Ben Quayle admits writing for 'Dirty Scottsdale' Web site

By Matt DeLong

After initially denying the allegations, Arizona House candidate Ben Quayle (R), son of former vice president Dan Quayle, admitted on Tuesday that he used to post comments on a Web site called "Dirty Scottsdale" several years ago, Politico reports.

The site's founder, Hooman Karamian, alleged in a Monday post on TheDirty that Quayle was "one of the original contributors" to the site, which featured sexy photos of women and "chronicled the city's clubs and nightlife and [was] the predecessor to the popular gossip website TheDirty.com."

Karamian said Quayle posted under the name "Brock Landers," an apparent reference to the fictional sidekick to porn star Dirk Diggler in the film "Boogie Nights." Quayle had a featured section on the site, Karamian said, called "Brock's Chick," in which he sought to "find the hottest chick in Scottsdale." He added that "Without Ben, there would be no TheDirty.com." Quayle acknowledged Tuesday that he did contribute to the site in an interview with Phoenix's 12 News.

"I just posted comments to try to drive some traffic," [Quayle] said.

"What kind of comments?" the reporter asked.

"This is four years ago," Quayle replied. "This is hilarious this is being brought up. ... This is a smear. This is a smear on me from a smear website being pushed by a smear campaign."

Quayle initially told Politico on Tuesday that he "was not involved in the site." He admitted that he and Karamian know each other, and he helped Karamian find an intellectual property lawyer when the site was created, but he said that was the extent of his involvement with the site.

The founder of an Arizona-based investment firm, Quayle is one of 10 Republicans running to replace retiring Rep. John Shadegg in Arizona's 3rd Congressional District. His campaign Web site bills him as a "conservative Republican." One of the candidate's mailers, showing Quayle with two young girls, drew some attention earlier this month when it was revealed that the girls were Quayle's nieces. He is married but childless. In a statement to knock down criticism that he was trying to give the impression that he is a family man, Quayle's campaign said:

"We are presenting Ben as a pro-family candidate because he is a pro-family candidate," Moley said. "We are presenting him as a traditional-values candidate because he is a traditional values candidate."

As Politico notes, Quayle has some very high-profile Republican backers, including former President George H.W. Bush, who hosted a fundraiser in May for the candidate at his Houston home.

Update
: Coincidentally, Quayle is up with a new campaign spot today in which he says he was "raised right" and President Obama is "the worst president in history."

This is a bit like those final scenes in horror movies, in which, at the last moment, the monster comes alive again and has to be dealt with one last time.

I've searched for years for a term for that final scare....I think we can call it a "A dying Quayle."

dcharlson - smear campaigns - Ben Quayle smeared himself! My President Obama took over from your Repulsican party as Georgy Bushman left my country in the worst shape since the Great Depression. Who was in charge during those 8 years of failure - well the most stupid man we have ever had as a President - Georgy Bushman and his corrupt crony Dick Cheney. And you blame in on Obama. Come now - have you done your research on who did what? Let's lay the blame firmly on the shoulders of those who spent more money on two useless wars than any President in American History - Georgy Bushman. Well well well, a Repulsican! You all may very well win again and the country will really be on it's last legs with the corruption, idiocy, support and tax relief for the rich individual and corporation. I can't wait!

It's going to be a great election come November. Even the Soros funded bloggers know they are going to lose big time. It's evident by their posts. They can't argue facts or defend Obama, so they have fallen back to their standard name calling and smear tactics.

I live in Arizona. Ben Quayle is a source of laughter here amongst my friends as we all knew that he was posting about "hot chicks" as Brock Landers - the sidekick to PORN STAR Dirk Diggler. Since Arizona seems to elect anyone who is a warm body (and who does NOTHING for a better life for those of us living here), including Joe "I wanna be in pictures" Arapaio, Jan "fuzzy-headed" Brewer, John "I approve this ad" McCain, Jon "woman-hater" Kyl and yes last but not least JD "I'll do anything for money" Hayworth. Yes, we've got them all - why not a guy who scours Scottsdale for hot chicks? He wouldn't do any worse than the rest of the incompetent, self-serving cabal! Just make sure he is not ethnic in any way - we don't want brown or black people in office here - it might hurt our racist state standing.

I know it's hard for average Americans to keep track of the endless stream of Republican perverts, criminals, and scandals.

So as a public service, Republican Offenders (website) provides a long, long, long list of Republican criminals from the past ten years...nicely organized by category: Drugs/Prostitution, Murder, Corruption/Bribery, Rape, Lewd Conduct, Assorted Felonies, Fraud/Embezzlement etc etc etc...and a ridiculously huge section on Pedophiles, as would be expected.

Looks like only about 400 or so Republicans listed...so it's obviously a work in progress.

First off it does not seem to bother you that POTAOE Quayle JR. Is a grown man, and flat out LIE, NO HE WASN'T INVOLVED, BUT NOW ADMITS THAT HE INDEED HE WAS, Potatoe Quayle Jr is a 30+ years old , he was born in 1976 married with out children, way past being a child. Sara the barracuda, pit bull, grizzly(her words) is a grown woman with a child, and Giulliani's daughter is twenty years old, out of the teen years, So I guess you don't mind when GOP Politicians flat out lie to you, no wonder you are a republican, never in the early 2000 the budget matter until a democrat was elected.

one of the last things we need in this country is another Quayle running for political office..the last one was sad joke and just proved how little it takes to get on the Repub ticket...

