Beck: People don't recognize 'Obama's version of Christianity'

By Matt DeLong

Updated at 2:05 p.m.

Just one day after he drew a sea of conservative activists to see him speak on the National Mall, Fox News host Glenn Beck appeared on "Fox News Sunday" to discuss the event. Beck said his rally -- at which former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin also spoke -- drew "on the low end 300,000" attendees up to "as many as 650,000." Unofficial estimates of the crowd size have varied wildly. CBS estimated 87,000 attendees based on aerial photographs, while NBC quoted an anonymous park service official who said there were 300,000 in the audience. The Park Service did not release an official estimate. Beck said there is 'not a chance' of a Beck-Palin GOP ticket in 2012. He said he has "zero desire" to run for president. "I don't think I would be electable," he said.

Beck explained that the gathering, which took place on the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech in the same location, was intended to reclaim the mantle of the civil rights movement from politics for "people of faith." Beck dismissed his critics who say that he has frequently engaged in racial politics by saying "race should not be in politics."

Beck said he didn't agree with King's calls for economic justice. "The real agenda should be equal justice, an equal shot," Beck said. "The dream was to judge man by the content of his character, not the color of his skin. I don't know that we've done that." He added that the Justice Department is "certainly not doing that" in the case of the New Black Panther Party, referencing an alleged incident of voter intimidation on Election Day in 2008 -- a controversy driven in no small part by Beck's television show that many on the left have cited as evidence of Beck's willingness to stoke racial fear among white people. Beck said "African Americans should be equally outraged" over the incident.

(Full coverage: Beck and Palin rally at the Lincoln Memorial)

The conservative commentator said he regrets his infamous comments that President Obama is a "racist" with a "deep-seated hatred of white people." He said he was "miscasting as racism" the president's "liberation theology" ideology, which he said relies on the lens of "oppressor and victim" to understand the world. Beck said Obama made the case in a speech to students that "your salvation is directly tied to collective salvation," which Beck said was "a direct opposite of what the gospel talks about ... Jesus came for personal salvation." Beck said "people aren't recognizing [Obama's] version of Christianity."

To his critics who attack his wealth, Beck said the money doesn't matter. "I think it's going to be worthless," he said, adding that he doesn't know "if it's going to be gold or acorns" that America will use as currency in the future.

Beck is a sick racist and instigator of racist hatred. He, along with the racists who spew such ignorance of the world religions with Christianity, an African religion, being at the top, would do the world a favor by being quiet about something they know nothing about.

It's interesting that a Mormon would speak about people not recognizing Obama's Christianity. In fact, most Christians don't recognize Beck's version of Christianity, or that it's even Christianity.

I was in attendance on Sunday. For those that were not, let me tell you just how exciting it was to be a part of a group of people who love their country and want it to remain faithful to its Constitution and to all its people. American citizens are the backbone of this country. There is no need for a Constitution if there is no citizens for it to govern. We must be true to our forefathers and the beliefs that were so eloquently stated in such a brief set of guidelines for us to follow. We are one people, one set of needs with one set of goals. Keep it simple and cut out the separation of people. (Divide and conquer) We are Americans with different ethnic backgrounds. We are all Americans. Stop with the separateness. We are all equal in the eys of God. Be true to these simple truths. Keep our representatives true to these truths. We could remain a strong and united country if all would remember this.

Did you ever imagine America could get this insane? I know I didn't.

But here we are. Fox's famously gullible flock are now taking their lectures on Christianity from a man who wears Magic White Underwear and believes God lives with his wife on a planet orbiting an imaginary star called Kolob.

Obama needs to defend his faith from someone like that???

And we wonder why America is in bad shape. It's the people, stupid! The stupid people, that is.

Obama has made at least four speeches in which he says he believes in Collective Salvation.
Christianity believes in Individual Salvation.
Collective Salvation is a perversion of Christianity that the Pope himself came out against.
Collective Salvation, Anti-American beliefs, and anti-White bigotry are all part of Black Liberation Theology which is from Reverend Wrights church where Obama sat for 20 years. His new religious advisor also believes in this perversion of Christianity.
This also goes along with Obama's wish to "Redistribute the Wealth", and oppressors and the oppressed.

That's OK. Probably even Jesus himself would not recognize much of "our" "modern" version of what passes for "Christianity".

Posted by: Geheimnis | August 30, 2010 12:26 PM | Report abuse

My first thought about purported Christians who "don't recognize Obama's version of Christianity" is that Jesus probably wouldn't recognize THEIR version, either.

Okay, so Glen Beck doesn't think America recognizes Obama's brand of Christianity.

But does America recognize *Beck's* brand?

Beck believes in the Mormon god. The Mormon god has a body of flesh and bone. [D&C 130:22].

http://scriptures.lds.org/en/dc/130/22#22

Furthermore, Mormonism teaches that this god was once a mortal man living on another planet -- he became a god by the "plan of salvation."

http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hideNav=1&locale=0&sourceId=f6ca97a7c1d20110VgnVCM100000176f620a____&vgnextoid=ba805f74db46c010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD

The Mormon god goes about "cursing" people with black skin so they won't be "enticing" to the good people. Here's what the Book of Mormon says:

"And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a dskin of blackness to come upon them." [2 Nephi 5: 21]

Read it yourself on the official internet site of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here's the link:

http://scriptures.lds.org/en/2_ne/5/21#21

Most likely the majority of "Christians" in America can relate more with Obama's god than with Beck's god.

I have listened to Glenn Beck for a while now and I don't recall EVER hearing him say for you to think this way or that. Instead, he does the exact opposite of what the liberals do. He actually tells you GO OUT AND READ IT FOR YOURSELF. DO NOT TAKE MY WORD, RESEARCH IT FOR YOURSELF. He never has mentioned anything other than God is his Saviour.... read THE BIBLE. He is not telling anyone to think this way or that, just go out and discover the truth for yourself. I have never heard of any of Becks previous pastors say g@d Damn America! (though to be fair,I don't think Obama was in the pews that day) Or the many other inflammatory things he has said ... have you? I suppose it doesn't matter because he (Obama) has denounced his as a friend and pastor now so the years that he sat and listened to him doesn't matter. I know personally, if I sit in the company of someone for any length of time it is because I agree with what he is saying. Or are you all naive enough to think he JUST start to spout trash like that? Liberal tell their ilk what to say and think. They tell you racist comments were made during the obama care bill passage no matter how the reports show there was none. Everyone is outraged and many of you blindly follow. The paper retracts statement that the comments were never made, but nobody reports that. For all the stuff spewn forth that Tea Party / Republicans are racistis or bigots I never see or given evedence of it. But, if we were to look to the left I can give you example after example of racism, and bigotry and the list goes on. Why is that?

Beck's ability to get under the thin skins of the moonbat far left is pure genius, second only to Gov. Palin's. And yes, she will be at the top of the ticket.

Sigh.

If George W. Bush promotes his Christian faith... it's bad. If Barack Obama promotes his Christian faith... it's good. If Glenn Beck promotes his Christian faith... it's bad.

It's so hard keeping up with the liberal position on Christianity.

That's because you are an incurious, uneducated, unwilling ignoramus.

George W Bush proclaiming that God told him to invade Iraq is not just wrong, it is certifiably megalomaniacal.

The only issue with Obama's Christian proclamation is that the likes of you refuse to acknowledge. He is not the one wearing it on his sleeve.

Beck is not a Christian, he is a Mormon.

Anything else you did not understand because you are a bigoted ignoramus, please do not hesitate to ask

Glenn Beck is NOT STUPID. He's actually very smart, he knows how to make great wealth for himself by exploiting fear and arousing anger. The greater the controversy, the more he gets paid by Fox. Note how he never mentions the name of the person who is funding the building of the controversial Cordoba mosque a few blocks from ground zero. That is because that person is Saudi Prince Alwaleed who also happens to be Fox News major shareholder. They talk so much about American patriotism but is paid by a fake news company whose biggest shareholders are an Australian and a Saudi prince. I do not have any problems with the Saudi prince or Murdoch but under any other circumstances, Glenn Beck would have displayed the name of any other Muslim fundraiser on his blackboard while he is stoking fears of Muslims.

He is also using Hitler's form of propaganda of appealing to the lowest intellect and keep repeating slogans of your propaganda with no regard to truth. All Beck's practices can be traced to Chapter IV of Mein Kampf.

He is also very cleverly using religion to appeal to the masses. He knows most people do not read or understand the Bible so he takes things out of context and twist it to his purpose. I'm so glad there are Christians here who understand the teachings of Christ and what our Lord wants us to do - to love and not to hate; to forgive and not to judge and always to help the poor, the wretched, the sick. Read what our Lord Jesus actually says in John 4.

I have no problems with conservative policies; just don't falsely use the name of our Lord to build your wealth.

There should be checks and balances in our government but I fear, if Glenn Beck and his followers continue to appeal to more and more angry people, our country will be like Nazi Germany: full of anger and hatred and always trying to find a scapegoat. Note the FBI warning that the number of increasing hate groups pose the greatest threat to our nation - not Muslim extremists, not a socialist agenda, not homosexuals, not choice activists.

GOD HELP OUR NATION, AMEN.

You're confused all right. Neither liberals, progressives or libertarians want their politicians to promote their religion within government and there are a fair amount of conservatives that really believe in the wall of separation of Church and State.

If they're asked about their religious beliefs they'll answer them but that's not promoting ..... faith based initiatives in government are promoting religion.

Some of us get a little nervous when we our Presidents say they hear God speaking to them. Some people who hear God speaking to them are put in institutions so they don't hurt themselves or others.

If Glenn Beck wants to hit the crowd up for $10 as part of his religion. That's great. I hope the everyone there sent Glenn $10 or more a head. Glenn will help stimulate the economy and create jobs. ... humbly.

