here." Obama says "It's all Bush's fault!"

Obama is not a patriot. A patriot is someone who wants to see America hold a place of honor among the countries of the world. Obama is embarrassed that the US is a superpower and is doing his best to change that. A patriot, like JFK, is proud of the strong US dollar. Obama has taken steps to weaken the dollar.

Obama is killing the once honorable and patriotic Democrat Party. Harry Truman and JFK would be rolling over in the graves if they could see what Obama, Reid and Pelosi have done. They are despicable.

If Obama is not going to prosecute criminals, he certainly does not want the states to do it.

Border security is about two things: keeping terrorists out of the country and keeping illegal off of welfare. Obama's position exposes us to attack and makes us the welfare destination of choice for the entire world.

When the American people made it clear we did not want ObamaCare, Obama and Congress chose to force it down our throats with unethical and possibly illegal methods. I have never seen Congress act so directly opposed to the will of the people forcefully and expressed.

There is a three way fight going on. In one corner - believers in classical liberalism - small frugal limited government, free enterprise, low taxes, maximal liberty, individualism, freedom of conscience. In another corner the Marxist derived left - large unlimited government intruding to control every aspect of life, shackled and nationalized heavily regulated enterprise, high confiscatory taxes, minimal liberty, group rights and a tiny sphere for individual choice and a government prescribed set of ideologies and values inculcated through the schools and enforced by the state. In the third corner - not big in the US but big globally for demographic reasons is Islam - different from the other religions because it is aggressive, militant, and because it seeks supremacy over all other religions (with the intention to reduce them to Dhimmi status with inferior legal rights, higher taxation and daily degradations and humiliations in deference to Muslims). Islam differs from other religions in not being just a religion but actually being an entire social system with its own legal system, prescribed social relations (in great detail including men vs women etc), its own political system etc. The classical liberal democracies had crushed the Marxists in the end of the Cold War but the Marxists have revived and cloaked themselves in a variety of guises - global warming, environmentalism etc. The left aims to crush liberal democracy then to crush religion. Islam aims to crush liberal democracy then to crush the left. Right now both the left and Islam while natural enemies are focused on undermining the West and the leading society based on the principles of Classical Liberalism, America. The biggest weakness of the Classical Liberal states is that most people are focused on the details of their own lives made possible by their liberty and are not really focused on the incursions by the left. The union of Islam and the Left against America is based on the theory that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Obama's extreme action are beginning has partially awakened the sleeping giant of believers in classical American values to the threat from the left in the same way that 9/11 awakened them to the threat from the Islamofascists. Worrisome times. I expect that the forces of liberty will eventually triumph over the dark forces of the left and of Islam but this is not certain - great civilizations have fallen before and Dark Ages have happened and there is a significant chance that this could occur again.

From the sound of things, bigoted liberals can't handle the size of the crowd or the words spoken. Even the big time race-baiter could not draw a big crowd. Face it socialists. There are going to be some big changes in November and Hopey/Changey is going to go by the wayside. Did that make you spill your koolaid?

I live in the 6th District of Minnesota which is theoretically represented by Ms Bachmann. It's beautiful here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and there's plenty of room. I can't figure out why her campaign needs to rally in DC.

"Although the crowd was overwhelmingly white"

What does that have to do with anything?? That is the 4th time I've read that today in different articles.

Hey Emi...get some of your own material. I appreciate you covering this incredible event but atleast use some of your own thoughts.

Why is everything about race with the Left?? Strange.

So how many came to Sharpton's cub scout meeting? 10? 20? Seems that hopey changy thing has ran its course. I can feel the tingle of the lefties panties all going into a knot over Palin. It feels goooooood. I can see November from my house!

Al Sharpton's little pow-wow wasn't anywhere near the location of Beck's rally and didn't even come close to attracting the hundreds of thousands of people who came to hear Beck. What irresponsible reporting to try and imply otherwise.

I absolutely love the comments of bitter liberals.

Since you hate Palin so much, tell us how Joe Biden inspires you.

Glad Emi wasn't being racist when he/she said that the crowd "...was mostly white..."
We Conservatives will, as a previous poster stated, give you a more precise count come November.
Meantime, for all you Liberal delusionists who're having trouble imagining what that event might look like, think in terms of a reenactment of "Little Big Horn", with you guys playing the role of the 7th Cavalry.

"...Although the crowd was overwhelmingly white," Well, Emi, what the heck did you expect, the population of the US is only 12.9% black. Duh!

A lady? Not by Tom Jone's definition.
My question to the Tea Party crowd is restore honor from what, or who? Are they talking about Bush and the reckless financial spending and careless war tactics of genocide and murder? Or are they talking about crimes against humanity by the Bush administration? Or is it the gross negligence of the Bush administration that is responsible for human suffering, homeless people, poverty, a collapsed economy, out of control debt, record foreclosures, broken homes, suicide, special interest policies that destruct America, out sourcing, off shoring, doubling the price of gas and the cost of living every time they take control, or what are they restoring to America?
As I see it, all they are restoring is a communist insurgency against the elected government of the country. They have been in attack mode for the benefit of special interest since Obama took office. Fox news and the Coke brothers have managed to separate and divide the country with propaganda and rhetoric. Their half truth and lies are the perfect bait for the lower aptitude of the population to be programed with stupidity for the benefit of communist insurgents that have taken over the republican party.
The reclaim the dream rally by Sharpton was just as disgusting. With sickening comments like free D.C. and other partisan and discriminating comments and gestures by the black speakers. I could wonder if anything would ever be enough. Today's so called Afro Americans act like they were the ones discriminated against. Middle class white Americans that are successful dream of an 8 hour a day job that pays good money just like anyone else. Unfortunately, occupied time and pay take up the majority of their life.
Affirmative action doesn't apply to lazy freeloaders. A successful middle class black man could tell an unsuccessful colored man that much. I'm sure a lot of the colored mans forefathers knew what hard work and little pay were. I also know some of their offspring have no idea what it is. It don't come easy to anyone.
I voted for Obama. I am a white American that didn't think Becks rally was kosher. After watching Sharptons rally and their racist attitudes I could wonder which one is worse?

Just FYI Michelle, Fox News has published the following crowd size estimate:

"While there was no independent confirmation of the estimate, the crowd was densley packed and stretched for blocks, approximating events that have been estimated at 200,000 or more."

Surely you're not suggesting that Fox News lies or distorts the facts?