This one does not sound much better than "dear old Dad"...first he lies about the matter...tries to cover his ass, then admitts it was true...While this kid "has all the makings" necessary to be the normal Repub Congressman, he maybe acutally too dumb...cuz he is not learning from their mistakes..

The mainstream media loved to make fun of Dan Quayle, who was a pretty good US senator and a much better vice-president than the one we have now. And they loved to make fun of Marilyn Quayle, who was a smart woman probably brighter than her husband, but not the exactly beautiful.

Now they are eager to gang up on Quayle junior, mainly because of his last name. What exactly is supposed to be wrong with a young man's contributions to a website regarding "the hottest chick in Scottsdale"? Did these hot chicks not care for the publicity?

With this Quayle, it's not about spelling, it's about judgment. If this guy pretends to be all about "family values" -- how does he define that, anyway? -- and he contributes to a sleazy website, and then he denies contributing to that webite, and then he admits that, yes, he was lying when he denied contributing . . . then his judgment, if nothing else, is in question. Also, if he presents himself as a "father" in his literature, even though he's not a father . . . that's bad judgment, at best.

My belief is that the GOP ought to look closely at itself if another hypocrite is welcome in the party. Or else, give up the "family values" label. I have three daughters that I'd never want Quayle to be a role model for. Please! Get real.

The worst President of the USA was GW Bush, giving tax breaks during a time of war, the first time in our history that has happened, nose diving us into debt. Then jumping into a war with Iraq before finishing business in Afghanistan and opening a big door for Iran to flex its muscle without Iraq to worry about. Two of many historical blunders.

The 2nd worst President would have been John McCain, in the pocket of right wing conservatives, now doing a 360 on the principles he stood for over the last 20+ years just to keep the power of his office. With, "I quit to cash $$ in on my VP run-Palin" we would have had two self serving politicians watching out for the rich and powerful and themselves while taking more safety net away from the poor.

Quayle lied to cover up something that was obviously embarrassing to him. He can spin it any way he wants, if he had told the truth this issue would have gone away rather quickly. The timing of it may cost him an election.

You want to know why they put this under the OBAMA Blog? because they knew they would catch the attention of people who like to show their ignorance and disrespect - Assuming there are many of them - hoping they drive up the traffic to an otherwise useless piece of information.

IF IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PRESIDENCY, DON'T POST IT HERE!

Does anyone else have a Problem with this blog's masthead reading "Obama's Washington"?

A few years back when this blog was also created for Bush 43, I don't remember the Post calling it "in Bush's Washington"

The Post appears to be advancing the line of the right by trying to inflame the Repub readers - who already like to believe that this is Obama's Washington.

Shame on the Post. Bring back Dan Froomkin for an honest take on the news.. Shouldn't this article be in the general politics blog anyway?

What does Quale have to do with Obama? NOTHING. The Post's web staff know if you tag it with Obama, chances are, it will give a lot of people another chance to show their ignorance at the expense of driving traffic to otherwise pointless information. THIS is another example of why the majority of the people who read the news papers and their sites, get brainwashed by division and manipulation.

Family values, for white middle brow people and the hell with everyone else. Those family values, that's the GOP for ya. All puffed up and pounding the pulpit by day, diddling boys and girls in the shadows. Hey, not all of 'em, but enough to make the label - hypocrite - stick.

Obstruct, impede and poison critically important legislation and then deny responsibility. Hypocrisy.
Oppose funding economic stimulus during a fiscal emergency and aping like this is fiscally responsible and still support extending welfare for the wealthy, aka the Bush tax give away. Hypocrisy.

Though it seems to be a viable GOP candidate you need to appeal to Christian Right which demands you be their version of a "family values" politician. The most galling thing here is that he calls it a smear campaign when it's just the facts. If he can't handle the truth that hurts how will he handle the real smears?
I personally found the real Quayle more appealing spun version, before the hypocrisy of course.

Given that President Obama has helped make some of the most historic legislation ever, welcomed by millions, I'd say this guy is a loser, who is deflecting attention from his own stupid moves.

This is important because its shows lack of character from Ben. He flat out LIED to every voter in the district. In the AM, he had no involvement, he simply referred him to an attorney. By PM, he had now written several posts "driving traffic" to the dirty. Usually it takes weeks to learn to flip flop and lie, Ben got it down in a day. Why do you want to drive traffic to the site that you have nothing to do with, your words Ben, not the media's "smear campaign"

LIES, LIES, LIES

There is no spin for that.

I will believe it is a Quayle when I see him in a National Guard Uniform yucking it up for the cameras.

This guy is a dork like his father. First he lies, then he unlies.

His contributing to the site is far less important than his initial denial. He's just become another politician who can't be honest until he gets caught. An another Quayle at that, oh heavens!!!

Let up on this guy, . . he's just an aspiring Family Values Conservative!

He hasn't had time to work himself up to having sex with his employees yet, or having his Mommy and Daddy pay them off, like Senator John Ensign, or even his own public toilet stall, yet, . . give him time!

Soon, he'll be having prostitutes put him in diapers, do he can, . . . . . what? Clean up after him, like Diaper Dave Vitter? Like the Conservatives in the Bush Administration, whose messes, whose disasters, whose crimes we are still trying to end?

Pretty typical of the "family values" boosters...

I can't imagine that a young man with a healthy interest in sex would be disqualified from running for office because of it.

Since this is on the Obama Presidency Blog, where is President Obama's comment on this pressing matter?