~90K people. After two months of both Beck, and the "Quitta from Wasilla" hawking this rally on a daily basis and ~90k is all they could get? What a joke. The yearly DC Gay Pride Parade gets 250-300K a year. I thought beck told us America was "fed up" and "mad". 90K people! Hahahaha...

This photo was taken at noon on the day of the rally. I see more green space than I do people. Really...this is pretty embarrasing that the combined efforts of Palin, Beck and a Cable News network hawking this rally for two solid months almost as much as they do that gold company and the tally got to 90K?

The real mystery is how such a nonentity as Glenn Beck with less insight than the average five year old can command the attention of thousands. It is the one flaw in the first ammendment. Sometimes people who speak totally from ignorance (such as Beck and Limbaugh) DO speak, and those of lesser minds listen and the result is this travesty of everything that America stands for - equal justice, honesty, and integrity, all qualities that Beck lacks.

Beck's version of Christianity ...

"...After a few references to Dr. King and our military, Mr. Beck went for the money. He asked everyone in the multitude with a cell phone to donate $10.00 via text. Twenty minutes later, he was pressuring the crowd to start tithing (donating 10% of their income to the church). Considering the proximity of the Reflecting Pool, one has to wonder why he didn’t avail himself the opportunity for a mass baptism. Could it be the notion of thousands of Tea Party participants in warm water congers a vision of something more than a political brew? ..."

Obama is a real Christian. His is a personal faith that he doesn't shove down anyone's throat. He lives out his faith by treating others with love and respect--often in the face of their hateful, racist comments. He better represents the Jesus of the Bible than most of these hatemongering so-called Christians who are closer to the Pharisees in the Bible than anyone Jesus "hung out" with.

Beck and Palin are airheads at best.

They rail against social security and call for its demise, yet they fail to tell their followers that the demise of social security will mean kids will have to pick up the tab for their parents.

Beck seems to be preaching anti-government, but he somehow left out the largest government program the nation has ever had: The Patriot Act signed by Bush. This is a SUPEER GIANT GOVERNMENT PROGRAM and it cost more than social security, medicare, and Obamacare combined. Yet, Beck and Palin show no concern that American's lost all of their civil liberties with this act.

So my guess is that the Beck/Palin game is not truly related to anti-big government or even restore America. Something else is at play.

Another guess is that the Beck/Palin and Tea Party is more related to creating a corporate dictatorship in the US. Recent Supreme Court rulings support this guess.

The owner of Fox News a Muslim by the name of Talal must be happy. He is raking in billions for his Muslim friends and companies all from the anti-Muslim crowd that listens to Fox News. OUCH! No doubt some of this profit finds its way to Iraq and Afghanistan to kill American soldiers...courtesy of Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin.

Why do you government lovers always throw extremes like this out there?

Read the Constitution. Read the Federalist papers. Read the writings of those times.

IF YOU DO, you will see how ridiculous your comments are.You would see that everything you stand for was abhorred by our Founders, which was why they wrote up documents like the Declaration and the Bill of Rights. They wrote those documents so that it would take almost 300 years of fanatical, relentlessness by Godless zealots like you to take it apart and usher in tyranny.

I only pray that enough Americans have woken up to start rolling back the perversions you maniacs have bestowed on this country with your 100 year long creeping cancer of moral decay.

Your ideology has caused 20 prior civilizations to lie on the ash heap of history.

Hopefully enough of us can get educated soon enough to stop you and your hordes of soulless goblins from throwing US on the ash heap of history.

Perhaps they would like the U.S. to return to slavery, lynchings, a serious depression, poll taxes, abortions in the alley, hate speach against the Jews, Italians, Irish, Japanese, oil lamps, 'flat earth', polio, plagues, fighting our native people!

Mr. Beck has cost millions trillions by pimping their purchase of overvalued gold coins. Good luck, faithful. Yes, it's true gold will never be worth nothing. But the same is true of a postage stamp, a can of Coke, or a pair of Palin's panties. But he seems very sincere, weeps copiously, and erupts daily with an endless barrage of well-meaning platitudes. Can't hurt... but guard your wallets!

Fortunately, despite being an amoral opportunist with good teeth and a solid track record of reneging on commitments, the major drawback to Mitt Romney's becoming the Republican candidate for president is that the heartless of the GOP base don't recognize Beck's or Romney's version of Christianity, either.

There's probably a REASON why Fox, owned primarily by Australian Rupert Murdoch and a Saudi prince, have a program, "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" It's likely because they figure that an extremely large number of their viewers would find it challenging. (Strictly, it should probably be, "Do You Know As Much As a Fifth Grader?" But that would give away the game.)

And a major reason why Beck goes on about the "history" one doesn't learn in school is that to a very large extent, Beck's "history" is concocted.

Not surprisingly, when people like Beck say, "Time to take our country back," they don't add "Time to take our country back from people like Murdoch and multi-millionaire or multi-billionaire corporate executives who ship our jobs to Communist China and think that YOU should work to 70 so that THEY can pay less in taxes than you do and so that THEIR children can inherit tax free while YOUR children and grandchildren have to slave away to repay the tax goodies paid for by money that THEIR Republican friends borrowed from the Communist Chinese and our good friends and allies, the Saudis."

The really sad thing is that so many Democrats and also a lot of Republicans who undoubtedly really DO love our great country are scared into doing the wrong thing in order not to upset the screamers at meetings, people who can't stand the idea that people who are not like them are becoming part of the American Dream, and people who don't care about the future because they are hoping that Jesus will come back the day after tomorrow and will not notice how thoroughly they have rejected his teachings in reality while claiming that THEY are going to be the only ones in heaven because they're the true believers.

Beck, Palin and many other right wing pundits and politicians are simply tapping into the basic fears and emotions of people who are understandably worried -- a natural and reoccurring mindset during times of economic uncertainty. This Return-to-God approach to dealing with hardship is hardly new, and it's intellectually lazy and usually (politically) motivationally manipulative.

Glenn is little more than a political televangelist taking his dog and pony act on the road. When windbags such as Beck and Palin call for a return to God as a guiding spirit in order to make America better, what they really mean is that we need to make the nation into more of a Christianity-based theocracy, using the tenets of Christian beliefs as the basis for forming public policy.

However, God is not a micro-managing puppet master, and (gasp!) He does not favor one religion over another. Religion and politics make poor bedfellows. We need to focus on secular societal ethical behavior and non-faith based solutions to our nation's problems ... and leave religious morality in the church, synagogue, or mosque and within every individual's home.

Isn't it generous the way the more serious networks still politely call Fox a "News" channel? Fox gave up that distinction when they donated a million dollars to the Republican Party recently. I'm sorry, but you cannot simultaneously claim to be "Fair and Balanced" while reporting political news when you've already come out as the propaganda wing of one of the parties. Can you? How does that work?

Actually Glenn Beck is just a thinner version of Rush Limbaugh with a flattop. Both of these guys spend their time trying to sensationalize daily events in the Beltway and telling their stories through ultra-conservative filters. They each could make "big news" out of a bad bowel movement and do. The irony is they get paid huge sums of money to do so, because we continue to "lap it up". At least John Daily and Stephen Colbert are funny! I am an independent and not liberal or conservative. I am not happy with the State of our Nation now, but there are right and wrong ways to object.

I'm still not sure why the title was "Restoring Honor."

When was honor lost? When Reagan tripled the national debt? When Bush led us into a war of choice over non-existent weapons of mass destruction? When Bush doubled the national debt? Every time a televangelist is exposed for being a fraud? Maybe Beck is talking about the expansion of the federal government... that mostly happened in the 1930s, and working people at that time supported it.

What honor has been lost? Whose fault is it?

To his critics who attack his wealth, Beck said the money doesn't matter. "I think it's going to be worthless," he said, adding that he doesn't know "if it's going to be gold or acorns" that America will use as currency in the future.

But it sure doesn't hurt to invest in gold, does it, Glenn?

@maggots - Some folks don't understand the difference between elite (both Clinton & Obama were raised by single parents and both achieved) and elitist (I think the best definition would be someone who thinks their poo smells sweet). Judging from some snob's advice to TP'ers coming to town for the rally, the elitists are those using the rubes.

The arrogance that allows Glenn Beck to assume that he has the right to judge President Obama's "Christianity" is just galling, but from him not at all surprising.

And frankly, it doesn't matter whether or not I recognize Obama's Christianity, I recognize Beck's all too well. There was a time when it ruled the world -- a time we now refer to as "the Dark Ages." It bares the lie that this event was "non-political," because when you talk about "the country turning back to your particular vision of God," it is ALL about politics.

We would do well to remember Sinclair Lewis's observation that, "When Fascism comes to America, it will be carrying a Bible and wrapped in the flag."

For Jesus stood on the Mount, and said, "it would be easier for a rich man to get into heaven if we would just pave his way a little bit, get rid of that capital gains tax like Mr. Bush did for them."

And then the crowd, looking shocked at the Galileean's strange about-face from his earlier stances, gave out a hushed cry. But this newly reinvented Republican Jesus went on.

"Blessed are the warmongers, and those who would bear false witness against his neighbor by saying they have a 'deep-seated hatred of white people' even without knowing what it is in the man's heart..."

The crowd seemed confused. But it was airing on Fox, and Fox says they're Fair and Balanced, so they must be so! It doesn't matter that they gave a million dollars to the Republican Party. If a news channel says they won't lie to you, then they are the Truth.

And then Jesus, a crew-cutted white Mormon with clear anger management issues, intoned again.

"And all this crap about helping cure the sick and help the poor, it's SOCIALISM!"

And the crowd nodded, and cheered wildly. FINALLY, they had found a version of Jesus they could love!

No, Beck's not Satan.

He's just another Hitler wannabe.

Hilter rose to power as a loudmouth during difficult economic times in Germany...and blamed Jews because they controlled banking...giving people a target for their anger.

Beck and his ilk are following the same path, but blaming blacks for economic injustices as an easy target. Which is almost funny since it was unregulated banking that helped created this deep recession.

So, instead of hating Jewish bankers for making too much money from charging people too much interest....we're supposed to hate lazy black folk for taking money from people via the Federal welfare programs.

And who's running the Federal government?

Oh no...a black man!

Yeah, freely elected by the largest margin since Clinton. Get over it people.

I can't imagine why anyone would accept a Mormon telling them what Christianity really is about. I wouldn't try to explain to a Mormon what Mormonism is about. I also don't believe that President Obama is a Muslim or a fan of black liberation theology. It takes a lot of nerve and no actual knowledge for Glen Beck to presume he knows what the President or anyone else is "really" thinking. What a lot of heat and no light at all. The rally seemed to be devoid of any actual soldiers or veterans. It is so easy to be a chcken hawk, why risk your life when you can cheer others on who take all the risk. I have found it amazing when speaking with family members who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan how many of our soldiers and veterans don't share Glen Becks beliefs or narrow vision of America.
Don't ever let let anyone tell you what someone else believes. Ask them yourself. Don't make assumptions. Respect yourself an others. It is the basis of a civil and democratic society. the rest of this is just hot air.

You can be liberal, Christian, Democrat or Republican and believe that our President is doing his best to help our country get back on it's feet after 8 years of disastrous economic and foreign policies that promoted welfare for the wealthy and Wall Street, and promoted privatizing profit for the fat cats and socializing risk so the wealthy never have to take a financial hit for their bad economic decisions, and sent our country to war for a lie about WMD. It is a Republican idea that the taxpayer should bail out Wall Street. Don't ever forget that.

All religions, including Christianity and Islam, are based on redemption of a supreme being (or maybe interference by space beings) and are therefore urban legend - there's no scientific evidence to prove the allegations of the holy books. Others, such as Judaism, are margin notes of the history of a people who actually lived.

L. Ron Hubbard understood that religion was legend. He was on a late night t.v. show and said he could a new religion right there and now. And he did. Scientology.

Wilkie Collins also understood. He wrote Moonstone. In the book the butler thinks of a question he wants answered, opens Robinson Crusoe and points to a passage. His question is always answered.

Think about this: Glenn, Palin et al. are to Christianity what Ben Laden is to Islam.

Then this out-and-out demagogue goes on Fox this morning and — finally, after more than a year — says he "regrets" calling Obama a racist and tries to explain himself. Please. First of all, Glenn, your regrets should be stated directly to the man upon whom you visited this outrageous insult, not the empty suits at Fox and their (can't think of a printable word) viewers. Second, this is a classic 21st-century apology. Phony regret, based largely on the consequences of the statement, months later, when his hateful words have had a chance to germinate with his fellow-racist followers.

At least he did say one correct thing on Fox — the first accurate thing he's ever said, so far as I'm aware: he has no intention of running for president, because he's "unelectable." Ya think? (At least, unlike Half-governor Palin, he recognizes it.)

All religions, including Christianity and Islam, are based on redemption of a supreme being (or maybe interference by space beings) and are therefore urban legend - there's no scientific evidence to prove the allegations of the holy books. Others, such as Judaism, are margin notes of the history of people who actually lived. People continue to follow the rules of their particular writings because they are ignorant - the books were for those times, not these. Do what Wilkie Collins writes about in Moonstone: open Robinson Crusoe and point to a passage - the book is an oracle.

Or you could keep going back to when hundreds of US marines were killed in Beirut when their barracks were bombed.

And the US did what in retaliation?

Absolutely nothing.

In fact, we withdrew.

And Bin Laden repeatedly cited that as evidence that attacking the US would be met with success.

And who was President at that time?

Ronald Reagan.

Why wont anybody in the media just spell out the truth? Beck's rally made absolutely no sense. It was a confusing mix of themes that had nothing to do with each other. Although these are all nice topics that no one would put down, Dr. King's message had nothing to do with war veterans or conservatism. He did no honor to the Dr. or his message, actually he insulted it. Like wise, I don't see how cutting down our elected president has anything to do with democracy or Christian faith. Beck threw this mish mosh of "lovable" topics together to apease "stupid" people and pump up his own popularity and career.

Beck was in fine form, He is my hero and this is what he told me ;)

Minorities and non-christens-Jews-Mormons are slowly eroding the Judeo-Christian foundations of America. A lot of minorities and lower-class underachievers are getting a free at the expense of hard working people.

Everyone should have an equal shot and Anglo-Saxons are getting the shaft. They need to take back America and make it just.

No one is better than another person.

Flat-tax and no welfare.

We need to be charitable, not propping up corruption.

I don't see anything wrong with that?

But isn't it MORE than that Janet? Aren't the people at Fox actively using jingoist patriotism to disaparage others? Doesn't it matter if you in fact practice what you preach? How can Beck, and by extension the others at Fox, pretend to be all these things they're not so successfully?

Nobody's version of Christianity has a chance unless it takes seriously:

LOVE YOUR ENEMIES. DO GOOD TO THOSE THAT HATE YOU. PRAY FOR THOSE THAT DESPITEFULLY USE YOU, that you may be children of your heavenly Father; for he makes his rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax-collectors do the same? And if you greet only the members of your own family, what are you doing more than anybody else? Do not even the heathen do the same? Be perfect, therefore, even as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Anybody who is even TRYING to live up to those words of Jesus has my respect and deserves the name of a Christian.

MLK Jr. was certainly trying, and look where it got him. Assassinated.

Beck? Palin? are you sincerely trying to live in this way? Left? Right? anybody?

This is not a Christina nation. There were many agnostics and freethinkers among the founding fathers. It is a multi-cultural nation, and many of its citizens have always been non-Christians, or Christians that Beck would not recognize, in his narrow view of the faith. Mormons or Unitarians, for example.

There is no indication Christians are any more or less moral than other people, either.

Perhaps Beck and his followers want to re-write history, but that doesn't make it true.

I think conservatives (the rube variety in particular), mistake the word "liberal" for the word "intelligent". Yes, it is true that "intelligent" people do not believe in the Christian God any more than they believe in other archaic myths like Santa Claus or the bogeyman. Intelligent people are able to use reason when evaluating Christianity, and can recognize that creation myth has existed in every culture at every point in human history--and it's just one more religion in a long line of them stretching back to the beginning of human history,no more factual, provable, believable, or true than any of the numerous rest.

To think differently demonstrates an incredibly tiny worldview, an inability to observe factual evidence and draw rational conclusions, and a general inability to deal with real life on real terms. I know that's not PC to say, and could be considered as disrespectful, but lets be real. Fervent believers range from drooling stupid to bat-guano crazy.

Unfortunately, neither political party has a lock on general dumbness, so we, as Americans, still argue over a one-in-a-sea-of-thousands myth invented by goat herders a few millenia ago, when people thought the earth was flat and praying a lot controlled the weather. Religion is for morons, of any political persuasion.

Obama's mother was a white girl out of Kansas who was impregnated by a married father from Kenya when she was 18.

Obama never had his sperm donor father around, and the man his mother married in Indonesia didn't want the half-black around, so he was sent to live with his white grandparents.

Talk about abandonment issues. And there's no probably in "probably an emotionally abused child". He was a mixed race kid when society rejected mixed race kids, and had no parents to call his own growing up - he was rejected by BOTH.

So when he's president, on the Census he puts down "black", not "other", not "biracial". His white mother and grandparents never existed.

As for addictions, obama and his coke days come straight from his own mouth. His biological father was well known to be an alcoholic, which may explain why obama rarely drinks while president.

So before you make claims and try to tar and feather Gov. Palin and Beck, look to facts.

Glenn Beck's event at the Lincoln Memorial was totally resonating with many, many americans. Estimates of attendees are 300-500,000 and viewers on Facebook approx. 150,000 and double that on C-Span. I don't have an account on other radio stations that broadcasted it, but I think that altogether we can say viewership was about 1 million.

For anyone who watched I can say that the event was quite inclusive, sincere and remarkable in how peaceful and organized it was.

There is magic on Glenn and one must wander what is it that makes him connect with people. There is no denying that our America is at a crossroads and we are in grave danger of losing our identity because the party in power and followers are on a stubborn transformational journey of social justice and reparations that goes against all of the principles and legacy left by our forefathers.

Glenn Beck's message was one of EQUAL Justice for all and INDIVIDUAL responsibility and that is why it connects with many americans. It is time to regain our country from the abyss where it highjacked by liberals with a socialist agenda that caused a left turn on our destiny.

For those of you who are against our core values, let me advise you that there is a great re-awakening and everything under our power will be done to change the course of our destiny and get back on track.

For you see, we are very patient because we know the greatness of this country, but there comes a point where we will intercede and stop any currents that want to change our country away from our core values.

Liberals, socialists, marxists, that have taken control, we warn you that you will be thoroughly rejected and in a peaceful way, with the power of our vote.

Glenn has taken us on a true journey of the real HOPE and CHANGE that we expected and we never received.

Mr. Obama needs to start focusing on getting another job, because come Nov. 2012 he will be fired. And his political life will be totally miserable come Nov. 2010 when he will lose control of Congress.

Mr. Obama needs to learn a lesson that social justice and black liberation theology DOES NOT work in this country. This is nothing more than a perversion of our values and indeed it was not the message that Martin Luther King spoke so valiantly about.

We are getting back to valuing individual freedoms and responsibilities. For it is the individual who controls their destiny in this country and not the social collectivity as believed by Obama and all his socialist followers. That experiment has failed and we are about to change course.

Let's prepare for our peaceful revolution through the power of our vote!

Authoritarian Personality

A personality pattern reflecting a desire for security, order, power, and status, with a desire for structured lines of authority, a conventional set of values or outlook, a demand for unquestioning obedience, and a tendency to be hostile toward or use as scapegoats individuals of minority or nontraditional groups.

I can honestly say Obama is not a Christian. He exhibits no Christian values. He and his cronies lied, hid behind closed doors, hid the bills, offered fraudulent numbers in support of bills, double talked, creates division, promotes hatred and false class envy, creates fear, creates chaos, milks and promotes a crisis, offered a no jokes stimulus padding the upward palms of special interest when thousands of young families struggled and pushed a health care takeover that no one wanted that will cost more not less. I can assure you this is not a Christian. He can call himself anything he wants but that does not make it so. He sat for years in a so called church that preached hate and fraudulent liberation theology.
Obama could worship a rock behind the door. If your words do not match your actions people just tune you out and turn you off. It just does not matter anymore. He is political toast and deserves to be.

OK. I can't resist explaining how the relationship between the Beck rally and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation actually works. This is not a criticism of SOWF. I have just donated to the charity myself. Its just an exhortation to be careful HOW you make the donation.

From what Beck has said publicly, one would think that there is a pot of money that will be used to pay for the rally and once all expenses are paid, anything left over would be donated to SOWF. In addition, Beck has asked people to donate to SOWF.

If that's what you thought, you'd be wrong. In fact, under the arrangement between Beck and SOWF, the cost of Beck's rally is actually coming out of the donations being made to SOWF.

Not convinced? Go to Glenn Beck's website for the rally (www.glennbeck.com/828/) and click on a link that says:

"If you would like to donate to their (SOWF) cause you can do so online here."

When you click on that link it will take you to a not to the SOWF website but to a "Restoring Honor" Rally donation page. Read the fine print at the bottom of the page. It says "All contributions made to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation will first be applied to the costs of the Restoring Honor Rally taking place on August 28, 2010."

SOWF has made quite a bit of money under the arrangement, so no harm done in that sense. However, would it not be a bit more accurate for the donation link to say say:

"If you would like to help me pay for the Restoring Honor Rally click here. Some of the proceeds from donations received will go to SOWF."

Restoring honor, after all, begins at home.

Really?? Talk about lies. The truth is that this all started with the televising of the House of Representatives on C-SPAN. Whereas before members of Congress were relatively partisan in their home districts and comparatively less partisan in Washington, after the TV cameras went into the chamber things became much more extreme. Members of Congress (Newt Gingrich being chief among them) used Special Orders speeches on C-SPAN to show off their conservative credentials and rail on and on when virtually no one was in the chamber. He used these speeches to catipult himself and the right wing of the Republican Party to the forefront of Republican politics.

Then when Bill Clinton was elected President in 1992, he had a foil to aim his barbs at. Then when you had people on the right wing of the Republican Party like Richard Mellon Scaife throwing independent money at everything from the Paula Jones suit to intrigue into Vince Foster's suicide, it's no wonder the power brokers on the Democratic side wanted to the same thing when George W. Bush was elected.

Not to mention the creation of districts following the 1990 and 2000 censuses that were more solidly Republican or Democrat, which in turn meant that the members of Congress and state legislatures had less incentive to be bipartisan.

Did anyone see anything OTHER than "White" faces at the Glenn Beck rally? As a radio caller who left a message on WTOP on Friday said, "It was gonna be nothing but a Klan rally without the white hoods."

Posted by: Bigrcube | August 29, 2010 3:39 PM | Report abuse

Look. This is not complicated at all. Glenn Beck is nothing more than a dry drunk and a shill for corporate America as worshipped by his boss, Rupert Murdoch and the slime-bag Koch brothers.

Palin is a dimwit who when asked two years ago, didn't know why there is a North Korea and a South Korea, even though her son (or some other relative) was shipping out for the DMZ.

I keep going back to a premise put forth more than a year ago about tea baggers and the thugs they worship: If Barack Obama is white, there is no tea bag movement whatsoever.

A white numb skull, GWB, started our downward spiral with a trillion dollar war against a third-rate punk thug named Saddam, who represented NO threat to anyone. GWB also started the bailouts when he finally saw the train wreck he and that windbag Cheney created with that murderous invasion.

Where were the tea baggers when we maimed or killed more than a quarter million Iraqis -- all but a handful of them civilians? And upwards of 40,000 Americans????

Where were the tea baggers when GWB was sleeping with those Enron goon thieves?

Where were the tea baggers when GWB pushed tax breaks for the top one half of one percent of all Republicans, and screw everyone else?

Where were the tea baggers when that twit strutted around on an aircraft carrier like some bantam rooster crowing about "Mission Accomplished?"

DUH !!! Watching reality TV and Fox "News," I guess.

YOU REALLY THINK SO ???
I'll take the morals, character, and integrity, of the current Glenn Beck over Jefferson, any day.
Thomas Jefferson, a Good??, wise, and accomplished man, of his day.
He "still" held slaves until the day of his death.
"Theoretically," Thomas Jefferson reasoned that Blacks should "not" be held in perpetual slavery. He even sought legislation that could've abolished slavery, sometime, in the future, conceivably, after his demise.
I'll go along with that.
I'll give you everything I have. After I'm dead.
Jefferson "never" considered the possibility that Blacks might be "equal" to whites, he did claim, wrote, and said that they "should be freed."
The attitude is apparently congentital. Only in the past decade, have the White offspring of Jefferson deigned to consider, and acknowledge, that his Black descendants, are actually related to the white ones.
If you're black, are you going to choose Jefferson, over Glenn Beck??

And if you don't know who the Kochs are, I suggest you read Jane Mayer's piece ("Covert Operations") in the New Yorker. A government of the people, by the people, and for the people is anathema to people like the Kochs who believe their wealth entitles them to a disproportionate share of power. That is even though almost 200,000 people rallied against the Iraq War in March 2003 CNN barely gave it a 1 second mention, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, etc. barely gave it a paragraph, etc. etc. near total black out of that rally.

And also keep this in mind that whereas this psycho Beck's rally was funded by 1000s of Hours of brain washing talk (so called News) on Fixed news and his Radio shows, the anti Iraq war rallies in Washington DC in 2003 were all based on a few Web sites passing email notifications of the rallies, which means they were totally grass root and organic whereas this psycho Beck's rally is in effect funded and backed by Billions of Dollars of Wall Street money.

"No, liberals can't be God fearing. If they did then they wouldn't be pro abortion for just one example. Do you really think God condones ripping fetuses from the womb and murdering them in cold blood?

No one is pro abortion. But do you really think God condones treating a womb as if it were a machine, rather than an intimate organ, part of a human person's body? Do you think God condones treating a woman, His/Her daughter, as an incubator to be used, rather than a living person who has the same right to say yea or nay to the use of her own body as you do?

Yes, probably. Your God never has treated women as full human beings. Blastula without brain cells or nerve endings - full human being, even with rights over another person's body that no other human being ever has. Full-grown woman, with intelligence and understanding and an independent life - property, whose only value lies in her service as a nurturer for real human beings, who must be either Virgin or Mother to be worthwhile, but who deserves neither respect nor self-determination in any form.

Read Frank Rich's column in today's NY Times 'Week in Review' Section. He restates what has been stated here many times. Glen Beck and the Tea Party are doing the work of the owners of huge multi national businesses, especially Murdoch and the Koch Brothers.

Beck and the Tea Party are espousing all the policies big business wants: no regulation, no taxes for business, no Social Security, no unemployment insurance, no public schools, no Medicare..... what they want goes on and on but what they ultimately want is a society like the Gilded Age.

Thanks to Citizens United and a Supreme Court which the corporations own, it is now going to get much more difficult to trace the money business gives and to whom they give it. In fact, speaking of the Koch brothers, we know that they have given at least 192 million dollars to right wing think tanks but we don't know the total amount they have given. Some of the information isn't public.

Wait until Citizens United kicks in.

The lying Mr. Beck wants to paint that incident as somehow reflective of the Obama administration because....he hates the Obama administration. Of course, if he weren't a serial liar he would point out that it was the Bush DOJ that decided that there was no "voter intimidation" that day in a predominately African-American voting area. At the same time, it was the Obama DOJ that actually filed a complaint and obtained a default judgment against Samir Shabazz of the New Black Panther Party for carrying a nightstick at the poling place.

He will continue to gain traction so long as people ar out of jobs and losing their homes; the best antidote to Beck and his fellow travelers at Fox which the Administration could apply to tone them down is an effective and meaninful national economic and fiscal policy; unfortunately, as Beck and his side have figured out the Democrats and Obama's economic team are just as bankrupt of ideas as John Boehner and his tax cut crowd.

The GOP Right Wing extremists use any divisive wedge issue; racial, religious, economic, homophobia, islamophobia to divide and weaken American while they disobey the constitution of the United States, seeking to repeal the 14th and other amendments while warping the 2nd from “(the military’s) well regulated militia” into “any Wahoo with an assault weapon”. We used to call those traitors but for them it's business as usual.

FAUX News and Republican Joe Barton Looked Ridiculous in their Defense of BP’s actions and fight against making BP Pay Reparations for their actions that resulted in the destruction of hundreds of billions of USA resources and the livelihoods of millions of Americans. Defending corporate murderers and their criminal negligence exposes the GOP and FAUX news for the dirty rich, oil and coal corporate right wing hate mongering organization that they are.

Consider the Tea Party movement. The primary funding sources for the Tea Party are Oil Industry funded conservative groups:

“Americans for Prosperity”, “FreedomWorks”, “Cato Institute”, “American Enterprise institute” and the “Heritage foundation”.

which receive substantial funding from Exxon Mobil, ChevronTexaco and David Koch of Koch Industries, the largest privately-held energy company in the country, and the conservative Koch Family Foundations. Koch industries are responsible for hundreds of Oil spills spread over multiple states.

The Tea Party is fighting for what's best for Wall Street Criminals, for Oil and Coal Industry Criminal negligence resulting in Deaths and Pollution, and the Policies that allow them to continue doing so Without Oversight or Regulation.

Why isn’t the Tea Party organizing and demonstrating against Industries causing the Deaths and Lost Livelihoods of Millions of Americans? Why aren't they protesting Lack of Regulation against Wall Street, Oil and Coal companies that are Killing People and caused the Financial Devastation of Millions of Americans? Why aren't they protesting against BP and Halliburton's Gross Negligence in the destruction of Multi-Billion dollar Tourism and Commercial Fishing Industries in the Gulf Coast Oil disaster?

Because the Companies Responsible is who Started, Fund and Direct Tea Party actions.

The Tea Party has a Clear Allegiance: The Rich, Oil and Coal and their ability to Pollute and Poison and dodge taxes at Public Expense while they rake in the profits.

That is easier than thinkng for yourself or using logic to figure out some of Beck's blackboard machnations.

Beck misrepresents again and again. I've viewed two transcripts of Obama speeches in a two year period and his salvation remarks are not spoken in the context of religious worship, they're coached in the context of serving others not just yourself.
Beck just wants to keep up an argument in which he ordains himself and his words in God and religion. Phony baloney Beck stuff that's all. And by the way, it extends the news cycle coverage with his name in it for the benefit of his pocket book and that of his network (the GOP infomercial - FOX).

Beck is right about Obama being into black liberation theology among many other ideologies, but as an Islam ignoramus he misses the subtleties of Obama's claim to be a Christian, because he's also got connections with Black Muslims, who regularly claim to be Christians too, then add that to them Christ was a Muslim and is now a follower of Muhammad like them. Obama's speeches praising Islam as the ideal religion while simultaneously claiming to be too dumb to embrace it make any thinking person wonder whether he's really to smart to come out and admit he's really a Muslim dissimulating to stay in the White House and work for Allah to throw the gates of America open to it, like the fabled Trojan Horse. If Beck honestly believes his wealth "is going to be worthless", why is he not giving it to the poor, the way JESUS would? You know, that fellow from Galilee on whom Christianity is actually based, for everyone but Republicans?

Beck says "people" don't recognize Obama's version of Christianity? Oh? One where those with the ability to do so actually try to help the poor and sick, instead of hiding in their temples COUNTING THEIR GOLD BULLION COINS MR BECK?

The reality is that if Jesus were here today he would be beyond appalled at Mr. Beck's "version of Christianity". Sadly, his brain-dead followers are too dense to see this. This is because they treat their Bibles like a Software User License. Instead of actually *reading* it, they just scroll to the bottom and click "I agree". They have no idea what it says. They think Jesus was a warmongering heartless right wing protector of the wealthy. These people are nuts.

I think he chose MLK's speech day for controversy. It just seems artifical. He has selected the most salient elements of political movements (religion, small government, and taxes), he looked up polls statistics for past successful movements, and applied the resulting information to his current rally. It's make a 'political movement for dumbs' on drugs. Not calling anyone dumb for following Beck, I am just commenting it looks very artifical, and staged to be something it's not. This rally had nothing to do with civil rights or religion or 'coming back to God.' It was a political rally.

Sounds like a similar group of lost, unhappy, ignorant Germans before WWII. Pahlin and Beck, two of the most ignorant of our "leaders" and there they are leading America - to where? What are they telling us will restore honor to America - less tax for the rich, hating Muslims, gays, Blacks? These Tea Partyers hate for God and Beck while the right wing steals every last penny from their pockets, takes away their schools, parks, health care and protection from corporate destruction of their world. I am ashamed of my country that it still produces people who scream "honor" while they are one step from attacking their neighbors while they destroy our country.

I personally think that religion has no place in politics. Even Christ said "Give unto Cesar the things that are Cesar's and to God the things that are God's." Although all religions dictate a code of behavior I see very few followers of any religion fallowing the teachings that their religion teaches. It looks like to me that nearly everyone now days are worshiping the God Mammon. Anyone that pays no attention to the teachings of their religion will not pay any attention to the laws of the country that they live in. Truly we have entered an age of anarchy.

Beck's choice of using the Lincoln Monument as a setting was wrong. Lincoln said that a house divided cannot stand. Beck has shown nothing but disdain and disrespect for those who disagree with him. He does nothing to bring people together. Not Lincoln's values. He was right that MLK's legacy doesn't just belong to Black Americans, but he is not the one to claim it. MLK wanted everyone to respect each other. Despite violence and terrorism that make Al-Qaida look timid MLK still advocated peaceful resistance. He never lambasted others the way Beck does. Beck has no claim on MLK's legacy. The vitriol expressed in many of the comments illustrate the problem of our discourse.

It was already commented on and has been decided ---that Beckhitler is an alcoholic Mormon hooker (selling out to Fox)and

Saviour Saint Sarah is a fat, gay, sick idiot. The "sick" comes from naming her child Trig after the afflication he holds (which is shortened as Tri-G). That came out yesterday by one of the posters here.

And then the constant arguing of how many people were there and mostly white.

Beckhitler sure had his nerve putting this on for the pristine lilly whites. Instead of naming it Restoring America, he should have named it the Coming Together of the Christian Right.

Try that with any Imam, or noted Islamic Religious Leaders, and you’ll become a target of their Jihad.
But, with Glenn, he’s peaceful, so you can continue to vilify, and harangue safely.
I “like Mormons.” I like Jews. I like Catholics. I don’t agree with “all their” religious beliefs, but, I’m “not” their God. They don’t have to answer to me. So, I support the elements of, the aspects of their beliefs that coincide with mine. I don’t have to approve of their salvation. It’s none of my business. I’ll protect and defend their rights to profess, and promote, their beliefs, if they so choose.
You, on the other hand, seem to be really hurt by Glenn. Why??

...just to clarify, neither Pubs nor Dems in Washington, DC are doing us any favors in terms of protecting us. Make no mistake, the Patriot Act is intended to protect the government and its agents -- not 'we the people'...

It is true Bush and a Pub-controlled Congress passed the very dangerous Patriot Act in October, 2001. But the vote was 98 to 1 (Senate), 357 to 66 (House), so a lot of Dems went right along with the program. And in March, 2010, when the Patriot Act expired, Obama and a Dem-controlled Congress extended the Patriot Act. In the Senate it was extended on a voice vote; we aren't even entitled to know who voted which way...

...just to clarify one of many misconceptions...

I don't read the Post anymore, even though they practically give it away for under $2 a week to keep their numbers up for advertising but it is still bleeding red-ink just like its editorial pages. And after reading a couple dozen comments about the rally yesterday it is obvious that a city which elected a crackhead for mayor and returns him to office as a councilman every election with 95% of the vote would be expected to loath the hundreds of millions of hard-working Americans who support DC's over-paid and underworked bureaucracies with their tax dollars.
The best thing the country could do would be to relocate the capital once again, this time to the center of the country, as DC was when first established, and we could return the city to Maryland as was done with Alexandria to Virginia. Liberals live in such a smug petty world that they don't understand that their socialist heroes are imploding every day. It was great to have some real Americans in town for a day to give the ruling class a peek into the future.

Beck World is a very interesting place. It exists primarily on Fox News of course another interesting place. Consider this:

-Fox, the Patriotic All-American Blue-Collar Conservative Christian network, is actually owned primarily by a Catholic Australian who was born rich and has married three times. It's next biggest sharelholder is a Muslim Saudi prince who is among the richest men in the world

-Beck, the Apostle of the new Christianity is actually not a Christian at all, but a Mormon who was born a Catholic and has married twice. He is also a self-decsribed former alcohol and drug addict.

-Bill O'Reilly, the conservative champion of the little man, actually attended Harvard University and paid out millions to settle a sexual harrasment suit against him after an embarassing audio tape was released.

- Sean Hannity, who along with Beck is a champion of our military, like Beck supports our troops best from the comfort of his mansion. Neither Hannity nor Beck ever served in the military.

-In fact, while Fox News and network is staunchly pro-military, it is an armchair version of that support. No Fox on air personality has ever served in the military except Ollie North who used to have a show.

The following is a partial list of Fox personalities and occasional commentators who favor a strong military as long as they never had to join:

Glenn Beck
Bill O'Reilly
Sean Hannity
Greta Van Susterenn
Sarah and Todd Palin
Dick Cheney
Liz Cheney
Chris Wallace
William Kristol
Britt Hume
Stephen Hayes
Mike Huckabee
Shepard Smith
Neil Cavuto
Brett Baier
Ann Coulter
Newt Gingrich
Brian Kilmeade
Bill Hemmer
Steve Doocy
Gretchen Carlson

In short folks, it is easier to find a church or synagogue in Saudi Arabia than a military veteran at Fox!

inoue @ 1:13, not only did Nancy Pelosi see the crowd estimates from yesterday. So did everyone else in the USA. These are the estimates depending on who you choose to believe:

CBS News - 87,000

www.fox43.com: more than 200,000"

Glenn Beck - up to 650,000

Even using Beck's number, 650,000 people represents .012% of the number of registered Republicans. It is equal to .005% of registered voters.

Yes, everyone knows that not everyone who shares the Beck/Palin view of America was at the Mall. Even if we very generously assume that there were 20 people who support the Beck/Palin view of America at home for every supporter on the Mall, the total would be less than 10% of registered voters and would still be a minority of registered Republicans.

Bottom line: you are a visible political minority because Rupert Murdoch wants it that way but you are a not and never will more than that.

The liberal MSM must be beside themselves or there would not be wall-to-wall coverage blasting Beck and Palin.

I've little coverage of Sharpton's rally compared to the coverage of Beck's.

Even Sharpton looked deflated last night after his rally because Beck didn't hijack MLK's legacy but honored it.

Wouldn't MLK be honored to see so many white people honoring him and with his niece Dr. Alveda King speaking at Beck's rally?

As she said, her uncle, MLK, marched not just for the black race but for the Human Race as he envisioned in his I have a Dream speech.

The liberal MSM today look bitter and not classy at all.

I am a practicing Christian myself, but I see the strength of this nation in its tolerance of all different religious points of view and in its separation of church and state.

I don't want this nation reclaimed for Christianity. I want it to be accepting of good people of all sorts of religious beliefs.

jhayne5 below wrote that:

"Blacks should support the Republican Party. It's the Democratic Party that is racist and hates blacks."

and then went on to write:
". Do you think MLK would be proud of todays blacks? Many in jail and with prison records, 70% of children born out of wedlock, black men impregnating every thing that moves and then not supporting them financially or emotionally, all on welfare and unemployed, and all the young kids with the guns and violence."
===================

This last characterization (e.g. "black men impregnating everything that moves", "all on welfare and unemployed") is misleading and comes extremely close to exposing this republican's underlying racism. And later he goes on to claim "All you blacks and democrats are hypocrits."

It's a national disgrace that we incarcerate so many black men, based on targeted arrests and unfair prosecutions. It's a national disgrace that the health and life expectancies of blacks are so far behind whites. It's a national disgrace that black's education is so inferior to that of whites. And so on.

Some republicans may want to think they believe that blacks are equal to whites, something that is obviously true and has been accepted by democrats for many years. What virtually no republicans seem to understand is that when it comes to "equal opportunity", there is no comparison between blacks and whites.

Beck and republicans such as Jhayne5 are quite blind if they think blacks (and other disadvantaged groups) can pull themselves up by their bootstraps and achieve anything they want through personal "character". They are born into a society designed to keep them down because they don't have the opportunities afforded to most whites. This is not even a political statement - just simple sociology.

He added that the Justice Department is "certainly not doing that" in the case of the New Black Panther Party, referencing an alleged incident of voter intimidation on Election Day in 2008... [excerpt from WP article above]

"Alleged"? Really? First, the offense is on tape and all over YouTube; second, the Justice Department had already won its case before Eric Holder decided he wasn't going to prosecute minorities (his words, not mine).

Using the word "alleged" in this instance is a misstatement of fact and a lapse in journalistic integrity.

___________________________________

Hey there, Bunco Boy, it's your version of Christianity (Mormonism) that people don't recognize.

* Mormonism teaches that there are many gods, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163)

* There is a mother goddess, (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 443)

* After you become a good Mormon, you have the potential of becoming a god, (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pages 345-347, 354)

* God used to be a man on another planet, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321)

* The Trinity is three separate gods, (James Talmage, Articles of Faith, p. 35)

* God the Father has a body of flesh and bones, (Doctrine and Covenants, 130:22)

* God is married to his goddess wife and has spirit children, (Mormon Doctrine p. 516)

Goldline International is under investigation by the Santa Monica City Attorney’s office, jointly with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, as well as being the subject of a separate investigation by Congress into the possible criminal practices. If Beck did, in fact, say that people don't recognize 'Obama's version of Christianity", it begs a question as to whether there is any version of Christianity that believes it is acceptable for a Christian to say this about another human being over the public airwaves:

May 17, 2005, The Glenn Beck Program: "I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it." He continues the rant by saying he then looks at his "What would Jesus do?" band, which causes him to conclude, "Oh, you wouldn't kill Michael Moore. Or at least you wouldn't choke him to death."

Ah, yes. The inevitable response to the question will be, "It was a joke. He is an entertainer." Does that mean he is excused from the responsibility incumbent on the rest of us not to shout "Fire!" in a crowded theater? John Hinkley attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan in the hopes of impressing Jodi Foster who, to the best of my knowledge, had publicly displayed any dislike for Mr. Reagan. Is Beck so obtuse that he doesn't realize that he has fans who might act on his never-ending stream of hateful words directed at specific individuals?

As to the statement that Obama's ideology "relies on the lens of 'oppressor and victim'", this is a strange statement coming from the man who yesterday reclaimed the civil rights movement for the oppressed white Christian majority.

Posted by: exco | August 29, 2010 1:16 PM | Report abuse

Beck said there is 'not a chance' of a Beck-Palin GOP ticket in 2012. He said he has "zero desire" to run for president. "I don't think I would be electable," he said.

Beck explained that the gathering, which took place on the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech in the same location, was intended to reclaim the mantle of the civil rights movement from politics for "people of faith."

-------------------------------------------
This is what passes for political and social commentary in America today? It's gibberish, absolute nonsense. Acorns for currency? Beck, you're an idiot and anyone who takes you seriously is just proof that there truly is a sucker born every minute.

What was Glenn Beck talking about yesterday? Not politics, not civil rights, not less government or the need to reduce the federal defict so our grandchildren won't have to pay it off, etc., not his usual right-wing rant against Obama and "socialism." No, it was evangelism: an attempt to revive a particular religious past, return to a white, Christian American God. To say he got all the Tea partiers into his striped go-to-meeting tent under false pretenses is understatement. A sorry, hypocritical performance.

Mr. beck shows disturbing signs of mental instability that render his comments and judgement suspect as well as his vetting of sponsorship dollars like the Reupert Murdock system pusher Goldline as well as others known to be at best con jobs and could very well be found guilty of criminal fraud in the very near future. He then pairs himself with self proclaimed sepratist and resigned in disgrace governor of Alaska Palin who has made a spectical of herself by proving ignorance sells as if we had not figured that out from the fan base of jerry springer and Maury Povich. For any intelligent politician to align themselves with this menagerie of misfits and misinformed is to commit career suicide and the population will not support a return to Bush league theft of our quality of life. This disaster is proven to be the direct result of actions taken under republican administrations going back to Nixon/Agnew and the "I am not a crook" gang. What ever happened to intelligent republican conservatives who brought to the table actual reasons for their positions?

Like most Americans, I utterly reject the so-called "christianity" of Beck's band of ignorant greedbaggers. They are a hate-brigade, concerned only about their own stuff, convinced that they can take it all with them when they die.

Too bad their ugly, threatening signs - so evident at their usual hate-fests - were banned this time. The "signs" were still evident on their ugly, old, fearful white faces.

Ignorance, greed and hatred -- the christianity of the modern age.

Casey1,
This is what I am concerned about. People who believed that beck and palin represent Christianity are just plain wrong. Some people's god is money. Christianity have hijackers in its mists just as any other faith. Look out especially for those who say "God spoke me." They say it in a way that means He doesn't speak to you just them. There is a difference between the words Prophet and profit.

Here are quotes from the Bible that you have to consider when you listen to SOME people talk about their faith on a public stage or on the sabbath. The rest of the week...well you get the point.
ISAIAH 29:13
"Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near [me] with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

MATTHEW 15:8
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with [their] lips; but their heart is far from me.

Posted by: tigman_2 | August 29, 2010 1:07 PM | Report abuse

As a Christian, I have misgivings about Mormon Beck speaking for me on religious matters. There are deep and important differences between Mormonism and Christianity. I think that what is most relevant, however, in a discussion of Beck's usurpation of the MLK anniversary is the long-standing Mormon teaching that black people are inherently inferior, and that they have no chance of attaining heaven. I would like to hear the verbose Mr. Beck talk more about his faith, and less about generalities that link the loving religion of Christianity with a militant, armed America. By the way, I haven't heard of the military service of Beck himself. I come from a generation in which most males actually did military service, and didn't just talk about it.

Posted by: bobg1 | August 29, 2010 1:06 PM | Report abuse

Who is Glenn Beck to be critical of someone else's Christianity? Beck throws the name of Christ around enough but never truly discusses the fact that he is actually a Mormon.

Well Mormon's are Christians? Right? Wrong. Their belief structure is fundamentally different than any mainstream version of Christianity. Mormonism starts with the belief that Joseph Smith was a divine Prophet of God who walked the earth over 1800 years after Christ. He wrote the Book of Mormon, which is considered divine. The Bible specifically speaks against this:

"Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar. Proverbs 30: 5-6

I have no problem with Mormons believing what they want to believe in a country like America with religious freedom. Likewise, I have no objection to those who choose to not believe at all. It just becomes so tiring to watch people who are clearly not Christians, trying to co-opt the Christian crowd for political motivations and using Christ to do so.

Glenn Beck does not represent the cause of Christ. He makes his living off of the misery of others while casually throwing around the name of Jesus. But he rarely ever mentions that the God he refers to is not the God of Christianity. Sorry Glenn, the problem is not that we can't recognize Obama's Christianity but that we can recognize yours?

The problem is, however, that his show (where he plays a professor) is simply filled with lies, historical distortions, and ridiculous efforts to smear his enemies. He is extremely right wing and it scares me to think that 3 million or so people watch him each day.

Someone should ask him to see if he even knows what the term "character" means.

Beck is essentially a sad man who has led a very sad life. This is just his newest attempt at self-invention. It is interesting that so many who are talking about Christian things are listening to a non-Christian to lead them. Beck is as much a Christian as Obama is a Muslim. He will come to a sad end like Jim Baker and Jimmy Swaggart and a multitude of demagogues before him. Within a couple of years he will either suffer a breakdown, or have some greatly embarassing personal revelation come out. As dizzying as his rise, so will be his fall.

Near the bottom of the food chain is a creature known as "the lying politician." Good examples are Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Barbara Bachman and thousands of other right-wingers working to tear this country down.

Below them are the anarchists who use religion as a political tool, people like Glenn Beck, Franklin Graham and Lindsey Graham.

Put the two together with a fictitious rally to bring honor back to America (Brazil and Canada don't need this) and what you have is a farce, a cesspool of right-wing delusions.

Glenn Beck, if you want to bring honor back to the United States of America then turn Cheney and his cohorts over to an international war crimes tribunal, bring truth and facts back to right-wing politicians in this country, and shut down the slanderous, deceitful tabloid rant programs masquerading as news.

Beck's rantings are nothing new. In the 30's we had evangalists on radio, people like reverend Coughin, exploiting the fears of those who were struggling during the great depression. Beck is no different.
He's a sublime racist, and as close to Joe McCarthy as anyone else. Our country has seen people like Beck before, and they will again when economics are in recession. The ignorant and fearful make great followers, who believe his tripe, because they need scapegoats to explain their own misery. What these people need to do is look in the mirror, and take responsibility. Beck makes victims of them all.

i really hope Obama turns the economy and creates lots of private sector jobs, so that "peoples common sense" exposes the fraud and hate creator called Glen Beck he is killing the American dream with his nonsense

for instance about the Mosque in N.Y.(just one of many stupidities i've seen when i do television zapping and came across his show), i believe he is killing American dream, Glen Beck has done entire shows on the Mosque topic against it.
if Americans don't allow the people they despise to express themselves... then there is no freedom of speech in America even if its in inappropriate place or date

i'm touching this topic because its his latest paranoia and i'm not Muslim

religion + politics = evil

please people don't trust him

to save America, Americans must learn how tho live with other cultures and beliefs from around the world, because respect brings business and real boost the economy, its not about fancy words like, Faith, Hope and Charity, and the change he wants for his utopia

the rest of the world is being entertained by the glenbeckian joke the he calls his gut!

I am not pleased with everything that is going on now, but I have a better feeling about our country's "soul" now, ( except for these reactionaries) than I did 7 years ago. And let's not get into religion. It( and christianity played a big role here)has caused more problems in the world's history then it has helped. The killings, the wars, the hate, the murders, the divisions, the persecutions. Faith, personal faith, is good because it keeps us focused. As soon as we organize it, that's when the problems raise their ugly head.
Glenn Beck should stay an entertainer as Sara Palin is. This, thes two , are the face of the future? The face of reform? The face of the republican party? If they are, then the republicans have big problems, and if they do get power back, we all are in big trouble.

Rich and powerful Americans do not want a civil war which will disturb their privileged positions. Speeches by Glen Beck attract only radical whites listeners who want to restore the nation to a time when power was only in the hands of an Anglo Saxon majority, this could only be possible if Obama voters were crushed and sent to concentration camps to be gassed. The law forces the majority to share power with the nations minorities and fortunately it has prevented a terrible civil war.

Beck says he wants to "Restore America." But to what?

Certainly not to anything Constitutional.

Beck, a convert to Mormonism (considered by many Evangelicals to be a cult), is already deciding whose version of Christianity is correct and is speaking as though the Founding Fathers intended America to be Beck's version of a Christian nation.

Beck should have obtained an education instead of a blackboard. The poor sap is clueless. Divisive and trouble-making, but clueless.

Glen Beck is an absolute disgrace , I don't know if he actually believes his own BS or if he is just a fraud without a conscience capitalizing on the simpletons in this country ... of which there are many . Palin and Beck are nothing but blithering idiots , they are cult leaders in the cult of the stupid who are getting rich spouting complete nonsense to simpletons who do not know any better . Make some incoherent speeches with all of the magic buzz words , God , patriot , country , honor , socialism , communism and the so called conservatives in this country go wild and eat the meaningless nonsense up , the message is simple ,it's pure politics , conservatives / Republicans good , Democrats liberals bad . Using Jesus Christ , God and Christianity for their political agenda is the ultimate low , the Nazi party in Germany did the same thing . Beck and his followers are a disgrace and an embarrassment , they are turning this country into a nut house and the laughing stock of the entire world , not to mention that they are turning this country upside down and destroying her . What is going on in this country is tragic , the Reich wing fascist party , the conservatives , are destroying this country , the Republican party , Tea party , the conservative Reich all one and the same , are making history alright , the fall of America , sabotaged and destroyed from within .

Absolutely fascinating. Beck professes to be a Morman. Mormans are not Christians! They believe that Jesus Christ was a man, a prophet, not the son of God. To hear a non-Christian such as Beck discuss Obama's "version of Christianity" is truly laughable if it weren't so sad. He really doesn't know what his own religion believes. Christians believe that Jesus came to earth for our salvation, Mormans do not.

And yet, folks are willing to believe every word that comes out of his mouth.

Lets see -- Beck tells people to buy gold on his radio and TV shows but does NOT tell them that he is a paid employee of a comapny selling gold.

Beck tells people Obama is a pal of the muslims but does NOT tell people that News Corp (and FOX) are owned by the Kingdom Foundation which is owned by a Saudi prince who also happens to fund the religious schools that turn out suicide bombers that may be killing our soldiers.

Beck tells people that Obama is destroying the country but he (and the rest of the FOX crew) never admit error. Or respond to information showing they are liars of epic proportions.

The folks that listen to Beck are -- in the mind of any reasonable person -- ignorant, stupid or just plain easily led.

Beck may win the US but the people will eventually pay the price and I hope I'm alive to watch all the Beck lovers try to handle that disaster. As for me, I have a passport which is far better than a gun.

Too bad their ugly, threatening signs - so evident at their usual hate-fests - were banned this time. The "signs" were still evident on their ugly, old, fearful white faces.

Ignorance, greed and hatred -- the christianity of the modern age.

It's not his religious freedom I'm worried about. He's welcome to practice his religion openly, even loudly on the Mall if he pleases. It's his suggestion that only "people of faith" - and only people of HIS faith at that - should have civil rights or religious freedom that worries me.

Glenn Beck better hope that the new currency is GOLD since he hawks it on commercials and even has an ad running across the bottom of some of his interviews. He doesn't care about money?

Easy for Glenn Beck to say - he made $35 million last year and lives in a $5 million mansion in New Canaan CT, the center of estates of the hedge fund managers. Where are his true Western values that he claims to live by? Oh yes, and where is his college diploma and law degree from Harvard?

Oops, he doesn't have anything but a high school diploma and releases from various rehab facilities. Rush Limbaugh minus the 3 junior college courses that Limbaugh took before figuring out how to fool people.

Come on Americans, at least follow someone with a brain, an education and a vision. We deserve better than Beck and Limbaugh and the Koch brothers whipping us up into a frenzy. Or do we?

King is bigger than the black makes him to be. He is an American hero and not black's hero. King's dream is American dream and not black's dream. The black should praise a white man embracing King, rather than attacking him of any bad intention. In fact, King's message is universally admired by all American. So I do not see why the black keeps wanting to claim, or reclaim King is their own. Just bacause of his skin color? Aren't we suppose judge by the "character" instead? The same goes to Obama. The black keeps wanting to think he is their "black" president by expressing their "disappointment" about him not doing enough for the black. The black keeps on saying that the "disadvantaged" is under-educated. The fact is that the black kids are not coming to the classes. The black needs to be honest themselves and attacking Glenn is not going to do much good. They are making this a race issue--the same old message and the only card that they want to play. Just look at other minorities and other dis-advantaged groups. They are busy pulling themsleve ahead, instead of ralling all day long about racial discrimination.

The Left sees Obama as just another super pro-Capitalist politician, like Bush. Obama's health and finance reform bills were written by the healthcare industry and big banks. When the gov option was dropped, health care reform became meaningless. Also, Obama continues the Afghan war. Instead of reaching out to Muslims, he's killing them by the score in both Afghanistan and now Yemen. Obama is actually showing he's a fairly right wing politician. At a minimum, he is "Bush lite."

What a wonderful world Mr. Delong must live in where the entire history of American oppression, social injustice, and prejudice do not seem to exist and everyone truly has an equal chance to succeed. For individuals who are completely ignorant about the reality of our American history that still impacts the majority of minorities in this country because they have never had to consider their own privilege or how it has carried them throughout their entire lives. For those who have never had to consider how their race or ethnicity might impact a job interview, or how other caucasian folks might look at them walking through their nice suburban neighborhood, I suppose it must seem like everyone has it as easy as they do. How separated from reality must Glen Beck be to believe that he truly earned his success and wealth in this country?

Obama's popularity will continue to slide as long as the economy is in the cellar. That's also the most effective weapon of the Right to go after him with. The problem for the Right, it's running on a negative and they have nothing with which to fix the economy either. **********************************

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Jesus also instructed his followers to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's.

Something that too many of us are unable to do. I fear heaven is probably a very empty domain.

Mormons like Glen Beck believe that black people are an inferior race, as written down and thought to them by their founder, and will serve whites as slaves in heaven.

"Chapter 15 is entitled, "The Seed of Cain." Chapter 16 is entitled, "The Seed of Cain After the Flood."

"Not only was Cain called upon to suffer, but because of his wickedness he became the father of an inferior race" (p. 101).

"Millions of souls have come into this world cursed with black skin and have been denied the privilege of Priesthood and the fulness of the blessings of the Gospel. These are the descendants
of Cain" (p. 101).

"Brigham Young declared that the flat nose and black skin were part of the mark put upon the descendants of Cain: "Cain slew his brother... and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin ..." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 290)
"Moreover, they have been made to feel their inferiority and have been separated from the rest of mankind from the beginning" (p. 101)."

It is no surprise to hear Glen Bleeeh call President Obama racist names or that, with his rally of lemmings, he wants to purify the country by "restoring honour" since his core belief is that America has beeb dishonoured by having an African American president.

Alleged? My eyes do not lie. I watched a video tape of militant uniformed Black Panthers intimidating white voters by waving a billy club while yelling, "You are about to be ruled by the black man, cracker!"

Barack Obama and Eric Holder stood and applauded those violent black racists who are bent on preventing white Americans from voting during elections.

Those Black Panthers were ruled "guilty" in a court of law.

You, Matt Delong, label this "alleged". My presumption is you are blind to truth, or simply lying.

Something to read out of the dictionary:

The revolutionaries in the American Revolution and the French Revolution used liberal philosophy to justify the armed overthrow of tyrannical rule. The 19th century saw liberal governments established in nations across Europe, Latin America, and North America. Liberal ideas spread even further in the 20th century, when liberal democracies triumphed in two world wars and survived major ideological challenges from fascism and communism. Conservatism, fundamentalism, and military dictatorship remain powerful opponents of liberalism. Today, liberals are organized politically on all major continents. They have played a decisive role in the growth of republics, the spread of civil rights and civil liberties, the establishment of the modern welfare state, the institution of religious toleration and religious freedom, and the development of globalization.

WAPO SAYS;
"Fox News host Glenn Beck appeared on "Fox News Sunday" to discuss the event."

GLENN BECK SAYS ON THIS FOX NEWS SUNDAY;
"people aren't recognizing [Obama's] version of Christianity."

"Beck said he didn't agree with King's calls for economic justice."

I AM CONFUSED AND I REALLY DON'T GET IT; WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS RALLY ABOUT ANYWAY.

On top of everything, this "POLITICAL PUNDIT" that connects everything to politics and race says the following:
"I Have a Dream" speech in the same location, was intended to reclaim the mantle of the civil rights movement from politics for "people of faith."

If there is a proper person to recalim civil rights from politics, for sure that can't be Glenn Beck. As might as well call Osama Bin Laden to reclaim jihad from America.
This rally was rellevant completely only on plotical aspects, so if Glenn Becks mission was to "recalim civili rights from politics", he absolutely failed because he was not honest about his real intentions.

How would Glen Beck see past his own EGO to see or hear any critic. Glen Beck is a SOAP SALESMAN for the Fox PROPAGANDA MACHINE FOR SUCKERS WHO BUY THE SOAP. Neither He or FOX have any redeeming features whatsoever, I fail to see what other purpose they wish to serve,

To the TEA PARTY. Someone tried your effort and we lost. It was called the CiVIL WAR.

PS I changed sides and married the woman of my choice regardless of race, creed or color

We should never forget what Beck said about Pres. Obama as we should never forget how Sharpton came on the national scene. They are both con artist out for themselves. I partly blame MSM for keeping them in the spotlight - especially MSM who use Sharpton as a spokesperson for blacks when the majority of blacks see him as a disgrace and only used by media so that they can further damage blacks - I know that seems crude but MSM has a history and some think that history is not good towards blacks.

Actions speak louder than words. A person does not speak about Christianity while promoting hate, anger, fear, spouting lies, ridiculous accusations.
Posted by: kathlenec
-------------------------------
But the question is whether he is actually promoting hate or is merely being presented by liberals (with a political agenda) of promoting hate.

When I read the postings on WaPo, I find far more hateful postings from the left than from the right.

Liberals at one time used to be thoughtful and kind people. But they have changed. My explanation is that they hated Bush and now that hatred has become a habit so they react to anyone who does not agree with 100% of their agenda with hatred.

Alveda King is MLK's niece but she committed the two sins of being opposed to abortion (which MLK also was), and showing up at Beck's rally. So she too is an object of hatred.

Reagan said that anyone who agreed with him 80% was a friend and an ally and not a 20% traitor.

Nixon by contrast had an enemies list.

Present day liberals are far more like Nixon than they are like Reagan. (And they hate Reagan).

To his credit, Obama is NOT like Nixon. I am talking about Ms. LITS, Ms Liberal in the street. The most important thing for HER is the right to kill foetuses. Anyone who does not endorse an unlimited right to kill foetuses goes on her "enemies list", JUST like Nixon.

If you look in the mirror and see Tricky Dick, you know why! :)

"Beck said Obama made the case in a speech to students that "your salvation is directly tied to collective salvation," which Beck said was "a direct opposite of what the gospel talks about ... Jesus came for personal salvation." Beck said "people aren't recognizing [Obama's] version of Christianity."

"Love thy neighbor as thyself" is anti-Gospel, Glenn?

Funny thing is that a bunch of evangelicals gather to listen to a Mormon preach. Muslims are closer to believing the in same god as Christians do than the Mormons.

Beck held a revival meeting. What specifics did he offer (other than prayer) to sort out Americas problems? What specifics did Ms Palin offer?
Long on rhetoric but short on answers is how I view the Beck/Palin 'ministry'.
I felt like I was watching the 720 Club on steroids. It solved nothing. Nada. Rien.
So Mr. Beck, enjoy your pay increase, and keep plugging for tax cuts for the other rich guys. As if you don't have enough already. You can only eat so much.

Those crowd estimates are definitely stretched. AP is estimating 80,000. Of course, Michelle Bachmann already claimed a million, based on, well, whatever Michelle Bachmann bases her thinking on, which is probably not anchored in the natural world. The first Tea Party rally drew about 70,000, though organizers claimed half a million. They even used an old photo to support their claims, forgetting to put in the American Indian Museum.

The estimates I've heard from folks who went put the figure at under 100,000, artfully arranged by Beck staffers and volunteers to mimic a much larger crowd in photo opportunities. From the crowds in the Metro, very much out-of-towners from the Midwest and South.

The more cynical among observers have named the event 'Whitestock'.

President Obama while in the state senate voted against requiring medical care for babies who are born alive during late term abortions. That's what kind of Chirstian he is.

Obviously Beck is banking on gold, not acorns (didn't he do in Acorn?). Seriously, Beck is a huckster with a Midas obsession, and his end will be, like Midas, a sad one.

A lesson for Glen Beck and his nitwit followers from George Washington: "All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship. It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent national gifts. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support."

Where is the religion in this?

Glenn Beck? The mantle of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., personalist theologian, social justice activist, and anti-racism demonstrator?

Isn't Beck's version of Christianity Mormonism?

"In Mormon theology, the god of our planet is believed to have once been a man on another planet, who through self-effort and the help of his own father-god, was appointed by a counsel of gods in the heavens to his high position as the god of planet Earth, and now has a physical, resurrected, glorified body. Mormonism teaches that through the atonement of Christ and by their good deeds and "holy" living, men can one day become gods, and with their multiplicity of "goddess wives," populate their own planets. "

None of the Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Baptists, or Methodists I know believe this.

Matt DeLong writes, "To his critics who attack his wealth...."

Those critics would be lazy welfare check collecting left liberals who are content to spend their lives smoking pot in the back of used book stores.

Attacking Americans who become successful through hard honest work is simply abhorrent. This is a display of envy by lazy left liberals, an envy of those of us who work our fingers to the bone to be successful.

This left liberal envy of the successful is so psychotic, Obama and left liberals both demand and expect us successful Americans to cut them welfare checks to support their lazy lifestyles.

Left liberals contend hard work and success is a legitimate point of critique yet have no shame about collecting welfare checks provided by high taxes upon those of us who earn an honest living.

When Beck and Hattrick produced a local version of Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" for Halloween -- a recurring motif in Beck's life and career -- Kelly told a local reporter that the bit was a stupid rip-off of a syndicated gag. The slight outraged Beck, who got his revenge with what may rank as one of the cruelest bits in the history of morning radio. "A couple days after Kelly's wife, Terry, had a miscarriage, Beck called her live on the air and says, 'We hear you had a miscarriage,' " remembers Brad Miller, a former Y95 DJ and Clear Channel programmer. "When Terry said, 'Yes,' Beck proceeded to joke about how Bruce [Kelly] apparently can't do anything right -- about he can't even have a baby."

Actions speak louder than words. A person does not speak about Christianity while promoting hate, anger, fear, spouting lies, ridiculous accusations. This man will rant whatever will get him the headlines and more money.
Christians love their fellow man, have compassion for the less fortunate, do not discriminate against others because their faith, beliefs are different, will not support hypocrasy, show boating and unite for the survival of us and our country.
What is so sad and disturbing is that some have allowed theirselves to be used, manipulated, brainwashed by those who only care about their own personal agendas.

Beck...the convenient Christian/Mormon talking about President Obama's theology. And just when was it he heard Obama talk about "collective salvation" in the context of faith? The man is an idiot when it comes to Christianity or he would have recognized Obama's grace under fire, let alone his own antics under the guise of his 'religion'. If, indeed, pride "goes before a fall", then we should be hearing very loud thud in the not too distant future. A lot of thuds, I would imagine.

Re: his comment "Beck said "people aren't recognizing [Obama's] version of Christianity...."" I find it intriguing that Beck feels he can speak for ANY people. But as long as he's thrown down that ignorant gauntlet, I'll respond:

People aren't recognizing Beck's version of Christianity. Not even Jesus Christ himself would recognize Glenn Beck's exclusionary, ignorant version of Christianity.

And the real clincher is this: the Founders did not in any way recognize Christianity as the means by which this nation should be governed, nor even as a sort of universally-interpreted means by which the PEOPLE of America should live their lives.

Beck, for all his self-serving prattle ignorance and lack of comprehension of what America TRULY is: is at the least (his own self-proclaimed title) a clown, but at worst: a highly dangerous instigator of anti-American sentiment. Watch him, listen to him - believe him: at your own peril.

To his critics who attack his wealth, Beck said the money doesn't matter. "I think it's going to be worthless," he said, adding that he doesn't know "if it's going to be gold or acorns" that America will use as currency in the future.

-----

But it sure doesn't hurt to invest in gold, does it, Glenn?
